The Morning Report - 11/21/19

blumsond.jpg

Good morning kids. Thursday and as the sham-peachment rolls on, the big news coming out yesterday was EU Ambassador Gordon Sondland's blockbuster testimony wherein he stated in response to Schiff-for-Brains, and I'm paraphrasing, that yes he believed that Trump did ask for some sort of quid pro quo with regards to aid money for Ukraine. Aside from the fact that the past few days of testimony of the Dems' own witnesses shot quid pro quo to hell and they then went on to bribery and extortion, that was enough for Schiff-for-Brains to halt the proceedings on the pretext of a bathroom break to dash out into the hallway where a gaggle of propagandists had their microphones and cameras rolling:

"The veneer has been torn away... This is a seminal moment in our investigation."

And the agitprop media went wild. Except when the Republicans started grilling him, he was forced to whistle a very different tune - namely the whole truth.

...Ambassador Sondland admitted that his conclusion tying the release of the withheld security aid to Ukraine to "some kind of action on the public statement that we had been discussing for many weeks" was only his own presumption, supported by no direct evidence. He conceded, in response to a question from Republican Rep. Mike Turner, that nobody told him that President Trump linked the Ukraine aid to a Biden investigation. "No one on this planet told you that President Trump was tying aid to investigations. Yes or no?" Rep. Turner asked. Sondland replied: "Yes." In a follow-up question, Rep. Turner asked, "So you really have no testimony here today that ties President Trump to a scheme to withhold aid from Ukraine in exchange for these investigations?" Ambassador Sondland replied, "Other than my own presumption." At another point in his testimony, the ambassador downgraded his "presumption" of a quid pro quo to "my own personal guess...

CNN actually had to change it's chyron of "Trump About to Be Arrested" almost in mid-sentence of Sondland's damning statement. But the real killer-diller here is Sondland recalled a meeting he had with Trump wherein the President specifically and unequivocally declared:

"I WANT NOTHING! I WANT NOTHING! I WANT NO QUID PRO QUO! TELL PRESIDENT ZELENSKY TO DO THE RIGHT THING!"

Jim Jordan, whose head I fully expect to explode at any moment over all the outrageousness of this madness, wanted to know why, in G-d's name, in Sondland's entire 23-page statement about the incident was this conversation - which is exculpatory in the extreme and completely exonerates Trump over anything he is being accused of vis a vis quid pro quo, bribery, extortion, picking his feet in Poughkeepsie, etc. - omitted from his testimony? And Sondland said, get this, there wasn't enough room in his report to include it. If I were Jim Jordan, I'd have leaped over the lectern, ripped Sondland's arms from his body and beaten Schiff-for-Brains to death with them (rhetorically speaking).

But, no matter. Schiff-for-Brains finally got a shred of an iota of a fig leaf of an excuse to declare he's got the goods on Trump and so as we speak the articles of impeachment are being drafted based on Sondland's testimony, minus the aforementioned of course. The Democrats are already attempting to spin all of this but of course are omitting, as is their wont when facts get in the way of the meme, the context around the conversations between Trump, Zelensky and all the players involved. Zelensky was elected to root out and end rampant corruption in his country from the previous administration. That gang of crooks it should be noted were up to their eyeballs in it and it involved the Bidens, Clinton, Obama and others that along with run of the mill goniffing of millions, players in that nation were part of the Russian collusion myth/plot to sabotage Trump in 2016. All Trump was trying to do was ensure that any aid going to Ukraine would not end up stolen and or pissed away as it was under both presidents' predecessors. That my friends is the kind of smart and 100% legal statecraft which is part of the platform Trump ran and won on. Devin Nunes, G-d bless him, was attempting to bring up this very issue and put things in context as well, citing a witness (can't recall his name, dammit!) who gave a sworn deposition to what I just related and that would've blown a hole the size of a $150 billion dollar pallet of case into Sondland's entire testimony. But of course Schiff-for-Brains would not allow him to testify.

My gut tells me that, like everything else, this too shall explode in their faces. Look, they are going to have a vote on impeachment no matter what happens and of course it will pass, but along strict party lines. Even after yesterday, the people are sick to death of this garbage because they are recognizing more and more that it is indeed an attempt to illegally oust Trump. Plus, if/when this gets to the Senate, the whole thing will bust wide open with witnesses that the Dems are desperate not to be called because it will not only debunk their case against Trump, it will reveal the original plot to overthrow him and put all sorts of people in the spotlight and jeopardy, at least in theory. Plus there is Horowitz and Durham, but AG Barr gave a speech the other day that only hints at his fury at the Democrats.

Lastly, it should be noted that Gordon Sondland and his wife have received threats and intimidation, as well as organized protests at some of the hotels that they own. In the center of this is a Democrat Congressman from Antifa City USA, aka Portland Oregon named Earl Blumenauer who openly called for boycotts, and then later emitted the not-so cryptic Tweet "Welcome to the Resistance." The Left went out of its mind with rage when Trump let out a Tweet about Masha Potatovich (Maria Yovanovytch) which was an absolute nothing-burger compared to this, which is bust-out in-your-face witness intimidation. Could that account for Sondland's behavior and the omission of the exculpatory evidence from his 23-page statement and his responses to Schiff-for-Brains? Well, given all we have seen from intimidating people in restaurants to doxxing personal information, to bike locks in the head to gunning down Republicans at a softball practice, I'd say it's a possibility.

33 If Peter Buttigieg gets to become President I expect he will try to revoke the tax exempt status of churches which don't support gay marriage.

He's an intelligent guy (Not about that;,But he's well spoken and sharp) He will know well enough to play the gay card if attacked by Trump (and Trump does not have a problem with gay marriage), but will try to appear a little more centrist to the people that would appeal to. He would appear to be the more moderate candidate if he gets picked by Warren for VP

Not content with condemning its attacks in Syria as destabilizing, Russias Foreign Ministry this week decided to embarrass Israel, revealing information about four alleged IDF attacks in the past 10 days even saying it used Jordanian airspace to carry out one of them.

If the Dems are honest with themselves, they will rig it for Biden to be the one to lose bigly to Trump, and thereby be able to say "see? The old Democrat Party is dead and we need to go full Leftist."

BUT... if they really do believe their own Kool-Aid, they will nominate Lizzy Hekawi or some other full on freak and then get totally blown out the water, and their Marxsm repudiated by the electorate.

102 SUNY Binghamton is a freaking joke. SUNY has 63 different campuses? That alone is a freaking joke to me. Why anyone would send their kids and money to 90 percent of these colleges is beyond me.

if anyone asked for my advice, I would say go with HIllsdale, the miltary academies and a select few private and state schools. There are the usual suspects but they are getting smaller every decade.

You send your kid and money to a random state school. Then you are not only wasting your money, you are putting it to bad in this day and age. I can't believe I am saying this as in my day and individual was never defined politically or philosophically by his teachers and classmates. I enjoyed mixing it up with teachers and they did not punish me for my beliefs. They might have, but I would never accept that weak position. I really feel badly for kids these days.

I say think long and hard about what you want from a given college and how you expect to get it. Don't just go to go and don't send your kids to assimilation camp unless they are ready to fight for their beliefs.

152 I still more-than-half-believe this is all a trap set by Trump. Consider:

(1) The collusion between the Democrats and Ukraine has been noted here as far back as maybe two years go. It's been front-page news in Ukraine.

(2) Trump has been and probably continues to be surrounded by #Resistance moles since he took office.

(3) Trump's conversations with Zelensky were "perfect" -- that is, there wasn't so much as an inadvertent gaffe or errant phrase that could be even unreasonably interpreted as untoward.

(4) The idea of impeachment is like catnip laced with heroin to the Left. They can't leave it alone even if their very survival depended on it.

It's the third one that has me scratching my head. It was too perfect. The other thing is that, if this is all part of Trump's plan, to have the Democrats' shenanigans exposed in such a way that the even American news media can't ignore it, the plan is so simple that it could work.

Just look at what black ministers have had to confront. Prop 8 in California, and also the wicked Planned Parenthood/abortionists who purposely place their clinics in their communities.

I'll never forget when the Smithsonian did an exhibit on Civil Rights leaders they included a bust of Margaret Sanger. A bunch of black minister wrote to the museum requesting that they remove it, as her contribution to the black community is KILLING black babies. They refused. A group of ministers (30 or so) then staged a protest outside of the museum. Still didn't remove it and the only media outlets that even covered it were religious/pro-life oriented.

I imagine they are quite sick of these progressive vipers using their community to prop up their own cause, such as likening gay marriage to black civil rights, and claiming PP is providing "care" to young women.

194 I'll never forget when the Smithsonian did an exhibit on Civil Rights leaders they included a bust of Margaret Sanger.

The kids start goofing around while she's talking to the waitress. The mom gets impatient and yells, "Eddy! Stop that! Or else!" All 15 boys suddenly sit down, obedient and quiet.

The waitress asks, "Did you really name all 15 of your boys Eddy?"

"Yup," says the woman. "Makes it easier than trying to remember who's who every damn time."

"But what if you only want to talk to one of them for some reason?" the waitress asks.

Palin is probably the best example of a VP candidate pulling voters on her own, but I imagine that those voters would come out to be a rounding error against the 100+ million people who voted in the election. People who either wouldn't have voted at all or voted for another ticket in that case.

I'd be interested in seeing some kind of numbers around it, but it would be impossible to do that retrospectively. You'd have to collect the data (unreliable data, by the way) at each election for a few decades before the numbers would say anything of substance.

But I lean towards VP candidates don't move the needle materially. So, no matter who the VP candidate on a Buttigieg or Warren ticket, they're not going to help the black vote any more than running the two on the same ticket would do to hurt the numbers.

It seems "transgender activists", ie obsessive and dangerous mentally ill people, filed fake criminal complaints against the woman (in the UK) and those prompted an automatic denial in some database the US uses to determine worthiness to enter the country. 316 A few things: The Democrats say that Trump saying to Sondland on September 9th that he wanted nothing from Ukraine, etc., came after the leaker's "whistleblower" complaint became public, so that Trump's statement was a lie. The Democrats also say that the release of the aid to Ukraine on September 11th without conditions only happened because Trump "got caught."

The Republicans, in my view, have not adequately refuted these two Democrat claims. They need to explain how and why the aid got released.

Finally, Ohio Congressman Mike Turner blew a huge opportunity. He should have asked Sondland whether his opening statement that yes, there was a quid pro quo and that everyone was in the loop, was a lie. He also should have asked whether everyone who was in the loop also presumed that there was a quid pro quo, and if yes, whether he was a mind reader.

332 >>I really worry the biggest obstacle to Trump being re-elected is incompetence and apathy.

You should worry more about bad candidates which was apparently the case in both Kentucky and Louisiana.

The down ballot races in Kentucky went big for Republicans across the board and it was well know the governor was one of the most unpopular in the country. And Republican governors in Kentucky are more the exception than the rule and they have a bad habit of not getting reelected. In Louisiana we apparently had a similarly unlikeable candidate. Bad candidates are not indicative of anything other than they are bad candidates.

VA has been drifting left for years thanks to it's proximity to DC. Virginia has gotten rich off big government and they are not going to walk away from it without a fight.

Trump can move votes. He has proven that over and over again. But he can't magically make bad candidates good and he is not going to win in deep blue states which is exactly what VA is turning into.

That's a linear view and close to the Concern Troll demarcation. I'll look beyond the general comity remarks and pathos pleas to policy prescriptions and belief on the proper role for government. That's before I get to essential views on the Constitution. Tulsi fails on all those very important measures. She accepts most of the Democratic platform on limiting individual rights, despotic government, punitive taxation, corruption of the courts and a general tyranny of a majority to enforce it.

Never, ever, will I or many people accept that.

You let me know when a Democrat shows up who respects the Constitution and individual liberty, but simply differs on the how we approach those issues. I think we'll wait a long time for that. Maybe never.

I kinda agree with this. some will call it eeyoring but they would be wrong. The R get out the vote strategy DOES have to get a lot better. The Dems are basically not going to allow a former Dem voter or union member not to vote. They will go after you at work, and your home wherever. They drive people in vans during working hours to vote. They will do anything to win. Repubs usually just expect everyone to spontaneously show up. For most that IS enough, it is called being normal. But these are not normal times. You have to get every vote and leave none by the wayside.

And don't get me started on the lack of Republican poll watchers.

Put down the reefer. You've completely missed the point.

All of those places had higher than normal Democrat turnout. I suppose you can attribute that to several factors, but it still remains that Democrats are much better at GOTV.

People fail to understand how ideologically driven Democrats are. Ditto some of the so-called Independents. They're going to be there on Election Day in large numbers. Democrats are priming their machine and it doesn't matter who the candidate is. It could be a shoe. They will be voting on large numbers.

Where the female producers sell their bodies to lonely old men?

That seems...problematic...

Tangent:

Race switching rolls has become de rigeur, obviously, but one franchise that did it that I've never heard a complaint about is Rocky. After six movies and a realization that a 70 year old man shouldn't be boxing, they continued to series by following Apollo Creed's son in Creed and Creed II.

I've never seen a complaint that it should have followed Rocky's kid.

It makes perfect sense in the films. They handle it really well, essentially handing a franchise about a white guy to black people, and everyone seems happy with it.

I don't not this disapprovingly. It's just interesting that audiences are supportive of the race switching when it, you know, makes sense.

In 2016, Trump had one part-time campaign staff and that person got yanked before the election and sent elsewhere.

He already has 19 people on the ground in Minnesota, a state he narrowly lost and is poised to do well in 2020.

If you want to get some good on the ground information of what the Trump campaign and the RNC are doing follow Brad Parscale's twitter. Trump won in 2016 without any significant help from the RNC and had a very poor GOTV ground game, but he still won.

He will not be in the same position this time as his campaign is already ramping up for next year and they will have the resources of the RNC added to that this time. Plus he doesn't really have to spend much for the Primary as he will be the only one on the ballot in most States, so he can save all of those sweet donations on the general.

His rallies are getting larger than they were in 2016 also.

But losing a landslide in Virgina, a formerly red state, losing in KY, and losing in LA is not a good sign and it can not be explained away.
The president put a lot into KY and LA. Could he have been more clear about the stakes and how it was portrayed as a referendum? He told them this!
There are only a tiny handful of states that everyone saw were moving right before 2016. LA and KY, along with WV and probably OH were four of the five as I remember. Again,. I am not talking 2016, I am talking over the last ten years or so.

It sucks when we can't get the governorship in LA and KY. It could have been specific personalities but so what? We have seen that before. Do I need to go down the list? There are always personalities. Remember the woman they said was a witch?
All I am saying it don't whistle pass the graveyard. We need to be doing deep dive analysis and figure out what happened. My lot is to defeat the opponent the next time we face up. That is the point of this political thing.

he is right that the Trump Campaign was amazing in 2016, not question there. The guy won!

But since that time we have have quite a few losses. If we had won 2018, impeachment would not even be happening. All we had to do it get the turnout. And we DID tell people that.

I see Repubs at the state level seriously questioning what is going on and what they need to do to fix it. If some want to say those questions are wrong, so be it. I would rather do everything to win next time than leave a single stone unturned.

530 All should look closely at what actually happened in Louisiana - in the early stages, Ralph Abraham was the leading candidate. Rispone jumped in, backed by $10 million of spending of his own money (HUGE in a market like Louisiana) and he launched a widespread, nasty attack campaign against Abraham. Result of the first election; Edwards (D) 47%, Rispone, (R) 27%, Abraham (R) 24%.

Only a small fraction of Abraham supporters needed to drop out to kill Rispone's chances in the runoff, and that's what happened. Meanwhile, on the dem side, the Black party organizers in Baton Rouge and New Orleans went all out saturating black media and black voters with the message that Eddie Rispone would be coming after them if he got elected, so they turned out in great numbers.

a significant number of republican voters were motivated to stay home, and an even bigger number of black voters were motivated to show up. that's what happened in Louisiana.

He called out Lindsey Graham, who made one of his infamous hollow promises while a guest on Hannity back in January that the nexus between the DOJ and CNN in the Roger Stone police state action would be investigated. Of course, the last federal officeholder blackmailed for homosexuality by the Deep Police State has done nothing. 544 454, Thanks for going an actually looking at the data rather than opinion. Generally down ballot races in a state are more indicative of party strength as voters know less about the candidates and vote for many solely on Party Id.

A news story that I read somewhere else indicated that total GOP voters in VA leg. races were 60,000 plurality over Dems but the judicially ordered gerrymander of the state leg. resulted in a number of Republicans not running in the new districts.

In LA, and KY, both governors were incumbents, Bel Edwards had positive evaluations for the most part while Bevan did not. Edwards benefitted from the untried Rep. candidate while Bevan faced a Dem AG whose father was a previously well liked governor.

Bel Edwards raised taxes which probably hurt him to some extent but a lot of that was blamed on previous governor Rep. Bobby Jindal who had the state in a hole fiscally when he left office.

The point is that most people can identify their governor and their president and evaluate them based on different criteria than simply partisan id.

One of the issues that has always been a problem when you mobilize either new voters or voters that rarely vote, they will not necessarily follow a party ticket. For that reason, both parties tend to shy away from mobilizing these voters. Both parties have apparatchiks that fill their ranks in office that are essentially run by the party bosses and donors.

Parties for that reason want predictability-bland inoffensive candidates that "look" the part. They also only want to mobilize voters that are predictable party line voters.

Non-traditional candidates, like Trump, are often required to build their own brand as the regular party folks resent being pushed aside and not consulted (or paid). The voters that these campaigns get often do not vote party line on other races. Thus, the party and bland generic drones in office do not appreciate the "new" voters brought in by the non-traditional campaigns. This is one of the reasons that the GOP does not seriously contest any urban offices because they do not want an exciting race to bring more Dems to the polls for other races, even if they would vote that a particular GOP candidate in one office.

Two Ukrainian officials meddled in the 2016 U.S. presidential election by leaking a secret ledger showing $12.7 million in payments between Ukraine's ousted pro-Russian President Viktor Yanukovych and Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, a Ukrainian court said Wednesday.

The Kyiv district court ruled that National Anti-Corruption Bureau Director Artem Sytnyk and legislator Serhiy Leshchenko broke the law by revealing that Manafort's name and signature appeared on the ledger.

Shit, I know it. And I am not tasked with being an expert on Ukraine.

I have been watching people making phone calls my entire life. My hearing is, and has been, great. Never have I been watching a person making a call, which was not on speakerphone, and been able to hear or understand a conversation. I've even tried, but to no avail. Try it live!

583 No, I think he loses Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin. So KY and LA won't matter.

Two of those states flipped to blue governors in 2018, and the other re-elected a Democrat governor.

584 Sorry grammie, I've changed mine several times. And, worse, my hash changes all the time, depending on where I'm posting from. Plus I use a VPN on my phone now and get a different hash every time, it seems like. Can't count on anything to stay the same I guess.

585 How dare you actually look into this instead of just concluding "the republican didn't win the governors race so Trump is doomed!"

Posted by: Buzzion

On social issues, Republicans and Democrats look a lot alike in Louisiana. They differ somewhat on economic issues, but that difference hasn't been enough to matter. Think of Mass and NY - you don't really get a lot of difference between a Dem Gov or Rep Gov in either state, and they have had both on and off these last few decades - even NYC has had both and that's pretty liberal - GOTV matters but the quality of the candidate has to really help you or its just going to be too hard a slog...

Did he lose in 12?

587 To me, Michigan looks pretty good, though maybe not great, and Wisconsin I am optimistic about. Pennsylvania looks tough. But Pennsy always looks tough. Winnable, but a real fight.

590 I agree though that Trump needs to focus a ton of effort on the battleground states in particular. Every indication seems to be he knows that, but still...

Posted by: Huck Follywood at November 21, 2019 09:39 AM (NVYyb)

591 I was just responding to what I thought was
mistaken. As I said, Virginia is a terrible result for the GOP. The
other two states I am less concerned about. I think Trump wins both in
the general (Kentucky and Louisiana). Virginia, where I lived many happy
childhood years, is another damn matter.

Posted by: Huck Follywood at November 21, 2019 09:22 AM (NVYyb)

I agree. No way those states are turning blue in this cycle. I am just a bit pissed they did not go with Trump on the Governors. He asked them to do it and they didnt'. I get the guys were jerks of some kind. But we need some momentum right now.

Virginia is gone as the government Leviathan grows and grows. The people in charge are not going to deny their own economy. The perma economy attracts people from NY and PA like crazy. Too bad, they leave former manufacturing towns for a town that manufactures nothing.

593 It all boils down to education. What the heck is Betsy Devos (s?) doing? Even though Desantis did away with that bs called common core, the schools are still using it in FL! Teach your young and adult children the reasons why they MUST homeschool their children. Also, demographics. Conservatives must have more kids and homeschool them. Also, break the teachers and other public unions. They are destroying our country and kids. Liars all. Dont get me started on universities.

594 Wisconsin was turned over to Dem Gov. Evers because lower voter turn out for mid-term elections which gives the higher Dem districts (Milwaukee/Madison) the edge. The Repubs have to really turn out to move anything in Wisc. Just an observation.

597 Virginia looks like a lab experiment in NeverTrump Republicanism. When you run Ed Gillespie the Washington Jonah Goldberg's get awfully excited but the downstate GOP voters seemed to yawn. Maybe run someone who wants to make blackface an issue, or talk about infanticide. Ask AA voters in Richmond how excited they are about Margaret Sanger replacing Patrick Henry as the patron saint of the Commonwealth.

Virginia outs the NT grift - in Virginia, Bill Kristol proudly sent money to Northam because Gillespie was too butch for him.

599 I remember when Scott Brown was going to be the no vote to kill Obamacare before the Dems did an end round around the constitution and then he proceeded to behave like just about every other squishy rino senator and no one was that shocked he lost. And then wanted him to go away when he tried pulling that carpetbagging shit that apparently liberal Massachusetts republicans are fond of doing.

I missed where he was the future, because he was very much the GOPe's present.

Deck chairs on the Titanic. Way too late to stop what is coming. The left is going to lose; other groups may or may not win. The moonbat infested .gov education system is not going anywhere this side of the burning times.

603 Is anyone going to point out that Holmes is testifying about a US ambassador having a loud converation with the POTUS, one having to do with delicate foreign policy, on an outdoor restaurant patio? Who was sitting at the next table sir? When Sondland held the phone away from his ear who else could hear this conversation? These people are pathetic.

604 The thing I'm concerned about is that the Senate isn't such a lock to act sanely and within normal court procedure (remember it will be Roberts who will preside and like all judges allow or deny testimony. And Roberts already is involved as he is the supervisor of the FISA court/judges) and not manage to arrive at a the 2/3d's majority against Trump. It's not a lock in the Senate. There are too many RINOS, Globalists and NeverTrumpers to take things for granted.

Yes 67 is huge but it could be possible given the bendiness of the Senators.

605 the military arm of the left (antifa and other protestors and trouble makers) are applying pressure to the EU ambassador by threatening his family. No wonder he made such as fake statement. Plus, his legal team is 4 lefty lawyers who most likely wrote the 23 page opening remarks. truth out in the cross. that is why Schifty rules out cross-exam every time he can.
