This state senator is a Democrat who is pro gun-rights, although this is Vermont, which may be the nuttiest state in the union, so it's not surprising. Bill would ban cellphone use for those under 21The bill was introduced by Sen. John Rodgers, D-Essex-Orleans. Rodgers said Wednesday he introduced the bill to make a point. “I have no delusions that it’s going to pass. I wouldn’t probably vote for it myself,” he said. He said he’s a strong supporter of the Second Amendment and the Legislature “seems bent on taking away our Second Amendment rights.” He said, based on the information presented in the bill, a cellphone is much more dangerous than a gun.Read the article and you will see why Vermont is a bit odd. Gun rights are hugely important to many Vermonters, but then so is "establishing an office of child advocate." But the point stands. Extend Democrat demands to the point of absurdity. The classic and well-used example is the minimum wage. If $15 is good, then $50 must be great! Here's one: drowning is the most common cause of death among children one to four years of age. Obviously the only solution is to ban children from pools and lakes and the oceans until they are five years old! Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

What I find odd, when some of these Democrats point out how absurd their Party is, is the fact that they remain Democrats.
The nutjobs in their Party think Republicans are worse that Hilter, but many of these officeholders, in state offices and Congress, have to know their own leadership is exponentially more dangerous to their so-called values and positions. So why do they remain Democrats? Posted by: BurtTC at January 12, 2020 12:21 PM (hku12) Posted by: GnuBreed at January 12, 2020 12:21 PM (Z4rgH) 14

And since we're on this subject, as I'm sure this came up here during the week, when I was not around, I find it interesting that lots of people are criticizing Ricky Gervais.
The word is, he wasn't saying anything particularly incendiary, that he was doing it from a position of safety for him, as they weren't going to bring him back to host in the future anyway. And of course, Gervais keeps telling everyone he's a lefty liberal himself, so... What was so BOLD about what he did? I don't know from bold, but I bet the audience for that insipid awards show, the one Tim Cook was attending, a high percentage of them have NEVER HEARD that Apple employs slave labor to manufacture their devices. So perhaps Gervais wasn't talking to the assembled pompous assholes, and indeed was trying to speak to the audiences at home/on the internet. The ones who are never reached by the so-called mainstream media. Maybe if they hear things like Apple employs slaves, it'll sink in. Just a little. His point is that cell phones have been proven to be MOR dangerous, and when some one screams "That's absurd!" then he points back to the laws about actual weapons. This isn't real... he himself admits it... he's trying to make a point that gets lost b/c his political affiliation ends with a "D" and everyone on the right points and screams that he's a leftist loony toon. If I go back a hundred generations in my family tree I suppose I may find a duke or a king. I have twice as many grandparents as parents, so among the thousands of great^100 one of them is likely to be noble. The food he ate wasn't as good as what I eat. His entertainment and education was not nearly as good as mine.
So sitting in this particular place of luxury, above my parents who did not grow up with air conditioning, a drastic change in a very long line of not-easy living, I am unable to be indifferent. It is impossible even if I wanted to. I can either be grateful, or I can be spiteful and say to hell with it all. There is no avoiding the fork in the road. If I shoot off fireworks, I have broken the law in my area. If the cops cite me to court and I don't show up because I disagree with the law, they swear a warrant out for me. If I refuse to go willingly when they serve the warrant, the cops are free to shoot me, without trial. Prolly weight loss.
Studies conducted show that participants drinking two tbsp of ACV a day over 3 months lost an average of 3.7 pounds with other changes to diet. Researchers attribute it to increased blood flow and ACV may act as an appetite suppressant, IIRC. Posted by: Bitter Clinger at January 12, 2020 01:37 PM (3S5Yp) ...with other changes to diet. And given how political ALL science is becoming, that bias is going to be greater as we go forward, so that human ignorance will grow exponentially. Or look at it this way, if we could sum up all that is "known" and compare that to all that is not known, it would be the proverbial sand speck in the ocean. So even if what we're looking at is being studied and measured accurately, we're creating bias, simply by studying THAT particular thing, and not the millions and billions of other things we COULD be studying instead. Or looking at it from an infinite number of different angles. So yeah, Scientism is just as much a religion as all others. Posted by: BurtTC at January 12, 2020 01:58 PM (hku12) 234

Not true. Good researchers "lean into the wind," i.e., do their best to destroy their hypotheses, and exhibit reluctance to accept them, requiring powerful evidence before they do so. If your hypothesis can be destroyed, it SHOULD be destroyed. Shitty researchers - and here I include all social "science" types, and most biomedical researchers - look to validate their hypotheses, not crush them. This is because they are poorly trained in research, if they are trained at all, and therefore fall prey to the natural human tendency to believe one's own bullshit. Shitty researchers - and here I include all social "science" types, and most biomedical researchers - look to validate their hypotheses, not crush them. This is because they are poorly trained in research, if they are trained at all, and therefore fall prey to the natural human tendency to believe one's own bullshit. Beating that out of graduate students, and making them skeptical and analytical, is the essence of graduate school. OT-So it was a great day until we left church to go out to lunch. Our son was a few cars ahead of us in his/our car. Some lady was driving erratically weaving out of traffic from a way back even crossing onto the left hand side of the road (I didn't see that) but ahead of us I see son's car. Lady with little girl in back drove into this left back side-side pushing into wheel.( It's not drivable and had to be towed) drove someone else into the embankment and their car is not driveable. Then she drove someone else off the road and they got a flat. Son had left his license at home, although the registration and the insurance were in the glove compartment The cop didn't give him a ticket for not having his license, but the crazy driver got three. So now I have to either let him use my car to go to school which starts the 21st or take him myself.

So, lessee ... did they establish a dose-response curve? Why apple cider vinegar? Why not a dilute solution of pure acetic acid? (To determine if the effect, if any, of the vinegar was due to something besides the acetic acid.) What about other vinegars? What was the placebo drink? (Pretty hard to disguise the taste of vinegar.) What about real-time monitoring of their vital signs? And most importantly, what was their hypothesis regarding the mechanism of action?
