Is Trump's Presidency More "Exhausting" Than Reagan's Presidency? [BUCK THROCKMORTON]

A recent meme among allegedly conservative pundits is that they are *exhausted* from covering the Trump presidency. With a heavy heart, they state that the exhausting nature of Trump’s presidency is not sustainable, and therefore something must change. Ace’s readers know that these are the same police-the-right quislings who crave guest appearances on cable news shows, and who spend all day on Twitter flirting with the left-wing journalists at ABCNNBCBS. All the same, the issue of “Trump exhaustion among the right” has received lots of media play. So let’s try to recall if there was ever another Republican President whose tenure was “exhausting”.

The first president I ever voted for was Ronald Reagan. By the end of his presidency I was *exhausted*. Although I never stopped supporting him, I was worn out from the endless “scandals” the media breathlessly reported on every day. It wasn’t just Iran-Contra. The media reported incessantly on the “homeless crisis” that was a direct result of Reagan’s cruel domestic policies. Not only did Reagan not care about the homeless, but homelessness somehow made the rich even richer. The media told me this. And I was exhausted.

Remember Bitburg? By offering remembrance to fallen German WWII conscripts, Reagan set off a media firestorm, without which the media would have politely returned to reporting on Reagan’s foreign policy goals. And what was Reagan’s chief foreign policy goal? Via the arms race he sought to blow the world up in a nuclear war. The media told me this. And I was exhausted.

Remember when Nancy Reagan replaced the existing White House china with expensive new china paid for entirely by private contributions, at no cost to the taxpayers? I don’t recall why, but this was an outrage. There was a media firestorm. Everyone was outraged. All the polite conservatives told me that this kind of outrageous behavior is what kept the media from reporting on Democrat scandals and misbehavior instead. And I was exhausted.

And it never stopped, whether it was “ketchup is a vegetable” or “trees cause pollution”, the outrages never stopped. The media repeatedly told me that Reagan was just like Nixon and Hitler, only much worse. They were exhausted. Everyone was exhausted. I was so exhausted that I happily cast my vote in 1988 for George HW Bush, ready for the media to calm down, and knowing that I’d no longer be exhausted in the era of GHW Bush’s kinder and gentler conservatism.

Guess what. Both Bush presidencies were exhausting. The media’s outrage machinery never stops when a Republican is in the White House. In the fashion they attacked Reagan and both Bushes, the media also attacks Trump, but they have never before encountered a Republican President who fights back and treats them with the contempt they deserve.

And to those “conservative” pundits who are exhausted. Quit your job. Learn to code. Do something else that isn’t as exhausting as reading Tweets from your Beltway idols. Real Americans sweating in real jobs don’t need you whimpering that it’s time for us to surrender in this war that we are winning.

Is it exhausing? Well, the cuck rightwing media is purely reactive in responding to whatever bullshit CNN churns out, so maybe it is.

Maybe if you, like the right in the 80's, are embarassed of the GOP president, then it's hard. so hard. But for most of us, we're excited to have a POTUS who supports us and our values.

During the Reagan years I did feel more anxious. I actually felt at the time that some of the opposition to him was based on principles, that we would have to live together even if we didn't disagree.

Now the blinders have come off. I know that the Democrats don't have this country's interests at heart, that they hate Americans for what they are, that they hate this country for the principles that it was founded on, that they hate Western Civilization, that all they care about is power and wielding it.

It may surprise some people that the military is composed of a broad cross-section of American society - all kinds of people are in the military. There are very few things these people have in common
- some interest in the military
- getting a paycheck
- tolerance for a virtual caste authoritarian society which they chose to live.

People should expect to hear from some vets and long term current members that they are OK with all kinds of things that would mortify those former subjects of the soviet block. Just last week I had a retired AF enlisted guy I work with tell me that the President should not be tampering with 'nonjudicial punishment. All I could say at the time was that the Admiral that does not understand who the CiC is and what "pardon' means should have the book thrown at him. This was enough to shut down the discussion, but I really wanted to know how the hell he got to the military being independent of the/this President....

The real Kill Shot was to be, "No problem Bro, I get it, Party Above all Else. No reason to be ashamed, most real fascists wear it on their sleeve, very stylish sleeves."

It's staggering to realize how well Trump has done at every level of government. People complaining that "oh his picks have all been awful" are usually cucks or cuck-curious, simply because his trade team has been goddamn phenomenal. His military team has had to fix the Obama errors without provoking a coup. The EPA and OMB teams have had to manage a shutdown and deregulate. And it takes a lot to work around State, the FBI, and CIA when they are all literally hostile.

The lugenpresse is an enemy that must be destroyed. You can simply ignore academia and pull their funding, you can expel terrorists and MS-13, but a society with gatekeepers like this is one just waiting to be betrayed.

True.

But on the other hand, we still had all the WW2 vets--and older--generations--who were naturally skeptical and didn't automatically swallow everything they heard.
They tended to be better informed and actually READ things, like history books.

Posted by: Burnt Toast at November 29, 2019 06:32 PM (1g7ch)

As I recall, the admirals were obsessed with a 600 ship Navy.

Which I've come to suspect had little to do with establishing a force level necessary to complete a mission given by the civilian government, but had a lot more to do with trying to bump up the number of command slots so that O-6 Captains could get some career mobility to Rear Admiral.

Same reason that the Army started crapping out Infantry Division (Light) units which were so weakened compared to a standard Infantry Division that we used to joke that our mission was to be shipped to a war zone so that we could Die In Place in a loud, grotesque military manner, justifying a massive response by heavier units that had the combat power to actually survive long enough to defeat any plausible enemy.

The last few years have made me relentlessly cynical about the motivations of US military flag officers.

He knows that no matter what the subject is, the Dims/MSM are so angry that they'll instantly take the most extreme position they can, and will appear totally insane to Mr/Ms America.

2) If you suffers the fly to land on you, what do you do when the co0ckroach comes. If you allow the cockroach to land on you, what do you do when the hornet comes? When do you swat them away?

Trump just short-circuits that process and swats everything away. He brings the pain to them in the process and takes any power or prestige from being "the fly that landed on Trump" away from them.

Uh, the issue with Bitburg was that the cemetery included the graves of SS men. Men weren't "conscripted" into Himmlier's elite - they volunteered. Calling them conscripts is like calling Mengele an Army medic.

I blame the Germans officials for either not talking a closer look at the cemetery or boneheadedly thinking it didn't matter, that nobody would notice. It put Reagan in a terrible situation - paying respects to 18 year Fritz the Wehrmacht draftee is one thing, paying respects to troops which not only murdered Jews but also Allied POWs, including Americans is another.

It left a bad taste in my mouth - but it's also a relatively minor, embarrassing incident and minor compared to everything else Reagan accomplished.I certainly don't believe Reagan had any affection whatsoever for the SS, although that's how the idiot media predictably spun it .

Ben! :-) That's what I was told, as a furnace newbie. Then I was throwing out pristine filters and replacing them. Even the HVAC guy said, if they still look new, check back in a month. Now I check monthly but only replace maybe every 2-3 or so.

Honestly, I've had that cynicism for years now. But I've been suppressing it, lying to myself, out of loyalty to the military and Army that made me worth a shit.

The last 3 years have really been an eye-opener, and have forced me to look at things more objectively.

Depends on the media and the use. But, that aside, somewhat paradoxically, the dirtier the filter, the better the filtering. Efficiency of the system will drop, but the air will actually be cleaner with a 'dirtier' filter.

And Trump mocks the every step of the way.

All they have to do is look at their friends twitter crap, instead of having to do actual research to write something.

They really, literally, know nothing, as the Imbecile Ben Rhodes pointed out.

I can't help but think that the public at large is noticing that Progda is All-Hate-OMB-All-the-Time so much so that they're the ones being exhausted by it. I mean, it's hard to ignore alleged "news" stories that never, ever have anything good to say about the man and his many accomplishments.

90% negative coverage. I still think that PDT should start pulling a few FCC licenses for these communist propaganda outlets. He could claim a national security interest in doing so, since his foreign policy is being impacted by their incessant lies about him. Take the false health scare the other weekend as an example.

But "Hymietown" and Sharpton didn't make them say "This is why we can't vote Dem" although that was a lot closer to home than Bitburg.

It's amazing the shit Jewish Dems are willing to take from non-Jewish Dems.

b) Of those of us who thought Carter was the Worst President Ever, and enthusiastically voted for Reagan as a result, few would have envisioned that Jimmuh's failures would be mostly transient, and LBJ's would haunt us to this day.

c) Whatever one thinks of the Reagan Administration, he knew One Big Thing as they say, and that was the Cold War. His State crew right up to Shultz was not prepared to accept the Israelis quite deservedly blowing Arafat and his crowd up in Lebanon if it riled the Soviets. I still need to do some reading on that one to figure out who did what to prevent it.

331 Heh. No the age of Trump is useful. Socialists cant help running their mouths, or fingers mostly, so if it comes to a civil war you'll know who the enemies are.

332 I think we all are coming around to the idea that the Current Unpleasantness is just the revealing of something that's been going on a very long time.

Yes, unfortunately ... I pray that what needs to happen ... happens. Soon, and with "great vigah."

I know, that's my point! Any advisor (I assume) has to take every action or inaction, of the president, in light of how the shitweasels in the Press will cover it, or not cover it. And make no mistake, they've been shitweasels long before Ronnie.

Posted by: Common Tater at November 29, 2019 08:03 PM (q80FF)

337 320 $10 buckks sez Ronaldus was setup by a "Republican Strategist" vis a vis the Bitburg cemetary deal.

It just has that odor about it. And in light of numerous incidents of "conservative" perfidy during the intervening decades, it's a practical certainty.

Reagan was out to win the Cold War, and that meant bucking up the Germans. Reagan's State team was only nominally pro-Israel, the Israelis had the opportunity to turn Arafat and his crew into pulp and we prevented it.

Remember that at that point we were trying to deploy Pershing IRBMs and eventually Tomahawks in the UK, Germany, etc. and there was a lot of (often Russian-funded) opposition to everything we tried to do that manifested itself in a lot of areas.

342 On the Bitburg Controversy, a quick look at wiki notes that RR's staff member, Michael Deaver, made a 'pre-visit' to Bitburg in February but failed to notice the 49 SS graves as they were buried under snow.

Also, it was the conservative Ramone, Johnny, who changed the name of the song to "My Brain Is Hanging Upside Down."

Even if the advisers were perfect, it wouldn't matter. The MFM would invent something.

Not to even remotely imply a comparison between RR and mittens, but "binders full of women" is not something I would have thought could be twisted into everything.

Wow! I was around at the time -- can still remember we were tent-camping in Eureka, CA, and Dad listening to the Eisenhower election coverage on the radio while my middle sister and I were slip-sliding on slimy rocks in the creek! But too young to go to any events, even if we'd been in the area.
