Report on LA's elections from a local: They were an absolute bloodbath for the donks. Conservatives managed a supermajority in the state senate and may wind up with a functional one in the runoff. JBE markedly outperformed relative to the rest of the dems thanks to Rispone spending almost as much time attacking Abraham as Edwards and the local media actively suppressing any bad news, allowing him to portray himself as a quasi-conservative. If Rispone can unify the party behind him (not an easy task, because he pissed off most of the rest of the party and most of Northern LA by attacking Abraham something the party begged him to not do) he should beat Edwards. Big IF there. Saying some conservative locals have a reflexive revulsion to him is an understatement.

From the London Wiki: Wapping's proximity to the river gave it a strong maritime character for centuries, well into the 20th century. It was inhabited by sailors, mastmakers, boat-builders, blockmakers, instrument-makers, victuallers and representatives of all the other trades that supported the seafarer. Wapping was also the site of 'Execution Dock', where pirates and other water-borne criminals faced execution by hanging from a gibbet constructed close to the low water mark. Their bodies would be left dangling until they had been submerged three times by the tide. So, birthplace of dunking booths? Just as an anecdote that might cheer Hadrian up a minuscule amount:
I got a buddy who was a high school teacher all his life. Got laid off, subbed around for a while, but the sub gigs all dried up. No one would hire him because he's 60+. He was super bummed because all he ever wanted to be was a teacher, and couldn't land a gig doing that anymore. Finally, he went to a temp agency and got placed in a call center doing tech support. Not glamorous, but hey, money is money. Now, less than a year in, he's on track to have a higher up position with the parent company soon in training, which is basically.... teaching. Today is the 129th anniversary of the birth of American general and 34th president of these United States Dwight David Eisenhower (1890-1969).
Born in Dennison, Texas, Eisenhower graduated from West Point and had a rapid rise as a military commander during World War II. In 1942, he was the chief of Army operations in Washington, but within a year, he had become the supreme commander of the Allied Expeditionary Force and led the Normandy invasion in June 1944. He served as the president of Columbia University from 1948 to 1950 but returned to the colors to head Allied forces in Europe until 1952, when he resigned to run for President on the Republican ticket. "In preparing for battle I have always found that plans are useless, but planning is indispensable." - Dwight D. Columbus Day. Howd did it get here.??? As far as explorers go he was actually pretty minor and dint really discover crap.... There were other explorers with a significantly higher impact on History that didnot get their own National Holiday. Turns out Columbus is another SJW made up Holiday. Seems that the turn of the 20th Century Social Justice Warriors wanted to give a sop to all of the Italian immigrants flooding into the country to make them feel like a part of the community and that citizens here could recognize Italian contributions and identify with their new Italian neighbors. So.... they picked Columbus and lobbied to make Columbus Day a national holiday to make the new Italians feel more integral and welcomed in their new land. Its wasnt white mans thirst for colonialism that resulted in Columbus getting his own day. It was feel goodisms by the SJW crowd of its day. 355 Regarding the collapse of the hotel construction in Gnaw-luns: That building used to be a Woolworth's. Funny how, even here, they managed to construct buildings that lasted for half a century (see the Times-Picayune tower on Howard Avenue) and are so well-built they are hard to demolish . . . but nowadays buildings fall apart before you even finish them.
Cut-rate labor and building practices, methinks? Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius at October 14, 2019 11:08 AM (ClOmq) Few years ago I worked on a renovation of a Woolworth's building that was designated a historic structure. It was only 2 years older than I was - boy does that sure make you feel old. Also the new building owners kept telling me it was bomb shelter so the floors were strong enough to do anything they wanted to on them. Walked into the door during my first visit and saw the signs saying it was a designated fallout shelter. I had great fun explaining that fallout was dust so not even close to being a bomb shelter. You sure nailed it there. I watched HISD (Houston's school district) tear down probably the newest building in its inventory, Sharpstown High School 1969. That building used to have those black and yellow bomb shelter signs on it but they were removed because "scary". The glass and tilt wall $65 million replacement took half as long to build as the destruction of the original. And built to accommodate 2/3 of the capacity of the old one. I actually liked Rose in Star Wars, at least I thought she had some great moments... that were totally eclipsed by the incredibly horrible writing and directing that can only be considered a sin against humanity itself... I could see the potential and it made me sad that it was all such a train wreck. And 'shipping her and Fen? WTF? It really means something, I think, when the "woke" star wars turns the budding friendship and connection between the white-girl star and the black stormtrooper into an afterthought, turns him into comic relief and 'ships him with the "everygirl" also-ethnic character, sends them on a mission that could be heroic and is, instead, angsty and stupid and pointless, all so she can spout some emotional social condemnation of rich people. The only good outcome of which was the poor little slave boy moving the broom. Posted by: Synova at October 14, 2019 11:26 AM (BD/yx) 435

The California Shampoo bottle bill is just like the shopping bag ban, except we didn't get to "vote" on it. I've brought this up before, and it may seem like a small thing. The bag ban was a ballot initiative. Supposedly we "voted" to prohibit stores from giving away plastic bags because ecology. The bill took effect the day after the election. The day after. And somehow, that morning the stores were all set to go. No more freebies, and the new ten cent a pop bags were all printed and in stock. I wonder how they knew the bill would pass?
