Protester Stopping Traffic Struck By Annoyed Commuter

That's a clickbait headline. I learned that from the allegedly professional media.

But it's an accurate headline.

No, she wasn't hit by a car.

She was hit by a traffic cone thrown by a pissed off commuter.

How effective is a traffic cone as a thrown weapon?

Based on this video -- Not too shabby!!! It scored 7 points of STUN damage
and one BODY plus 3" of knockback.*

Also, Sundown Joe is getting ready to lope off into the sunset:

* Can you name the RPG system? Man, did I go berserk when I first read this system's rules. It could well be the single most influential RPG ruleset apart from D&D.

80 >>>Sadly, its kind of a forgotten system So good, but people don't knjow it and its gotten a reputation of being insanely complicated over the years.

well they're determined to make it an Ur-System, like GURPS, with rule modules to cover every conceivable genre, and that results in incredible bloat.

Also, it just doesn't make sense to use the math-heavy, engineering-type feel of Champions for, say, a medieval fantasy game. Champions math/engineering feel works well for supers, which have sci-fi feel.

Anyway, they've spent 25 years bloating the rules to make it cover every genre instead of just focusing on what it did so well.

Actually, it works astonishingly well. You strip out all the superpowers and you have the core of a fast, easy to use game that doesn't require all the math to build a character. And the rules allow for either really simple, cinematic combat like a white hat "shoot the gun out of their hands" style or a really gritty, bloody, realistic one, depending on what dials you turn.

RPG= Role Playing Game. Lots of books and rules and dice and other crap I can no longer remember. It was entertaining in my yute. I seemed to be more interested in creating characters with odd combinations and see how far I'd get. Most never made too far. I was not a serious player playing a game that others took to seriously. Plus, my attention span could be counted in seconds while a teenager. You had to pay attention in D&D.

Spinning a 3-D object on the long axis is stable. On the short axis, also stable. But on the middle axis - unstable. So if you hold a tennis racket by the handle and throw it up so it spins and you catch it by the handle again, it will rotate while it spins.

212 Role Playing Games are just a system of rules around "lets pretend." You can call it interactive storytelling or whatever but basically its "OK i'm a wizard and you're a princess and lets go kill the dragon" when you're a little kid. Or playing cowboys and indians or having a tea party with your stuffed animals.

Its the grown up version of what everyone already knows how to do, letting you BE the characters instead of just watch them or read about them in a book or in on the screen.

243 It's stuff like "Obvious Accessible Focus" that is just jarring for me when it comes to stuff like weapons which you'd just assume that of.

Well you front load all that stuff so when it comes up in the game you know how everything interacts. Its an obvious accessible focus, so everyone can tell you're using it and what it does, its easy to grab away from you, and they can use it now, too. Like a gun.

But if its Thor's hammer, then its not; nobody can take it, nobody can use it but the "worthy" even though its pretty obviously a magic hammer.

Defining stuff like that makes it easy to use in play, but it front loads the work so making a character is more complicated and often intimidating.

You really have to factor in weight distribution and aerodynamics. Your traffic cone is heavily weighted at the base for obvious reasons and it increases the rate of spin.

And while it spins relatively true in a straight-line its large surface area makes the cone susceptible to wind gusts which need to be accounted for.

Everyone can toss a cone but it takes a lifetime to master.

"Well, you've certainly raised my awareness, I'll tell you that.

"Okay, please listen to me, very carefully. I'm going to go get back in my truck, put my seatbelt on and put it in gear. And [blank], please listen, if you are still standing here I will fucking run you over."

I wouldn't actually do this, probably, because that would undoubtedly make it premeditated or something-- plus the simple fact of the matter is that unless I was driving someone to the hospital or something I wouldn't consider it worthy of driving over someone in a truck. But I would definitely think about it.

386 I wouldn't actually do this, probably, because that would undoubtedly make it premeditated or something-- plus the simple fact of the matter is that unless I was driving someone to the hospital or something I wouldn't consider it worthy of driving over someone in a truck. But I would definitely think about it.

Make sure that you cut and paste your text into a document that you email to yourself so when you do get arrested for mowing down a protester, you can claim that you would never deliberately run someone over and the self addressed email is proof.

This tactic works in DC

In Vermont, Sanders didn't have a choice. The Vermonters might be Commies, but they're attached to their guns. I have no doubt that Sanders would be as anti-2nd Amendment as Gov. Blackface if he was elected president. After all, Sanders changed his tune about open borders.

I just think it's amusing that Bloomie thinks Sanders stance on guns is going to hurt him. The blue staters will ignore it and the red staters will like Sanders more.

You would think that all of the recipients of this media spend would be egging him on by lying about his deficiencies so that he keeps spending and spending and their bank accounts get larger and larger.

In the wonderful world of media spending, every time you click on a link, an auction goes out to bid on who gets the chance to place an advertisement in your feed or page. When you have Bloomberg acting as the perpetual highest bidder, it raises the cost of advertising on everyone.

458 @379 Actually a lot of women play RPGs now, which makes sense to me, as girls learn to play roles and take on a persona very well at a young age.

-------------------

Dungeons and Dragons night at my Friendly Local Game Store (FLGS) has a pretty good turn-out of both men and women. More of the former than the latter, but there's a sizable female contingent. The store has lots of table space devoted to open games, so this isn't just a "two groups playing, and a few of the players are women" sort of thing. It's "seven or eight tables with games, and every table has at least one - and frequently more - woman playing". The other game that gets a decent (though smaller) female contingent of players is Magic: The Gathering. The women who play that are almost always Asian. My guess is that they got started playing that game after watching their boyfriends play it.

Other RPGs are played in smaller numbers, and it's an even guess whether their will be women in those gaming groups.

The store has a board-game night for board and non-collectable card games, and there tend to be a lot of women present on those nights.

Women are all but non-existent in the miniatures wargame groups.

I knew Tanzanians who did medical school in Hungary, then came to the US.

Their bills were paid by the extended family, and the students were responsible to them.

Africans, in their own way, have strong functioning families. At least the ones who finish MD school.

Luckily for me, my parents were from different ethnic groups and my dad's family had a history of living amd mixing and marrying people of other groups. So we did not grow up with tribalism and it's still foreign to me.

Actually, my mom's family did too. One older sister married a white American (his family wasn't thrilled and they cut him off for a while - it was in the 60s; ours didn't mind) and another married an African from another country.

556 Just before I shipped off to Fort Sill, I had come back from a road trip to see the family. I realized I had almost no food, and payday was a couple of days out.

I had nothing but Cream-of-wheat, and a few cans of pork and beans.

I never, ever, want to experience that again.

There's a hippie store where I grew up that advertised it's "Earth Crystals" and "Lemurian Crystals."

If you're not familiar with Lemuria, it's the bonkers concept that a former content - encompassing the southern edge of modern India, Sri Lanka (as it's highest peak) and stretching to Madagascar. The rationale for this is the presence of Lemurs on Ceylon (Sri Lanka) and Madagascar. Therefore, there is clearly and obviously a lost continent. It was the putative Tamil empire before it got swallowed by the sea.

This was invented by Tamil nationalists who want a Tamil country (bits of southern India and Sri Lanka) to provide historical claims to the territory.

It always amused me to see the concept being used by an wizened old white guy in rural CO to hawk healing crystals.
