The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition

punk-monkey.jpg

It is an indictment of our educational system and the quality of our national leaders that the vile, murderous political philosophy of Lenin and Stalin and Mao and Pol Pot and a host of other power-hungry sociopaths isn't rejected on intellectual grounds, on moral grounds, and on practical grounds.

But here we go...the policy goals of the Communist Party of The United States of America and Democrat party are so closely aligned that they now consider themselves allies. Gone is the time when the Democrat party could be counted on to support the portion of the political philosophy of our founders that respected individuals and freedom and liberty. Because if history has taught us one thing, communism is about one thing...the concentration of power at the top of the party hierarchy. And there is no cost too great to be paid by the people.

'A gangster masquerading as president': American Communists plan Trump 2020 takedown

CHICAGO — America’s Communist Party concluded its national convention seemingly united on two themes: that they are a significant ally of the increasingly powerful left wing of the Democratic Party and that a viable future remains for the Communist Party USA.

As to the question of whether the CPUSA emerges in control or is absorbed into the broader socialism movement peppering the platforms of Democrats running for president in 2020, officials expressed confidence that the red star of their party will continue blazing.

The problem is the socialists and communists have successfully muddied the waters as to the definition of their philosophy.

When your average 20-something thinks of socialism they think of Sweden, when in fact Sweden DOES NOT have socialization of the means of production, which is what socialism actually stands for. The Scandi countries are high-tax welfare states; there is still personal property and private means of production.

But the kids with the heads full of mush don't understand that.

41 The fatal flaw of Socialism is in redistribution. In the name of material equality, they empower a government agency to control the entire economy. "A small group that controls all the wealth" is an aristocracy.

Creating an aristocracy in the name of any kind of equality is utterly self-defeating. And as GK Chesterton said, there has never been an aristocracy that didn't behave exactly like a small gang. Once it has absolute power, it no longer matters why the power was given.

Joe wants to follow the Trump route to the nomination, where he gets a plurality of votes in enough states to simply stamp out the rest of the field.

The problem is that Trump was actively trying to appeal to the forgotten part of his party's base. Biden, on the other hand, is actively trying to appeal to the part of the Democratic base that literally every other candidate is running towards at full speed.

People jumping on the socialism/communism bandwagon now should ask themselves how many Russian Party members in 1917 were still alive in 1940.

I, for way too long, imagined him staying above the fray of the Democratic primary and just saying relatively common sense things. His intended audience was going to be the Midwestern voters that went Obama-Trump. They have a huge say in the primary and will determine the next general election.

Instead, he's been bowing to every pressure from the Left, leaving the moderate voices of the party no reason to vote for him.

Marx's communist utopia was a deliberate lie.

The concept of historical materialism was designed to trick people into believing that there is something better than a free-market system with an emphasis on personal freedom and strong protections of property rights. Get enough idiots on board with this idea, and society reverts back to its default state, feudalism.

Leftards welcome this because they are the idiots who believe they will be among the aristocracy if only the dice can be cast again.

This is consonant with all epistemology that came after rationalism and the scientific method. Kant and his intellectual heirs were entirely full of shit. Formal deductive reasoning is the only way to point us toward truth. Individuals who are incapable of mastering logic are bad enough, but shitheads who can but choose to believe instead in mumbo jumbo like dialectics are far worse.

It is impossible to exchange ideas with an individual who willfully denies truth.

91 Now I will tell you the answer to my question. It is this. The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in the good of others; we are interested solely in power, pure power. What pure power means you will understand presently. We are different from the oligarchies of the past in that we know what we are doing. All the others, even those who resembled ourselves, were cowards and hypocrites. The German Nazis and the Russian Communists came very close to us in their methods, but they never had the courage to recognize their own motives. They pretended, perhaps they even believed, that they had seized power unwillingly and for a limited time, and that just around the corner there lay a paradise where human beings would be free and equal. We are not like that. We know that no one ever seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it. Power is not a means; it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power. Now you begin to understand me.

socialization of the means of production, which is what socialism

True.

I find the case study of the Pilgrim fascinating and crommulent to the thread.

They were originally founded as a commune. Bounty was to be shared with all. The problem was the able bodied farmers and hunters werent so keen on working to suport layabouts that didnt want to plant or hoe.

The almost starved to death.

It was only after Bradford and Standish allocated plots for ownership and that the owners could do with their bounty as they wished that the small villlage became self sufficient. They produced so much plenty that started a bounty festival we now know as THanksgiving.

Thats the REAL story about the beginnings of Thanksgving. A rebuke of communes.

Don't usually go to fast food places, but local Braum's does good burgers - reputedly Oklahoma Angus. Fries aren't bad.

ChikFilA opened a store in town ... last? year... so we had to try it. Didn't think much of the chicken we got - kinda dry, as I recall (shrug- only time we've had fast-food chicken in many years), and the much-touted (on A&spades) waffle fries were soggy and cold. The peach shake was okay. I'd go back for one of those. And maybe give the fries another try.

Whew. Now, I can go on to the chimp post.

Posted by: Sleepy Joe at June 25, 2019 11:14 AM (8XRCm)

There's one important exception - human beings can be truly altruistic when the altruism is contained to tightly knit family groups of about 30 individuals or less. This is probably because in very tightly knit family groups, people's identity as "part of this family" is just as, if not more important, than their identity as individuals.

Socialism takes this inborn willingness to support Family and attempts to co-opt and replace it, thinking it can then apply to Everyone in the system. (it can't, we're wired to only feel that way towards people we are closely related to and who we know intimately) It's also why socialism wants to destroy Family identity, because that it it's greatest rival. Of course never realizing that if you destroy the Family, you destroy Civil Society in general.

++++++++++
The fatal flaw of *all* utopianism. It is the question that exposes fundamental political ideology/alignment:
"Do you believe that man is perfectible or not?"

If you believe that man is perfectible, you're susceptible to utopianism and virtually any sin is acceptable as you're working toward the perfection of man. Slavery and murder are just fine, so long as you're working toward a perfect version coming out the other side.

If you don't believe that man is perfectible, you'll instead work toward a system that can compensate for his imperfect reality - one that encourages the good and discourages the bad. You will accept that this system will not be perfect and look at averages to determine how to move them. Consistent, deliberate, equitable and minimal government/state action in combination with markets are the best system of the latter type we've found thus far.

Rush Limbaugh's children's book, Rush Revere and the Brave Pilgrims, should be on every parent's and grandparent's list of books to read. It tells the true story of the pilgrims travels and struggles in the New World without getting political. It was written with oversight by actual accredited historians and contains photos and illustrations from England and Massachusetts , which is why it's always laughable when places such as Salon would call it a liar's fantasy book.

Officially not that I have heard, but close friend was there a week or so before on his bike and suspects the truckdriver crossed over the centerline on a curve at or above the speed limit coming down the hill. They are not that strong in terms of actual vote numbers, I surmise.

Whoever wins the primary should be the one who appeals to Democratic voters in MI, IA, SC, MS, TN, etc. These are not Democrats of the coastal variety. They are largely Democrats of the "My granddaddy was a New Deal Democrat and we've been like that ever since. We go to church and think that babies are people."

The fact that every prominent Democrat running is desperate to fly their progressive flags as much as possible means that these cultural Democrats in the flyover states are going to get very turned off by the party as a whole and the media is going to have to work overtime (if they even try) to moderate the eventual winner's image.

Remember, for all of 2008 we were told by the NYT, CNN, NBC, and the rest that Barack Obama was a moderate centrist.

231 Your going to love this:

So TheHill has a story:

"Biden leads among Hispanic voters in key states: polls"[/]

and in the story mentions:

"Hispanics in each of the four areas said they preferred to replace President Trump rather than reelect him."

Okay I say to myself. I continue to reading.

"That margin was closest in Florida, where 34 percent of respondents said they would pick the incumbent again while 56 percent picked to have him replaced."

Hey wait a minute: 34% would vote for Trump and 8% undecided for a total of 42%!

So now I'm wondering "What percentage did Trump get in 2016?"

They have an answer.

Many GOP strategists predicted that Trump's rhetoric about immigration on the campaign trail would hurt him among Latino voters in 2016; however, he ended up winning 28 percent of the Hispanic vote that year based on exit polls

So Trump, with all his talk of illegal immigration crackdowns and immigration reform, has improved his position with Hispanics.

Jeebus, talk about burying the headline.

239 The modern Democrat Party is nothing but a shell. Within that shell are housed some of the most extreme and destructive threats to our democratic republic.

Every one of their proposals can be traced back to an authoritarian effort. Each can be traced to negative liberty or a surrender of sovereignty.

That's because the Democrat Party is not concerned with America or our well being. They want to rule, not govern, so it's about conquest and forcing an agenda down the throats of ordinary Americans.

There is no despicable tactic they won't use. They will brainwash, undermine, propagandize, subvert, break the law, distort the Constitution and use the levers of government like a hammer to get their way.

It won't stop until they are completely destroyed.

Any person voting or supporting them is culpable for all that will predictably happen.

Yup. Government types in general - and lefty government types in particular - look at people, places, jobs, skills, etc. as essentially interchangeable. I have noticed (purely anecdotal, of course) that the smarter the person is, the more easily he can come to believe this. If you are really competent and smart and can pivot into something new and keep up, it's probably easier to believe that other people can, too. If you also have your hands on the levers of power, it can lead to really bad policy.

But people, places, jobs, skills, etc. are *not* essentially interchangeable. They are to some degree, of course. If you're a machinist in a car plant, you can probably slide over to QA at an electronics plant with some retraining. But sliding from from a machinist in a car plant to a junior accountant at a firm will be much harder and depending on the person may be impossible. Cincinnati is a lot like Pittsburgh - but your aging parents may not be in Cincinnati and moving, while possible, may be decidedly non-trivial.

The viewing of people, places, skills and jobs as essentially interchangeable regardless of any other context or relation between the source and the destination is, in my opinion, a mark of profound contempt for people and is probably sociopathic.

--------

I think it's too far out of control, anymore. The Democrat Party is largely insulated from its voters to a degree that the Republicans are not (as evidenced by the rise of Trumpism).

However, Trump also showed that they are losing hold of those moderates at general election time, when they can no longer completely guide events. As the Left wing Maoist faction of the Party spins further and further from the center, it can only get worse.

I don't think the Party wants to or even can prevent a radical of some stripe from taking the nomination, and they will not be able to convince centrist Dem voters that he/she is moderate as they did with Obama. They're all too crazy, too outspoken, and have a record of nutso behavior behind them.

Instead, the media's tactic will be to silence pro-Trump people wherever they can, which is a pretty extensive reach, while increasing the pitch, frequency, and volume of their "ORANGEMANBAD!!!!!111! REEEEEE!!!!" messaging, in an attempt to play off fear, anger and, oppositional defiance.

I don't think it will work.

and when you read actual accounts of them from the middle ages, a lot of them (maybe even most) were not at all like what their hype proclaimed them to be. In large part, especially in England, they became proto-corporations where the member swore to abstain from marriage and kept all wealth in the community. (didn't stop many of them from having women and kids on the side, of course)

One of the big reasons that Henry VIII dissolved the monasteries is that it was estimated that by his time, the various religious orders owned 1/4 of all the wealth and all of the land in England. Of course he took all of it for his own, which is what cemented his power.

Unless they silence Trump himself, it won't work, I don't think.

I also believe it will be a very difficult task to moderate the nominee's image, but they will certainly try. Whether it's ignoring past statements (and treating Trump like a crazy person for bringing them up) or making something like voting rights for current inmates sound reasonable, they will try.

It's becoming increasingly clear to me that this year may be the best shot in a couple of generations to see a brokered convention, which could actually split the Democratic Party.

People are interchangeable in the macro sense. And you can't make economic policy on an individual basis. If there's a better job in Pittsburg but your parents are in Cincinatti, that's a decision you make. But we shouldn't stop that job in Pittsburg from being created because moving is tough. Mobility is one of the reasons we became an economic power. Willingness to drop everything and move 1000 miles away for a new job or business opportunity is a uniquely American thing.

Which is a good explanation as to why every system built on it collapses so quickly. Of all possible systems, one of the most idiotic possible is a religious based theocracy that has no god, just the rules that go along with it.

And I always feel the need to point out that China is *not* communist, although they use the word - China has an upgraded and slightly reformed version of the same old Imperial system they've used for 2,300 years now. It's brutal, but it works. President and Chairman Xi has powers that most of the old Emperors could only dream of.

The cap-and-trade policy is designed to screw everyone outside of Portland, for the benefit of crony capitalists and people who bicycle to their "progressive" nonprofit jobs in downtown Portland.

In particular, it is designed to devastate rural Oregon.

Portlanders go through a two step process, which has been going on for years:

1) Ban as much economic activity in rural areas as they possibly can.

2) Complain that the rural areas are poor, and require subsidies.

Yeah, I was unclear in my initial post. There are huge differences between natural and synthetic selection. When the market evolves one way or the other and sidelines people, that is one thing. There may be things the state can do to help, maybe there aren't - but the state shouldn't interfere aggressively in natural developments. Those natural developments are how progress is made. The state should acknowledge the disruption and determine if there is a positive interest in micro-level interference. That, I agree, is not indicative of evil in any way.

But synthetically forcing the destructive of non-obsolete industry or forcing the incubation of non-existing industry (oil in the former, solar in the latter, for example) because you view people as drones is a different scenario. I did not make that nuance clear in my initial post, and thanks for calling it out.

I think they believe they are saving the world and doing the right thing, and are simply ignorant about the damage that it would do, and reject any warnings or complaints as being oil money and evil Rethulikkkans. Besides, they are all enlightened and good and right and can fix anything, because they are so virtuous and smart. That's their thought process at least.

Almost nobody does anything just to be evil and horrible.

""Who expects rational behavior from kzinti? . . . It's not as if
they're a real threat. They'll always attack before they're ready."--
Beowulf Shaeffer, reflecting from a time period 200 years later and free
of Man-Kzin wars"

*pushes taped glasses up*

Actually, Beowulf Shaeffer's remark predates the Ringworld stories,
as he's later revealed to be Louis Wu's biological father. He disappears
from the records shortly after Wu's birth, 200 years before Ringworld
-- which opens with Wu celebrating his 200th birthday.

. . .

Ah, you're right -- Bey's adventures predate Ringworld; he's the [pilot who took the super-fast starship Long Shot far enough to see that the core of the galaxy was exploding. Still, he was able to make his remark about kzinti in the confidence, in 2600 or so, that the Man-Kzin Wars were long over.

However, I always though Bey's friend, Carlos Wu, the certified genius with the unlimited breeding license, was Louis's biological father. Bey and his wife Sharrol wanted children, but Earth wouldn't give Bey a license; so they asked Carlos to father their children. I think -- think -- Carlos or Bey mentions "little Louis" in there somewhere. So presumably Bey came back to Earth and helped raise Louis, who 200 years later would go on the Ringworld expedition.

349 I honestly don't think that's true this time. I think they assume that Trump will win (a fair guess) and are just jockeying for leadership of the Democratic Party.Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at June 25, 2019 12:04 PM (39g3+)

My opinion is the D party can't afford to have someone go rogue, and gain popularity based on truth bombs and non-left positions. ESPECIALLY after what happened with Trump. That means they have no choice but to rig it again (ooh don't throw me in that briar patch). If someone they don't own gets in, it's more than a disaster it's the end of their power grab.

The media simply didn't get the job done last time. They HAVE to rig it.

You don't really have to announce yourself here, Everybody knows what tits are. They either have them or have played with them or have had someone else play with them. So what? That's all you have to say? Surely you could post some pictures of yourself?

353 I told my husband Oregon would start talking about job training. Sure enough...

I got a Novell CNE back in the day. One of the classes had a tractor mechanic. His job was going away, so they offered him training. I don't know how they sold it to him but they scheduled all seven Novell training classes, back to back and put him up in a hotel for the month it would take. He knew within the first hour that he was in over his head. He was out of a job, with useless training.

354 WA state legislature passed a law that required an expensive study before you could put in a new well. It shut down housing starts in Eastern WA as a result, since it added about $20k to the costs. Of course, the cities did not have to do any expensive studies about how their services impacted the aquifers.

Yes, they do. The deal with the small, homogeneous populations is spot on, though. Except they are now fucking that up by importing muslims.
