Antifa-Friendly DA's Conspire to Let Antifa Thugs Off With No Charges, But Judges Refuse and Order Them to Prepare for Trial

Honestly, I've never heard of a judge telling a prosecutor "You have to prosecute this."

This is what it's come to -- District Attorneys are now essentially Antifa themselves, and judges have to overrule their decisions that lily-white upper middle class Antifa thugs shouldn't have their records so much as blemished.

Activists hoping to be let off with a slap on the wrist after being arrested for disrupting last weekend's Straight Pride Parade have run into resistance from Boston judges.

Two Boston Municipal Court judges refused to throw out the charges against the 18 defendants who appeared Tuesday in court, frustrating defense attorneys and prosecutors who sought to have minor charges dismissed, as reported by local news outlets.

...

Boston police arrested 36 people Saturday on charges ranging from disorderly conduct to assault and battery on a police officer after more than 1,000 counter-protesters, including bands of antifa activists, descended on the Straight Pride Parade, which drew an estimated 200 participants.

In a separate courtroom, Judge Richard Sinnott turned down motions by prosecutors to have low-level charges dismissed against defendants with no criminal record in exchange for community service.

The decision drew the ire of Suffolk County District Attorney Rachael Rollins, who accused him of punishing protesters for exercising their First Amendment rights.

Beating peaceable civilians is now "exercising First Amendment rights"?

You better watch yourself, honey-bunch-- because I just might start to believe you.

The "protesters" were also told "Stay out of Boston" until their pre-trial hearing.

Of course, the little sissies whined about this.

Three of the 18 anti-Straight Pride Parade protesters being arraigned Tuesday were ordered to "stay out of Boston" by a judge who said he wouldn’t even allow one of them to visit relatives in Jamaica Plain.

All three were accused of assault and battery on police at Saturday’s downtown parade, with two of them also arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on disorderly and resisting arrest charges. Others also arraigned Tuesday were told to stay out of downtown. A total of 36 were arrested and must report to court this week.

Judge Thomas Horgan said the three risked being put in jail for 90 days if they didn't follow his instructions. "Stay out of Boston," Horgan repeated when the attorney for one of the men asked that his client only be forbidden from downtown Boston so he could visit relatives in Jamaica Plain.

"They're going to have to go visit him, then," Horgan said.

By the way: You may be wondering, is Rachel Rollins one of the DA's leftwing Blofeld George Soros bankrolled?

It's unclear to me -- I can't find an article that says definitively that she was bankrolled by Soros.

But there are a ton of articles which specifically mention her when talking about DA's who were bankrolled by Soros:

Others are proposing more aggressive measures. Rachael Rollins in Boston, who has no Republican challenger in November, released a list of low-level crimes, such as disturbing the peace, that she would decline to prosecute altogether.

The push to overhaul prosecutors' offices was pioneered by the billionaire George Soros, who in recent years has backed more than 20 candidates, including Larry Krasner in Philadelphia, vowing to upend the way prosecutors have traditionally approached their jobs.

The Washington Post joins the New York Times in linking her to Soros' effort to create a communist bloc of district attorneys:

"I believe there are certain things we're just going to reject,” Rollins said in an interview before the primary. “I think there are certain charges that I don't want to prosecute any longer. Those are overwhelmingly the charges that fall on the mentally ill and those with substance abuse disorder."

Rollins, who spent just $230,000 on her campaign, is the latest in a string of reform-minded candidates who will be district attorneys in deep-blue cities — places that, for years, elected Democrats who ran on “law and order” platforms. The effort to elect them, which began before the 2016 election but has accelerated, has succeeded in Chicago, Philadelphia and St. Louis and failed in some other blue cities. But it's created a blueprint for electing reformist prosecutors and for shaping their agendas.

The first victory in the campaign came in early 2016, when George Soros plunked $300,000 into a PAC created to elect Kim Foxx as the state's attorney of Cook County, Ill. Foxx won the Democratic primary, tantamount to election in the deep-blue county, proving that the investments in races that sometimes attracted little money or attention could work.

In 2017, a larger coalition came together behind Larry Krasner, a defense attorney running in Philadelphia after suing the city's police force 75 times. He won the Democratic primary, then the general election, despite being opposed by the city's police union and the Philadelphia Inquirer.

I'm awaiting word from the Bulwark about whether it's still "antisemitic" to note that George Soros is a multibillionare socialist with an agenda of subverting our nation.

As a practical matter, yeah the judge doesn't usually force prosecution on a case the prosecutor wants to drop, but this is a plea agreement and those are not uncommonly questioned.

149 Can we, in a REPUBLIC, allow prosecutors to ONLY enforce the laws they like?

Well, prosecutors need to have the ability to choose how and when they will push for cases for a ton of practical and ethical reasons.

The problem is that this used to be tempered by antagonistic press, moral public sentiment, and a general sense of ethics, law, and honor among people which is entirely missing today. It was never perfect, but these elements were more present in the past and entirely gone now.

In its place is a new moral code based on feelings, progressive checklists, political correctness, racial/sexual politics, and the ever-changing agenda of progressivism. Its a new religion, but one without absolute, objective laws that all agree upon.

162 How much longer do we have to put up with the anti-Christ George Soros' seditious actions to destroy our country from within? Who will step up and stop him and his organization's efforts to diminish the rule of law?

Kudos to the Boston judges for their actions. More of this, please.

163 Remember that a lot of Southern States have laws against masked 'demonstrations' so there are fewer (if not none) of them.

164 That's what I thought. How rigorously will they prosecute?
----------------------
Doesn't matter. If it goes to court the offenders now have a record. Guarentee they will be found guilty of some of what they were charged with. Given the dynamics, the press in Boston (whatever their political beliefs) will cover the trials and name the defendants. Hopefully, they will do indepth bios on their lives in momma's basement. Nothing like laughter to destroy revolutionary man buns.

175 I would wager the vast majority of people have no idea that judges must sign off on plea agreements and can refuse them. Hell, depending on what it is, judges have to sign off on civil agreements and can refuse those too.

It's not common, but it's also not that rare, that judges will refuse to accept a plea deal because it's too lenient. Here's the thing, though. You think that would have happened if Antifa didn't attack the cops? Because I don't.

It's really important to understand your enemies.
Antifa's core is leftovers from the mid-2000's ANSWER commie nonsense, which then recycled itself into the Occupy movement. That group is *overwhelmingly* made up of coastal trust fund kids, primarily in their 30's now and with a fair amount of adjuncts, with older militant leftists (many of them tenured faculty) sprinkled in here and there. Prior to 9/11, they had a number of years where they didn't have much high profile stuff to bitch about - mostly they concerned themselves with hating on Israel.

They've always been supplemented with the current crop of campus moonbats - there are quite a bit more of those now, as they've been trying to swamp more campuses with their red guards style BS.
Outside groups (read: the money people, like Soros) have done a surprisingly good job in most cases of keeping these people on the leash until they're wanted. Not sure how long they're going to keep that up, though.

Posted by: illiniwek at September 04, 2019 02:01 PM (Cus5s)

229 Altho not common, there are plenty of cases in which a judge has refused to grant a prosecutor's motion to dismiss a criminal case.

For example, it happened once in a national headline case in CA-- two men accused of serial murders. It MAY have been the Hillside Strangler case. If not, it was a similar case that received that kind of national publicity.

Some old-fashioned judges don't LIKE the Soros prosecutors, or their program of "de-policing."

245 There's some good reason to suspect and worry over unequal enforcement and sentencing that results in more black youth in jail than really ought to be there. It deserves serious study.

But at least a part of that "inequity" has to be that more *guilty* young black men go to jail. And I wouldn't have really been open to thinking that "white people get away with it" was a real thing, though I know that many black people think so and it's probably the biggest reason for the cheering when OJ got away with it. Finally, one of *ours* who is guilty got away with it *too*.

But I grew up in an area where our "minorities" were anyone who's ancestors originated somewhere south of Germany. So *every* police interaction was with a white person.

But you know, the answer is still not "let guilty people go"... the answer is "throw these entitled white twits asses in jail."

That's the answer.

My mind's made up. I'm not a "protest" kind of guy. But if a mob blocks the road, I'm driving through. If a mob starts to get handsy, I'm opening up. The consequences will be what they will be.

Not trying to change anyone else's mind or tell them what to do. That's just my two cents.

It's been there for a while. The major city administrations were all behind the Occupoopers and allowed them to do pretty much anything they wanted without so much as even a fine. The Occupoopers were antifa before they changed their name ... before they were "black bloc" even. Nothing's changed. It would have been helpful if they hadn't been fining them several thousand dollars for that first offense.
