Open Thread

Just a bit of blog business: I've really, really gotta take some time off, so back in the beginning of November, I decided I'd take off Thanksgiving week.

I'll be in and out to put up open threads, and maybe a link if it's important and easy.

The cobloggers said they'll pitch in here and there, but expect blogging to be very light. Like I said, I'll make sure there's new open threads, but that's as much as I can guarantee.

I'll be blogging tomorrow and everything. Just wanted to mention before I tune out for a week.

Ace, enjoy your time off! You've earned it.

And I shared earlier but I guess people missed it, I worked 14 hours over the time I was supposed to in my first pay period this month, so I'm taking today and tomorrow off.

Well... my boss called me FIVE TIMES today, wanting me to come in, because of course my only co-worker took a sick day. Good grief. I cannot make him understand that my hours and availability are limited.

A: All Democrat congresscritters and all of the media experts tell me that all military personnel and all foreign and civil service personnel are brave, dedicated, professional, and non-partisan persons who cannot tell a lie and always speak-up when they encounter wrong-doing.

B. Of the dozen or so military and foreign and civil service personnel who listened to the Trump-Zelensky call, it seems that only one (Vindman) has complained that there was wrong-doing by Trump.

Given A above, I cannot figure out why all of the dedicated, professional, brave, and non-partisan call-listeners haven't come forward and complained about wrong-doing by Trump. A paradox.

109 So "Midway" was fun. There was a gaggle of rowdy old military guys in the row ahead of me (they endeared themselves by referring to me as "young lady"). We chatted after the movie and agreed that it was nice to see a straightforward account that didn't push a narrative. The magnitude of the logistics was staggering.

I appreciated the shout-out to naval cryptanalyst Rochefort.

Also good: Director John Ford screaming to keep rolling even as Midway is under attack. Get that shot, kid! *makes screen rectangle with hands*

Minuses: At times heavily CGI'd (by necessity, I will allow). And I wasn't too fond of the snaggle-toothed pretty boy actor who portrayed Dick Best.

In the early 90s Michigan State had a punter named Josh Butland.

Rumor was it he could bench in excess of 450 pounds. Hell of a leg, too. People said he should have been the MVP in 1991 because we were terrible.

I remember our game at Indiana. Lost 31-0. Late in the game Butland did a punt, Hooser recovered it, got past the coverage and then it was just the kicker left. Butland hit the guy with such viciousness he drew a flag.

Unnecessary roughness - on the freaking kicker. Some guys live up to their names. Other guys dare you to make fun of them.

Dick Butkus smiles.

Compressed: skip Pearl Harbor except for a reference set-up, less time for Doolittle Raid but more for how it directly influenced Midway decision, add a lot more about the sacrifice of the torpedo squadrons and how that ended up as a key factor, and a lot, lot more about how close-run, fortuitous, and indeed near-miraculous the main battle was. Kudos for cramming many key facts into a few dialogue scenes, but betcha 85% of the audience missed 'em.

This is why Trump has been smart to claim the call is "perfect." Many R congressmen, senators, and pundits have said he should admit what he said was improper, but not impeachable. But as soon as Trump goes there, the usual suspects will unceasingly claim Trump admits wrongdoing! Impeach!!!

It seems a lot of the "admit it was improper" people have changed and are now supporting Trump's position. Good.

President is chief law enforcement officer, and has near plenary foreign policy powers, we have an MLAT with Ukraine, there is massive evidence of various kinds of corruption and potential criminal behavior involving a former VP and possibly other officials in/dealing with Ukraine. Done. Absolutely appropriate and completely legal and constitutional.

Political candidates [or even office-holders, except for the president] have no immunity of any kind from investigation when high-quality evidence of wrongdoing is abundant. [um, but you might want to make sure it's actual evidence, and not, um, invented by political actors, the CIA, or the FBI - not that I can think of any time THAT has happened .....]

217 What is Trump doing in Syria?

"US forces did not withdraw from all of their positions in Syria last month. They maintained their control over al-Tanf airbase which controls the Syrian border with Jordan and Iraq."

"More importantly, from Russias perspective, the US has not relinquished its military presence adjacent to Syrias oil facilities in the Deir Azzour province on the eastern side of the Euphrates River. Indeed, according to media reports, the US is reinforcing its troop strength in Deir Azzour to ensure continued US-Kurdish control over Syrias oil fields."

"The continued US-Kurdish control over Syrias oil fields and installations requires Putin to continue directly funding his war in Syria. So long as this remains the case, given Russian financial constraints, Putin is likely to go to great lengths to restrain his Iranian, Syrian and Hezbollah partners and their aggressive designs against Israel in order to prevent a costly war."

(From Caroline Glicks website. I messed up and lost the link).

President Trump understands that war costs money. Stop the money flow and you stop the war.

285 I see where there is speculation that Adm Green may defy President Trump and order the convening of military tribunal to decide to remove Chief Gallagher's Trident Pin (SEAL designation).

This beggars belief that we've somehow spawned mutinous senior officers in key areas of the military service. I can think of no other charge that would be to the everlasting shame of any officer who served this nation as to be rightfully accused of being mutinous to the CIC. We have men in fighting positions and in technically combat arenas - this is a horror and such senior officers need to be removed from their command immediately.

If Trump must raise a non-comm to the rank of adm in charge of CincLant or CincPac - I could give a rats ass less - the senior officer corps has apparently rotted from years of Obama executive rule - it needs to be trimmed right down to the stump if necessary.

I disagree. He shouldn't have asked for a favor of investigating a credible (at this time) 2020 opponent from a foreign head-of-state. A POTUS needs to avoid even the appearance of impropriety. Based on what I've heard to-date, I believe someone who was on the call warned Trump about the can of worms he'd opened, and that's why Trump never followed-up on his favor request and told Sondland he wanted nothing from Zelensky.

In a perfect world, Trump could explain as above (assuming I'm correct) and claim no harm, no foul, I was frustrated that people demand I be impeached for improperly benefiting from a few hotel room fees, while Biden's know-nothing kid gets millions from foreigners but no criticism. And that would be the end of it. But we are far from that perfect world.

That's why he challenged Zelensky to help him or no $$$ - it need to stop, no more piggy banking politcos, no more bank rolling the Soros' of the world with US tax payer $ - and the deep state was upset about that gravy train getting stopped at the station. Whether that involved a guy who was seeking to be President - who cares - he shouldn't have done it.

It shouldn't matter to the DOJ if some guy is politically connected if he did the crime - what AG would we want, seriously, that failed to prosecute crime because the potential criminal had a political party's backing and the press?

Durham seems quietly ruthless. I think there's an understanding that process crimes will provoke too much backlash. The elites lie all the time, so they'll scream "political persecution" the moment these are filed.

There need to be real meat on the charges and we all know it's there, but you can't move until the cases are airtight.

I've said before: this is how I would play it in Trump's shoes. So while some people think nothing is going to happen, if I were Trump, that's exactly what I'd want them to think.

I also like the uncertainty this is causing. Who has flipped? Who has been interviewed? Are indictments coming? From which jurisdiction?

I think that's the only reason Biden finally entered the race. He knew he wasn't sharp enough anymore, it would be for naught, but, he could use being a candidate to protect himself and his son.

PDT didn't have to do anything, since he's not the one who initiated this investigation, Ukraine did years ago.

Ol' Paste Eatin' Joe bragged on tape about threatening to withhold a billion in aid unless they fired the Ukranian prosecutor who was looking into Burisma's connections with Biden. He cannot 'splain his way out of that one. He's caught and he did it to himself because imbecile. He was Veep at the time. He's busted.

All of this predates PDT.

It would be exposed and then he would be impeached for subverting justice.

That's the game the Dems play. "Heads I win, tails you lose."

What he managed to do is out all of the traitors within the White House and NSC. Neat work for minimal risk.

Having howled about this for two weeks, what are the Dems going to do? They've got nothing, there's still no budget, and now we're headed for a shutdown just in time for Christmas.

And just after the FISA thing blows up.

Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd

I agree here 100% - these prosecutions have to be "no doubt about it" bad - they can't be like tit for tat process crimes - that is why it is taking so long - good prosecutions need time to ripen fully - otherwise they'll just be dismissed a political payback and excused - and there is no reason to work that hard on these indictments for that. They need to be all inclusive, devastating, and take out the criminals for good - no PR to save them.

You are accused of murder. You answer all questions to the best of your knowledge, but forget something.

It is clear that you did not commit murder, but they take your honest mistake and charge you for obstructing an investigation and lying.

458 Just returned from a Scout dinner and fundraiser. Sat next to Stratton Leopold, a producer of the Mission Impossible franchise.

I've met him several times, but he continues to be the nicest, most shy "famous" person I know.

Anyhow, I was unable to bedazzle my ortho foot thingy. But I still have a couple of parties to go to where I can write "EDKH" in sparkles on the boot.

459 The Senate's Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations released the 105-page report saying China started in the late 1990s to exchange salaries, research funding, laboratory space and other incentives for information from U.S. university laboratories and other research institutions, much of it publicly funded.

As China spent 20 years recruiting researchers with access to advanced science and technology, U.S. agencies failed to adequately respond. The Federal Bureau of Investigation, for example, did not respond strongly until mid-2018, the report said.

460 The FBI has put a huge emphasis on process crimes over the last 20 years or so, and it's an incredible perversion of the entire concept of Justice. As other's have pointed out, it's the method of choice for dictatorial and totalitarian regimes who want to eliminate their political and ideological rivals.

463 Life is full of small pleasure. At a reasonable price, I found an immaculate "Type D" stock for my retro M16A1. Almost unbelievable tight on the buffer tube though. I had to oil up the tube to get the stock on. I don't have any idea how I would get it off now.

466 Holy shit what a positive week for us.
The dems couldn't have set themselves up for a higher fall with impeachment.
War Turtle Mitch has confirmed that this shit show WILL go to trial if articles passed and oh and BTW, confirmed to Hannity, Hearsay will NOT be admissible evidence. This keeps dem prez candidates in the senate from campaigning.
Confirmed FISA abuse report to be released, and hearing already set for Horowitz to testify
Deval Patrick face planted already.. he gone
The Epstein case is already wreaking havoc IE Prince Charles basically being disowned by the royal family
FBI agent under criminal investigation for altering 302
See above for why Flynn case about to be tossed..
Cali supreme court shot down the crazy idea that Trump must produce tax returns to be on prez ballot
The dems have shot themselves in the face repeatedly on love TV
Yeah.. GREAT week

He still has lands and titles.

He is still an Admiral in the Royal Navy.

He is still in the House of Lords.

This just frees him up so he can let his freak flag fly.

I was in HH with my family in August. I wish I could have arranged to take you to lunch. I think you mentioned you live somewhat close to Savannah? Of course, I had to take everyone to the Pirates House (we always went there with the kids when they were little).

FBI finding some goof, aiding and assisting him in his machinations, then busting him as a high criminal when he attempts to make his set up play.

No, wait, that's not a process crime.
It's is a different set play the FBI uses to falsely inflate themselves.

Like the other Dept of Staters, her little clique of globalists, and their tools in the government, Democrats, are living in an alternative universe.

Someday, the ugliness they are causing will cause even more harm than they are causing now.

Obviously, none of them passed a US civics class.

Durham's following the money. It's almost like this "defense think tank" is a huge slush fund for Special People who know Special People. Poking around Defense should yield a lot of graft and grift.

Saw a meme earlier today. Can't find it now, but it has the picture of Nancy Pelosi, Joe Biden, John Kerry, and Mitt Romney's sons.

The meme said "What are the odds that the children of all of them worked for a Ukraine energy company?"

Noticing that all 4 are primary leaders of the UniParty, and Ukraine is perhaps the most corrupt government in the world, I would guess the odds their kids are involved are less than 3 - 1, more like the heavy favorite at 4 - 5.
