For the gun-control zealot, it's a form of contempt-signaling, the even dumber negative form of virtue-signaling. Other members of their tribe are supposed to giggle at the image of Bubba impotently waving his "assault rifle" and Gadsden flag while an F-15 vaporizes him. One of the obvious problems with this "you can't beat the U.S. military so guns are no use against the military" idiocy is that tyrants around the world very clearly DO fear the prospect of an armed populace. That's why they always aggressively disarm their captive people. The track record of lightly-armed insurgencies against professional military forces in the modern era is actually pretty good, even when the military forces are vastly more aggressive and willing to inflict collateral damage than the U.S. armed forces ever would be.
To even speculate on how things would go if the U.S. armed forces became a gang of ruthless killers under some communist or fascist American tyrant is to enter the realm of science fiction. Healthy respect for the 2nd Amendment helps to ensure things never get that far. An armed population of sovereign citizens goes a long way toward keeping tyranny from ever getting off the ground. Of course collectivist Democrats with their hive-mind thinking don't consciously understand it, but the 2A is helping restrain their worst impulses RIGHT NOW. The many, many, many bad ideas of the Left all began as theoretical discussions, campus bullshit sessions, and Two-Minutes Hates in their online fever swamps. One thing that keeps their worse ideas from mutating into policy agendas is the reality of an armed populace. It really does make a difference that they know some of the collectivist ideas they would love to inflict on the American people would be effectively resisted. The Left knows it subconsciously, which is why they keep having spazzed-out fantasies of using F-15s to slaughter Bubba. They're trying to reassure each other that THEIR power is absolute while YOU have none at all. Once they trick you into submitting to socialized medicine, forced population shifts, or one of their other doomsday schemes, you'll be helpless. Deep down, they're not so sure. But long before you dip into left-wing psychosis or apocalyptic scenarios of armed revolt against a tyrant, you have the way armed citizens see themselves differently than disarmed ones. The first two amendments in the Bill of Rights profoundly shape the nature of citizenship. The 2nd Amendment UNDERMINES tyranny long before anyone has to think about FIGHTING it. If we stand tall as sovereign citizens and cherish our rights AND responsibilities - the 2nd Amendment is where they meet! - we won't get stuck with rulers we have to "take on." /end

One More Point: The US troops stationed in Germany were never really expected to hold off a gigantic Soviet invasion, with Soviet troops outnumbering ours 10:1. They were really there as a tripwire: The Soviets were made to know they could take Germany, but only by attacking US troops, which would invite the US to do their worst in reply. An armed citizenry doesn't have to defeat the government forces. Gandhi's Indian resistance didn't. The point of an armed citizenry is to say "NO" to overweening government, and put the government on notice: You can enslave us, but we will not permit you to pretend otherwise. If you mean to enslave us, you'll be forced to physically enslave us. And kill us. And that forces the government to decide if it can maintain control of conservative-leaning, freedom-oriented military personnel and cops, ordering them to murder civilians. That's another kind of tripwire. Yeah, you can order American soldiers to gun down Americans, but... how many do you think they'll kill before they start thinking that it might be better to point their guns in the opposite direction?

If you had actually bothered to read what ace wrote, Buck doesn't put up his own threads. He writes them and ace chooses when or if they get posted. When they go up the guy might not even be around. So whining about him not being around to defend his post is kind of weak because he's not necessarily around.

That actually makes quite good sense. This is an international trade issue, meaning big international corps may take a financial it. But it is NOT a US Economy issue, which mean smaller cap, local companies should do just fine.
The MegaCorps aren't as tightly linked to the US Economy as Nasdaq level companies are.

The real point of having weapons if the government devolves into tyranny is to make it as expensive in lives as possible for the oppressors. As some point, there won't be any more door-kicking fascist tools, since no one will want the job. Then you'll get the scene of buildings being flattened by tanks and such, then potentially neighborhoods (along with collateral damage to enrage the uncommitted).
If you think the nation will continue functioning normally at that point, you're delusional. It will descend into functional warlordism, with only a loose authority structure that occasionally ventures into "no go" zones for specific missions to disrupt counter-government activity --- i.e. Afghanistan, Vietnam, etc.

Something the Ruling Class forgets is that *enlisted men* don't get to do that neat thing where they can resign their commissions or lodge a formal protest.
For the rankers, it's do or die. If you refuse an order, you may as well mutiny because the end result will be the same.
David French and Mayor Pete don't know anything about this, because they regard enlisted ranks as a servant class that is too stupid to do anything other than carry out their wishes.

When the uprising in Romania was beyond the ability of the Securitate (police) to control, the gov't called in the military.
That in turn forced the troops to choose between shooting unarmed citizens or joining them. The whole chain of command crumbled in the face of that decision with the result that Nicolai ended up getting shot on Christmas Day.

I get this is an...emotional issue for some. And it's very much 'America's Gun' as much as the M16 is.
But...it's not a great platform. Modern 1911's are worlds better than older versions and they still malfunction way more than any gun designed since the 1980's. Field stripping is more complicated than it needs to be, the manual of arms is a bit odd.
Can they work? Yes.
Are they worlds better than no gun or revolvers? Yes
Do they have nice triggers? Hell yes.
But there are better options now.

So they certainly think certain strategic murders can be very effective. Mike Flynn died way too soon, so did Breitbart ... maybe just the stress killed them, idk any details. But I don't think the point of guns now is to take on the military. It would be to take on the mob leaders, the way they have been targeting us (some murder, but a lot of malicious prosecution of leaders)
Bush and others believed in fighting them over there so we don't have to fight them here. That might apply on a more local level ... if they start breaking down doors in dawn raids on patriots ... they might find the patriots doing their own targeted raids, rather than waiting for the thugs to come (not) knocking.

The GSFG did heavily outnumber US Forces and had a numerical advantage over NATO forces. But, as it turns out, we assumed the Soviet "tip of the spear" was in fact sharp enough to act. By the mid 80s, that is a very dubious proposition as to whether the Soviet forces might have been able to advance very far from their bases in Central Europe.
Perhaps in the 60s and early 70s they had a greater advantage. I was there for much of the 70s and our forces had problems.
But we always seem to over estimate our weakness and over estimate the abilities of our adversaries. Just like we did with the MiG-21, and MiG-25. These were thought to be invincible until we got our hands on them.
Soviet forces were large but poorly maintained, poorly designed and built, and poorly trained and led. We always seem to forget that.
Their East European allies were of dubious value at best and may well have been a liability in actual combat.

Honestly, you'd have a lot of desertions on each side. It isn't what they signed up to do.
In Spain, the troops were conscripts, so when Franco made his move, the side you were on was based largely on what the commander in your area chose to do.
The only loyal troops were the Spanish Foreign Legion (who rallied to Franco) and the Popular militias, who were basically mobs. The "regulars" were not super-reliable at first.

Enough would follow orders, and enough citizens would surrender willingly that confiscation, etc., would have a pretty good head of steam going before the bullets started flying out of front doors. But then you would have a fairly dedicated core of govt lackeys, and the attendant economic collapse would keep many in uniform on the gov't side, if only to eat.
It would be bleak, and long, but in the end, you'd have wholesale fracturing and then gradual reconsolidation into regional new governments.

But those were limited in their scope and all backfired on the government as far as support.
I don't doubt the government's ability to enforce a law, right or wrong, in a limited fashion but the idea that the military would be down with suppressing something like half the population seems over the top to me.
A lot of my family served in the military and none of them were mindless automatons. They served because they loved their country not because they wanted to attack it.

They'll look like everyone else so what are they going to do? Just randomly shoot people? How is that going to work for them when Jane Lefty gets a forehead ventilation?
How are they going to protect the cities as well as the numerous supply lines needed to do that while also being able to project significant power into the hinterlands? This is a big fucking country and flyover country is most of it. Do they think people are just going to form up in lines and just march right at them?
They're forgetting the American Revolution. You know why we won? It wasn't because we had bigger armies, better supplies, or better generals. We didn't have any of that shit. What we had was a bunch of people willing to play dirty and who used the vast tracts of land to disappear into when the British showed up in force. We lost almost every head to head fight with the British Army for YEARS. guerrilla tactics and fading away to fight another day infuriated these British generals. They couldn't win and they knew. They wrote letters saying we can't win this we can hold cities and it means nothing.
We don't have to march on NYC or Washington, D.C. (although shelling those places into rubble would be satisfying). All they have to do is hit and fade, hit and fade and just make it an awful mess for the government to try and maintain a presence. That's not even talking about what they could do to turn the cities into hellscapes. No water and no power and the government is going to be too busy trying to maintain order in the city to do much else.
It wouldn't even take that many people to cause massive, MASSIVE damage to the government.
So Potato Joe can fart out his nonsense all he wants, but if it ever comes to shooting the government is going to find itself in a serious fight that will last years and probably decades.

Glocks are pretty easy and don't require nearly as much attention.

I literally didn't fire my M1911 for over a year so I could focus on several other guns.
I picked up my M1911 a few weeks back and shot it better at the same distance that I was shooting most other pistols.
I don't think the M1911 is a particularly difficult pistol to use and mine malfunctions no more than any other pistol I have fired on a regular basis.

The reason the U.S. military has trouble against insurgents is that they are fighting under absurd rules of engagement. In the standard socialist scenario, they would not be so restrained, and would instead function like the Red Army during the Russian Civil War, slaughtering with gratuitous abandon.
More, they would be followed up by the Chekists, arranging mass round ups and executions before any partisan resistance began, never mind the hostages they will collect and slaughter afterwards.
As for the constant assertion that the American military would "never" do anything like that, I refer people as I always to do what happened to the Bonus Army, and highlight that those were not "just" ordinary, everyday, Americans, but American veterans that MacArthur fired on, helped by Patton and his armored cars. And also never mind all the instances of the militia showing up to settle strikes during the Progressive Era. There is a reason the socialists and anarchists did not win that time, despite the 2nd Amendment and legal machine guns.
For that matter, never mind who exactly will have to suppress Antifa when it goes berserk following Trump's re-election.

The current round of Red Flags laws is just the more aggressive example; guilty until proven innocent through a bureaucratic procedure that has no remedy or restitution. I expect many of them to be challenged and a few successfully, but that's not going to be the only avenue for destruction.
They never stop and they never fail to press on all fronts, avenues, routes. The overt ones are easy to see and defy.
The ones carried out by 100,000 office workers in state and Fed buildings are the ones 2A defenders will have the most difficult time with.
