The Morning Rant

talking ape.jpg
"If there's one thing that makes the NeverTrumpers (of both parties) pound their tiny little fists in despair, it's their complaint that "Trump's supporters never criticize him." This is usually followed up with snark about "the Trump Cult", and how CNN could show live footage of him banging hotties in the Oval Office while giving our nuclear codes to Putin via the hot line and we wouldn't complain. Of course, that's not news, that's CNN, so we would automatically think they're probably using unsourced footage from a guy who got it from a guy who got it from the DNC.

"But I have a similar complaint about the NeverTrumpers. Namely, Trump could flip ever single federal court in the country, pass deregulation that would boost our economic output by a factor of five, and squash Islamic terrorism around the globe once and for all, and the NeverTrumpers would still be crying about his mean tweets and writing articles about the conservative case for voting for Democrats.

"So they can eff right off. But I know that Trump is not above criticism. But after 3 days of this impeachment farce, it is now clear that the president's biggest failure has been the horrifically bad job he's done with personnel. He doesn't seem to know how to pick people. I get the impression that the way to do well in a job interview with him is to kiss his ass a lot, and you've got the job. Maybe that works in the NY real estate market, but it hasn't served him well as president.

"It's been so bad that I think we've been lucky that there haven't been more of these traitorous deep state moles undermining him and screwing things up for him.

"I think he needs to do some serious housecleaning. Any Obama admin holdover should be immediately given the left foot of fellowship. And perhaps he should deputize an HR chief, someone who he can trust absolutely, who would be responsible for all of the hiring and vetting of personnel.

"Maybe he's been “naïve”. Maybe he underestimated how bad the opposition was. Fair enough. But ultimately, the personnel failures are his responsibility."

54 I don't disagree that Trump has done a poor job with personnel, but it's also true a lot of these folks are career bureaucrats who serve regardless of who is President. Plus I think as a Swamp outsider, there's less to pick from in the first place. I think Carter was another President who wasn't really part of the DC swamp, and it showed sometimes in terms of how the press treated him and in the origins and performance of some of his appointees.

I also find some sad irony in the English TV shows "Yes, Minister" and "Yes,Prime Minister"; one of the central conceits of both shows was the conflict between the unelected career civil service bureaucrats and the elected MPs and governing ministers.

The only way to accomplish the goal of having a loyal staff for his second term is to have people start searching the Trump-friendly websites now. Review both articles and comments, invite people who have a demonstrated loyalty to apply and then bring them in to start fresh.

They got pink slips BEFORE his inauguration.

From the WaPo:

The incoming Obama administration has notified all politically-appointed ambassadors that they must vacate their posts as of Jan. 20, the day President-elect Barack Obama takes the oath of office, a State Department official said.

The clean slate will open up prime opportunities for the president-elect to reward political supporters with posts in London, Paris, Tokyo and the like. The notice to diplomatic posts was issued this week.

Dated Dec. 3, 2008.

Pic 3 of Conte is very glamorous, and the one of him with Coleen Gray is very gritty and man-card-worthy. (So I'd guess, being a guy. But as a writer I look at both sexes and decide how to describe them, sometimes from the viewpoint of the opposite sex and sometimes from the same sex. My remarks above about Conte are as I'd guess a straight woman would see him.)

Trump's ability to find outside the beltway QUALITY staff, was destroyed by all the investigations.

Some of his chosen staff was SENT TO JAIL, over stuff that DC insiders have always done.

The Deep State was ripping apart lives to destroy any support for the President, so other Deep Staters (Kelly and such) would be placed in positions of power.

That is why Trump has had staff problems.

Hell, they even went after his Kids and Grandkids, who would want to go through THAT?

98 If nothing else, the popularity of the Dutch Trump video (America first, Netherlands second!) video is pretty much proof that Trump supporters are willing to see things that are not friendly to Trump. Every Trump supporter that I know who's seen it thinks it's hilarious, even though it implies that Trump is a racist, and Don Jr. is a tax cheat.

In contrast, can you imagine the howls of outrage if a similar video had been made about Obama?

106 I have maintained that Trump actually takes a competitive businessman's approach to personnel decisions, rather than an academic approach. And although it's got good points, it looks like in Government jobs the Academic approach to hiring is probably better, because it is very hard to get rid of people once they're in, and they have way too much authority and ability to screw things up even after you find out they've gone bad.

The Academic approach is to put a huge deal of effort into picking the Right Person, vetting them, interviewing them, taking weeks or months to make the decision, and then defending and supporting them no matter what.

The Business approach is to not take much time, just pick the first person who makes a good showing, and then fire them instantly if they make a mistake. You may go through 6 hires in 6 months before you get a good one that sticks, but it's a viable option in a fast moving market. You end up with someone good.

Like i said, that hiring model is not working out for the bureaucracy. Jobs are too sticky.

127 Mollie's not wrong.

I don't think Trump is strongly ideological. He's a pragmatist. In the private sector, when people leave one job and go to work for their old competitor, nobody thinks they're going to sabotage the new boss because they're still loyal to the old one. When a pitcher gets traded to another team, he doesn't try to screw over the new team. He doesn't purposely throw easy pitches when he plays his old team because he really wants to make it easy for them. In most jobs, the person you're answering to right now is the person you're loyal to. So Trump expected that whatever their previous loyalties had been, Obama era bureaucrats would be loyal to him.

Politics isn't like that. Bureaucrats aren't like that.

I don't know where to start BTH...

I''ll be brutally honest, I'm in crisis. That said, I've hit bottom, and with the help of a wide, and deep group of friends I am attempting to put my life back together.

A month ago I completed a life goal athletically, only to come home to a demand that I pack up and leave. The bride of 47 years wants a divorce.

As I was blindsided by this news, along with the fact that all my assets are "tied up", I attempted to take my life. I was saved from a police siege, by a good friend who got me out of the house safely, and into a Psych facility for 10 days of observation.

In the meantime, I'm under court order to avoid contact with my bride and i cannot access anything in my house.

Friends have stepped up to provide housing and assistance while I start my prostate cancer treatments...WHICH ARE KICKING MY ASS at the moment.

They are also helping empty and prepare for sale my mom's house. The assets of which are needed to pay for her residence at a skilled nursing home.

I'm moment to moment these days. My friends are amazing, and my only charge is to look after myself, go to my counseling sessions, and stay healthy enough to withstand the radiation regimen that will start in two months time.

I apologize to the Horde for my actions back on or around 10/22/19...I truly am.

He came in rather neutral and expected to impress people with a business-like attitude.

He even recently said that he would have governed more to the center if the Dems had taken the fig leaf--but the Dems couldn't--because Trump wore the Republican mantle and helping a Republican president do greater than he has even done would just help spread the idea that pragmatic Republicans can get things done.

It's clear from the stable of candidates, that they want to move onto the more ideological and visionary stuff. Fuck all those "pragmatism" half measures. I mean what use is an economy unless it can be redistributed ala Marx?!

I also believe that the Dems are planning on the side effect of this latest accusations of bribery, quid pro quo, etc. is to shut down his ability to work with or deal with foreign leaders. What foreign head of state wants to pick up the phone and have an honest discussion with Trump, knowing that one of the jerks listening in on the call is ready to run to the Democrats/Press with some kind of claim of nefarious discussion? That Trump will either be forced to publically disclose the call , which could potentially have the leaders own enemies clucking over it, or end up entangled in defending Trump?

They are pissed that he upset the cart with Ukraine, their own personal piggy bank, they are upset over the Paris accord, another potential money ATM when they get out of government. They don't like his ability to get meetings with NK, or interfering in Syria by moving out ISIS and not having six different wars going on at the same time.

They are hoping that even if they can't remove him, they can seriously gum up his ability to carry out his constitutional duties.

Of course you don't expect career people to break laws and rules and act like B-movie villains with laughable plots and idiocy like we've seen.

Hiring mistakes have been much higher, but almost certainly due to Trump being a true outsider, dependent at first on swamp-ish veterans. Preibus, Kelly [in both jobs], et al.

What he, and most of us, seem to have underestimated was the degree of degradation in ethics, professionalism, and patriotism - and practical intelligence - among the federal workforce, and the Beltway generally. And that was with a very harshly negative assessment.

237 Instead of trying to fire them through conventional channels, I would just start prosecuting them - for anything and everything - because I would have unlimited resources and no liability.

If they took a pencil home, the SWAT team would bust their door down at 3:00am. Pocketing a stapler would get you 20 years. They would have the choice of quitting or hiring a full time lawyer.

I'd just talk unofficially to them with a pyramid of skulls sitting on my desk. The lawyers representing the skulls I spoke with earlier would be in different pile. Truth would be the only possible way out - and even then, not a sure thing.

This is why I must go to confession so often.

Whoever conducts the personnel search for Trump could start here and at other pro-trump websites. Go back a few years to make sure the people being considered are true Trump loyalists. Then, invite those that seem good to apply on a secure website.

Use the information provided to sort everyone out, schedule interviews and make hiring offers.

One thing I hope Trump learned over the past 4 years is he sure a fuck isn't going to find anyone in Washington he can trust.

I can believe that. As a programmer, I find the left creating for themselves all sorts of "truth tables" to make immediate and full decisions with. Lack of compliance is punished by harassment from the Twitter and SJW crowd, the Demedia and the "experts".

I think this "programming" (akin to what Orwell labeled "doublethink") is why you observe the rapid shift in priorities and considerations and topics in the Upheavalists. It's bad for Trump to misuse his office for personal considerations (despite that's not completely 100% true), however, James Comey can lie to his superior precisely because Trump *was* the target of an investigation. And all these "Resisters" are right using their personal political opinions to flout the absolute authority of the President over the Executive branch.

They want to conserve "democracy" despite we have a "republic", and yet Nancy Pelosi says letting an election decide who continues as President is "dangerous" and the Chattering Class (on the Chatter Shows) promotes the self-appointed resisters in government as champions of "democracy" despite that the only person elected to the Executive branch is the person they are *resisting*.

They have a lot of squirrelly ideas. That don't hold water, but they commit to the path and won't be swayed by "Trump-cultists" (when they truly had more of a cult thing going for Obama)

It's the automation of ideas that doesn't allow them to see how analytical conclusions are reached that they can't take in anything that is actual.

That's what is overtaking the edge culture and the young. The rest that we humans find in "being certain" of things. They are fleeing ambiguity for the fixed.

274 I think the indictment of Trump re personnel is a bit harsh. He had no experience in DC, or in politics, and probably did not realize how profound the hatred for him was. The people he did know he knew in other capacities, not in government. It'd be like choosing people for rugby based on how well they golfed.

Imagine being parachuted into, say, the NYC real estate market, and had to fill hundreds of positions in a few months. You'd have to be the soul of perspicacity not to make a number of grievous errors.

His economic team has been stable, and mostly excellent. As noted above, obviously outsiders, like him, for the most part.

But it's not the Beltway alone that's handcuffed him. It's an electorate - esp. GOP voters - who tolerate/reward the Beltway GOP that has vetoed key elements of his agenda, and whose "independent"/Dem segments idiotically vote for Dems who laughably claim to want to "work with" Trump [see many of the '18 winners]

Trump has known since at least November of 2016 that the Obama administration was spying on him and using the intel agencies and State Dept to slime him with fake evidence. Nothing like this has ever happened before.

Reports are coming out then when his team went to their offices they found notes saying things like "You will fail" and "You aren't going to make it". He had to know he was surrounded by spies and enemies after his first two phone calls to world leaders were leaked almost before he put the phone down.

He met with nothing but intransigence and subversion from Day 1 with ginned up protests and fake news.

And somehow he managed to catch them while having one of the most successful 1st terms of any president in history.

By picking the people he's worked with in business over the last 40 years.

Most of the people Trump COULD hire are appointees to begin with. They don't have to be swamp creatures.

313 In about a year from now, the word will go out for the customary resignations.
Trump should task his CoS to take names over the next year as to which he should accept.

Way back when Trump said on the campaign trail that he knew more than the Generals about beating ISIS.

A lot of former military people thought that was a hoot. Wow, the arrogance.

I thought, at a macro level, he's right. The 4 stars in the military right now can't even SAY victory much less achieve it. They are stuck in "degrading enemy capability" mode.

Trump may not know the shipping weight of a combat brigade, but he knows more than a little about winning.

Somehow he has Nancy in a position where she either has to drive the clown car off the cliff and go forward with a doomed impeachment trial in the Senate where the Republicans will bring in all of their witnesses including Hunter Biden or she lights a fuse under her lunatic base and doesn't impeach.

Yet - numerous people totally on the outside looking in called it. It didn't take genius to figure out that not only the DC Establishment, but the Republican Establishment would look to take him out.

Trump's kinda' like Sessions. He assumed people would do what they were told, even if poorly. Bad mistake. That's not how people work at all.

So, he fucked up. He's still getting my vote in 2020. Hopefully he's learning.

I rate that as true.

Draining the Swamp is so far not measurable because of the lack of any convictions on the swamp side. However, I see Trump as making a lot of headway into exposing the swamp to the American people. And I believe that the demonstration shows itself in his numbers going up.

It's kind of like the swamp is still there, but Trump is making a lot of headway in cutting down all the swamp trees to bring sunlight in. More and more corruption comes to the surface *every single day*.

There is no way in the world that he could have predicted that it would go that way.

But I do think he is good at setting the table for the conditions of victory and as Scott Adams says setting it up so he wins regardless of outcome.

So, I DO think he forced Nancy to have the House vote for impeachment proceedings (that she didn't want to do) and then havethem do hearings in the open AND he is pushing for a real live trial in the Senate.

He failed to understand the left wing of today. He's learned that lesson now. The problem is getting rid of these people and then bringing people new loyal people in who know enough.

I'd argue we don't need a Vindman to be "knowledgeable" on the Ukraine. Trump's instincts are far more valuable, and often ... its not that complicated... especially with America First.

If Trump did "clean house" and replace people.. the Never Trumpers would be screaming of how these replacements have no experience.... so screw them.

Meanwhile, Trump is working on flipping MN, WI, and MI without them knowing and the Dem spies are telling Hillary Trump is really worried he could lose AZ and GA!!!

And how did the intelligence community follow up when it was revealed they got their asses kicked?

Well, some people around here do get a bit aroused by criticism of DJT. I guess my biggest two complaints would be that the borders aren't secure yet, and that the wild spending, debt-accumulation, QE and ZIRP are still going full blast.

I know that these things are not entirely under his control, and that there are severe limits to what any president can do.

I'm especially grateful for his evident love of America, his fearlessness in speaking his mind (which we all can learn from,) his general conservatism, and our strong labor market. He really has justified my 2016 vote for him, and I will vote for him in 2020, even if he's impeached (which is very very unlikely IMHO.)

I loved NASCAR from about '95 to whenever The Chase started. My son was a toddler and had trouble falling asleep, was flipping channels one November night, stopped on a race and he stopped in his tracks and started naming off all the cars - McDonalds car! Chicken car! etc etc then he'd watch for awhile and fall asleep, meanwhile 3 hours later...

Became a nightly ritual since ESPN was rerunning the whole season and I got hooked. First race we saw was Ward Burton's first win at Rockingham. Guy needed subtitles, he was great.

Without Republican buy in in the form of a single vote, she's got cover. With knowledge that the Senate won't convict, she's got cover. With the primary schedule actually starting to record votes, she's got cover.

In today's speed cycle of news, impeachment will largely be forgotten in a few weeks, replaced by the newest awful thing Trump tweeted about while he was taking a dump.

Any retributions against Nancy in the party will be first deflected towards Schiff and then depend on how the primary and general election go.

That's the way they vote in Washington. I don't think that's what the framers intended, but that's the way they seem to vote. They don't hold a vote until the side in control has the votes to win--or lose on something they only want to appear to be for, like Pubbies.

I think Nancy thinks she's backed into a corner, and right now she might be thinking the only way for her to be continued as speaker is *if* the Dems win back the house and *if* she keeps her party happy by letting the kids play Impeachment. She probably has some idea that the House may be lost, so it doesn't matter one way or the other. Might as well throw the Hail Mary.

468 OK, so right from the start it appeared that the dems were trying to follow the watergate playbook. In that case, Nixon was impeached for essentially doing exactly what past dems had done. THe problem is that it was illegal. That meant there was a cover up. Throw in some bad luck, a bad war, and a bad economy and the impeachment worked.

In fact, it worked so well that the Repubs - who were sitting pretty when N got elected - were in the outs for ... well until the idiot nut farmer reminded the world what dems are all about.

NASCAR started dying when they went to the adjustable track bar and radial tires.

Bias-ply tires weren't consistent from set to set, which introduced variability, which increased passing. The adjustable track bar makes cars capable of more consistency over varying track temps - which reduces variability and reduces passing. And increasing aero has screwed the series with the dreaded aero-push.

Common bodies, chassis, and engines will only make it worse. They need to run a narrower tire. Not harder - narrower. Don't believe me - believe David Pearson.

503 Watergate succeeded for the dems on a few pivotal points. First the bad state of the union, but also that Nixon was a very suspicious character. Also the damn 18 minutes of missing tape - that was a very big deal at the time and although meaningless as proof it convinced a lot of people that guilt was possible.

But the main reason Watergate succeeded for the dems is that the public never knew that "deep throat" was really a disgruntled asshole deep state operative who was pissed for being passed over in Nixons attempt to clean up - or at least neutralize - that one department.

Had the world known who deep throat was, I am convinced the impeachment would have failed. I think most of DC understands this as well (for those who even know any of the history and who are not partisan hacks - so no one.)

The reason they wanted the "whistleblower" as a secret is that they wanted him to be the deep throat in their farcical revival of watergate.

I've said before, they pushed hard to make the sport "accessible" to non-racing fans and wound up driving the real fans away. They should've just left it alone to grow organically at its own pace, but nooooo...

I'm of two minds on a Senate trial.

I'd love to see the Senate turn down a removal process. Saying that the House can decide to Impeach as it pleases and the Senate can remove as it pleases. The location of the Impeachment power in the House was a limitation of the Senate's power to remove --why would that then create an onus to try not to continue with the elected president? Tell me that was a worry of the founders? That the Senate would just "abuse their powers" by letting the President continue as President.

But I'd also like to see a thorough flaying of this whole mess to the bone in an extended Senate trial, and ridicules the Democrats for their premise of Impeachment.

519 I've deleted Drudge from my constant reads. What the fuck happened, did PDT kick his dog or something?

Someone said the other day that he sold the site to some company based out of China.

AoSHQ needs a FAQ.

Drudge sold his dad's company--which his site depended on--to an affiliate of Google. People cite that he gave an interview saying that fans of Drudge were not going to like what they saw on Drudge in the future, but his hands were tied and tied to the extent that he couldn't say much more than an apology. It's like he didn't know how much the buyers would demand in the future.

A lot of people no longer bother with that site.

French reporter: But Emperor, you were driven back to France & lost 500,000 soldiers

Napoleon: Well, the Russians didn't engage us in open battle & they burned Moscow. But we totally conquered Russia.

IMHO It was a big mistake. I would have let the whole thing play out an defended myself along the way.

Nixon is a weirdly sympathetic figure because he made his bones going after that commie turd, Alger Hiss, but he wasn't a conservative at all and mostly an economic retard.

528 'their complaint that "Trump's supporters never criticize him."'

That's because I know if I reasonably say, "Of course I don't agree 100% of the time with Trump on every little thing..." (just as I don't agree 100% with any other human being on everything) I will immediately get from any lefty in the vicinity AHA! SO YOU ADMIT HE'S A DESPICABLE RACIST BIGOTED DISGUSTING ORANGE THING WHO MUST BE REMOVED FROM OFFICE RIGHT NOW! Until the other side is reasonable, ha ha ha, I will not argue with them about his merits or concede any failing he may have.

===============================
In large part, successful people in the private sector want to live their lives without a lot of stress and scrutiny once they arrive at home sweet home. Anyone signing on with the Trump Administration receives the Eye of Sauron treatment: Lies, constant harassment from the MSM, Dark State machinations, hearings, protestors in one's driveway, every service provider looking for their SJW halo giving one the finger. Who wants that? We debt of gratitude to all of those who work faithfully for the President.

534 Some expressions regarding the snakes sound Trump:

Keep your friends close, your enemies closer.

When your enemy is digging himself a hole, give him a shovel.

Give them enough rope to hang themselves.

I believe Trump has been playing a long game sting and it's about to cause pain for the whole pit of deep state vipers.

I could be wrong, but I don't think so...

Only because the Squad just got there and no one has taken them into the secret chamber and explained to them that a trial in the Senate will expose the DNC using Ukraine to interfere in the 2016 elections along with how they grifted the tax payers out of a lot of sweet laundered cash using Soros cutouts...

538 Maybe Trump's personnel problem is his experience in real estate and the real world in general. When you buy a building or a golf course you don't clean house. Maybe you have someone lined up for the top job, but you don't fire the guys mowing the greens or the servers in the restaurant. Those folks know (well, most of them) that if the course isn't kept up or the food's not good they will be out of a job. In government, when new management comes in, and it's from your competition (keeping in mind there's only two companies) it's in your best interest to totally screw things up so your competition loses and your company gets to take over again.

Trump didn't realize this - that the people running the business he acquired would actively work against him as opposed to just doing the job.

This is all theory and speculation, of course. But it could explain why he left these people in place.

539 I warned about this from day one, and it was based on personal experience I had with local politics:

A very nice lady won the seat for state education secretary in AZ. I met her in person, and she was "one of us:" she got it and her heart was in the right place.

But she knew nothing about the bureaucracy or how it functions. She knew nothing about the powers of her office or its limitations. The Deep Staters ended up running circles around her, until she finally got kicked out of office without accomplishing much.

What I realized then was that a reformer must have both the determination AND the skills to be effective. This is the problem with most outsiders.
It's amazing Trump has done as well as he has so far, given all the people stabbing him in the back.
