Should CNN Be Taken Off the Air For Both Public Health and Fake News/Foreign Propaganda Reasons?

Fake news and manufactured panic are infectious diseases too.

New York Times reporters are also pumping out deliberately falsified news to incite panic:

This stupid bitch nobody is so determined to incite panic that he shrieks about anyone daring to post non-panic-inciting news about non-coronavirus topics:

robgeorge

Xhe also retweeted that "Wow" tweet, in which Trump's quote was truncated to incite panic.

Oh, and this Rhodes Scholar wants to know if we'll be building hospitals -- build time: 3 to 4 years -- for bedspace that we'll be needing (if at all) in 1-2 months.

If you think that's a very stupid question, it's because you're Racist, Sexist, or Homophobic, and you do not understand Different But Equally-Valuable Ways to Compare Larger Numbers to Much, Much Smaller Numbers. And also, that Logic is a White Devil Lie.

More: The NYT can't stop forging the "news."

I watched a film from back during the War that shows you what kind of power you can bring to bear when you have industry - and what you *can't* do when you don't.

An outfit in Detroit (one of the smaller car companies, Studebaker, maybe) got a contract to turn out cannon. They needed a facility to do it.

They threw up a building. Then they went out back to examine the obsolete machines that were stored behind the main factory to determine what they could reclaim and refurbish to repurpose into making cannon. They were turning them out within a couple of months.

Flash forward to today. Not only are the tools not there anymore, you won't even finish the environmental impact statement on the new factory inside of a year.

Speaking of cranking out hospitals. Another Brit (panicked level) plan I was reading about:

Deploy the Army to set up field hospitals to handle any surge level problem. Basically, MASHes, in tents.

And they have plans to deploy the army to guard hospitals and food supplies.

I'm sure we've got plans like this of our own.

_____________

That's one of the things that needs to change after this debacle.

The CDC's one job was supposed to be addressing disease epidemics. They've had billions of tax dollars thrown at them, and instead of doing their one job, they've wasted enormous amounts of money and other resources on bullshit "social justice" crap like gun control and obesity and playground equipment.

Congress needs to get off its collective ass and re-write the enabling law to force the CDC to do the one damn job it was created to do -- and nothing else.

204 JJ, so what? What would the "pandemic office" do that hasn't/isn't being done? The guy who ran it for a year up to the time it was disbanded has commented on this.

If that office still existed, very unlikely that it would be anything more than one more guy at the twice-daily staff meetings. The substantive input would come from CDC and HHS anyway, as it did when the office existed.

Only public bits of evidence we have so far are that Trump moved *faster* than CDC wanted on certain aspects, including the biggie, barring admissions from China. What would the "pandemic office" have done to change anything?

NSC was not intended to replicate the entire national security agency infrastructure - but of course over the years it started to. O'Brien's taking a machete to it now, long over-due. Bolton most likely made a sound move in abolishing it.

It's perfect.

If people go into severe respiratory distress, which is somewhat likely for elderly cases, they need ventilators. Ventilators are scarce because most hospitalizations won't require them. If we run out (e.g., they're all in use), then people will die waiting for care. There is also little that can be done short-term about it, which makes it a nice cudgel they can use for a while.

295 JJ my response on that is unchanging.

"Optics" are part of the job, handling them, that is.

The "press" says something stupid, distorts something, you respond with 1,000 times the force and energy, and you don't relent. You lay out the actual facts, and aggressively attack them to respond to *your* explanation.

Of course this is rarely done - even by this administration - but it's 100% the fault of the target, not the idiot press, for whom this is now SOP.

The collapse of public information and literacy in the country is partly the fault of the adults who for decades have simply refused to do the work to debunk, educate, and demonize. "Enemy of the people" and "fake news" mostly only entertains the already-sentient. Detailed dismantling of lies and distortion take some work, but so do all things worthwhile.

Yes. That is what kills the elderly and those with emphysema, etc. Their lungs are weakened from either disease or age and then can't clear fluid etc. that builds up from the virus.

Every hospital professional I've heard interviewed has been concerned about the media driven panic causing people to come to the ER for colds. Or they just want to be tested. They have to take the same kind of time with these people they would with those presenting with possible covid 19 infections that are producing serious symptoms. ER nurse on David Webb this morning said that the only way to do this community testing is the off site testing locations. She also said that the media screaming we are behind on testing is idiotic. building ACCURATE tests takes some time , you can't just make one up when we didn't have samples of virus early on. She also said mass testing was stupid, it was wasteful of resources and labor, and could produce false information. Only those presenting with criteria should be tested.

Runs on banks have already started. They generally keep this very quiet (Depression experience). How they keep the media from running with it, I don't know.

But the Daily Mail mention that there are panic cash withdrawals, and some NYC banks were running out of $100 bills.

The Fed is probably quietly having to get cash to banks all over the country. Remember the theoretical "helicopter money" which was the genesis of Helicopter Ben Bernanke's nickname.

Well, the Fed literally ships cash in via helicopter to staging areas to get it to banks.

And they keep it all quiet. Very quiet.

Last years flu season was short of 500,000 hospitalizations and 40,000 deaths. Light flu year.

2017 H2N3 (we didnt even bother to give it a name) was 810,000 hospitalizations and 80,000 flu deaths. That shit knocked me on my ass for 2 weeks. Nary a headline. And THAT was during the Trump admin.

I know that CV19 is not the flu, but is still a viral contagion.... and lets get a little perspective people. Covid 19 aint overwhelming anything.

Posted by: Serious Cat at March 16, 2020 03:15 PM (zqs/f)

538 490, Jen, you are absolutely correct.

The only value to widespread testing is in the very initial phase to identify the spreaders followed by surveillance tracking to see where they've been and who they have come into contact with. The CDC botched this part, refused the help of the UW Flu project which already had collected test swabs for their project that could also be tested for COV19. In addition, the CDC's tracking methodology is obsolete compared with S Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, and China. The downside is that using computer tracking of infected people and knowing where they were would give a lot of people here the heebie jeebies even though Google does it if you have Android.

The Flu Project on their own, tested samples and found one from a teenage boy that tested positive in Early Feb. They told the CDC what they found and the CDC/FDA had a conniption about patient privacy and consent, they stopped them from more tests as the Wash. outbreak worsened. Awful story.

543 537, Serious Cat, we don't have enough masks for health care providers, let alone the general public. That is probably why the CDC soft soaped using masks by making it appear like rocket science to fit a n95 Mask for a civilian.

Early study of the Wuhan virus consisted of studying infection patterns verified by genetic sequencing of how one guy infected 13 out of 34 on a 4 hr bus ride. All buses there have surveillance video systems and they tracked the cell phones, etc. Not one rider wearing a mask was infected. Those folks went through the whole SARS epidemic and face bad flu seasons--they wear masks as a matter of course.

546 539, Currency is dirty and Wuhan actually took currency out of circulation to clean it because it spread Covid (stuff can live on paper for awhile). That would cause even more of a panic.

There is a big dispute about the primary mechanism for spread of this virus with the majority siding with primarily by nose and mouth, with a minority holding out for contaminated surfaces that is then transferred to the face and breathed in. Covid 19 Contamination is also likely from fecal and urine discharge in public bathrooms and within families with no washing of hands afterwards..

It seems like the only two people not interested in causing panic are President Trump and Vice President Pence. Public Health officials (like Fauci and the Ohio c*nt) are doing the opposite with their talk of how bad it could be. The Ohio c*nt implied that there were 100,000 Wuhan Flu infected people in Ohio alone!. There have been less 30,000 confirmed cases in Italy compared to the half-dozen or so in Ohio.
