This one was way easier than I thought it was originally, so it's probably closer to beginner than intermediate:

1...Qxb2+
2.Kxb2 Nc4+
3.Kb1

or 3. Kc2 Na3#

3... Na3# 0-1

Advanced Problem - Black To Play

1...Bg2+

Bet you all aaw this one.

2.Kg1 Be4+!

This is the non-obvious move. Why move the bishop here and not, say f3? Well, because of the move that's coming next.

3.Kf1 Bf5
4.Qe2

This is the only way e1 can be made a flight square for the hing. Because there's no way to stop the check at h3. Not that this will help.

At Masters level it becomes Krav Maga Chess. One round of knees to the groin, throat strikes, eye gouges and dislocated joints, then play a few moves.

I stumbled on a YT video series by a woman who makes period clothes who did some research on waist sizes. She found 24, 25 inch waists were the norm in the 18th and 19th century more or less like now.

They also did "photoshop" pictures for magazines and papers then like they do now for stars. It was just harder.

242 I've been doing genealogy research over the past few years. My paternal grandfather was a Highlander Scot from Nova Scotia.

It was really amazing to see these Catholic (primarily farming) families in the 18th and 19th centuries: a child every two years until the mother died or hit her early 40's -- like clockwork.

I suspect they wanted to give the mother time to recuperate (instead of having children annually and being almost always pregnant). I've wondered if it might also have had something to do with not having multiple toddlers around and maybe something to do with breast-feeding.

A modern-day example is the Spencer family. Diana's brother is Earl Spencer and maintains the family estate, which will be handed down to his eldest son when he dies. Although in the UK in the past decades the estate is often a financial burden so a number of them are in the hands of the National Trust while the families keep the title going.

317 Good day's work today. Put on the Helly Hansen insulated coveralls, and fired up the snowblower, and cleared the driveway, and the dooryard to the shop, and some walking paths. Put the snowblower away, and got my shop vac, set the hose on the blower vent, and blew 4 inches of snow off the poor wretched Panhard stranded in the yard. Rigged a lawnmower fuel tank to gravity feed into the carb, and hung a battery in the tray. With some priming and cranking, it eventually fired up, and ran well enough to move itself. Got behind the wheel, and drove it into the shop and back onto the hoist, taking several gos to do it. The starter was screeching; I think the starter drive is jammed in the flywheel. I will have to deal with that. It is right on top of the engine, so there's that.

Panhard back in its safe place, I took my trash to the dump, and filled up the Suburban, and my fuel can for the snowblower.

Bathrobe, right? No kidding, I have a white terrycloth robe from IKEA that I got for maybe $25 a few years ago. It weighs about thirty pounds and it's really thick and soft. Highly recommend.

If you're looking for saffron robes, I'm not going to be much help.

Army surplus store, Korean officer's greatcoat, maybe? I got a South Korean MP jacket one time. It was great. Soft cotton, but heavily padded, and very warm. You could wad it up into a ball, and shake it back out. Totally quiet, nice big pockets, but the zipper failed on it.

Actually, the engine is no slouch. To get 50 HP from 850 cc's of 2-cylinder engine is no mean feat, for that era. That's just shy of the magic 1HP per cubic inch level.

A proposal I made, back when the emissions control BS was just firing up, was that there should be an exempt engine class and proposed that any 1L or less IC engine would be totally exempt from all emission control requirements.
I thought it would lead to all sort of innovative designs implementations, and with only 1L to play with, how much pollution could you possibly emit?

Hmm. I don't think motorcycles are checked for emissions. None of mine ever have been. OTOH, I know that certain have been fitted with catalytic converters.

Somehow, the thought of reverting to Fiat 850's doesn't seem very interesting.

Personally, I understand that point of view and I firmly believe 5.7L is the minimum acceptable engine displacement, but look at the market for small cars (for example the Prius) for commuter cars and local travel.
