The Saturday Night Joke
The Jewish Elbow, The Italian Grandfather and The Irish Blonde…

1. The Jewish Elbow

A Jewish grandmother is giving directions to her grown grandson who is

coming to visit with his wife.

"You come to the front door of the apartment. I am in apartment 301 . There

is a big panel at the front door. With your elbow, push-button 301. I will

buzz you in. Come inside, the elevator is on the right. Get in, and with

your elbow, push 3. When you get out, I'm on the left.. With your elbow, hit

my doorbell."

"Grandma, that sounds easy, but, why am I hitting all these buttons with my

elbow? ........

"What . . . .. .. You're coming empty-handed?"
-------------

2. Wise Italian Grandfather

Why Italian Fathers and Grandfathers pass their handguns down through the

family.

An old Italian man is dying. He calls his grandson to his bedside, Guido, I

wan' you lissina me. I wan'a you to take-a my chrome plated .38 revolver so

you will always remember me."

"But grandpa, I really don't like guns.. How about you leave me your Rolex

watch instead?"

"You lissina me, boy. Somma day you gonna be runna da business, you gonna

have a beautiful wife, lotsa money, a big-a home and maybe a couple of

bambinos. "

"Somma day you gonna come-a home and maybe finda you wife inna bed with

another man.

"Whatta you gonna do then? Pointa to you watch and say, 'times up' "?

-----

3. The Irish Blonde...

An attractive blonde from Cork, Ireland, arrived at the casino. She seemed a little intoxicated and bet twenty thousand dollars in a single roll of the dice.

She said, "I hope you don't mind, but I feel much luckier when I'm completely nude." with that, she stripped from the neck down, rolled the dice and with an Irish brogue yelled, "Come on, baby, Mama needs new clothes!"

As the dice came to a stop, she jumped up and down and squealed. "Yes! Yes! I won, I won!" She hugged each of the dealers, picked up her winnings and her clothes and quickly departed.

The dealers stared at each other dumbfounded. Finally, one of them asked, "What did she roll?" The other answered, "I don't know - I thought you were watching."

MORAL OF THE STORY

Not all Irish are drunks, not all blondes are dumb,..... but all men...are men!

Sailing a 42' sailboat from Japan to Hawaii is a challenge f*cking nuts.

n November 25, 2019, Chris Carney and his two-man crew, Pete Brown and Jun “Sumi” Sumiyama, set off from Japan on their way to Hawaii in a 42-foot sailboat, the Coco-Haz III. They had four weeks to cross the world’s largest ocean. The boat’s owner, a retired Japanese dentist, needed the trip done in a hurry—he’d lose a boat slip he’d rented if it didn’t arrive in time. Carney didn’t think they would make it on schedule, even if everything went right. But things went far worse than he imagined when two catastrophes left them stranded in the middle of the sea.

Here is Carney’s story, as told to Outside.

It was morning when it happened. I got my raingear on and went up on the deck to make some changes to our course. I stuck my head up, and I couldn’t believe it—the mast was gone.

One of the shrouds that connected it to the ship just broke, I guess from metal fatigue. I’ve been sailing most of my life, and not only has this never happened on any boat I’ve been on, but I don’t know anybody else who’s had this happen to them, the mast just snapping like that.

I'm not endorsing violence. However, a certain woman is lucky she is still in one piece.

An 81-year-old pensioner used her parrot as a ‘weapon’ to ‘torture’ her neighbours and forced them to listen to ‘seven hours of continuous Toy Story’ during a three-year campaign of harassment. Catherine Searle hurled dog poo over Paul and Lydia Appleton’s fence, scratched the bonnet of their car and ramped up the volume of her TV and radio to ‘overstimulate’ the bird into screeching for ‘days on end’, a court heard. Her victims, from Seal in Kent, described the piercing squawks as ‘Chinese torture’. Speaking about the ordeal, Mr Appleton said: ‘On one occasion we had Toy Story being played in her kitchen on a continuous loop. It was being played really really loud. She was over in her other neighbour’s garden having a drink and laughing. It was just noise. I’m guessing it was about seven hours of continuous Toy Story.’

Every day I thank God I don't have neighbors.

I had never heard of Takonta, AK. Iditarod mushers have. And they love the town.

EACH MARCH, IDITAROD MUSHERS CALL their 14 dogs to a halt in Takotna, Alaska. They know that stopping there means two things. First, they’re just 623 miles from the Burled Arch in Nome, Alaska, which is the finish line of the highly competitive sled-dog race. Second: There will be pie. Lots of pie.

All I can do is laugh. Point and go, "Sucks to be you."

CANADA will stop paying for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's security costs once they step back from royal duties, the Canadian government said today.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police have been assisting the Metropolitan Police with security for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex "intermittently" since November, when the couple began a six-week holiday in Canada.

You wanted to be "commoners" now live like us. LOLGF!

Birthday presents can be delightful. And other times not. Genius Award Winners.

FEBRUARY 25--Bryan Delgado-Villatoro will not soon forget his 24th birthday.

After his topless girlfriend provided him with oral and manual favors while they were driving earlier this month, Delgado-Villatoro and Heder Priscilla Cascante-Vargas, 23, began arguing inside their 2010 Toyota as it traveled in Hobe Sound.

According to an arrest affidavit, the tumult inside the vehicle resulted in a crash after the speeding car swerved around another auto. Cascante-Vargas claimed to have been driving when the February 6 crash occurred.

When sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene, Cascante-Vargas (pictured above) was seen slapping her boyfriend in the face and chest as he told her to calm down. Delgado-Villatoro was arrested after allegedly ignoring a series of police orders.

“Why are you arresting him! I am the one that was hitting him, motherfuckers,” Cascante-Vargas reportedly declared before she, too, was handcuffed.

Cascante-Vargas then provided cops with a recap of the couple’s evening. “Cascante-Vargas also stated she was giving Delgado-Villatoro ‘head’ slang term for Fellatio. Cascante-Vargas stated she was also giving Delgado-Villatoro a hand job.”

Noting that it was her boyfriend’s birthday, Cascante-Vargas said she “wanted to look sexy so she took her shirt off while all this was happening.” Cops added, “Cascante-Vargas kept saying that she is a good girl.”

89 I think a lot of big shots in Iran have it because a lot of the big shots are mullahs who travel back and forth from Qom where this thing took hold, allegedly brought by Chinese muslim students.

Coronavirus has clearly gotten into the senior Iranian political leadership.

The account below, if true, is pretty horrific - it sounds as if the Iranian government is on the verge of collapse, due to the virus. Like China, there are now bodies lying on the street in Iran. The Iranians have refused to let in anyone from the World Health Organization.

Th opening Tweet:

Coronavirus epidemy in Iran has past the crisis level. The country is imploding - law and order to disappear in the next days. A number of officials already died and mass infection among hospital staff and police forces reported.

The rest of the report (from an Iranian resident in the UK):

Maybe it came from the same place as the Stuxnet virus? Deployed by Israel against Iran's nuke weapons establishment, then Iran sought Chinese help to contain the disease, and a cluster-fuck broke out? Note that Gilead, an Israeli company, seems to have a drug that can cure the COVID 19.

Just speculating here. I am a supporter of Israel, and if this speculation turns out to be the case, I would not think ill of them for doing it. Iran is a mad dog among nations.

97 A bad day, think again story.

My friend was leaving a job and was training a new lumber store delivery truck driver. The truck had a 12' flatbed and 8 gears, along with very sensitive airbrakes. He trains the driver on the truck, taking him out on a couple of runs, telling him to be careful with the airbrakes. So the guy goes out on his first solo run. On the way back after picking up a load of two by fours, he stops the truck at a red light but apparently hit the brakes just a little too hard and the load shifted. Came rolling into the yard with two by fours through the back window of the cab but not breaking the windshield, barely missing his head. He was fired on the spot.

Then I was 'promoted' to delivery truck driver. Driving 8 gears was fun, but those were some very sensitive airbrakes.

The vector was apparently Chinese Muslim students studying in Qom. Iran didn't ban travel from China, because they are too dependent on the Chinese government, and they didn't want to call attention to the epidemic, because they had an election coming up.

Senior religious leaders are constantly commuting between Qom and Teheran - Qom is the religious center, and is the source of political legitimacy for the mullahs.

I rather doubt that Israel would trigger off a full-blown pandemic just a thousand miles from Israel - the chance of blowback is pretty obvious.

120 The day went okay. Only had to go halfway to pick up the stepson and grandson. Weather was good up to Tacoma. Three of my husband's nephews were there. The one from Utah brought the macaw and his new cockatoo. People loved seeing them.

Stayed at Owen beach for a bit and drove the five mile to see if there was a good place to scatter the ashes. Decided to do that from the Vashon ferry. It turns out you can do that legally these days. They even stop the ferry for you. Only problem was that my idea of scattering ashes is to empty the bag. Their idea is to drop the biodegradable bag over board. And I didn't wait to the stop. So they told me I'd created a biohazard.

Made the trip back with a tired, cranky two year old. The memorial's tomorrow and I drive them back to the coast.

In the UK proper, royals and nobles (anyone with a title) is not eligible to run for Commons elections. They are Lords, not common.

The House of Lords power has been greatly reduced. In the old days, it was common for members of the Lords to hold Cabinet posts, but it's traditional now for them all be from Commons.

Now, I'm sure there are similar rules in other commonwealth nations. Harry wouldn't be a proper citizen of Canada anyway.

And Canada doesn't have titles/nobility for themselves anyway, do they?

Anyway, a royal running for office or even suggesting it would cause the biggest clusterfuck uproar you've ever seen.

Hell, I've seen a thing or two when I was the driver. Went out to pick up three pallets of concrete patio blocks, two square block pallets and one round block pallet. The load was so heavy the front wheels of the cab were 'floating'; when I got in the cab, my weight helped put the wheels on the ground. On the way back, I had to go over a humpback bridge. I was in low first gear, barely doing 5 to 10 miles per hour. Going up the one side was easy, but going down was a whole 'nother story. There was a traffic light at the foot of the bridge that turned yellow while I was still a distance away. But I knew I could not stop without my head being crushed by those patio blocks. So I laid on the horn and blew a red light. When I got back to the yard, I was shaking from that pickup. Probably my scariest moment driving anything.

257 So, what do we call cartoons published in magazines? "Cartoon" sounds like something animated, "comic" seems to imply a continuing series, and the New Yorker's solution--"drawing"--sounds pretentious.

"Funny picture"?

Call them "cartoons". If you want to be picky, "single-panel cartoons". "Animated cartoons" are a whole different category. And "comics" are usually "multi-panel cartoons".

Well, Biden winning is a miracle and miracles rate coverage -- even by the atheist media.

I just find it unfathomable that ol' Gropin' Joe, with his Sundowner Syndrome, actually won. It really goes to show how strong the propaganda media is when they lie by omission by not covering a certain story. There's no way if a Republican candidate had been as gaffetastic as Slow Joe that that would not be covered 24/7, with all the talking airheads saying he was unelectable due to mental deficiencies. But I guess mental deficiencies are de rigueur for Democrats.

263 Mel Blanc was classic as Bugs and Daffy and Yosemite Sam, but he did a lot of other voice work on radio. There is a pretty bad show called the Cisco Kid, he played Pancho, the sidekick. One accent Mel couldn't do is Mexican.

Most of the big radio stars were required to portray southern accents as part of their roles, these are almost universally really bad. Any sort of fake accent is jarring to my ears. I ain't no ways tahrd.

The reason the medieval catholic church banned marriage for clerics and church officials had very little to do with morality; it was because they were in a world where Titles were everything, and all Titles were inherited. They did not want any Church Official thinking that they could pass on their titles to their heirs. Illegitimate children were actually not much of a problem since they were forbidden to inherit under any of the legal codes of the day.

When trying to employ as few words as possible in a self-plugging link, it's hard to convey what to expect. "Hey, lookit my cartoon!" So, someone tunes in expecting a three-minute Chuck Jones-esque pro animation and it's just some one-panel idle sketch I did!

That's true of every big West Coast city - the real Chinatown in San Francisco is now Clement Street, the real Chinatown in Portland is 82nd Avenue, the Chinese in Seattle have largely moved to the suburbs, etc.

There are almost no Chinese businesses left in the historical Portland Chinatown, the Chinese gate and the Chinese garden there notwithstanding.

A cartoon is what you call the underlaying sketch of a mural before the colors / details are added. Some mosaic artists also use the term for rough sketches / outlines of where to lay blocks of tiles.

433 Rodrigo Borgia, Pope Alexander VI, is believed to have fathered at least seven, and possibly as many as ten, illegitimate children, all after he took Holy Orders, and at least one after he became Pope.

He even made one of his illegitimate sons a Cardinal, which is the kind of thing that would get you talked about nowadays.

On the other hand, Roddy did seem to prefer relationships with adult women, which puts him well above some others that could be mentioned.

Doesn't feel right. As others have mentioned, Israel generally isn't evil enough to kill off innocent people in large numbers (and also smart enough not to risk the blowback that would occur if this became known).

Even the Stuxnet virus was carefully crafted to ONLY run on the particular model of Siemens uranium centrifuge that the Iranians were using. Anything else, it would infect and spread, but would cause no harm whatsoever.

457 Perhaps the greatest irony in the life of Rodrigo Borgia is that he is considered a "Bad" Pope because he used the office to primarily advance his power and wealth. It seems certain that he had a few rivals poisoned along the way, as every Italian power player of the day did, and he was quite taken with lavish parties, wild women, and drink. But other than those personal failings, he seems not to have done much wickedness on a larger scale.

His successor was the reformer Julius II. Julius despised his predecessor, and personally led wars up and down the Italian peninsula to strike at what he saw as the Church's enemies. The wars of Julius killed tens of thousands, and also bankrupted the Church to the point that he ordered the widespread sale of Indulgences, so that he could get more money to fight more wars. Oh, but Julius stayed away Women and Drink, so Julius was a "good" Pope. Even though his body count was easily 1000 times more than the much maligned Rodrigo.

After tonight, I expect the Dem establishment to keep Biden running on life support as long as possible, just to deny delegates to Burny.

It's clear after South Carolina that blacks WILL NOT vote for ButtJizz, Burny, Fauxcahontas, or Microbe. I expect the same with Latino votes in California, Florida, and Texas.

If they go into the general election without the black vote, it's all over. What minuscule chance they might've had becomes non-existent.

Not to mention that Trump has been busy attempting to peel away black and Latino votes to begin with (with, apparently, some success).

8/16% = 50%. Biden got 50% of those voting, and thus won the primary. It's still proportional, but with a floor of 15%, divided into congressional districts with a a statewide allocation.

Biden and Bernie will split delegates proportionally.

OTOH, I really don't think the Corona virus is going to hit the U.S. as severely as it has other countries. As close as I can tell, Trump and the administration have been very pro-active. They began banning visitors from Cina a while back, and are constantly expanding the ban to people from other countries as the virus starts spreading. I also think the CDC is working round the clock to try to at least keep up if they can't get in front of it. And we are cooperating with WHO and other medical groups. Neither China nor Iran will accept outside help.

Biden won all counties. I note that Pickens was about the only I see where Bernie came close to Biden.

At any rate, SC has 9 electoral votes, 7 congressional districts. Delegates are thus 7/9 congressional and the remaining statewide.

Floor is 15%. Candidates above that get delegates in proportion to their share of the vote. I don't think anyone else got above 15% in a congressional district.

Biden will get the majority of delegates, but Bernie will get some as well.

I live in the SF Bay Area so I guess it's not surprising here. The guy was friendly enough and didn't seem like the kind of Bernie Bro that would spray rifle fire at a bunch of guys playing softball, so it wasn't an entirely unpleasant exchange. I kinda wish I could've stayed longer to chat, even though I'm not the kind to engage in long convos with strangers. However, a Costco gas station is not the place for prolonged political discussions. I wonder what this guy's supervisor would think about him flitting about the pumps, proclaiming the Gospel of Bernie to a captive audience...

531 I will say this...

I've had two conversations with strangers this week, and free healthcare is a friggin' sirens' song to these people. And I get it; I'm self-employed and can't afford individual health insurance. It's the main reason Average Wife has had to work all the years we've been married. If the Republicans could come up with a plan for bringing some sanity back into the healthcare market, they wouldn't loose an election for the next 50+ years. Of course, with an entitled populace demanding more entitlements, that's pretty much a pipe dream.

532
I just read through the SC Dem delegate allocation and selection rules. Complicated mess. 54 total pledged delegates, plus 9 "automatic delegates", which is the term of art for the superdelegates.

Of the 54 pledged, 35 are chosen by Congressional district, but each district does not get equal weight. The weight is chosen by the total Dem vote for POTUS and governor in the last general elections. Thus, heavier Dem districts get more share of the vote.

You then have 12 at-large delegates, allocated according to the total state-wide proportion. Then you another 7 pledged party leader and elected official delegates. These are only open to party officials and state elected officials. They are allocated by state-wide results, same as the regular at-large.

Thus 35 go by weighted congressional district, and 19 go by statewide results.

Now, this being the Dems they have complicated rules about race and gender. The gender has to be 50/50, odd man or woman out for odd numbers.

They've even added rules about non-binary delegates. They don't count as gendered.

Another thing the Republicans should bang on about when it comes to 'free healthcare as done in Europe' is to talk about population size. European countries with 'free healthcare' have populations far, far less than the US. This makes it easier to do versus trying to manage the costs and service allocations in providing 'free healthcare' to some 320 million people.

On top of that, once healthcare is 'free', all in the medical profession effectively become employees of the gub'mint. Who's going to become a doctor/nurse when your salary is capped to contain costs? Only medical 'professionals' from the Third World, that's who.

Hell, we got people here in CA who repeatedly, voluntarily levy new taxes upon themselves. The healthcare system is broken, and not just by Obamacare. Trump is making baby-step progress in improving it through deregulation and price transparency. Ideally, the Repubs should devise a free-market healthcare reform plan that can get the backing of a majority of the American people. I just don't know if such a plan is possible.

And apparently on the wrong side of history, the Soviet Union had Universal Healthcare.

When it broke up, their Constitution said there would be universal health insurance.

They are in the middle of rewriting their Constitution right now, and it looks like they will have no Government guarantees at all.

How interesting.

573 the raving Leftards i deal with on a routine basis have been entertained, ceaselessly, with the ongoing drama that passes for "healthcare" with the VA here in Lost Angeles.

and herself, who they all know is in the biz as well, chimes in to reinforce.

so when, at a public meeting i say "by all means, vote for M4A. i want to see the look on your face when you get the same lack of care i get from the VA every day..."

yeah, it gets their attention.

does it sink in? who knows....

but they cringe.

574 I said "DMV," but that's getting to be cliche. "Your doctors and nurses will be government employees. Have you LOVED every doctor and nurse that ever touched you or your kids? No? How'd you like to get surgery from a GS-13 who can't be fired?"
Posted by: Blonde Morticia at March 01, 2020 02:02 AM (G51Gf)

You touch on the biggest problem with Government run health care.

Lack of choice. You can't LEAVE a Dr or facility you don't like, or don't trust.

I had a couple of really good VA Doctors, and one I wouldn't trust to operate on my Son. Luckily I had the resources to take him to another place.

When its a Government monopoly you won't have that choice.

As to healthcare? It's not a matter of comparing it to the VA or DMV.

They're shining examples of willing spirits and government efficiencies.

Yeah, you wanna make a description of what "free" healthcare is gonna be like, just put it into the hands of your Homeowners' Association, and you're the miscreant whose lawn is 1/2 inch too tall.

577 Hmm...apparently Asimov was investigated by the FBI for being a Soviet spy under the code name "ROBPROF".

I mean....if that was really what they called him they wanted him caught...

But is seems the FBI investigated and moved on, either clearing him or at least finding no incriminating evidence.

A couple of interesting points here, for all the shrill calls of McCarthyism, it looks like the FBI was pretty damn professional here as the investigation didn't leak out until decades later and the FBI doesn't seem to have done anything negative to their target of inquiry.

The modern FBI could learn a lot from those guys....

595 Ideally, the Repubs should devise a free-market healthcare reform plan that can get the backing of a majority of the American people. I just don't know if such a plan is possible.

**********

There is a whole generation of American doctors who are willingly compliant with a system in which they are nothing but a commodity, having abdicated their role as owner-operators for one as a corporate-employee. A free-market healthcare system requires physicians with skin in the game. I'm not sure the docs can reclaim the throne from the bureaucrats and hospital administration industry. To do so would require massive re-training and a major shift in philosophy.

I see a brokered convention.

Joe is melting, publicly. Bleeding into his eyes ... ? But he has some delegates and lots of party support ...

People finally give Bernie a close examination, involving latex gloves, and he reveals himself, as everyone suspected, to be a crazed lighthouse keeper, straight out of Scooby Doo. Maybe he folds, publicly, again, when a couple of radical activists take his microphone from him, on stage, showing his lack of ability or suitability to wield political power, and gross unsuitability to be President.

Warren becomes intolerably shrill, as her past record of upwards failure is publicly aired. I suspect someone has had a chance to examine her PhD dissertation and determine the truth about a rumor I heard (but only when she initially hit the political scene) about the data she used (it's all a pant-load).

The others are comedy sideshows, except for Bloomberg and Steyer, who have piles of money. I think neither of them will play second banana, so no Bloomberg-Steyer combination ...

Bloomberg-Biden or Steyer-Biden?

Like I said, I don't know if a free-market healthcare reform plan is possible. Would require turning everything about the health industry upside-down. That's why universal healthcare is such an easy sell; it's merely expanding what people have come to expect. After decades of gradually handing off more & more of the responsibility for our own healthcare to an increasingly complex network of middlemen, how do we go back to the simple doctor/patient mutually-beneficial free trade arrangement?

Slow Joe has no appeal, it was his turn

You've got to remember that the only people left in SC that are Democrats are blacks and the professional Party members. As for the blacks Biden was a confidant of Obama so the blacks turned out for him in droves. He won by over a 30 point margin. But when it comes to the general Trump will wipe the floor with any Democrat in SC

651 Biden's level of corruption is hard to miss. The talk about his possible(?) dementia is even more troubling. Dems are truly nuts if they think Joe as president is a good idea.

652 Was there a large repub turnout? I wonder what percentage of repubs crossed over to vote for bernie or some other dem.

653 Reading Slow Joe because of SC might be come the best hope of the Democrats since Bloomie just isn't getting any traction.

658 The others are comedy sideshows, except for Bloomberg and Steyer, who have piles of money. I think neither of them will play second banana, so no Bloomberg-Steyer combination ...
Bloomberg-Biden or Steyer-Biden?

659 I remember Kamala Harris saying you wouldn't have to worry about being denied for services or treatments with government run health care. That's just a lie. I have a family member with MS and on disability and she gets turned down all the time, either for medicines, or treatments, or for restrictions on doctors she can see. She said she'd give anything to go back to her old private plan if she could afford it. Free health care works best for people with routine injuries or going in for your annual checkup.

Plus, in the UK under NHS, right after most women give birth they have to share a room and bathroom with six or seven other new mothers, and, in many hospitals, fathers aren't allowed to stay overnight in the ward. So, yes, giving birth is free, but there are trade-offs. Private rooms and private hospitals are available...but you often have to pay out of pocket for them.
