Great: Gucci's New Fashion Line Has a Theme of... "Anti-Toxic-Masculinity"

Oh right. I can see how that would work perfectly for, you know, clothes.

How do you fight toxic masculinity with clothes, you ask?

Simple. You just do what every designer's been doing for 30 years -- dress up men in effeminate clothing, including skirts and babydoll dresses.

[F]or his Fall 2020 men's collection in Milan today, Michele boiled down his vision for Gucci to its essence. He wanted to capture the purity of childhood, back when carefree days weren't tainted by societal norms, particularly those relating to masculine ideals.

...

"In a patriarchal society, masculine gender identity is often moulded by violently toxic stereotypes," read the show notes. "A dominant, winning, oppressive masculinity model is imposed on babies at birth. Attitudes, languages and actions end up progressively conforming to a macho virility ideal that removes vulnerability and dependence. Any possible reference to femininity is aggressively banned, as it is considered a threat against the complete affirmation of a masculine prototype that allows no divergencies."

That Hansel, he's so hot right now

Why don't you derlichte my balls?
Please find enclosed my written consent
for derlichting my balls.

There's some video of these, uh, festivities here.

Vogue is thrilled at the trans-gressiveness!

The biggest surprise on Gucci’s fall 2020 men’s runway in Milan today wasn’t the lack of prints or the retro, boyish silhouettes, but the slogan written on the front of a simple white tee: “impotent/impatient.” The shirt was part of double-printed motif inspired by punk musician Richard Hell that also included a T-shirt that read, “thank/think.” Will men sport a top advertising impotency?

So, if i have this right, you took the lazy hack "artiste" trick of just taking a hot-button buzzword and stenciling it on a white background -- "art" galleries are littered with a thousand "paintings" just consisting of the word "PRIVILEGE" -- and you just slapped it on a t-shirt?

How daring. How artistic.

In Alessandro Michele's new world of menswear, proclaiming oneself impotent (or impatient, for that matter) isn’t something to be ashamed of. Notes for the collection spoke of a rejection of toxic masculinity and an embrace of a genderless form of beauty. "Toxic masculinity, in fact, nourishes abuse, violence, and sexism. And not only that. It condemns men themselves to conform to an imposed phallic virility in order to be socially accepted," read the press release. To paraphrase: The patriarchy is over.

Yes, it's totally over.

In unrelated news, the top designer at Gucci is male and so is its CEO.

Related: The "anti-manspreading chair" is back in the news again, because the "award" winning designer admits it won't actually accomplish the thing this ugly chair was designed to accomplish.

103 It's a very simple answer. The "fashion" shows are for women.

Even if men are wearing the "fashion" in question.

How do I know this? Even the most liberal/feminized men in the most liberal/feminized industry (Hollywood, to be specific) may wear Gucchi or whatever other crap, but what they wear NEVER looks like this crap. It's always traditional suits and the like.

So, it's another example of the "matriarchy" where even men's "fashion" is designed to appeal to women.

In my experience, a scary number of women do. They love having a "man" around who can swish and bitch with the girls, be fashion-forward and up on all the latest gossip, but who isn't going to force some nasty, dirty penis on them at the end of the night.

But then again, I do live in New England.

115 103 It's a very simple answer.

248 Dunno about other cases, but in suit trousers, pleats make for more comfortable movement and sitting, and add service life by reducing stress on seams. All depends on the style and look. Don't think I have pleats on any non-suit pants except maybe one pair of khakis. Kind of adds a "dressed up" look to some extent, to.

Isn't the real "fashion" change in tiny things like this - pleats, lapel width, tie width, etc.? This bizarre crap at fashion shows has no connection to any commercial reality. Don't keep up, but these little marginal things were all that changed back/forth back when I had to do more clothes shopping.

408 They believe men need to be broken.

Amazing that they still believe that society made them masculine and not nature.

...Or is that just another lie, because they don't want to admit that they're battling nature... and, thus, God?

When I was last there (2003), there were swarms of Japanese schoolgirls, but they were dressed more like stewardesses than like sailor girls. It was white blouses over modest navy blue skirts and matching criss-cross neckties.

I discussed this in the last couple of years with my brother who takes his family there regularly for vacations. My brother said that Hawaii has been swarmed with Japanese tourists, including what looks like school field trips, since he first was stationed there in the 1990s.

Armed Societies ain't just polite, I've come to believe. They're friendly - because everyone armed is at a state of alert ease and mutual respect. I truly believe that state sets the stage for meaningful pleasant conversation.

Well - I'll shut up now. Gotta' get back to the States on a plane in a couple hours. Very glad things went well in Richmond. Sounds like the streets are probably cleaner, given the crowd that showed up. Good job, Virginians.

466 On the one hand, this is really funny. These people have become parodies of themselves. We should celebrate the fact that we have a society so prosperous that such asininity can be tolerated.

On a more serious note, I am not sure these people understand, and I'm quite certain that some in the woke set don't comprehend, that they exist ONLY because we tolerate them. For most of the Western world, it's been two generations now since there was any threat posed by the men with guns, and for most in the US, it's been a century and a half. So they forget that the men with guns exist. But exist we do, and these people should thank their lucky stars that we prefer peace and the rule of law to the alternative. Because in that alternative world, there isn't much room for this kind of silliness, or gender pronouns, or safe spaces.

The girls had it tough at my Catholic high school (63-67). The sisters would make them kneel and their skirts had to touch the ground or they got sent home.

Girls would pass inspection and then roll their waist area up an inch to show their knees. The funniest thing was when a girl would show up for school out of uniform with a note from a parent excusing them. The school would go along with it but the funny thing was, the clothing would always be WAY different from the blue skirt, white blouse uniform.

Boys couldn't wear pants with brads (jeans). We had it easy.

80's kid. Wranglers - they sold 'em at the Dollar Store back then. Tee shirt - but not a concert shirt, because you had to have the money to go to the show back then. Chuck Taylors if I had time to go home before work, or work boots if I didn't. Dollar Store flannel over the tee if it was cold.

Kinda' pissed me off when that turned into "the look" for grunge.

I wore dress pants, a dress shirt and tie my first day at my all-boys' Catholic HS. No one else did. I was mercilessly teased about my sartorial choices for the next four years, even though I never wore a tie again.

I wish I had my current "fuck you and die in a fire" attitude back then. Not that I would have been any happier, but I might have been more confident.

Taking a beating is super easy. All you have to do is survive. Does not matter if you were a mutual combatant or a surprise guest at your ass-beating, just survive. Now, how you deal with the aftermath is whether you are diminished as a man or not.
