Is Comey Setting The Stage For A Legal Defense?

Comey admits 'I was wrong' on FISA conduct, remains defiant on dossier in tense interview

Former FBI Director James Comey admitted on "Fox News Sunday" that the recently released Justice Department Inspector General's report on the launch of the FBI's Russia investigation and their use of the surveillance process showed that he was "overconfident" when he defended his former agency's use of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA).

"He's right, I was wrong," Comey said about how the FBI used the FISA process, adding, "I was overconfident as director in our procedures," and that what happened "was not acceptable."

Comey says "my recollection" every 2 seconds. Who talks like this, except for Tony Soprano after consulting his lawyer? Every time Comey uses the phrase, it shows he's sweating, in deep legal jeopardy. Not deep enough, of course, but still.

Pretty much anyone, after consulting his lawyer.

Saying flat-out "I did this" or "that thing happened" can get you charged with perjury, but you can't be charged for having a faulty memory (nor is there any way to prove that your memory isn't faulty).

Fact is, it wasn't, which implies that the actual surveillance target was somebody other than Page. "I wonder who might that be," a curious journalist might inquire.

Spoiler Alert - part of the trick to rising in any bureaucracy is
avoiding responsibility. One Oh Shit cancels ten Atta' Boys. That is,
truly, how shit works.

Say it with me - a Bureaucracy is not a Meritocracy. Say it.

To understand this is to understand why things work the way they work, and why they always work out this way - and, I'll add, why the way is always shitty.

Understand this.

111 Donald Trump's superpower is that he is presiding over the best economy in at least the last fifty years, while job prospects for "journalists" are as bad as in the Great Depression.

The latest shoe to drop is that Bloomberg Media just took over a website called CityLab from the Atlantic, and laid off all the staff.

CityLab is devoted to explaining how cars are evil, and why everyone should be forced to live in a 500 square foot apartment in a high-rise building next to a mass transit stop.

Kriston Capps, one of the laid-off staffers, is of course whining on Twitter about how Unfair this all is. Kriston's last article in City Lab was about how wonderful is would be to provide tenants facing eviction with "free" legal help (no discussion of what this would do to rents or to screening of prospective tenants), but he also concentrates on the Big Things, like in an article that starts;

It's time to crack down on single-use plastic drinking utensils, the world's most disposable product

Best of luck on the job search, Kriston.

I'd tell you to learn to code, but the joke is that people like you became journalists because you were incapable of learning how to code.

They needed a premise, no matter how flimsy, to spy on the Trump campaign and, hopefully, find something they could use to sabotage the campaign.

Since that didn't work, they used the dossier as the means to cripple the Trump presidency.

Unfortunately for them, and fortunately, for us, they're so arrogant and stupid, they thought putting this over would be a piece of cake.

The Deep State seriously underestimated President Trump and seriously overestimated their own abilities.

188 It was insufferable here until Horowitz testified, and even when he
testified then the Eeyores were out in full force. It was as if no one
here read the report and relied on the "press."

Then let me clear that up.

The "Eeyores" understand something, even if they don't articulate it and may not even fully understand it. There is no such thing as 400 pages of facts. Not when lawyers are involved. Everything can be parsed, obfuscated, debated, confused, and ultimately distorted. 400 pages of anything other than pure math are up for debate - and subject to the results of the prevailing narrative.

The shorter portion of that report, the summary, was extremely helpful for the Comeys and other coup members. And in any 400 page report, the summary is more important than the total body of work. Don't like that - don't think it's fair ? Tough shit - it's how the world has always worked and always will.

Maybe Barr is able to make chicken-salad out of those 400 pages of chicken-shit - maybe he's even willing. But it was still a fuck-up by Horowitz that will have to be salvaged at best. Don't bother me with shit like "but his scope". Put Holder in that situation and see what happens.

Maybe Stone can write a book from prison ... the Apostle Paul did that ... was a best seller. Manafort was guilty of some things for sure ... but they tortured him in solitary, kept bringing him back to see if he would testify against Trump and tell their scripted lie. I guess he never did that, so off with his head.

Well, I used to be in the "FISA judges were in on it" camp, but after the IG report, I'm not so sure. The FBI/DOJ appears to genuinely have thought there was a chance that the authorization for domestic surveillance wouldn't be issued, because they wouldn't have gone through all the trouble to create a fake paper trail and even alter the CIA's email if they knew the fix was in and they were just putting together a CYA file-stuffer.

Maybe it goes into one of history's curiosities, like why the Polish Communist government never expropriated anyone's real property (except for in Warsaw, which was too badly damaged to identify where the prewar property lines were), or why the Soviet Union felt the need to go through the motions of holding elections, having a legislature, enacting the Communist platform into law, etc., when the Politburo could have just ruled by decree. My personal favorite is Jim Crow laws. If everyone were racist, no laws would be necessary. The real target of Jim Crow had to be whites who weren't sufficiently racist.

Yes Jack, I read it. Get this - people can see what's going on here, and come to a perfectly logical and reasonable conclusion different than yours. Yes Jack - everything we suspected was written down in a report. Yet, the money shot from Hero Horowitz was "Nothing to see, move along".

That's your Achilles Heal. You're not alone in it. You have an extremely inflexible view of how events can unfold, and an even less imaginative understanding of the motivations of others.

For all your surety - there are a virtual army of lawyers pulling apart that report, right now. And an equal number of advocates spinning the public perception of it - which is ultimately money better spent. 400 pages of anything is fertile ground. A summary like Horowitz put out was a gift.

Jack - if public perception is spun to "this doesn't matter" - no fucking judge is ever going to bang that gavel and send a single damn one of them to jail. This isn't an episode of Perry Mason where everyone gasps at the verdict and the big-dog in town goes down.

I can't get past the failure to call to account those who perpetrated the fraud. Also, Contreas from memory was close to Strzok. There also were reports hearings weren't even held. That last may have been debunked but I missed it. At best the FISA courts were grossly negligent, but I think it was worse than that, but good point about the fake paper trail.

No, that's wrong, Scogg.

You should have listened to the interview Bill Barr did with the WSJ where he explained the purpose of the IG, the limitations and what he actually reported.

People continue to misstate what Horowitz actually said. He demonstrated and stated that there were multiple biased actions throughout the process but what he did not find was documentary or testimonial evidence that led to specific actions. In other words he didn't find a smoking gun document nor did anyone confess. How shocking.

Barr gets it. Durham gets. And Horowitz gets it or he wouldn't have referred his entire report to Durham.

246 FIBs (including Comey) use the contrived "Procedures" to cover up their crimes. Such as protecting Hillary's criminal activities, and fabricating evidence against Trump as an insurance policy.

It just so happened their fake evidence on Trump was pretty much exactly what they did ... conspiring with DNC/Fusion/Ukraine/Russia to "interfere inn our elections". They knew all along they were doing it, and they knew Trump was innocent. The spying was to help them better frame Trump. (like fabricating the story around Cohen in Prague, or wherever ... but their spying failed and they got the wrong Cohen, it seems)

They didn't need to spy on Hillary, they knew she was guilty and were her fixers (Comey/Mueller had been that for a long time). They didn't need to give Trump a defensive briefing on Page ... they knew he was an agent for the CIA, but they lied about it. Their procedures are to cover themselves, to to protect the public. So Whitaker claims procedures were followed ... but one guy lied, or maybe it was 21 guys lied, who is counting?

He's already admitted it in his own inimitable fashion.

He gave an interview a while ago where he stated that normally if he wanted to do a formal interview of WH personnel he would work through the WH counsel and proper channels. But since the Trump administration was new and somewhat in chaos during those early days he just had them call Flynn directly and make it appear to be an informal talk.

He set Flynn up in the meeting with Strzok and Pientka that led to him being charged with lying to the FBI.

Where is this German restaurant you speak of? It might be within driving distance of us in Dixon.

As for appetizers Jules makes these great cheese puffs. Recipe came from her grandmother who took a course and appetizers with Mrs Pope in Chicago. You mix shredded cheese, chopped green onion, bacon crumbles, a bit of mayo and a beaten egg. Put on White Bread rounds you've cut out and broil briefly. These are delish family favorite at the holidays.

But with his other hand, he had his fingers crossed behind his back.

So all is good!

That's the way it worked in first grade, anyway.

334 Dildo Hunter Biden was in business with James "Whitey's Nephew" Bulger. Whitey - an informant for the corrupt FBI was beaten to death in prison just over a year ago. There is a media blackout on the fact that Dildo Hunter Biden was in business with a mobster son/courrupt senator's nephew along with Secretary of State John Kerry's stepson.

Impeachment is SQUIRREL!

And providing"Guidance" on their application was one of the three duties of the IG, Michael Horowitz

The other two are Oversight and Integrity.

Horowitz goes oh for three.

339 I love how he's trying to blame the "system " when he is in charge.
So his defense is" Oh, I'm lazy".
The hammer of justice can't hit this guy hard enough.
And don't think he wasn't under orders. Guys like this never act without orders.

344 295 Here's where I'm skeptical about Jack Straw, who seems to have been right about everything so far. The judges were innocent?
Someone, no matter their bona fides, wanted to surveil the opposing party presidential campaign and you assumed everything was on the up and up?
And the story was the Russian hookers?
They were in it up to their eyeballs, which is why we haven't seen any of them say a word. Or Roberts, who should be very upset.
