110 I find many of the figures in Bellini's paintings to be a bit stiff. Not uncommon for the period. But his ability to use color, whether brilliant or muted, and the level of detail used (look at this figure's cloak) makes him stand out. While it doesn't apply to this work, Bellini can portray an effective sense of proportion and distance.

113 Okay over 100 Imma pull this up from being willowed:

All these Ukraine experts are going up there and saying "I have never heard such a thing!" or "that's a conspiracy theory!" yet it was in the New York Times (!) that:

Two Ukrainian officials meddled in the 2016 U.S. presidential election by leaking a secret ledger showing $12.7 million in payments between Ukraine's ousted pro-Russian President Viktor Yanukovych and Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, a Ukrainian court said Wednesday.

The Kyiv district court ruled that National Anti-Corruption Bureau Director Artem Sytnyk and legislator Serhiy Leshchenko broke the law by revealing that Manafort's name and signature appeared on the ledger.

But I thought I heard that there was no occurrence of a phone call with Sondman alone and that the call he was referencing was a group call or some such thing and others on the call basically said Nah Bro no QPQ.
So what's the deal with Sondman's "Bombshell" is this another one of those things where words are said to him and he assumes QPQ despite the words being no QPQ?

The Democratic Party leadership is willing to sacrifice lemmings and backbenchers for real policy gains like the ACA.

The problem is that an impeachment vote gets them nothing but allowing the media to add another unpleasant adjective to Trump's name whenever they talk about him.

That's small beans and probably not worth completely tossing your majority in the House for.

Some highlights:

"The changing demographics of our country suggest that once out-of-reach Sun Belt states as Arizona and Texas are now within range of Democratic victory.

and this:

"Here in Georgia, our rapidly diversifying population includes the youngest and most heavily African American population of any battleground state.....Among newcomers to the state, who are many, Democrats outperform Republicans by a 30-point margin."

Then she goes on to say the majority of people in Georgia support abortion, which I believe to be an outright lie.

And she whines about "voter suppression" because our Sec. of State is cleaning out the voter rolls of dead and inactive voters.

Then, she finishes with this:

"I advocated strongly for a Democratic debate to come to Georgia because this is where the fight for our nation will be lost and won, and I am confident the eventual ticket will have Georgia on its mind."

384 "Am I supposed to know who this guy is? And why he's dressed so ridiculously?" As others have noted, Leonardo Loredan was the 75th doge of Venice, serving between 1501 and 1521. The "ridiculous" headpiece was the corno, or crown, worn by the doge as a symbol of his office. It was made of cotton, which, in those days, was a rare and expensive fabric. Loredan was not a great doge, and the period of his rule was marked by the Wars of the League of Cambrai, one of the low points in Venice's history.

Speaking of art history, John Julius Norwich, in his History of Venice (which is a terrific read), tells a story about the painter Gentile Bellini, Giovanni's younger brother. It seems that Gentile was hired to serve as court painter to the court of the Turkish sulvan Mehmet II. One day, Mehmet criticized Gentile's painting of the beheading of John the Baptist: he claimed that the beheading was rendered inaccurately; and to demonstrate his point, Mehmet had a slave seized and beheaded on the spot, to demonstrate what a beheading really looked like. Art, like politics, was a rougher business in those days.

I think it's a bit worse. If you look at the background of these people and hear their testimony it's obvious they are far left operatives.

Fiona Hill used to be on Soros' payroll. She is not the "non-partisan" she pretends to be and neither are most of the rest of them. They are a shadow government that believes it, not the duly elected representative of the people, are the people who run our foreign policy.

Thank you for that - now I see, the analysis is based on the video evidence. Of course the Israeli's have worked on their jamming technology, but there's also other explanations. In previous conflicts, it's been reported that the Syrian operators of these systems shut down their radar guidance systems immediately after launch, to keep from getting hit by return HARM fire; in other cases, the Syrians have been known to never turn their guidance radars on at all, preferring to instead just to look good by shooting off missiles, and then blaming faulty missiles when they go every which way.

A mere half-century later, of course, we have those big well-stocked stores even in smallville, including the wallymart, which may have more sq ft than the original downtown area.

534 I do not care what Stacy Abrams thinks, Georgia will have to beat LSU to get in the playoffs.

535 The British hadn't built a brewery yet. Same deal in
China. It took the German's to teach the East how to brew beer. There
is plenty of beer throughout the near and far east now that civilization
was seeded in those nasty heathen hell holes.

yeah, I don't think many Americans appreciate how much beer is brewed and consumed abroad. I am nut sure about India though I know they make brands like taj Mahal. But China drinks a crap load of beer. I would not be surprised if they drank more beer than any other country. The russians drink a lot as well, I was going to swear but let it go. People don't realize how much beer the Russians drink. Europe is the same. You think many of these countries are drinking wine,. But even in France and Spain, they mainly drink a ton of beer in bars.

It tells you a lot about Jeff Flake to know that he "retired" because polls showed him with less than 20% support in his home state, Arizona.

538 532 Stacy Abrams is right about one thing. TX is about one or two elections away of going blue.

I disagree. It's all about recruiting and supporting good candidates, which is where the Kentucky and La. governor's races went wrong. Governor Abbott wins in Texas in large part because he has a strong outreach and support among the Hispanic community, especially the devout Catholics. (see the bio of Cecile Abbott) Strong statewide GOP candidates in Texas will need that appeal, they can't just be Anglo only, but Abbott shows that it's possible. In fact, he makes it look easy.

540 In Texas, the racial calculus of elections is something people feel nervous about talking about, but it controls everything. What successful GOP candidates statewide put together has been, for the last several elections, about 80% of the Anglo vote, and 40% of the Hispanic vote. That is enough to add up to around 55% - 60% of the total vote, and if a candidate gets that, then the black vote becomes irrelevant.

Posted by: Tom Servo at November 21, 2019 11:14 AM (Kpl3J)

541 To be clear, i was talking total consumption, not per capita. We all know the Czechs, Hungarians, Germans, and English drink the most beer per capita. But what I learned by traveling is the beer drinking world is much larger than you would expect. I wanted to find sherry drinker in Spain but mainly found cheap beer drinkers. I wanted the French to drink red wine all the time. Maybe they do drink wine with meals, but at bars, they drink a lot of beer.

The hottest micro beer country in Western Europe is Italy of all places. Of course they drink wine, but they drink a lot of beer too. And they are making world class micro beers unlike the French and the Spanish.

there was a time when a Texas Latino or Tejano was much more culturally conservative than a Californian or New York Latino. I think that is not as true as it once was. In fact I am sure of it. They are not the same but the difference is not as large as it was in the 70s and 80s.

Posted by: Quint at November 21, 2019 11:20 AM (n13/j)

544 And i would say Texas was more integrated with hispanics and anglos mixing and living around each other.

Born in Cuba. Home is here in the USA and my kids are safe from the indoctrination of the left because I've made sure that they know all about their lies. They are not RINOs either.

Private companies that can land rockets on their tails and then refly them, just like God and Robert Heinlein intended!

Funny how the smartphone was never anticipated in sci-fi, but early sci-fi had tail-sitter rockets galore, until everybody grew up and assumed that it was impossible. Not to mention building rockets like ships in a shipyard (yet to be fully proven)!

550 thanks for the Bellini; his work is awesome. When you're in NYC go to the Frick and see the finest example of his work in this hemisphere: St. Francis in Ecstasy. Beautiful depiction of a man caught in a sudden direct experience of God. The force of it makes him lean backwards.

551 "I'm not an IPA fan but I understand that lots of fellow craft beer fans
feel otherwise. That's ok because there are plenty of alternative
styles I like better. It's a great time to be a beer drinker."

Yes, this is a great time for beer - and wine, too. I don't like those IPAs that are throat-clutchingly hoppy. But a mild IPA is delightful to have with Indonesian food. My wife make sate, which is meat cubed and marinated in a combination of sweet soy sauce and lime juice, then grilled on skewers. It's served with a hot peanut sauce and coconut rice, and a cucumber salad made with rice vinegar. You get the sweet, sour, and hot flavors; and the bitter of a mild IPA washes it all down beautifully. Man, I can hardly wait for summer to return, so I can start grilling again!
