NPC Critics Hail "Rambo: Last Blood" as a Triumphant Call for a Border Wall

Well, I mean, they're not hailing it so much as resorting to their typical tactic of "reviewing a movie" according to what impact it will have on elections.

In the film, Rambo goes up against a Mexican cartel involved in both drug trafficking and human trafficking -- which is a weird term. He's up against men who enslave underage girls into forced prostitution.

These are real things that happen in the real world.

But leftists in Hollywood insist these are fictions, just as they shriek that MS-13 is a fantasy concocted by Trump.

The new film's signature sin, though, is Trump-style "racism."

The official Variety review calls the film a "cruel and ugly showcase of xenophobic carnage."

"Screenwriters Matthew Cirulnick and Stallone adopt the racist view of Mexicans as murderers, drug dealers and rapists, devoid of cultural context or exceptions, beyond the "independent journalist" (Paz Vega) keeping tabs on their whereabouts."

It's a shame "Last Blood" concocted vicious Mexican cartels out of thin air of the purposes of this movie.

Oh, wait.

This critic also has the sads that these evil cartel types, who force innocents into sex trafficking, get their comeuppance.

Yes, but they deserve it, one might argue. This is the reductive one-man-against-the-world reasoning by which Rambo has always operated, and I don't buy it.

Of course, vigilantes are often problematic to film critics, especially if they happen to be both white and male.

Suddenly, the infamous wall along the U.S.-Mexico border seems inadequate -- less in containing the cartels than in protecting them from Rambo’s brand of vigilante justice.

A Trump reference in a film review? Who saw that coming?

I unsubbed from Grace Randolf yesterday over this bullshit. I just got sick of each and every one of her movie reviews being one third (or more) about "diversity issues" and how the movie "positively or negatively portrayed the LGBT community."

You're supposed to be reviewing movies, not the GOP. Enough. Do your actual jobs, NPCs.

Or Learn to Code.

This guy, a lifelong fan of the Rambo series, has a review I trust. He says the movie is definitely not the best in the series -- that honor belongs to either the first First Blood or the 2008 reboot Rambo -- but it's good.

His one major criticism is about pacing and tone. The movie is determined to present a depressive, "grounded" kind of feel, and imitates the tone and pacing of Unforgiven and Logan to accomplish this. He thinks the movie feels longer than it is.

But, that aside, he says it's very good.

I don't understand people who inject politics into art like this as a reviewer.

Not only am I watching movies to try and escape from the real world, but I'm trying to open myself up to what the artist has to say. It's less about what I care about and more about what the artist cares about.

It's like the worst review Ebert ever wrote. It was for The Lives of Others. He loved it. It's a great movie. However...

He inserted W. into the review. He said the movie, about Stasi in East Germany, was actually about George W. Bush. It was the dumbest piece of tripe he ever wrote.

It's who do you focus on in your fiction. Which real world thing do you bring awareness to?

The cartels? They're not a real threat. They portray Mexicans as bad. They can't be used.

White conservative men? They're a real threat. Acceptable.

All subservience to a political message, which makes art significantly less interesting overall.

Tangent: I rewatched The Ghost and the Darkness recently, and that movie could never get made today. Why? White savior in Africa. Colonialism not portrayed as completely evil. Killing wildlife. The main character doesn't atone for evils of capitalism.

97 NYT review is surprisingly (though not completely) apolitical.

"First Blood" (1982) was a relatively thoughtful picture about a damaged Vietnam vet, but the sequels were reactionary exercises in bloodletting.

While the Mexican villains of this movie suggest some sort of similarly retrograde statement, this picture doesn't have a political ax to grind so much as a will to go full grindhouse.

230 I was being rhetorical in my comments about Sicario and Breaking Bad. I think the truth is, Hollywood knows how bad the border is, but for PC reasons they can't admit this. However, the almighty buck can often allay PC fears, and Hollywood knows there is a lot of drama (and a truth that most people know about) at the border. Still, it must be difficult to make a movie about drugs and cartels and then go around lambasting conservatives who point out that drugs and cartels at the border are a problem.

Now, if Apollo Creed or Clubber Lang show up in Rambo it will be worth going to see on that alone.

A couple of hypothetical questions for AOC -
- Do you really believe that?
- Then you really believe some people can be so unethical as to be criminal?
- Do you know anybody can make baseless vague allegations?
- So even your 'own side' can make up such allegations?

And now you understand that objective people think
you are stupid (at best) to
the one that is unethical bordering on criminal.

I heard some local radio host saying that he's seen them for $385 or so. I haven't, but I don't doubt that the deals are out there. They're ridiculously easy to build, too, and you could probably go the armslist.com route and buy a receiver locally in accordance with state and federal laws, and that's the ideal way to do it.

That said, it's hard to beat a $500 Ruger or S&W if you just want one right now.

A 2007 6920 went for $1400'ish, retail, and sold for $1800, pre-obama, secondary market.

Ten years later, they were going for much less retail and secondary market, while the market was saturated with $350-$500 entry level ARs.

I believe that was part of it, and I believe another part of it is PR spin.

--

I suspect there's some degree of "the best swordsman doesn't fear the second best swordsman, he fears the person who just picked up a sword" going on here, if that's the case.

Warren strikes me as very risk-averse. She's not going to take risks in a campaign. She's going to try not to say anything wild. But Biden is a wild card. His craziness could make it harder to prepare for. Even if it probably backfires, there's a chance something he says or does sticks.

The end game is a uniformity of narrative.

The narrative is driven by politics.

Their politics are: diversity is our strength, open borders is love, white supremacy is our greatest domestic threat.

Films/shows/theater/books must reinforce that narrative. From that flows the overarching narrative: Trump = Hitler/KKK/evil.

Any film that depicts Mexican drug cartels as a violent threat violates all three of those things AND endorse Trump.

335 If it comes down to Gropey Joe vs Lizzy Faux, Lizzy is the weaker of the two IMHO.

First off, the US has yet to elect a Presidential ticket with a woman on the ballot in either position - #1 or #2. Both parties have tried the #2 position and failed. The dems tried the #1 position and also failed, and I truly think Cankles was helped by Rapey Bill being her (official) husband. The thought in many men's minds subconsciously was that, well she might be in the office but he's right next door with the interns in case he's needed.

Giving the keys to the country to a woman, especially one with such a quavery schoolmarm voice, I don't know about that.

I've started trying to remember to buy one 96 count pack every month or so, so next time I get sick I'll have a few hundred put up.

it's a stupid law that creates a situation where that's the best response.

I used to live in an HOA...
They changed to allowable paint colors/rules after I painted my house. They had a color book with ~20 various schemes you had to paint your house. All off-white except two that had a baby poop brown and what I call 'pumkin spice'. I just quoted their color book back to them,

Base/trim: 'Peach Cream' (what I called it)
Trim/base: 'Pumpkin Spice'
Accent/front door: Dark leather

I made the base 'Pumpkin Spice' whole house. Gutters and soffit the light off-white 'peach cream'...

My house was at the "T" where almost everyone coming into the sub division saw it. Within a month three others houses copied mine... then they changed the rules to require the base color to be the off-white. So four of had glorious orangey pumkin spice house and everybody else had off-white.

Then they got pissed at me when I painted my mailbox post pumpkin too. Sorry, rules say mailbax post is to match the house or be 'beige'... Then the shit really started...

Yeah, I want a fucking HOA nazi for President.
