Jon Solomon: Hunter Biden Lobbied Obama's State Department to Lay Off Pressure for Political and Economic Reforms In Ukraine

Nothing to see here, folks. Move on.

Hunter Biden and his Ukrainian gas firm colleagues had multiple contacts with the Obama State Department during the 2016 election cycle, including one just a month before Vice President Joe Biden forced Ukraine to fire the prosecutor investigating his son’s company for corruption, newly released memos show.

During that February 2016 contact, a U.S. representative for Burisma Holdings sought a meeting with Undersecretary of State Catherine A. Novelli to discuss ending the corruption allegations against the Ukrainian firm where Hunter Biden worked as a board member, according to memos obtained under a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit. (I filed that suit this summer with the help of the public interest law firm the Southeastern Legal Foundation.)

Just three weeks before Burisma's overture to State, Ukrainian authorities raided the home of the oligarch who owned the gas firm and employed Hunter Biden, a signal the long-running corruption probe was escalating in the middle of the U.S. presidential election.

Hunter Biden’s name, in fact, was specifically invoked by the Burisma representative as a reason the State Department should help, according to a series of email exchanges among U.S. officials trying to arrange the meeting. The subject line for the email exchanges read simply "Burisma."

"Per our conversation, Karen Tramontano of Blue Star Strategies requested a meeting to discuss with U/S Novelli USG remarks alleging Burisma (Ukrainian energy company) of corruption," a Feb. 24, 2016, email between State officials read. "She noted that two high profile U.S. citizens are affiliated with the company (including Hunter Biden as a board member).["]

It's a little more direct than that. Under Obama/Biden, US tax dollars went directly to oil and gas companies in Ukraine including Burisma. Burisma in turn sent money back to Democrat politicians in the form of campaign contributions.

If you want to know how obvious the fraud was one of the people who got a big check from Burisma (through channels of course) was Sen. Ed Markey of MA. Also known as the author of the New Green Deal.

He wants the US to cripple our oil and gas industry but he pushed the Obama administration to give even more money to Burisma.

==========

I always go back to the fact that Iron Man was a character that no one cared about until the late 00s movie came out when it made all the monies.

And now Marvel is a trusted brand.

Predicting smoking wreckage on any of these new Marvel movies seems unwise.

Ace had the type nailed, in his epic post about the Never Trumpers 2 or more years ago. They bet wrong, and for some of them, they just had two much pride to ever walk back a bad bet - or admit that people they didn't respect were smarter than they were.

The real stupidity, which come out in Tom Nichols whining tweets, is that they never foresaw that they would be left on a little island all by themselves, with everyone else on both sides of the political divide despising them. Max Boot is one who seems desperate to try to get the Progs to like him, and who is dismayed to find that no matter what he does to suck up to them, it can never be enough.

I think it's a combination of factors. Pride and inability to admit they were wrong about something is one of them. Another is a yearning for social acceptance. They mostly live in NY or DC and want to get invited to parties. They want to be able to say, "Well yes, I'm conservative, but I'm not one of thoooosee people..."

Also, in terms of their actual viewpoints a lot of them were never really conservative to begin with. Either that or they defined "conservatism" as supporting Middle Eastern wars and outsourcing jobs to China.

Next time, don't bother with the economics. Just state a simple fact and see how he takes it: Trump International - which Donald Trump no longer owns, by the way - cuts a check to the US Treasury for all profits from foreign dignitaries at any of their properties. This is not required, they do so simply due to the potential appearance of a conflict-of-interest.

Oh they might be able to pull it off, but Iron Man was actually an established character, people had heard of him. There was a really popular song about him. He was kind of iconic in that he was the first real power armor character. The Eternals? I've been a comic book fan since the late 70s and I barely know anything about them other than being a cheap knockoff of Greek and Roman gods. That's just it. If you listen to the scuttlebutt of the Dems, enough of them have internalized Schiff's "parody" that Trump is asking them to make up dirt on Biden.

But why would the country whose official findings Joe claims "clears" him and his son, be such a threat to "make up dirt" when Trump simply encourages them to investigate.

There is little answer despite that Trump's "crimes" must be pursued by the potential to do wrong. Meanwhile, you can't complain about Obama unless you have definite proof that despite the potential for abuse--he did what can't be denied by spin.

Trump asked Ukraine to (continue to) investigate the Biden documented quid-pro-quo. Sure, it has the potential to serve as an invitation to please Trump by manufacturing dirt--but that's not what Trump asked for. Which is why they want to see "the complete transcript" because just like they were sure the walls were closing in and the wheels were coming off. They are sure that there is something more incriminating in the "left out" parts of the transcripts.

When they redacted the FISA warrant application, the libs were all like "Yeah, they redact things--don't ask for more unless you're Putin's puppets!" However, they complain that part of the transcript was redacted , and complain that they don't know for a fact that this was all that was on the transcript.

It is the duplicity of the two-standard approach that will eat away like water on limestone of Dem credibility.

317 247 I always go back to the fact that Iron Man was a character that no one cared about until the late 00s movie came out when it made all the monies.

Second generation, even, since the Second World stuff Kirby did for DC.

DC: "Our movies need to be dark, edgy, realistic, and relate to current events."

Here's another thing: I don't think Iron Man is actually very good.

There's the idea of the story, and the actual story. The actual story is staccato and doesn't really connect. Tony doesn't retreat from the world to become a hero. He retreats to play with his toys and then suddenly decides to become a hero while watching the news.

RDJ is charming as hell and papers over a lot of that, but the movie doesn't hold together that well.

So, I fully imagine Eternals being charming but messy and winning over audience hearts.

391 I keep hearing that Iron Man succeeded because of execution, and that there's no way that Eternals could replicate that.

But we've seen nothing of Eternals except a logo. We don't know about the execution.

I'm not exactly some sort of fanboi. I think the whole MCU is a hugely mixed bag with a surprising number of bad movies in it, but Feige has obviously found a way to tap into a zeitgeist and I don't think it's wise to bet against him at this point.

Hell, Captain Marvel made over a billion dollars.

I fully expect the next crop to be making at least $750 million per movie.
Posted by: TheJamesMadison, Just All about the Billy Wilder movies at November 05, 2019 01:52 PM (q80AH)

I think there's something to be said for the fact that the Marvel Movies in the last couple of years function more like 2 hour episodes of a giant TV show that you have to watch in the theater.

If you've become invested in the story they've been telling since the first Avengers, chances are you want to see how it was going to end. So even if an individual episode wasn't your favorite, you were still probably going to see all or most of them, because you wanted to get the whole story.

I think Endgame sort of finished that. The season finished and the next season is starting. It remains to be seen that they can just continue the formula with less popular characters pulling the weight for another epic arc without the big names as the backbone. If people have been feeling superhero burnout (and I think a lot are), they might have toughed it out through Endgame, but I don't know how many are going to pick it up.

If I were to bet, I'd say that like a TV show that got renewed for seasons after it should have run it's course, the Marvel movies are going to peter out over the next few years.
