The Morning Rant

talking ape.jpg

"The problem with progressivism is that nobody (or too few to matter) can see what is happening until it's too late. What's happening in California right now, with the main NorCal energy utility having to shut off power to a number of counties due to safety concerns, didn't just happen overnight, but came about through years, decades, of progressive mismanagement, misplaced progressive priorities, and progressive corruption.

"Not to mention the festering, disease-ridden homeless encampments in LA and San Francisco.

"And this is all on the Democrats. The GOP has not held significant power in the state for years, if not decades. It's been like the drip, drip, drip of stalactites forming in a cave and only now are people saying, hey, look at our ceiling, where'd all those stalactites come from?

"So my question is, what is it going to take in order for the Democrats to get voted out of office in California?"

FBI Lovebirds: Undercovers

This is a stage play "written" by Phelim McAleer (who is also responsible for the Gosnell movie), and I use written in quotes because it's some of the actual text messages written by Peter Strzok and Lisa Page (who were having an affair), read more or less verbatim by actors Dean Cain and Kristy Swanson.

Strzok called the Russian collusion hoax "an insurance policy" in case Trump won the election.

It is about 80 minutes in length. Politico called it "Hamilton for the MAGA crowd."

Friday's celebs: As many of you corrected guessed, I was running a brother/sister combo theme all last week. The woman is Shirley MacLaine, a decent actress, if a bit on the loony side, and also her brother, Warren Beatty, who is known chiefly for being such a big-time poon hound that he used to get fan mail from Captain Kirk.

Until they fail, and fail hard, they will keep electing Democrats.

Right. In a vacuum like has developed in CA, I don't see a good opposition alternative. I fear the progression is:
1) Create a monolithic one-party state
2) That party starts fowling up slowly.
3) Eventually, the badness accumulates into serious, persistent, systemic problems.
4) The political monoculture has no real opposition, and so goes unchecked
5) Some people see a problem but cannot finger the source, and so begin leaving for greener pastures. Too often, however, they bring the rot with them because they don't fathom the causality because of the slow burn leading up to the failure.
6) More extreme versions of the monoculture displace the less extreme versions, repeatedly raising the stakes and doubling down on failure
7) Exodus intensifies, resulting in more extreme knock-on effects in neighboring regions
Continued regression and eventual collapse
9) If everyone involved is very lucky, the monoculture is shattered and recovery can begin after plumbing previously unconsidered depths.

CA (and the Interior West) is at step 6. The rest of the Interior West will be lost as we move into step 7, as CA has a nearly inexhaustible reserve of people when viewed in the context of the populations of the rest of the region. They can overrun basically everyone.

CO is gone. NM is probably gone. ID will probably be gone within five years. AZ will be gone within 5 years at the outside, probably sooner. WY and OK will probably survive, only because they're unpopular, though OK may be at risk if insane cities like Tulsa keep actively courting migrants from CA. TX might fail but is so huge that it might survive. TX odds are probably better than a coin flip, but not by much.

I think the electoral vote outlook in the Interior West is damned bad. Republican resurgence in the Midwest, Upper Midwest and Upper South might be able to check it.

122 I'm sure there was plenty of mismanagement/misallocation of resources with PG&E, but there's a lot of ruin in any utility company.

The proximate cause of this rolling blackout stuff is the state legal system putting PG&E on the hook for all wildfire damages (or potentially so). As far as I can tell, it's not really that PG&E spent too much on wind mills or solar panels as opposed to another coal power plant or whatever.

I mean sure, in retrospect, probably PG&E should have spent more directly bribing California legislators to get their wildfire liability capped, but expenditures on solar and "renewables" were similarly intended to buy goodwill as direct bribes they just didn't work as intended.

I forgot about MT. ID (Boise) is a huge target from WA. WA is less far along than CA, so some of the exodus are probably republicans but ID has such a small population that it's pretty easy to overrun it. The loss of reps in the source states are easily overcome but the gain in senators from the flip states.

CA flipped CO. I suspect that after the census, CO is going to pick up a rep and CA will lose one. When that happens, CA will have lost one electoral vote but the Dems will have picked up *ten* in CO on a permanent basis.

So, I have a Facebook friend I met in Italy. He's British and moved back to GB. He's very much a Remainer, and the little bit of stuff I see from him makes me giggle.

During the big broohaha, it was all, "We're going to be in a depression for ten years."

Now, it's all, "British citizens with homes in Spain are going to be inconvenienced by owned homes in two countries!"

It's upper-middle class inconveniences that seem to be driving his disdain for Brexit. I find that amusing.

WY and OK will probably survive, only because they're unpopular, though OK may be at risk if insane cities like Tulsa keep actively courting migrants from CA. TX might fail but is so huge that it might survive. TX odds are probably better than a coin flip, but not by much.

190 Thoughts about California, and the rest of the states that are nearing/already at financial bankruptcy:

These states keep borrowing money (no it's not borrowed money, it's bonds!) and spending it on useless frivolous stuff, then borrowing more and renegotiating & extending their repayment plans into the future indefinitely. Because the money for the repayment is backed by tax revenues, bond houses keep supplying them with more money.

This really is a junkie and his fix situation, and the fix is backed by government. Not at all surprising the leftist paradises like CA are also supporting actual junkies and their fixes.

At some point the bankrupt states are going to demand a federal bailout. If they get it, it's game over, the US $ can't keep taking hits and getting devalued to the point of worthlessness.

States are going to have to be permitted to declare bankruptcy and eliminate their debts, and cut loose the bond houses and grifters.

It is apparently human nature to want a free lunch and the entire democrat party is now devoted to that concept.

227 190 At some point the bankrupt states are going to demand a federal
bailout. If they get it, it's game over, the US $ can't keep taking hits
and getting devalued to the point of worthlessness.

States are going to have to be permitted to declare bankruptcy and
eliminate their debts, and cut loose the bond houses and grifters.

It is apparently human nature to want a free lunch and the entire democrat party is now devoted to that concept.

I mentioned on the book thread back in April:

The Fall of Wisconsin: The Conservative Conquest of a Progressive Bastion and the Future of American Politics:

"The Fall of Wisconsin is a deeply reported, searing account of how the state's progressive tradition was undone and Wisconsin itself turned into a laboratory for national conservatives bent on remaking the country. Neither sentimental nor despairing, the book tells the story of the systematic dismantling of laws protecting the environment, labor unions, voting rights, and public education through the remarkable battles of ordinary citizens fighting to reclaim Wisconsin's progressive legacy."

289 California was essentially a Midwestern colony for much of its existence, so absent mass immigration, California would probably trend back towards the GOP as its population ages, in much the same manner as Midwest states like Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, etc. But there's just no way to overcome the importation hundreds of thousands of new Dem voters each year. Don't say Pete Wilson didn't warn you.

It's not just the illegal aliens, it's the weather. It's our blessing, it's our curse. Notice that North Dakota doesn't have our problem with vagrants, leftist vermin, and other scum.

291 Boy that Steve Kerr is a helluva guy aint he?

Brings up multiple different issues in this country, insinuates that AR-15 owners are mass killers, mentions that he wasn't asked uncomfortable questions over there, says we all have issues to address, and let's not bring them all up.
Oh, and it's his right to say all this as an American.

He's right.

He's a helluva guy, ain't he?

293 What that change would be, I do not know, but a federal government refusing to bail out California because of its profligacy could lead to serious structural changes in California that could bring about some sanity.

We'll hear the endless BS line about how California and other deep blue states send more money to the feds than they get back, and how indispensable CA is to the health of the nation.

And the GOPe will parrot that tune while pretending to care so much about deficit spendin.

294 The truth will make you free ... light dispels darkness ... the whole Red Pill concept. Our government has funded the cocaine of socialist nirvana, and everything is paid for by invisible/infinite debt ... for now.

In my lighter moods - which are rare, but do occur - I hope for what would in effect be a deus ex machina solution. Something that blows the lid off of the entire Democrat Party, and reveals beyond any dispute their breathtaking perfidy.

I live in hope that Barr and/or Durham comes up with the smoking gun that has this effect.

Yeah, I'm a dreamer.

Maybe, but for sure it would lead the pustule to burst and spread leftists all over the country. It'd look like the break in billiards. And they wouldn't go back to the liberal hellholes they came from. No, they'd look for fresh hosts. We need to do something about that.

Hope is normal. I also hope I will win the lottery, and be able to build my own volcano lair some day.

As long as you don't expect your hopes to materialize, you're being realistic.

The CNN-listeners in California and quite a few of the appartchiks will have to lose faith in the Democrats and MFM for that to happen. Learning what their unwavering support is actually enabling could do that. (Epstein Island being a tiny, but powerful example)

"Hope springs eternal in every human breast" --Alexander Pope

I am as cynical as any here, but to embrace defeat is certain loss. I occasionally quote Stan Rogers 'Mary Ellen Carter' lyrics:

And you, to whom adversity has dealt the final blow
With smiling bastards lying to you everywhere you go
Turn to, and put out all your strength of arm and heart and brain
And like the Mary Ellen Carter, rise again

Rise again, rise again!
Though your heart it be broken and life about to end
No matter what you've lost, be it a home, a love, a friend
Then like the Mary Ellen Carter, rise again!

301 Writing off Montana? C'mon. Both legislative houses are Republican, ALL high state offices are Republican except the Gov and Lt. Gov, state constitution requires a balanced budget, two of three US legislators are Republican, still have the least restrictive gun laws in the US. We're doing fine. For now.
