Georgia Man Kills Three Youths With Semiautomatic Assault Weapon

Georgia homeowner shot and killed three teens as they approached his residence with their faces covered, authorities said. The masked teens -- a 15-year-old and two 16-year-olds -- approached three residents around 4 a.m. Monday at the front yard of a home just outside Conyers and tried to rob them, the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office said. One of the would-be robbers took out a gun and fired shots at them before one of the residents returned fire, authorities said. "The victims of the attempted robbery were all uninjured, but the three attempted robbery suspects were all shot during the exchange of gunfire and succumbed to their injuries, one on scene and two at a local hospital after being transported," the sheriff's department said in a news release. One neighbor heard someone asking for help, he told CNN affiliate WSB. "I heard a guy yelling for help. 'Help me, help me, I'm dying, I'm dying, help me, help me," Brian Jenkins told the station.

..It's not marksmanship that is really at issue here - although there are some downright amazing videos from Chicago showing people that literally can barely keep all of their rifle rounds hitting the same 200 yards of street - it's the lack of teamwork and not knowing their manual of arms.
You can take 2-4 people that can't hit the broad side of a barn, and if they can keep their guns in the fight, move, communicate, and use cover properly, an individual opponent is going to be a in a world of shit.
Witnesses - with a grain of salt - claim it was some half-assed pistol fire answered with a much high volume of long gun fire.

First, the good guys won.
Second, some stupid mistakes are fatal. And it's tragic. And it's okay to accept that it's tragic. Accepting that doesn't mean that the good guys didn't win. I can still feel awful for the stupid kids. I can still feel awful for their families. Nothing says all three were equally agreed that this was a great idea.

Also ... it says the guy was in his yard ... must have seen trouble coming, seems like there may be more detail, but the good guy won, in any case. Bodes well for the new gun control law ... "All homeowners must own a rifle, and the town will sponsor training. Known gang members with a record will be red flagged."

- If you mix up .300 and 5.56, you're going to blow up your 5.56 rifles. Be careful.

Some jerkwad New York PR company wants me to help promote one of their campaigns, which involves the idiotic "Global Climate Strike" Greta Thunberg/Bill DiBlasio protest on Friday.
All sorts of left-wing companies are ceasing operations for the day "to show their support" for stopping climate change.
I just couldn't take it anymore.
I wrote back to say that if they all closed down permanently, thereby stopping their carbon contribution forever, then I'd help promote their event. Otherwise, it's all just a bunch of hypocritical virtue-signalling, as they'll all go back to spewing out carbon the following day.
I phrased the reply as coming from the extreme left -- i.e. these companies aren't doing enough, implying that we must end capitalism and human civilization if we were serious about the issue. So I'm hoping the person will feel "climate shame" as a result of being criticized by someone more left-wing than they are.
But I was purposely a bit vague about my personal stance, so she could conceivably think I'm a eeeevil right-wing Denier. I merely pointed out that the companies would all be perceived as hypocrites by the public.

..Vehemently disagree. 6.5-7mm is objectively superior to 7.62/7.92 for a general purpose individual rifle, and the modern slate of sub-.30 cal rounds are an improvement over the original set because they fit in short actions and .308 pattern magazines.

And it does it with less recoil. .308 needs to be up in the 175gr + class even attempt to compete with it.
Magnums are going through a similar design shift, with things like .300WM vs 300PRC.

The bolt isn't open. The 30 cal bullet is either already seated deep enough into the case that only the forward tip of it is in the 223 chamber neck, or the action closing has seated it so. In my opinion they should have made the 300 case slightly too large to even start to chamber in a 223.

I've noticed this a lot recently. Criminals are extremely stupid. Their general rule of thumb, "If I can see a house, I rob that house." They go to ZERO effort to seek out the hidden locations, which would actually be easier to rob because no one can witness their activities.
Security companies always recommend that homeowners brightly illuminate the exteriors of their homes, supposedly as a way to dissuade burglars, who wouldn't want to be seen. Also, they recommend putting up big signs saying the name of the burglar alarm company.
But in my lifelong experience and perceptions, this is the exact wrong advice. Lighting up your house only makes it more noticeable to criminals, and thereby INCREASES your likelihood of being robbed, because criminals are stupid and they rob what is obvious.
Putting up signs only serves to announce that you have things worth stealing. Again, this attracts criminals.
In past I have lived on blocks where there were burglaries. On those blocks, there were brightly illuminated houses right up near the sidewalk, mixed with "hidden" houses set way back behind trees and bushes, hard-to-notice from the street. Guess which houses were always the one to get robbed? The brightly illuminated ones. Every time.
Where I currently live, passersby cannot even see that there is a building on the lot. Extremely hidden. At night -- zero lights. Totally dark. And that is intentional.

..The case is short enough to allow some .300's to chamber in 5.56 and false-headspace on the ogive because the original .300 Whisper (with the same external dimensions) was a wildcat made from 5.56 brass - the case has to be short enough to cut off 5.56 behind the shoulder prior to forming a new neck and shoulder.
It's a tradeoff allowing for easy conversion of brass and lets you use 5.56 bolts and magazines.
If you don't *need* a tiny PDW, subsonic suppressed spitzer projectiles, or extra projectile mass in a small package, you're best off sticking with 5.56. Some of the units using .300 overseas are using them as replacements for MP5SD's because you can use subsonic on the approach and infiltration and swap to supersonic for open assault with a mag change.

My husband is retiring at the end of the year. We have more than enough to live on, but he's a worrier by nature, and was quite enjoying the 4 percent he was getting on his... I don't know, CDs, or whatever the hell it is he has the money stashed in.
We have 401ks as well, and I think his are with Vanguard. All mine are in high risk stuff and doing fine, but I guess our actual savings cash ( and it's not actual cash, pretty sure they're in CDs for the most part) was really going great there for awhile.
We also inherited some CDs from his parents that at one point were getting some paltry less than 1 percent rate, and we had gotten those up to almost 3. Assume they are closer to 1 now.

As a concerned citizen I would have tried to render first aid. In such a situation it only seems right to help a gunshot, mislead youth live an additional hour. He shouldn't expire a moment before the ambulance and morphine arrives.
Plus you could comfort him while applying first aid with stories about the glory's of heaven (contrasted against the misery's of hell)
