That is a good song you quoted. I like the Kristoferson version. As for fasting, it simply has not worked for me. I understand that if you do it long enough it pretty much has to work, but it is no magic pill. There are so many factors such as your health, activity, etc.

Most who served were in their best shape in the military. And in the military, you did not fast. Of course you did not graze either. You ate quickly and moved on. If fasting works for some I say good on ya. But I have tried it and it has not worked.

Posted by: Common Tater at January 05, 2020 06:37 AM (KCUTM)

that is impressive sir. I dropped about 15 pounds and have kept it off for a couple years. I think it was mainly just caring a bit more about what I ate. I have done the 8 hour window fasting and it has not helped very much. To me, if you think you are on some type of diet, you are doomed to fail. It has to be changes that stick.

But we used to make fun of those who said they had a glandular or thyroid problem. We thought those who could not lose weight lacked the will to do it. In many cases, we were wrong.

As many Americans swear off bread, potatoes, pasta, and rice, the countries that eat those as staples are still thinner than we are. I think for many the real problem is right before their nose. That could be booze, a sedentary lifestyle, or a health issue. I dont' think there are easy answers when you get older. But for anyone who has lost 40 pounds, there is no denying something worked.

Posted by: Quint at January 05, 2020 06:46 AM (n13/j)

49 So a lot of medical insurance plans ask if you are a tobacco user. Hell, Obamacare asks if you use tobacco. Many companies charge more for self reporting "tobacco users". That could be cigars, dip, or nasal snuff.

Now, if you are a full blown drunk who smokes crack, no worries there.

54 I'm just frustrated at the pace. Losing .3 of a pound a week is just excruciating, so when I cut back to a faster rate of loss, at some point I wig out and pig out. 1000-1200 daily intake is considered "slower" rate of weight loss, 600-800 is called "faster." That is not much food, what I used to consider an afternoon snack, to tide me over till more serious food could be prepared.

Yeah it's a lifestyle change for sure.

Iranian ISPs' average speeds are not high enough to stream video.

Iranians make about $200 per month. Netflix charges $10 per month.

I wonder how many phantom cutout service subscriptions it takes for the mullahs to launder enough of that pallets-of-cash money back into Obama's pockets via his lucrative production gig with Netflix.

Netflix is publicly traded. This can be investigated since Sarbanes-Oxley puts anyone signing fraudulent statements personally on the hook for fraud.

I got an earful on this subject over the New Year holiday from a kid claiming he wants to become a "sustainable farmer" and anti-Monsanto. First off, that requires you to become a farmer I responded, and you've never worked that hard in your life (summer job raising craft beer hops doesn't count) and second that requires abandoning modern pesticides and fertilizers, meaning you are signing up for the super back-breaking work of a hundred years ago style farming. May as well load up the Model A right now and go look for a dust bowl too.

In 2015 Israel was following Soleimani and had a plan in place to kill him. The Obama a-holes called Iran and WARNED them that Israel was about to hit Soleimani, and he got away.

121 Happy Sunday Horde!

In my readings this morning, I ran across Psalm 117. Methinks it applies bigly to our beloved President:

Out of my distress I called on the Lord;
the Lord answered me and set me free.
6 With the Lord on my side I do not fear.
What can man do to me?
7 The Lord is on my side to help me;
I shall look in triumph on those who hate me.
8 It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to put confidence in man.
9 It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to put confidence in princes.

10 All nations surrounded me;
in the name of the Lord I cut them off!
11 They surrounded me, surrounded me on every side;
in the name of the Lord I cut them off!
12 They surrounded me like bees,
they blazed like a fire of thorns;
in the name of the Lord I cut them off!
13 I was pushed hard, so that I was falling,
but the Lord helped me.
14 The Lord is my strength and my song;
he has become my salvation.

204 There were a lot of complaints about this last dollar store being built near here. The neighboring residents were concerned about the increase in traffic and crime. I can't blame them. The dollar stores get robbed all the time, and the customers blasting their garbage noise from their cars with huge wheels and speakers worth more than the car was new have a tendency to throw their trash down wherever they happen to be at the time and get into fights in the parking lot. I wouldn't want that next door either.

Rashid Tlaib held a protest yesterday in Detroit. I found it interesting because she usually joins forces with Debbie Dingle. But yesterday it was just Rashid. I think it's because both Dingle and Talib represent heavily Arab constituents, but Dingles constituents are not rebelling or complaining. The constituents iTalib represents are not complaining either, so she brought in professional protesters. I think this signifies Dingle is smarter.

279 235 I hate nagging appliances. My new microwave beeps at me incessantly until I get that rewarmed coffee.
______________

I used to have a dog that loved popcorn. Really loved it. I'd put a bag in the microwave, and if I didn't get it out the moment the microwave beeped, the dog would get mad. She'd run to me and bark at me in a hectoring tone until I went and got the bag out.

So not only did the appliances nag me, the dog did too. I had nagging in stereo.

284 Trump's timing on Iran is perfect. I don't think he tries to do this in a cunning, political way, it is just who he is and how this aligns with an American sensibility. People are sick and fucking fed up with terrorism. Trump is saying, simply, enough is enough; it doesn't have to be this way. And of course as a contrast we are able to see the stupid gyrations of appeasement we went through with Obama.

Right? Like Susan thinks we'd believe that they would have. They were too focused on the "deal" to dare risk it by doing anything to upset Iran. The fact that they didn't even bother to use the deal negotiations as leverage to get Americans released as a precondition to the negotiations says it all: the deal was important than saving American lives, either directly (release prisoners in Iran) or indirectly (taking out Soleimani).

They were *also* willing to include in their precious deal the terms that America was required to protect Iran from any aggressive act for another country (such as Israel). That says it all, too, doesn't it about how much they were willing to NOT take out Soleimani or do even the smallest thing to push back on Iran's terror-sowing throughout the ME.
