At that point, no actions, no matter how drastic or ruthless, are off the table. Confronting and shaming people in public. Chasing the families of suspected conservatives out of restaurants. Scaring the families of prominent conservatives. Arresting elderly nobodies like Roger Stone in SWAT raids in the middle of the night, with CNN along to broadcast it worldwide. It seems vicious, but hey, we're trying to save the world here, so it's ok. Really. Are you with us, or against us? Are you evil, or nice? These people are dangerous. So when I hear Nancy Pelosi say, "Civilization as we know it today is at stake in the next election, and certainly, our planet," I don't laugh. When I hear Greta Thunberg say, "For way too long, the politicians and the people in power have gotten away with not doing anything to fight the climate crisis, but we will make sure that they will not get away with it any longer," I don't just roll my eyes. When I hear AOC say, "There's no debate as to whether we should continue producing fossil fuels. There's no debate," I don't wonder what she's been smoking. These people are dangerous. They make ruthlessness seem reasonable.This is one of those essays you might like to pass around. Who wants public funding of the left's everyday extremism? Or of alt-right extremism? Music

It's a miracle how sometimes the people rise up and make a choice that goes against the massive efforts of the oppressors, like Trump and Boris. I have no doubt though, all we're doing is showing them where the weaknesses of their systems are, so they'll fix them before the next round.

The Vote was so Sacred that only white male property owners could vote since they had skin in the game.
That is, they had to pay a poll tax prior to casting their ballot; paid the price for making a bad vote, from higher taxes, to greater regulations on their own property, to even conscription to fight wars their representatives started.
It was still considered sacred when it required the 15th Amendment to allow non-white males to vote. A half century later women were awarded the franchise - so now a woman could contradict the head of household, and so it began cheapening the vote, removing its sacredness to a representative government.
They further profaned elections by dropping any sort of pretense to having skin in the game through the adoption of the 24th amendment. You could now vote as a welfare client so that you could literally auction off your vote for personal access to the public treasury.
Then they said, lets have children vote and behold ! the 26th amendment.
Now they let the dead, the foreigner, pets and cartoon characters vote. I still receive voter registration cards for a parent who has been dead for over thirty years and for an address and city I left twenty five years ago.
And it won't be long before voting is performed through statistical sampling, demographic analysis, diversity weighting and polls. We have already seen advances in this complete deconstruction and vandalism against the Sacred Vote by their rejection of the Electoral System, by declaring exit-polls as Truth, and by manufacturing votes, provisional and mail-in ballots, rejection of military votes, and by their constant campaign to convince the public that voting doesn't matter and that it is all corrupt and unreliable because of Russian or other interference.
Google and Facebook are less than a decade away from deciding all of our elections.

Portland just inaugurated a new public financing campaign system, where a candidate gets seven dollars of taxpayer money for every dollar you raise, up to a $250 contribution per person, after you have met certain requirements for number of contributions, and after you agree to limit contributions to $250.
A rabidly pro-Antifa, cop-hating, car-hating candidate is running for mayor of Portland under this system, so 85% of her campaign funding is coming from taxpayers. She'll probably collect more than a quarter-million in taxpayer funds by the election, and given that it's Portland, she may well win.
This strikes me as wildly unconstitutional - Portland taxpayers are compelled to subsidize this woman's political speech, whether they agree with it or not.
It's one thing to direct a small portion of your tax bill to a political party, and it is quite another thing to get far more money than you actually raised in taxpayer funds.

Now that people are dropping out like flies before the first Primary vote is cast, it obvious the democrats are going to have a brokered convention with three or four candidates staying in until the end.
None of them are anywhere close to the 40% required to force the super delegates to vote for them in the first round so hillary can jump right in.

It's effective. It neuters the "normals" right off the bat. Those people refuse to think in extremes or that extremes could ever become true. An extreme message turns them off - and renders them non-entities on the playing field.
The strategy - I'm sure of it - is to give them a little space to all get together and tut-tut the silliness of it all, while those willing to fight over the issue settle it out. Depending upon who wins, the tut-tut crowd either gets to keep their little space in a magnanimous gesture of mercy - or they get eaten last.

I took a flight yesterday and the video presentation of the safety spiel (you know, the part where they tell you about seat belts, oxygen masks, and exit doors - somewhat important stuff that you are technically legally required to listen to) was interspersed around a commercial for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
WTF? Is this a valid safety presentation? Would a first time flyer get the proper information from what seemed like a three minute commercial. They know this, notice they have only pushed this daft notion through in States where they figure they would lose a Winner Takes All most of the time. If they really believed in it as a basic principle they would demonstrate this by implementing it in a State they absolutely control. Does NY, CA, IL, NJ, MD, WA, OR, etc. do this? Nope. Only swing states.

so i carried really fark blue ski gloves in the velcro patch pockets of gy gortex, the ones right next to the zipper.
and, if it got really cold i has a set of polypropylene gloves, and a thinsulite pair to put on before the gloves.
as a SP-4, they didn't pay me enough to be miserable.

Anybody that moves from a modestly paid government job to an exorbitantly paid private sector job gets a higher percent tax on the difference of the salary increase. Proportional voting for a legislature means those you get in are selected not by a district, but by the party. As long as they run the party they can never be voted out.
Prop voting for EC means that the power of winner take all to magnify a mandate is diluted.
In Australia, where they have the multi-voting crap, the minor fanatic parties sell their voters second choice to the larger parties as part of doing business. Parties should only be dealing with each other after elections, not before.
A winner take all system forces the voter to make difficult choices. It forces parties to embrace new ideas but incorporate them into a more practical framework in order to keep favor from all factions.
In the EU parliament, Verhoffstat ran with a party that was so badly thrashed that only three electors were chosen by it. Rather than sidelining him, he was assigned to one of the fake parties set up by the EU, chosen its leader, and was picked to run the entire Brexit negotiation. He has no need to care about the people of Belgium, as long as his party gets enough votes for a single elector, he is there forever.

I think is a strategic and excellent move.
The guy has been accepted by his district already, and is probably good and knowing his constituents. He knows if it makes sense to change parties. In these middle of the road districts, a super conservative would never get elected anyway.
And also, doing this publicly puts the idea into the discussion for other moderate Democrats in similar positions. Trump is planting this seed into their minds with election season coming up soon.
