Trump Reaches Career-High Approval in Washington Post/ABC Poll

But no one should get overconfident: Democrats have yet to press their advantage of their popular stances on open borders, helping illegals sneak across the border, taxpayer paid health care for illegal aliens, throwing American citizens off of their private health care into Medicaid, calling the American flag racist, re-imposing forced busing, and free abortions for men.

Bolstered by a strong economy, Donald Trump reached the highest job approval rating of his career in the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll and runs competitively for re-election against four of five possible Democratic contenders. Yet he remains broadly unpopular across personal and professional measures, marking his vulnerabilities in the 2020 election.

Forty-four percent of Americans approve of Trump’s overall job performance, up a slight 5 percentage points from April and 2 points better than his peak early in his presidency. Still, 53% disapprove, keeping him at majority disapproval continuously for his first two and a half years in office, a record for any president in modern polling.

Fifty-one percent approve of Trump's handling of the economy, more than half for the first time in his presidency. His approval ratings across eight other issues all are substantially lower, ranging from 42% on handling taxes to 29% on global warming.

Personally, moreover, a broad 65% say that since taking office Trump "has acted in a way that's unpresidential," not far from the 70% who said so in mid-2017 and early 2018 alike. Just 28% in this poll, produced for ABC by Langer Research Associates, say his behavior is "fitting and proper" for a president.

...

Sixty-one percent of Democrats favor impeachment action, but just 37% of independents -- and 7% of Republicans -- agree.

...

Among registered voters, moreover, Biden still leads, by 10 points, but the other races all tighten to virtual or actual dead heats – Trump a non-significant -2 points against Harris, -1 against Sanders and exactly tied with Warren and Buttigieg.

...

Another question tests Trump against "a Democratic candidate who you regard as a socialist" --relevant given the Republicans' stated aim of applying that label to their eventual opponent. Among the general public the race is tied among Trump vs. a perceived socialist; among registered voters it goes +6 to Trump, 49% to 43%, not a significant difference.

Majority support for the citizenship question on the census, too:

Everyone is only guessing, always, and the discussion itself is the point of the polls. Influencing outcomes, by discussing what the polls say, and yes oh yes, the polls are going to say lots between now and then.

I'm with you. Nothing is guaranteed. There are huge institutional headwinds to overcome, as well as a decent chunk of communists (probably about a quarter of the electorate), contrarians who will vote against the incumbent no matter what (who knows how many) and people who just hate Trump personally (probably a smallish number but who knows).

There isn't much vote to play with and "the man" is definitely out to get him. I am "Eeyore" on this until the state Secretaries of State certify the results.

That pisses me off, because Acosta is a piece of shit that blocks conservative labor policies.

The right made this same mistake with George W. Bush. The left was so over-the-top and hysterical about everything that GWB did, that it was quite easy to default to defending GWB.

Acosta is a horrible cabinet member. Trump is defending Acosta because Trump chose him.

Let's not fall into the trap of defending everything Trump does just because we despise the left.

If he was a Bad Guy with no redeeming purpose (it sure as hell isn't his performance at Labor), everything about Trump makes it clear: he would be gone as fast as Christie, Kelly, or any of the other shitbags.

Either way, Epstein is clearly a Trump priority and he's earned trust in dealing with it.

big anti-Trump thing after the fizzling out of the Russian collusion fraud? Soros-elected DA in NYC? More pressuring of defendants to perjure themselves to falsely implicate Trump? And the New Democrat Party feels it's time to flush the Clintons?

Or something else entirely, the beginning of the end for a secret world of perverts and communists?

These are not the same thing.

327 Why David French's refugee stance is so completely wrong:

David French says he have a "Christian Duty" to help refugees.
Well, if he have such a duty, don't we have the same duty to help people in their home countries who would be refugees if they had the ability? We can't have an obligation to only the strong, can we? That wouldn't be strong.
So if we have such an obligation, we must note that the most of the problems in these countries are caused by their own governments. So if we have an Obligation to refugees out side our country, don't we have an obligation to go in and kick over their little shithole governments and put in place Governments that will do a much better job?
And if we're going to accept that, doesn't this mean, David French, that we must have a Christian Obligation to become the Policemen of the World, raising and financing huge armies to bestride the world like a collosus, enforcing our Christian Values on them all? Isn't that what Jesus told us to do, after all?

or, you know, on the other hand we could just say "you know, our government doesn't have any special responsibility to people who are not in our own country" and leave it at that.

Which would only be parallel if Jesus had never been "unborn".

So the parallel is that Jesus said no words about the unborn, he also said nothing about refugees teeming at your border.

Now, blews hate the old times, because people were mostly "xenophobic". Thus there wouldn't *be* this situation (thanks to Christianity) because most people *wouldn't* dream of making a new home among an alien culture. So yes, Jesus can mention being kind to "travelers" and "Gentiles".

But I'm pretty sure back in that time if a hoard of Chaldeans came and just took up homesteading in Capernaum anybody alive at that time would consider it an "invasion". (Again why are a bunch of typically xenophobic outsiders "quietly" settling among us?! It would take centuries for "Christendom" to resist this basic flesh behavior, which would be taken over by Scientistics (my word for devotees of Scientism.) Anti-Semitism was actually prejudice against a ME people, the Caucasian strain called "Semitic".)

Because as stupid as French's assertion is, a whole lot of mushy heads will nod along with him.

I think if we say things like "we envision a world where all people feel safe and heard in their own native space" and that "taking in refugees is just the next stage in neo-colonialism and cultural appropriation by privileged whites" we'd be making a good start.

Nowhere in his tweets did he evaluate what US citizens have contributed, in money, time, other donations, for refugees.

Who here has, through their church, sponsored a refugee family by contributing clothing, furniture, etc. to help them get settled in the US? What about sending people from your church to other countries to provide assistance?

There are many ways to assist refugees apart from open borders + US taxpayer assistance indefinitely.

We ask all sorts of stupid stuff so that welfare and services can be distributed. It makes more than enough sense to figure out how long people are stuck struggling through the naturalization process and how long it takes since fixing that is a legitimate task for government.

Giving any illegal alien a public benefit while even one citizen is homeless and starving can hardly be excused in light of that. It is a theft of resources better used to take care of our own.

You know what's hilarious? Beregond kills his fellow guards and mutinies against the Steward of Gondor. Aragorn exiles him from Minas Tirith. to be the Captain of the Guard for Faramir, who Beregond saved.

Jamie Lannister had more reason to kill Aerys, and less reason to feel bad about it. But he's kind of a sister banging pussy who won't stop moaning to an ugly chick about it, so he is a weaker character than Beregond, never mind any other Tolkien character.

Even the smaller parts of LOTR are bigger than the best, usually unfinished hooks of ASOIAF.

There are three bloodlines of Hobbits. Stoors are the ones that live near rivers, shorter and stockier too.

I don't think the Hobbits are like the elves, with a touch of the divine to protect them. But they have a stubborn practicality to them that makes them more like an English peasant that makes them less susceptible to the One Ring's temptations compared to the hot blooded and fast moving humans.

There is a LOT of good allegory in the Lord of the Rings.

Why now if this is dedicated effort to try to take down Trump? As an engineer, my answer is: They have a target date for releasing info (lies) that they expect will do maximum 2020 election damage to Trump. Then they back-up from there, estimating the time needed for pre-trial activities and the trial date, and from that you get a target arrest date.

462 I'm kind of torn.

From a political perspective, liberals are my enemy and I would have no remorse if they all died screaming in a burning inferno.

But from a Christian perspective, I realize they are all God's children, just like me. So if they all die screaming in a burning inferno, it's God's will that they should do so, and so I should rejoice.

So I'm not sure if I should be indifferent to liberal suffering or rejoice in it.

Since Ace made us have a gang-read of "The Crying of Lot 49"-

we need to have a gang-watch of-

It's very much like the "grand paranoid novels" of the 60s and 70s such as

Thomas Pynchon's "CoL49" and "V"

and Don Delillo when he was imitating Pynchon in

"The Names" "Running Dog" and "Ratner's Star".

So-o-o-o-o-o-o.

I tend to think that Trump really had personal animosity towards a wide swath of people involved in this kind of thing, if not these exact people. For example, melania guaranteed saw a lot of very dark shit in the modeling world. She very likely told him about it and named names.

Exactly. While they despise the Golden Scalp Weasel and lust for power, there are a lot more people vying for the power than there is power to go around. This leads to the usual hijinks.

Think of the hilarity that ensued in the Kremlin when all of the players learned that Stalin had died. Days of vodka, nights of firing squads.

Yep.

There's a difference between 'antagonist' and 'villain'

It all comes down to the writing, a good writer can do both or either. That's one of the things I liked about Thanos in 'Infinity War' (and hated in Endgame) was how complex the bad guy was. There's no way you couldn't at least try opposing him, considering his goal, but in Infinity War he wasn't a cardboard cutout.

Well sort of. Of course the blackmail material in a dead drop is the real insurance, so why bother? If you were an agent of a foreign power running black ops in enemy territory wouldn't a couple of armored cars on standby be useful? In fact, they are probably standard equipment.

478 What is puzzling about Epstein is that you'd think a man who was making a fortune blackmailing rich and powerful people with sex tapes would have ended up deep in the Atlantic a long time ago. Besides Clinton, the names in Epstein's little black book include Prince Andrew and Peter Soros. You think those men would just say "Gee, Jeffrey, you got me. Here's $100 million and we'll just keep our little secrets to ourselves?"

Hard to believe that it is all 100% true.

Posted by: Panchito Pistoles at July 09, 2019 02:37 PM (H2I6R)

481 Call me cynical, but this plays right into the hands of the Left.

These "polls" are always put out there by the Left for one reason: not to report a fact that a certain amount of people feel a certain way about something, but rather to simply convince the people who have not made up their mind about something that they should feel ---X--- about something, since all these other people ---X--- about it.

And in this case, more than a year out from a Presidential election, the Left is fine with showing President Trump so popular now. That way, as we get closer and closer to the election, they can put out more and more "polls" showing his support getting smaller and smaller.

Yeah, I'm cynical. I don't believe any "polls", whether I like the outcome or don't like the outcome. There are plenty of ways the media corrupts these polls by polling more liberals than conservatives or tweaking the wording the questions a certain way.
