Oh wait, that would be immoral, say the people who have been actively sabotaging the GOP for three election cycles in a row now.The New York Time reports -- or wishcasts -- that the Democrat Party is so determined to stop Bernie Sanders that they're considering thwarting the party's majority will to do so. Or near majority, anyway: If Bernie comes in with the most votes but not the actual majority required by the rules for a first ballot, no-super-delegate win, then they'll nominate someone else. They know this will damage the party, but some are saying it would be worth it to damage the party to stop the greater damage of Candidate Sanders.
Dozens of interviews with Democratic establishment leaders this week show that they are not just worried about Mr. Sanders's candidacy, but are also willing to risk intraparty damage to stop his nomination at the national convention in July if they get the chance. Since Mr. Sanders's victory in Nevada’s caucuses on Saturday, The Times has interviewed 93 party officials -- all of them superdelegates, who could have a say on the nominee at the convention -- and found overwhelming opposition to handing the Vermont senator the nomination if he arrived with the most delegates but fell short of a majority. .... This article is based on interviews with the 93 superdelegates, out of 771 total, as well as party strategists and aides to senior Democrats about the thinking of party leaders. A vast majority of those superdelegates -- whose ranks include federal elected officials, former presidents and vice presidents and D.N.C. members -- predicted that no candidate would clinch the nomination during the primaries, and that there would be a brokered convention fight in July to choose a nominee. In a reflection of the establishment's wariness about Mr. Sanders, only nine of the 93 superdelegates interviewed said that Mr. Sanders should become the nominee purely on the basis of arriving at the convention with a plurality, if he was short of a majority.Biden has retaken the lead in Florida, after Bernie's boosting of Fidel Castro. But meanwhile, the Bernie Bros -- who surely include a lot of antifa members -- are harassing Democrat officials so much that they keep getting the cops called on them.
The night before the Nevada caucuses, the chairman of the state's Democratic Party called police after several supporters of Bernie Sanders gathered outside his home at 11 p.m. with a bullhorn to issue a warning about the next day's election. "I want assurances that there isn’t going to be any shenanigans going on tomorrow. The Democratic Party does not control what happens," Maria Estrada, a self-described "Berner" from Los Angeles, said into the bullhorn, according to a Facebook Live video she streamed on her personal page. She repeatedly said she didn't want to see a repeat of the 2016 election, which she insinuated was rigged against Sanders. At least three other times in recent days, Estrada led a group of Sanders supporters who gathered late at night outside the homes of Democratic Party officials and California lawmakers, including those of Secretary of State Alex Padilla and state Democratic Party Chairman Rusty Hicks. Police were called at least twice.Meanwhile, Biden just dropped an anti-Sanders ad, claiming Sanders wanted to primary Barack Obama.

Bernie for sure, to mix metaphors, greases the skids of Trump's coattails. But I think if Bernie is denied, cheating or fairly, his base will not settle for the Dem nominee. They will stay home. I think the House is very much in play, and will probably swing back to GOP for sure if Bernie is the nom.

Eric Sawllowswell was on MSNBC a sort time ago, and sounded very sane and reasonable, and was not in total blame-Trump mode. He said he and his colleagues are rooting for the President's success in handling the COVID-19 threat. He should go a step further - order way more than we need right now, exclusively from American manufacturers, while there's a crisis to justify the spending, and stuff FEMA's warehouses to the gills. Then if there is a major outbreak, either now or any time before its obsolete, we're covered.

One, early voting means that a lot of folks have already voted, Two, Corona virus coverage is going to mute any positive effect from SC because people won't hear it. I think it would have been possible. A lot of people got mad at Ted. His silence in the lnationalist Republicans. And that's not even getting into what would have been typically Republican performances in the blue wall. Maybe not huge- but decisive, certainly.
In the same vein, Bernie is clearly the authentic socialist choice. Mess with him at your peril. An AOC type could have beaten him. But she correctly chose to build a machine for him instead. Time will tell if it can survive, but if Trump doesn't destroy the Democratic party? I think it will.

Quite a few. I worked out of Tampa for a number of years which had Ybor City, a Cuban stronghold, as a neighbor. I still have a number of friends in the area and they say that there is a pretty steady stream coming from Venezuela and of course PR which is obviously not Cuba but there are a lot of ex-pat Cubans in PR. South Florida is still ground zero but it isn't the only spot in FL with an anti-commie vibe.
The sheer volume of anti-commie feeling in Florida spread beyond the Cuban/Latin American community at least when I was there.

In fact the Democrat party since at least the Obama presidency has been a coalition of coalitions. These are inherently unstable coalitions because their social and economic interests are in conflict. They all voted for the first "black" president but would they vote for an old white male communist. I doubt it.
The bottom line is the leadership of the party that calls itself the democrat party is more afraid of Donald Trump than they are of Russia or any soviet style communist sympathizer like Bernie Sanders and his followers. Even if he gets the absolute majority required by party rules, I think there is a chance he will somehow be disqualified. The large number of democrat candidates was clearly a design feature not a bug to insure that there would be no absolute majority by any candidate.

I got in the weeds of just what Nate Silver is doing here. How the hell do you "simulate the primary". It's some new insanely complicated model he's come up with.
It's basically a Monte Carlo style simulation. But how the hell do you do that? I was reading his methodology, and I have no idea if its valid or not.
Each simulation throws in all sorts of variable factors in, like probabilities of a scandal taking one candidate out, etc, etc. And it tries to take into account the effect of prior primaries on later primaries. Ie, some candidate wins, it gives him a boost in later ones.
Insanely complicated business. I have no idea how close to reality it is.

Silver seems to do ok with his predictions. He has been pretty consistent in trying to downplay the whole "X is going to win by twelve points!" stuff from pollsters, and favors discussing probabilities. In 2016 he was one of the few who kept saying that Trump still had a decent chance to win, and IIRC even pointed out that Trump's best chance was to win the upper Midwest.

Often these models make simplifying assumptions based on prior knowledge from previous contests (such as the probability of a scandal) applies equally to candidates. Thus when real data outside of the projected ranges or assumptions occurs, it can cause the model to blow up unless you incorporate them also into a newer version of the model.
That is why on election night in 2016, it began with Hillary almost assuredly winning then no so certain then the likelihood of Trump winning. Real data was replacing simulated data ranges and assumptions and required revising the old model to incorporate real data which was being updated through the day.
You could call this a learning model.
Or, like in 2016, you could take what Helmut Northpol predicted which was a Trump victory based on a few factors in March of that year. A historian, Lichtman, projected the same thing based on his "keys" to victory.
