That's true. The Kennedys are mega-rich. That was the world's first autonomous car. Another chance to tell my FIL's story of Ted. FIL was actually more of a contemporary of Bobby Kennedy but Bruce (FIL) was tasked with introducing Ted as an inductee into Harvards Owl Club.
Side story - Ted had been kicked out of Harvard for cheating and Joe bought Ted's way back in by having him attend an ROTC boot camp and making a sizable donation. This is about 1950, 51 I think. So a totally pasted drunk Ted has to be assisted to the podium and propped up during his introduction. Where proceeded to yak all over the front row. The story bears repeating. Ted hired someone to take his final exam in Spanish (not vector calculus, surprisingly enough). But then he was stupid enough to be walking around Harvard Square during the examination, and ran into his instructor, who of course recognized him. Ted hired someone to take his final exam in Spanish (not vector calculus, surprisingly enough). And my high school graduation.
I graduated from college the following spring and had to suffer through a Ted Kennedy commencement speech. Happily, none of the students applauded; we all stood up at the end of his blather and turned our backs on Rose's little boy. None of the parents applauded either, and a good many of them wanted to know why the Masshole hadn't been "deplatformed." That was the year when a lot of colleges cancelled graduation altogether because of Cambodia, and the administration told both parents and students that we were lucky we hadn't been threatened with some kind of leftist acting-out. Edward Kennedy overcame an impoverished, hardscrabble background to matriculate at Harvard, where he developed a reputation for originality. Afterwards his accomplishments were such that the voters of Massachusetts clamored to elect him senator at 30. When faced with a deep personal crisis, he responded, "Let justice be done, though the heavens may fall." His green-eyeshade approach to public spending and his strict obedience to constitutional principles led to the friendly title of "The Taxpayer's Friend". A faithful husband and devoted father, he was the living embodiment of his Catholic faith. We will never see his kind again. Posted by: Hadrian the Seventh at July 19, 2019 05:01 PM (nr7NV) 191

They've accepted that Trump represents US, and they hate us, and they hate America because of that. And this is the message they're going to take into the election. and if you go to the link and read what Hayes proposes to do, you can see that he's pretty much adopted the Marianne Williamson political philosophy, which is the funniest part of the entire story. See the Plantagenets and the Normans.
The Plantagenets were the Normans. Actually, William and his children were considered so domestic that they were made fun of. Empress Maude married Geoffery Plantegenet and was pretty normal for someone fighting her cousin for usurping her crown and Henry II was the sane one in the marriage with Eleanor of Aquitaine. It was their children, who spent so much time trying to over throw Henry, with her help, who screwed up the whole mess. Posted by: dagny at July 19, 2019 05:18 PM (nRWPy) 331

Posted by: Pug Mahon, Balding American at July 19, 2019 05:19 PM (xPJvm) Yep. I was just reporting what he said. Apparently it's especially unnerving over ocean because there are no lights below. And as you say, the pilot also said it's easy to be descending slowly and not realize it, and you can't judge your altitude because there's nothing visible below. Same thing with turns. Hijackers have been foiled by pilots turning around so slowly that they didn't realize it. Presumably that would be at night. Posted by: Deplorable Jay Guevara at July 19, 2019 05:22 PM (bul8j) 354

He turned the plane back to Honolulu, and said he was terrified of missing those small islands under those conditions. He found them, obviously, and got out and kissed the ground. My grandfather was a navigator during WW II on the trans-Atlantic supply routes, flying in a bomber with the guns removed carrying priority cargo and passengers. I'm familiar with Chappaquiddick at the time of the accident. There is a two lane paved road that starts from the ferry in Edgartown (the one in the scene in "Jaws") and goes to the center of the island, Chappaquiddick Road. The first time I visited it, a month after the accident, the scope of Kennedy's lies really hit home. Kennedy claimed that he thought he was heading towards the ferry on Chappaquiddick Road, and took a wrong turn. It was actually a 180 "wrong turn" off a paved road, onto a bumpy unpaved gravel road (i.e. Dike Road) thick with summer vegetation. The turn happened at a point where Chappaquiddick Road took a sharp 90 degree turn to the left. Kennedy took a sharp 90 degree turn to the right. There is no way in hell he did not know where he was going. What about getting help? Dike Road had lots of cottages and houses occupied at peak tourist season. The nearest house was roughly about 100 yards from the bridge. He just needed to walk to it, bang on the door, and ask for help. Instead, he walked all of Dike Road, and miles back on Chappaquiddick Road to the compound, passing countless occupied homes, while Mary Jo was probably struggling to breath. His minions at the compound were as complicit. Not calling immediately for help, but brainstorming on how to do damage control while Teddy sobered up. The sobering up is the crucial piece. If they'd called the authorities Kennedy would've been rung up for drunk driving even in Massachusetts, and if they'd hadn't been able to save Mary Jo, he'd have been rung for manslaughter as well for killing someone while driving drunk. But once he'd sobered up, he could claim it was just an accident, and while it obviously wasn't, he had a fig leaf that sufficed by Massachusetts' standards. Using Google Maps (satellite view, so see what's really there) to look at the Dike Bridge on Chappaquiddick Island, one notices that the Dike Bridge now has a rather extensive guardrail Scrolling west, along the Dike Road to where it ends at Chappaquiddick Road, one notices that the Dike Road is much narrower than Chappaquiddick Road, and clearly not of the same paved quality. The intersection is much more of a turn-off than an intersectikon, as Chappaquiddick Road makes a large left curve at that location, and there is a bit of an open triangle-shaped area, prior to the Dike Road proper. The area has trees and lots of vegetation just off the road, and contemporary (1968 vintage) photos confirm this. It looks like leaving either of the roads would stick almost all passenger cars ... immediately. Someone who lived/partied there would know for sure. The Chappaquiddick Road curve is large enough and the open space large enough such that someone who was lost or confused would have trouble NOT staying on the Chappaquiddick Road curve, or at least NOT leaving the open space by any other means that Chappaquiddick Road ... ... unless leaving Chappaquiddick Road was The Point. One of Trump's greatest accomplishments is managing to somehow graft balls onto former borderline cucks like McConnell and Lindsay Graham. Posted by: Rodrigo Borgia at July 19, 2019 06:03 PM (GDooN) 560

My mom was a JFK fan, having being an 21-year-old Catholic girl in a small union town 1960. She had a copy of "Profiles in Courage," which I read as a young boy and was most impressed. Years later I learned that it was ghostwritten -- a fraudulent concept I had a hard time wrapping my head around, and still do. I love that Reagan and Trump generally have written their own speeches. some time later, Kennedy's car went off a bridge into the water. Kennedy was able to escape to sleep off [his alcohol level of .49 while MJK drowned]

she was just a sex toy to be thrown away. Being a Kennedy, laws do not apply. But not where Ted is now.

We used Kennedy's statement to police as part of interviewing and interrogation training. Detecting lies/false statements in writing. Watch what he does here in this excerpt:
On July 18, 1969, at approximately 11:15 p.m. in Chappaquiddick, Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, I was driving my car on Main Street on my way to get the ferry back to Edgartown. I was unfamiliar with the road and turned right onto Dike Road, instead of bearing hard left on Main Street. After proceeding for approximately one-half mile on Dike Road I descended a hill and came upon a narrow bridge. The car went off the side of the bridge. There was one passenger with me, one Miss Mary,[Notes 2] a former secretary of my brother Sen. Robert Kennedy. The car turned over and sank into the water and landed with the roof resting on the bottom. I attempted to open the door and the window of the car but have no recollection of how I got out of the car. I came to the surface and then repeatedly dove down to the car in an attempt to see if the passenger was still in the car. I was unsuccessful in the attempt. I was exhausted and in a state of shock. I recall walking back to where my friends were eating. There was a car parked in front of the cottage and I climbed into the backseat. I then asked for someone to bring me back to Edgartown. I remember walking around for a period and then going back to my hotel room. When I fully realized what had happened this morning, I immediately contacted the police. Did you catch it? He goes from active first person to passive third/observer right at the key moment. That can be a clue that he's leaving something out, denying something (that happened) and possibly lying about the next part. "I was driving..." "I was unfamiliar with the road..." "I descended a hill and came upon a narrow bridge..." Then, "The car went off the side of the bridge." So, everything up to coming up to the bridge is on him, but suddenly "the car" takes over and goes off the bridge. If you're an investigator reading this, your antenna should be up, because sudden shifts in perspective are an indication that the writer doesn't want to face a fact and doesn't want the reader to face it, either. Later on, he refers to Miss Kopechne as "the passenger," instead of using her name, as he had earlier. She's more inanimate, less human with an identity. It's likely already been said in this thread, but Kopechne didn't drown, she suffocated. She had an air pocket and it ran out. If the POS had gone for help immediately, she almost certainly would have survived.

Kennedy scum. "Lion of the Senate", my ass. But, perhaps, as that skanky female columnist wrote upon The Swimmer's death, Mary Jo would have thought her death was "worth it" for all that vermin "accomplished". The Kennedys have most often been unable to deal with the normal ups and downs of life. Though they've portrayed themselves as martyrs, it's mostly the poor unfortunate people around them that pay the highest price.

He goes from active to passive tense. Things happen TO him, he doesn't DO anything. Typical of the Left to this day.
