Eating
More
Thanksgiving

What happens when they say they are coming, but then bail at the last minute.

Their loss... smoked bird & venison was (and still is) awesome.

I vacuum sealed and froze most of it actually.

Unfortunately, the sheet-pan pumpkin pie my wife made just isn't the sort of thing you freeze, so I am forced to continue to eat until it is all gone.

Still, I persevere.

2 Good Morning Morons; today is Saturday, November 30, 2019. On this day in 1804 the Senate began the impeachment trial of Samuel Chase. His rulings were all based on political crap just like the liberal wing we have now. He was was acquitted on all counts.

Love the story on the Newsweek Twitter nitwit that reported Trump spent TG golfing and tweeting, while he was actually off working the chow line for our troops.

To the soldiers he was serving "When our enemies hear the sound of your jets... their terrorist blood runs cold because they know their demise is near."

Love the President.

Maryland has recently chosen to adopt the recommendations of the Kerwin Commission, which set a goal of jumping from the middle of School standings in the United States to being number one on the entire fcuking planet.

Cost is over 4 BILLION dollars just to get this turkey off the ground.

One of the revenue streams is the intended legalizing and taxing of recreational marijuana.

I asked one of our State Senators at a public forum if Maryland was considering legalizing any other vices to raise money for the children.

Avoiding carbs speeds up weight loss, even if restricting calories. I was surprised how little food is required. Carbs aren't called "empty calories" for nothing. A handful of potato chips is equal to 4 eggs. And guess what costs more?

I read that, and thought it was stupid. A lot of Americans, including many southerners like myself, don't think Lincoln was a particularly great president. Trump, on the other hand, has been a stalwart defender of the U.S. constitution, and has earned my support. If that makes me a "cult" member in Mirengoff's eyes, that says more about Mirengoff than it does about Trump supporters.

226 The problem with never-Trumpers like Mirengoff is that they're incapable of understanding how people think. Most people that support Trump are going to say Trump not because they believe it or even thought about it, they're going to say Trump because, fuck you.

It's way too soon to make a "reasoned argument" that Trump is "better" than Lincoln for the simple reason that Trump is still in office and that's the kind of judgement that can't be made until AFTER the person has left office AND some time has passed to see the ultimate consequences of his policies.

That said, it is useful to remember that Lincoln was a hugely controversial president in his time and that he did not become the iconic, (almost) universally venerated figure we know today until the early 20th century -- after a lot of the people who had actually lived through the Civil War were dead.

NeverTrumpers and leftists have been trying to degrade Trump supporters since day 1 by calling them stupid or cult like. They will use almost any "evidence" to support their smears.

250 Also, re the Trump vs. Lincoln argument: at the same point in Lincoln's presidency -- 3 years into his first term -- he was not exactly a resounding success. The war had dragged on longer than most expected, and Lincoln was genuinely worried that he would lose the 1864 election. Nor had he acheived the goal of eliminating slavery; the Emancipation Proclamation only applied to areas not under Union control so slaves in border states and Union occupied areas were still slaves (Lincoln didn't want to alienate Union supporting slave owners or lose the border states).

253 The ignorant press and educrat industry like to pretend that slavery only existed in the USA and that Lincoln needs to be lauded entirely on that.
_______________

Except that Lincoln, who believed that blacks were naturally inferior to whites, would be considered hopelessly raaaaaaacist by today's standards.

And Lincoln also supported the idea of getting blacks out of the U.S. by shipping them off to places like Liberia (and Haiti and Panama and other locations). This enraged people like abolitionist Frederick Douglass, who said Lincoln was acting like an "itinerant colonization preacher" and being "ridiculous" in suggesting that U.S.-born blacks did not belong in the country of their birth.

The idea that Lincoln was some infallible, angelic being whom every sane person must agree was the greatest president ever is just illiterate, a-historical bunk.

Lincoln did a lot of shit he had no right to do. For example, when he suspended habeas corpus in Maryland, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court (Roger Taney) ruled that Lincoln had violated the constitution, since only congress had the right to suspend habeas corpus. Lincoln simply ignored the ruling, and later tried to justify his decision to ignore the constitutional limits on his power by arguing that he had to violate the constitution to save the constitution, and that he had the right to change the law before congress did, if he believed that congress would eventually change it. Can you imagine the mess we'd be in today if other presidents had adopted the same attitude?

Many of Lincoln's flaws and mistakes and over-reaching have been air-brushed out of his history, because he was successful in his goal of keeping the union together, and also because he was assassinated. But he was not a perfect president by any measure, and it is foolish and dangerous to pretend that he was.
