1 Good Morning Morons today is Saturday, March 14, 2020. On this date in 1900 the Gold Standard Act was ratified, placing United States currency on the gold standard. This was an act of congress and a defacto amendment, hence ratification. FDR took us off the gold standard in 1933 by executive fiat, which was illegal. Later on Nixon made it a permanent thing. All this is why a current dollar is worth about 30 cents of money value from 1900. And that is using the government's own numbers for inflation which are grossly inaccurate.

2 I am disappointed in Trump. The 'deal' he made with Nazi Peelousy allowed her to lard it up with liberal socialism BS having nothing to do with the corona virus. The Republicans in congress are balking at this one-sided deal. This coronavirus BS is all political hype anyway.

8 Shitty IL town mayor issues and executive order for the coronavirus that includes more illegal gun control. What has that got to do with a virus other than a virus against the constitution. Democrats everywhere are using this BS hype as an excuse to get their whole laundry list of illegal actions and more welfare. Could it be that the DNC had this all planned out months ago? They were just waiting for a suitable 'manufactured crisis' to launch it.

46 Just for clarification, that emergency order gives power for a lot of actions that aren't going to be necessary in this particular scenario. Guns, yes...taking control of the power and water, etc. It's a standard, boilerplate emergency directive, covering all sorts of scenarios.
Sure, Leftists COULD use this to create all sorts of progressive mayhem, but that is not the intention at this point, in this scenario. They'd face some swift court challenges, if they pushed it.

Re: the bill. It's a good move when real financial distress is a few coughs and a fever away for some folks. Working folks depend on paychecks to buy TP and other essentials. If they get hit with a two week quarantine, that's going to hurt a lot. Food for kids is always a winner. Free testing is good, too.

Imagine if your (in general) social security/pension/medicaid suddenly wasn't there for you in a pandemic. You'd want all the help you could get, no?

60 From the shitty Illinois town (Champaign) article...

Included in the executive order are ordinances that would give the city extraordinary powers to the Mayor.

Violating parts of the Open Meetings Act
Ban sale of firearms and ammunition
Ban sale of any alcohol
Closing of all bars, taverns, liquor stores, etc
Ban sale or giving away of gasoline or other liquid flammable or combustible products in any container other than a gasoline tank permanently fixed to a motor vehicle
Direct the shutoff of power, water, gas, etc
Take possession of private property and obtain full title to same
Prohibit or restrict ingress and egress to and from the City

Take possession of private property and obtain full title?

Why the TP run? Short answer: panicked lunacy.

Long answer: CDC recommends stocking up on 2 weeks of necessary supplies for virus prep. Quarantines and isolation get in the public consciousness. I may not be able to leave my home for a while, what do I need?

TP comes up on that list. It would be terrible to be stuck at home with no ass wipe. So demand for TP jumps.

Everyone notices that TP is being bought and notices depleted quantities on the shelves.

Now, this fuels even more buying. Oh no, there's a run on TP, I better get some before it runs out.

And that starts a positive feedback loop that escalates into madness.

Basically, they noted their supply chain is stressed due to the virus and will not gouge us if certain ammo or weapons selections become scarce.

Further, if in fact the zombie apocalypse is upon us, two well placed shots to the head should take care of the problem so hording of ammo is not warranted.

Interesting.

Regarding gun news, WASH state Blue legislative attacks on gun rights were nearly all defeated!

Both houses turned Blue last election, and stealing citizen gun rights were at the top of their list. They had all the power to pass these draconian bills. The Guvnor (Jay Inslee - what an ass) were determined to destroy citizen gun rights, and make our life miserable. The state AG, Bob Ferguson, is a slimeball and hates gun owners, but sure likes his Big State power that he likes to abuse.

Some Seattle billionaires funded anti-gun propaganda. Pro gun supporters had no money or press support.

The local press was completely one sided and these attacks on gun owners were never completely reported.

Only a spirited grass-roots action from local gun owners and the members of a state gun website (waguns.org) is what killed all bills but one! We now have a new government office "Gun Safety". It gives an agency, that gives power to anti-gun efforts in the state government, not good.

There were many reports from some Democrat offices that they were inundated with letters, calls, emails, and some visitors.

The minority Republicans pulled off some tremendous moves in the Legislature to kill the momentum. One of the bills was smothered with 120 new amendments that killed the bill due to lack of time remaining in the session.

The legislative session ended yesterday (for new legislation) that killed bills that included:
- mags limited to 10 rounds,
- a mandatory gun registry for all guns and gun owners in the state,
- an 8 hour training class for anyone who wants a concealed carry license (WA is a shall carry state - 5 years CCP is $57, and it must be issued),
- background checks that cost a $19 fee every time you bought ammo,
- separate licenses, and a tax on every round to buy ammo,
- making buying ammo by mailorder or ecommerce illegal,
- new access fees to shoot on public land (WA has HUGE public lands where we have always been able to shoot, including National Forests and state Dept of Natural Resources),
- making AR-15's and AR-10's illegal ("assault weapons").

This is a David vs Goliath story of modern times.

So, some good news on the gun front for a change!

175 I second Lizbeth's comments about the Champaign IL ordinance... yes, it sounds awful but what it was, was a boilerplate cutting and pasting of a more general ordinance designed to cover every possible emergency from zombie apocalypse and nuclear holocaust to rioting (always a possibility in a university town), floods, tornadoes, etc. The idea is that the mayor chooses which powers to exercise based on the emergency at hand.... in this case, the city has since clarified that the current ordinance is focused on things like emergency purchasing, more flexiability in scheduling council meetings, and possible temporarly closure of city facilities. Search on "Champaign IL emergency ordinance" for more information.

183 There was a guy in my home town, a prominent businessman, who lost a son in a car wreck. The son was asleep, dad was driving and maybe a little drunk. Well, he went off the deep end, and I mean long term stay in the home. Lost his business and a lot more. Ended up with a Charles Chips route, and seemed like a happy man again.

Honestly, I'm surprised at our success. The local gun website is just a few hundred gun owners and a cross section of average Joes and Janes.

They have a couple of group shoots every year on public property that are really fun, and sell and trade gear. It used to be a great source of firearms, but the Left put two different Initiatives on the ballot in the past 3 years that eliminated private sales without background checks and fees for every transaction.

Both of those Initiatives campaigns were funded by anti-gun local billionaires, and the local press just smeared gun owners and spewed lies and propaganda. It was nauseating. Hence, this Legislative session looked to be a slam dunk for the Left.

Some on our side in this state are strung tight and do stuff regularly to practice stuff beyond target practice. That's all I'll say about that.

And then there are guys like me that stand up for Constitutional rights and get pissed when Globalist Lefties try to crap on citizens.

Talk about a rag tag bunch turning back the King's soldiers. Early on, it looked bleak. But a good plan, hard work, leadership, and great ongoing communication to our group for the next important step or message to deliver en masse to targeted Democrats did it.
All bills had a public hearing day. In the past, the Left stuffed those lines of people who wanted to testify, and 90% were anti-gun. So, guys from our side got up at 3am, to drive to Olympia to get in line first at 5am, so they could sign up to testify against the bill. And people shared legal and technical reasons why it was bad, and honed and shared that message.

Some people sent over 200 targeted email messages with detailed, accurate data.

They finally cried "uncle". There was no logical reason why we won. Kinda like Midway 1942. But we did.

I'm really proud of this group of my fellow citizens. And I am pleased to share it with like-minded people here at AoS.

One of that first group of people told me, "man, this is great! Now I don't have to shoot anyone to defend my rights".

I did mention some people are strung pretty tight, didn't I?

18 people, a small Mercedes bus, and a VW passenger van.

We had 2 great drivers, guys about 60, one a lifer at the Guiness brewery just retired, and one a teacher. They were great with those details only a local would know.

They told us to never, ever kiss the blarney stone.

A big thing for the local teens is to go there at night and piss all over it.

Then they would go there the next day when the tourist buses showed up, and laugh their asses off.

It was a local thing for the kids. I imagine it hasn't changed.

TP shelves were completely empty save a cart of TP that was being stocked. Stock boy told nearby customer that "This is it, no more coming today." (I buy a years worth of soap, laundry soap, tp, toothpaste and deodorant every late fall)

Lady in front of me at the check out had 3 kids ranging from pre-school to young adult. She had 12 18 packs of TP along with assorted other items that you buy when you are not on a budget. Sadly her EBT didn't have enough of my loot on it for her to complete her purchase.

Panic buying hit Michigan bigly when they closed the schools.

Grocery store was off the hook around noon yesterday. They had been out of toilet paper the day before, but some must have shown up because people had it in their carts.

Ground meat (beef and turkey) was stripped clean, along with bread. Oddly, the fresh-baked stuff was undisturbed. Frozen foods were getting worked over, but still viable.

I'm going to head over in a little bit to round off our supplies, but we've been keeping a handy reserve since the big ice storm a few years back.

It's pretty simple, really: you have a spare of whatever you use. When you open/use the spare, get another spare. Also, know your usage rate so you can estimate how long you can go on the spare.

The only weak point is my kids not telling me when they use the spare. Found out about an instance yesterday and I'm reasonably certain the kids won't make that mistake again.

I'm an NBA fan but I could use a break particularly from Mark Fatass Jackson's stupid announcing. I hope this kills March Madness which is absolutely terrible basketball; The Cartel fucks up everything it touches.

The Masters caving was a real disappointment; I suspect CBS and the lib cocksuckers in the PGA leaned on them hard. Plus by letting turds like Roger Goodell and Condoleeza Rice in, Augusta National isn't what Bobby Jones built anymore.

Similar situation here.

My wife went to Stations of the Cross yesterday, and when she got back I told her that I wouldn't be going to mass for the duration of the emergency. She still wants to, but I explained that the dispensation was given for a reason. If lots of people keep showing up, they will cancel it completely.

The previously-scheduled blood drive took place yesterday, though they were scrambling to screen people, taking temperatures, isolating everyone, wiping things down constantly.

1) A lot of kids were with a parent(s)
2) More elderly than "usual" for that time/hour

The shelves for the following were bare, or almost; TP, paper towels, certain breads, Raman or other dry noodle soups, canned dinners like spaghetti-O's, SPAM!?, eggs, milk, baby wipes and diapers, rubbing alcohol and almost all over the counter flu remedies.

There was plenty of meat, veggies, canned veggies, peanut butter, boxed dinners, etc.

Truthfully I find that funny at the US Open, my favorite major by far. First of all, it's run by the USGA instead of the PGA, which is like the Golden Scalpweasel compared to the GOPe eunuchs. Second, they find either a hugely long or gimmicky course, or both, and make the fairways as wide as dental floss and the rough as long and wild as the Nairobi bush. They dream at night about par being the winning score and come damn close to it. The drunk fans screaming shit is still dumb but somewhat more appropriate. And anyone making noise when someone's addressing the ball still gets run.

334 Mainland China recorded 11 new confirmed coronavirus cases
on Friday (13 March), the country's National Health Commission said on
Saturday, up from eight cases a day earlier. The number of new
infections in epicenter Hubei fell for a ninth straight day.

Now while numbers out of China are suspect I know someone from Wuhan who says that things are getting back to normal in most of the country. And even in the severe lock down in Wuhan people could go to stores to buy food. (Hopefully not for bat soup) Yet somehow the lack wits in this country think they will be boarded inside of their homes for years and have to survive on 500 rolls of toilet paper

Too bad the Establishment gets to chalk up another win that will be virtually impossible to reverse!

I console myself by noting that the populace voted Obama in twice (once after four years of demonstrated and obvious incompetence and corruption), and then returned Pelosi to power after only two years of Trump.

Surely, a bright future awaits!

I'm hoping that the CDC report on cases on Monday (for some reason no reporting on the weekend), will be stable and tha that will help. The decrease that people pointed to was because numbers were not yet available. If they spike, we'll see more panic, if they stabilize, we'll see less.

On another note, if people have "living wills" please make sure that you do not have a no ventilator under any circumstances clause, make sure pneumonia is excluded. I really do wonder if living wills helped end the lives of the Kirkland people.

377 China discovers the virus and suppresses the information as long as possible, allowing untold number of infected Chinese to enter the US.

Pelosi delays the impeachment articles until January in a amateurish attempt to time impeachment with an Italy type epidemic in the US. Did she have a heads up from the Chinese or from somebody in CIA or State or who?

But! Trump does the unexpected and stops all Chinese entry into the US and quarantines anybody who does enter. He also takes personal charge of the response because NIH and CDC were fumbling along per H1N1 in 2009.

Also, Trump immediately brings Ambassador Doctor Birx into his inner circle and probably makes her his go to on the science.

Trump personally mobilizes government and industry to rapidly implement Birx's recommendations.

If Birx is right (high probability) and this virus is contained in the next 4 to 6 weeks with a low number of casualties, then the Democrat fear and smear campaign with backfire in unimagined ways.

Pelosi's plan would have worked if she were dealing with a "normal" GOP politician president. Instead, she is dealing with someone who is extremely successful in both business and media.

P.S. Birx is credited with stopping the spread of AIDS in Africa. Also check the body language at yesterday's press conference, Fucci ain't happy. Despite running from microphone to microphone, he is clearly not the go to guy here.

Despite making the announcement of the cancellation on Thursday, the school still held classes on Friday, then allowed a dance to stay scheduled last night. My daughter went, and normally 150-200 kids come. Thirty-eight showed up. Perhaps they were all out with their parents shopping for TP.

My question is - if we're supposed to take these people seriously, why wouldn't school on Friday and the dance have been cancelled also?

The person I know from Wuhan said the Chinese government said nothing because they didn't want to stop the Chinese New Years' celebrations. Wuhan is a transport hub of the country so people were traveling through Wuhan and spreading the disease around the country. She said very early on it was much worse than the Chinese govt was saying bases on what her family and friends were telling her. She said that now most of the country is getting back to normal but Hubei is still on a strict lock down.

408 I'm not looking to hoard up or anything; we just need the precious rolls.

With a self imposed austerity program, we can make it to mid-day Tuesday...after that things will get a little dicey

414 Cabin fever will set in shortly. When the promised body count isn't there, this will soon be remembered as another Y2K or Killer Bee invasion.

Someone I was watching yesterday noted that you can tell the media aren't journalists, but propagandists by the fact that there is never any followup, no post-mortem. They will tell you the end of the world is coming due to Trump going to North Korea, dropping Paris Accords, building the Wall, etc. etc. etc. ...but then nothing. It never comes true, they never note that fact, they never investigate what went wrong (or didn't go wrong, I guess) they just move on to the next outrage.

See impeachment, for example. Disappeared.

not officially "work from home" but I expect it to happen

know the management, they'll announce the WFH situation around 9:30 Monday morning

being proactive like I am (sometimes), I packed out & brought the CAD desktop home with me yesterday

I'm not planning on going in on Monday unless specifically told otherwise

417 My subset of the military are the worst shots I know. Only submariners are probably near us.

LOL! Oh Salty...

I shot expert on .45, M16 and the Air Force's .38, qualed M14 and riot gun.
But the most fun was shooting 7 for 8 with mk 48 torpedoes for two PCO's (prospective commanding officers). And the miss was deemed mechanical failure, so both guys had perfect shoots.
That shit's like a paid vacation for bubbleheads.

418 331 Repeat from last night:

If you see a communist taking Trump to task for his alleged mishandling of the ChiCom virus, remind him that Gaylord's administration couldn't build a functioning web site to sell health insurance, even when given a year's lead time.

Posted by: Rodrigo Borgia at March 14, 2020 08:41 AM (tLWGd)

Trump's move to give it to Google and make the project Google's instead of the governments was a stroke of brilliance. Instead of having to be responsible to make sure it works and is effective, he pushed the responsibility to Google.

I'm betting that Google can build a much more effective and solid app than Barry and his government contractors did for the O-care app that kept crashing.

And if they don't it's on Google, not Trump.

Brilliant.

Um, imagine if you were told that the choice is between people with face colanders rampaging in the street with machetes or submitting to an illegal and oppressive government that takes all your rights, to make you safe.

How do you think most people will react? How many people will submit?

That is what is happening. False choice, of course, but the goal is there.

423 ---
When I converted, this was one of the things I had to get used to. I mean they wipe the cup with a cloth between sips, but come on.

As it happens, we usually stood at the back of the church (esp. when we had little kids) which put us at the end of the line (and all that entails).

And yet, I hardly ever get sick. The priests drink last, every mass, day after day.

About 25 years ago, asked the priest at a dinner at our home about this very subject. Fr. Paul told us that they had done studies, and as long as they don't water down the wine (a little holy water is ok) that the alcohol percentage was sufficient to kill the germs. Red wine is around 13% to 14% by volume.

I don't believe I ever have gotten sick from drinking from the chalice, but when I had the sniffles I would always pass on the wine.
