I just got out of a nearly 2 hour briefing on the IG report.

It is deeply disturbing. Some former FBI and DOJ officials are about to have some serious explaining to do.

The Daily Caller sets the table for what the report will talk about.

At the heart of the probe is whether the FBI misled the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC) regarding information from Christopher Steele, a former British spy who worked in 2016 for the DNC and Clinton campaign.
The FBI relied on information from Steele to assert there was probable cause to believe Carter Page was a working as an agent of Russia. Michael Horowitz, the Justice Department’s highly respected inspector general, opened an investigation March 28, 2018, that initially focused on how the FBI handled Steele’s information, and whether investigators disclosed everything they knew about the dossier to the FISC.
Horowitz since expanded the investigation to look at whether the FBI had a sound basis to open investigations into four Trump campaign associates in late July 2016. The watchdog also investigated whether the FBI properly handled confidential sources used in the probe.
That part of the report will likely focus on at least two FBI informants: Steele and Stefan Halper, a former Cambridge professor whom the FBI tasked to connect with Carter Page and Trump aide George Papadopoulos.

The report is also likely to include an assessment of whether FBI officials were biased against Trump during the Russia probe. During an investigation into FBI activities during the Hillary Clinton email investigation, Horowitz’s team discovered anti-Trump text messages that FBI counterintelligence official Peter Strzok exchanged with FBI lawyer Lisa Page.

Can confirm NYT report (https://t.co/wTO9MJWVkK) that Barr made a last minute declassification of details about Steele that will be in IG report. Steele was told about this yesterday and was not given a chance to review the new information, which as NYT notes is highly unusual.

Steele was interviewed extensively by the IG’s office this year and handed over documents. As is standard, he was able to review the portions of the report that mention him. So it’s unclear why he’s been prevented from reviewing/being briefed on the newly declassified info.

No. If he had released it after the fake transcript was read into record, the Dems would have said the real transcript was fake. By releasing it so quickly, he set the narrative.

Also, they tipped their hand as to what they were attempting when they screamed that putting the transcript in a secure server was conspiracy (or some such). Their plan was to edit the transcript but Trump released it before they could access it to edit it.

I don't think the FISA court is empowered to take any actions. It reviews petitions and issues FISA warrants for, well, everything that is asked of it.

(I heard someone on FNC this morning say "well they're used to being able to trust the FBI so they naturally assumed it wasn't bullshit", or words to that effect).

The fruit of the poison tree doctrine should apply in other venues, though.

Combine this with the fact that Horowitz doesn't prosecute anyone and the report (later denied by Barr's office) that Barr doesn't agree with some of the conclusions of this report, and there's definitely room for continued optimism.

But yeah, it's stretched pretty thin at this point.

I watched a Smithsonian Channel show about the Salem witch trials.

I never knew that the hangings weren't designed to mercifully break the poor victims' necks. They were hanged to they slowly strangled and convulsed. Each victim had to watch the previous victim's horrible death.
As gruesome as that was, perhaps it's time to bring back that punishment, in the case of the IG criminals. And televise it.

Unless there was an exception carved out for FISA, and to my knowledge it was not, any judge or magistrate who was misled via perjury and/or fraud can subject the offending party to criminal contempt proceedings.
