The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

“Our 2019 focus is on operational execution in our restaurants and optimizing the experience for our customers,” McDonald’s CEO Steve Easterbrook

Quote II

Who wants a U.S. war with Iran?

Primarily the same people who goaded us into wars in Iraq, Syria, Libya and Yemen, and who oppose every effort of Trump’s to extricate us from those wars.

Should they succeed in Iran, it is hard to see how we will ever be able to extricate our country from this blood-soaked region that holds no vital strategic interest save oil, and America, thanks to fracking, has become independent of that.Patrick J. Buchanan

Quote III

"I've got the [SNAP] form in my hand and I'm thinking of my financial situation, and I said ‘you know, I just can't believe this. So I went down to the second floor of the Sterns County Courthouse, stood in line a little bit, handed in the application and three weeks later I'm getting food stamps, a balance on my EBT card." Rob Undersander

Quote IV

“I’d like to express my deep and heartfelt gratitude to David Gilmour for this utterly remarkable gift. David has a long history of supporting charities and I am honored that he has chosen ClientEarth to benefit from this landmark auction.” James thornton

Did any of you vote for Kevin McAleenan to set immigration policy? I didn't think so.

The chronic problem of sabotage by bureaucrats hostile to the outsider president shaking up the Deep State will never be solved until unmasking and punishment become the order of the day. That’s why it is so heartening that with unusual swiftness, accusations are pointing to the alleged identity of a leaker who successfully delayed implementation of a key Trump policy initiative, the planned ICE raids on illegal alien scofflaws who have defied court orders for theior deportation.

This exercise will – if the allegations are sustained by evidence – help establish a norm of exposing the rat finks that could discourage future saboteurs.

Leaks to multiple media outlets, first reported by the Washington Post, exposed plans for ICE raids on illegal aliens who have gone through the appeals process and ignored court orders for their deportation. As a result, following strong Democrat protests, implementation of the plan has been delayed by two weeks.

In my misanthropic world Mr. McAleenan, would be facing harsh consequences if the accusations are true.

It really is a small world after all.H/T Hank Curmudgeon

On a Sunday morning last summer, Pat Reidy, who lives near Wrigley Field in Chicago, received an email from a stranger in France.

“I allow me to contact you,” it began. “I am Anthony Paysant a 22-year-old French citizen and I live in the town of Mortain near Barenton, Normandy.”

The stranger went on to say that he and his family were very interested in the Second World War and always participated in local memorial celebrations to show their gratitude to the soldiers who had helped liberate France from the German Nazis.

Great Britain metropolitan cities continue to be a warm and inviting cities. Nah, just kidding.

Children attacked two gay men with a knife after making homophobic insults towards them. One of the men was left with serious injuries to the head and neck, while the other man escaped with a minor hand injury in the ‘appalling and unprovoked attack’. Both men, in their thirties, were walking home in Liverpool around 9.20pm on Saturday when they were approached by three male youths, police said. The offenders are described as between 12 and 15, with one wearing a dark bubble coat and one riding a bike. They insulted the men, before one of the male youths pulled out a knife and assaulted them.

I bet next week's paycheck that the culprits are affiliated with the Religion of Pieces Peace.

If the byproduct of vaping was filthy litter, vaping would be legal in San Francisco.

San Francisco became the first city in the U.S. to ban the sale of e-cigarettes Tuesday despite opposition from corner store owners and local vaping manufacturer Juul.
The Board of Supervisors voted 11-0 to approve the legislation introduced by Supervisor Shamann Walton, which is intended to prevent youth from vaping.
“We spent the ’90s battling Big Tobacco. And now we see its new form through e-cigarettes,” Walton said.
This is a good idea. A youth walking down a San Francisco street for a vape refill might slip on some human feces and fall into a pile of dirty needles. We have to think about the children.

Maybe vapers should self-identify as heroin users.

Violating a Minneapolis cop's privacy was an expensive misdeed.

When Krekelberg asked for an audit of accesses to her DMV records, as allowed by Minnesota state law, she learned that her information—which would include things like her address, weight, height, and driver’s license pictures—had been viewed nearly 1,000 times since 2003, even though she was never under investigation by law enforcement. In fact, Krekelberg was law enforcement: She joined the Minneapolis Police Department in 2012, after spending eight years working elsewhere for the city, mostly as an officer for the Park & Recreation Board. She later learned that over 500 of those lookups were conducted by dozens of other cops. Even more eerie, many officers had searched for her in the middle of the night.

Krekelberg eventually sued the city of Minneapolis, as well as two individual officers, for violating the Driver’s Privacy Protection Act, which governs the disclosure of personal information collected by state motor-vehicle departments. Earlier this week, her case prevailed. On Wednesday, a jury awarded Krekelberg $585,000, including $300,000 in punitive damages from the two defendants, who looked up Krekelberg’s information after she allegedly rejected their romantic advances, according to court documents.

I’M A JOURNALIST BUT I DIDN’T FULLY REALIZE THE TERRIBLE POWER OF U.S. BORDER OFFICIALS UNTIL THEY VIOLATED MY RIGHTS AND PRIVACY

I SHOULD HAVE kept my mouth shut about the guacamole; that made things worse for me. Otherwise, what I’m about to describe could happen to any American who travels internationally. It happened 33,295 times last year.

My work as a journalist has taken me to many foreign countries, including frequent trips to Mexico. On May 13, I was returning to the U.S. from Mexico City when, passing through immigration at the Austin airport, I was pulled out of line for “secondary screening,” a quasi-custodial law enforcement process that takes place in the Homeland Security zone of the airport.

That's one way to attract talent. The NSA dares students to break a cyber code challenge.

The National Security Agency’s best and brightest cybersecurity experts are putting their skills to the test.

No, it’s not by stopping the Chinese or Russians from hacking government systems—though they are doing that too, we think.

Rather, it’s by developing a cyber challenge and daring more than 330 schools and 2,600 students to solve it.

Kathy Hutson, the senior strategist for industry and academic engagement at the NSA, said the Codebreaker Challenge has become one of the best ways to attract the next generation of talent to the federal government.

Kathy Hutson is NSA’s Senior Strategist for Academic Engagement.
“We are doing the high touch and personal approach to educate and attract students. Through the Codebreaker Challenges, we are using a non-traditional approach, which also teaches good fundamental skills for NSA as well as the nation,” Hutson said on Ask the CIO. “In our new employee orientation class, we started to poll all of our new employees as far as how they became interested in NSA. Among the new employees at a recent orientation class, one woman identified that she came to NSA through the GenCyber camps, which NSA hosts, and what sealed the deal for her was participating in the Codebreaker Challenge.”

In last night's ONT the following comment was made:

554 Hey MH/Ace/any other co-blogger, long time listener (a REALLY long time) first time caller. Love the show.
Hey, how do I submit tips? This post will be in the mid-500's so most likely, no one will see it. But I just read a post on an Australian blog (I'm Aussie) that I thought had merit and may be of interest to all morons.

http://catallaxyfiles. com/2019 /06 /22 /jupes -on -veteran -suicides -poor-service -delivery -or- poor-training/(Remove all the spaces to get the link to work. Comment rejected because "long strings are annoying" apparently)

That's the article in question. I wonder if the US has a similar experience?

It isn't only the U.S.A. that has an alarming veteran suicide rate, so does Australia .Veteran suicides poor service delivery or poor training?

The ONT Musical Interlude

On this day: June 23, 2003 - Diana Ross
Diana Ross appeared in court and testified that she was coerced and felt intimidated into taking a breath test that showed her blood alcohol level was 0.2 (well over the 0.08 limit). The singer said, "If I didn’t take the breath tests, I was either going to go to the hospital or to jail". After the hearing, Ross asked the judge if it would be possible to have court paperwork processed using her married name of Diana Naess. The City Magistrate said he thought it was "a little late" for that now. via thisdayinmusic.com

She self-identified as a winner. Tonight's Feel Good Story of The Day.

A teenage tennis star hopes to go all the way to the top after earning the Wimbledon wildcard - despite having only eight fingers and seven toes.

Fran Jones, 18, was born with rare genetic disorder ectrodactyly-ectodermal dysplasia cleft lip/palate - commonly known as EED or EEC.

It means that she was born with webbed fingers and, after countless operations, today has three fingers and a thumb on each hand, four toes on her left foot, and just three toes on her right foot.

11 Air show recap.

Did the air show at Fairchild, yesterday. It was much smaller than JBLM, fewer static displays, etc. But let me tell you, the F22 demos stole the show and made the trouble worthwhile.

First demo was solo. Mixture of slow and high speed. Incredible capabilities. Second demo was flown with a P51 Mustang flying in formations, making passes. Whoever thought this up was a genius. Air superiority from wild separated eras. Air superiority is timeless. Absolutely incredible.

Also, F5, F15, F16, C5, C17, C130, Wildcats, Avengers, oh my. Good times.

They also had a few Ospreys, static, and a UH1, static and demo, and B51, static and demo, and F35, static. Missed from the JBLM show were the A10, Chinook, Cobra, Apache, B1, and many more. Still worth it at Fairchild, however.

60 AT&T is the absolute worst.

My problem is e-mail; I can send but not receive (opposite of Hotel California). When I first got my e-mail address, my landline was served by a subsidiary of AT&T. Then AT&T dumped everyone in my state onto Frontier without so much as a by-your-leave. Result is that when I try to get my e-mail up and running again, I have to tell the robot that answers the phone at least six times that I don't have an AT&T account any longer. I've talked to three people at Yahoo since Friday, who (to be fair to them) have tried their best to fix the e-mail issue, but it always comes down to them saying that AT&T has a service outage at the moment and they can't do anything more.

I'm starting to think AT&T is run by AOC and her minions.

68 re : intentionally defrauded the federal government," McGovern shot back. "That is, in my opinion, breaking the law

A legislator's opinion has no bearing on the law; a legislature writes new laws and does not interpret old ones. [That's something you learn when you, you know, run for a legislature]

As for "defrauded", the actual word you're looking for is "abuse". Fraud is another of those pesky legal terms which have a real meaning: that's when you misrepresent your position to get a government advantage. Undersander abused the system but did it legal.

69 Not to step on any toes, but I need to make a short rant here about Vox Day.

I think the guy is very sharp, does a lot of good coverage on events in Europe you certainly won't get from their legacy media, and in general has done a great job of shifting the Overton window to the right. However, he has no talent at all when it comes to working with people who agree with him on 90% of things but differ over the other 10%.

Just today he made a post about a guy from the MGTOW (Men Going Their Own Way, basically seeking alternatives to marriage and kids for fulfillment) who had emailed him, explaining why feminism had made so many young men afraid to wade into the dating pool, and what helpful advice VD might have for such men, since he had declared his opposition to the MGTOW movement.

This was VD's response: "You quit. You're out. You're done. You ran from the battle. So be it. You don't count anymore. Now go off and die alone, as you've chosen."

How is this helpful in any way? I don't know a whole lot about the MGTOW, so maybe I'm off base, but there is no way the hard Right, or whatever you want to call it, is going to build a viable counter-movement to what passes for modern society if people like VD are telling anyone who doesn't subscribe to every point of their platform to piss off. I don't get it.

Tonight's story on The Twilight Zone is somewhat unique and calls for a different kind of introduction. This, as you may recognize, is a map of the Internet, and there's a little website there called Ace of Spades HQ. On a given evening not too long ago, the rest of the internet disappeared and Ace of Spades HQ was left all alone. Its inhabitants were never sure whether the internet was destroyed and only Ace of Spades HQ left untouched or whether the website had somehow been taken away...

Ah, I remember going to air shows at Moffett Field NAS as a kid. We actually lived close enough that the Blue Angels would fly low over our house during their shows (and practices). We'd always try to go on the last day, so we could hang out and watch the visiting aircraft leave. One year the B-52 did four fly-bys before bugging out, one pass with the bomb bay doors open. Pretty awesome. Alas, there hasn't been an air show at Moffett in at least 20 years.

121 and America, thanks to fracking, has become independent of that. Patrick J. Buchanan

It's not about whether America is independent of middle east oil, it's about the world and the money and political influence that the oil buys for its handlers. The arabs and persians have only ever used that money to do one thing - attack the world and try and spread islam everywhere. THey have done nothing but waste trillions in money they didn't deserve (since they only got the money because they stole the oil fields that others had found and built) and caused the world trillions more trying to stave off their threats and fix the shit they blew up so joyfully.

Sheesh. This ain't friggin rocket surgery. Anyone who knows even the tiniest bit of the history of the arabs would know that they couldn't be allowed much power or they would lay waste to everything they could - which is what they do. It's what they've always done.

Either way, at this point, the whole deferral of the ICE op looks like a debacle. Making normal, long-overdue and long abandoned normal internal enforcement a bargaining chip - for rule changes that can be circumvented by other, existing authorities to boot - is hard to see as other than idiotic.

And as noted earlier also, ignoring that the GOP is an equal obstacle to the Dems in [thus far, effectively] gutting Trump's key migration/border agenda will keep producing results like this - and like the related border $ supplemental that is likely to be CR, Take 3 - yet another debacle that continues the *worsening* of the situation.

169 bth, well stated. The Buchanan quote and things like it are really distortion plutonium - almost every premise is distorted, or outlandishly false and out of context.

No plausible scenario has ever involved prolonged American involvement, or any ground involvement. That's kind of the point: "containment" with a wink-wink because regime change in Tehran is obviously the only solution-like outcome. But we won't be doing the internal heavy lifting on that.

Meanwhile, the current sanctions effort [which had its origins back in Bush days] is probably uniquely effective in the history of such things. Iran is a very poor candidate to be coerced thru sanctions and isolation, due to size, resources, geography, history, etc., yet it's looking like they are trapped and weakened and likely to be defeated.

I get it. You wanted to ask her out on a date, but there's a rule about cops fraternizing with convicted felons, so you have to check. And the dozens of other cops had to check, too. I get what cops put up with, go through and deal with. They're just trying to keep society safe. That's why when a cop pulls someone over for a burned out license plate light bulb they keep one hand on their hip, which is not on their gun but close enough, just in case, because you never know. I mean, there's a reason a driver doesn't want his license plate illuminated. Connect the dots. You never abuse your authority. But always be vigilant, because license-plate-light-bulb guy might be trying to take the whole of civilization down, and you're the guy to stop that from happening. Life and death! 234 109 If McDonald's wants to optimize their operation execution they need to get rid of the double drive through. The drop out meth heads they hire ain't smart enough to handle it.
Posted by: These fish sticks are hard as tits

Sadly, the ones in my area don't appear to be meth heads, just dumb. I went through a period of time where I would pick up a McD's salad to take home. Over half the times I would get home and they would have given me the wrong salad or the wrong dressing. Two items!

The reason I am against increasing the minimum wage, some people aren't worth $10 per hour, much less $15.

242 217 I watched a silly, dated movie this afternoon on TCM called Don't Make Waves, from 1967. Claudia Cardinale and her tits--which were threatening to pop out at any moment--starred with Tony Curtis. Here's the thing--Cardinale looked like chopped liver because Sharon Tate was also in it.
What a Goddess.

Sharon Tate was a beauty. I was watching some goofy vampire flick from the late 60s (The Fearless Vampire Hunters). It was dumb. Apparently it was suppose to be. I fell in love with the lead actress. Had no idea who it was so I looked up the movie and found out it was Sharon Tate. Then I was sad. She really was a beauty. Newly discovered official documents released on Sunday suggest that Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) lived with her current husband Ahmed Abdisalan Hirsi during the entire time that she was legally married to Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, the man that critics allege is her brother..........

....The Star Tribune added:

The Star Tribune has sought to authenticate some of the most egregious allegations, using public records and available social media posts, which make up the bulk of the case against her.

Some of the original social media accounts linking Elmi to Omar after their split in 2011 appear to have been removed, and documents verifying the family relationships of refugees from war-torn countries with limited government record-keeping are notoriously hard to obtain, even by U.S. immigration authorities.

Omar declined to make her tax and immigration records available for this report.....

Omar still has not reconciled this with her IRS tax forms from those years.

Utah or Texas is looking mighty good to me at the moment. However, on a positive side this for me personally, could be a good thing a la your 1934 National Firearms Act. If I have this correct, intelligent forward thinking people who had as many lots of $200 as they could muster were serializing bits of pipe and paying the $200 to register a "machine gun". Then they would buy enough parts and manufacture some receiver parts to make the machine gun. Once the market supply was fixed the prices could only rise to where you know have to pay silly money to buy a transferable gun. Also a M16 with a giggle switch is NOT a machine gun. FFS

361 So, I am out in the yard this afternoon, in the midst of prepping to remove the flatdeck from a 1.5 ton truck I have had here for years.

Pogo, my dog came trotting up, and she was whining in the strangest way, seemed very distressed about something, and wanted me to know it. I got up off the ground from under the truck deck, and there was a pair of young Malemute dogs approaching Pogo and me. They weren't being hostile, just curious, but Pogo was alarmed, so I put here in the house.

Going back outside, the Malemutes had disappeared, but I whistled, and they came running. They wore collars and tags, but neither would let me approach close enough to read the tags.

I fished out my cell, and called the neighbors, and the eldest son and daughter came down. She took pictures of the dogs with her cellphone, and then got hold of one dog, and read a phone number off the tag, and dialed it. Turned out to be a relative of the folks that live a mile north. He came by in about five minutes, driving a big Dodge pickup I'd seen go by a half hour earlier. Dogs had been missing since last evening. He was real pleased to have them back.

And the doggos were happy, too, since I gave each one a dog biscuit.

369 340 I don't go to PowerLine much but I didn't get the feeling they were particularly NeverTrump. That's more HotAir and Patterico.

No, Powerline and Instapundit are basically the soul of skeptical sanity. No one should have expected Trump to be the second incarnation of St Ronald (and he isn't quite, and St Ronald had his share of weaknesses, one of which wasn't Twitter) and they didn't.

Place not your faith in princes. But as Presidents go, in my lifetime. if you divide them into thirds (15/15/15) and then top-five and bottom-five, you get IMHO:

JFK: maybe lower end of upper-third. Didn't do anything severely wrong, got a few things right. We got to the moon, and we didn't have to sink any Russian ships around Cuba.

LBJ: bottom-third, maybe bottom five. The economy did fine through his term, but he flip-flopped on civil rights for purely political benefit (and left black America in shit for decades), he kept but couldn't control JFK's Harvards on a variety of issues but notoriously Vietnam.

Nixon: could have been somewhere in the top third, though big-government GOP and gave us EPA but...so bottom end of middle-third because you-know-what, the biggest unforced error in American politics.

Ford: who? oh yeah, he was President when I registered for the draft and decided ROTC was not in my future. Mayaguez and all that. Top end of lower third. WIN.

Carter: bottom third, I'd rate him bottom five but there's so much competition.

Reagan: not perfect, but he knew One Big Thing and he killed on it. Mideast policy mostly a disaster and domestic policy a very mixed bag but history rates him on the USSR. Top-five.

Bush 41: he could have done better, bent the DoD to his will on Kuwait but...could have done better. Hard to push him out of the top third despite one-term and the private-right-of-action ADA.

Clinton: will go down in history highly despite a lot of crap, because economy, because the Balkan war worked, because letting the Chinese in didn't screw us until later. Above or below Bush 41? I'll put him a notch above just 'cause I made a lot more money under Clinton.

Bush 43: don't even. His response to 9/11 was weak, and then there was Iraq, wherein he sold his administration's soul to the Democrats to fund his war. And he gave us Obama. Bottom third.

Obama: Race-baiter, maybe agent of the mad mullahs, protected with sixteen inches of face-hardened blackdemocratium by the press but he's still probably in the bottom five. History may soften that but...not now. He's bottom five.

Bottom five, nothing. Barky is the worst, by orders of magnitude. It's not even a contest. Barky doesn't even have a shred of American sensibilities about him. Not a shred. He is the only actual America-hater who ever occupied the White House - and the people who voted for him did so specifically because he hated America so much.

On top of that, Barky was the dumbest by a long shot. It was almost laughable how stupid he was/is. But he almost took this nation down and we still don't know that we are going to make it through the shit he did. We have yet to pay the piper - and that debt will have to be paid at some point. That will probably be the point at which the whole American experiment ends.

I disagree. I think James Buchanan is probably worst, and James Madison probably second.

Buchanan could have prevented the Civil War, but didn't; Madison pushed the country into an existential conflict with the Brits over an issue that could readily have been negotiated away and we were saved by Bonaparte.

There's a lot of others down in the toilet, Carter, Wilson, and LBJ belong way down there, but you've got to make room for some of the early 19th century nullities.

And of course FDR was the best and the worst, a man who might go down in history as among the worst of our Presidents except for Hitler and Tojo, so as a war President well...unlike Bush 43 he didn't let failed generals have field commands for three years...

None of them set about to destroy America just because they hated this country and they hated Americans. Not even Carter. No other President even thought, while he was in office, of touring the world trying to blame America for every made up sin he could conjure in his fevered pea-brain. Only Barky. Barky was distinctly non-American and he was exactly the sort of influence and perversion of our system that the Founders tried to stop with the "natural born citizen" requirement.

Barky did as much destruction as he was able - and the big difference is that Barky did it intentionally. He set out to destroy us. He hated us and our country.

Whatever happened to Mexico's mysterious big purchases of American ag products, which PDT touted as one [incongruous, and sort of irrelevant] outcome of the tariff threat?

What will the new Iran sanctions be tomorrow?

What will happen with McAleenan? Can he continue - or be confirmed - if the allegations about his leaking the ICE op are not refuted, and a clear vote of confidence from PDT?

Will the WH legislative affairs shop let their boss know that his horse trade [ill advised] of deferring normal and desperately needed internal enforcement for legislative action on asylum fix has already gone as could have been predicted? That is, Dems pocket the bad move and instantly up the ante for their disastrous migration agenda? And while they're at it, let him know "his" party in the senate is about to help hand him his 3rd consecutive debacle on border/migration $$$ and policy in the form of the emergency supplemental?

448 With the DB605 engine, the oil would froth. It was never really fixed. Daimler blamed Messerschmidt for shoddy design and vice versa.

A Bf 109G-4/R2/Trop in RLM parlance is a G model fitted with the DB605 engine and larger sized tires which gave rise to small triangular bumps on the upper wing surfaces to accommodate the new tires. Like all G series a more paddle shaped prop replaced the thinner VDM prop of the F model. The tail structure was reinforced so the four stiffener strips found on all F models to prevent the tail from falling off due to engine harmonics were done away with.

R2 indicates a factory installed kit. In this case a camera fitted to underside just aft of the wing.

Trop means the plane has been fitted with an elongated sand filter over the supercharger intake. Also two little clips were installed on the left side just under the windscreen to allow a sun umbrella to fitted over the open cockpit.

451 The odd thing about incels is that from a leftwing/identity politics/socialist perspective their views and even demands make perfect sense.

If it is the job of the government to take from those with material success and give to those without, isn't it the same for romantic/sexual success?

Of course it is all silly without that lens, which is why incels make the left freakout - there is a whole movement now (well, sort of) dedicating to taking leftwing ideas to their absurd conclusion.

454 The author infers that Joseph Heller as a bombardier cut a deal because he left the theater after only 60 missions when at the time a crew needed 70 missions* to go home. So in the book Yossarian refuses a similar offer.

*Reason why the number of missions needed to be completed was so high was because the Italian campaign was already being relegated to a lesser priority and USAAF units were transferred so the remaining units had to pick up the slack.

Posted by: boulder t'hobo at June 24, 2019 02:04 AM (ykYG2)

457 Vlad, wander into the Luftwaffe forums and it still gets dicey. For example was RLM DunkelBlau ever really used will set off people mostly because they don't read the whole post. The answer is, barring a cache of late war color photos surfacing, no one knows. And even that could start a fight.

Right now looking at one site showing a black and white photo of a Bf 109G as captured by the Tommies. Poster claims the side number is Red 14. Except that is wrong since there is at least one color photo of the same Gustav with US star and RAF fin-flash showing it to be Black 14. And most sources say the plane is a G-2 except this one black and white photo clearly shows the extended fuel line running next to the oblique photo installation along with sand filter, so the plane really appears to be a G-4/R-2/Trop.

And then the fighting started.

I popped over to get his take on matters European -- during the Brexit vote he was vote helpful -- instead he was on an anti-American tear -- so fuck him.

476 I have always wondered about the " inverted V" engines like the DBs. They used a dry sump engine like most ( all?) aircraft engines of the era, but the natural tendency is for gravity to carry the oil to the "sump" and mostly away from the working bits.
In the inverted Vs, gravity works the same way, but the oil would try to fill the pistons, although at 3000 RPM the filling is probably largely theoretical. As a very long term mechanic, I can imagine the oil always being airated, and needing extra time in the oil tank for the air to separate out.
I know the DB engines worked, but could/would they have been better under extreme conditions?

478 Okay, finally plowed my way thru the Mis Hum linked Intercept 'journalist' article, and I have some thoughts.

1. Well he keeps a journal; must be a journalist.

2. He ain't very bright. Throughout history, it's a cardinal rule that you don't try to get under the skin of a gubmint bureaucrat with power over you...

If you beard the bear, you get clawed.

3. He's a racist. Throughout the article, he claimed that his White Privilege protected him, and that a person of color would have fared far worse. He presented no evidence of that, just his opinion and a couple of anecdotes.

Which are like, evidence, dude.

4. More dumbness, or at least proof that he isn't very well read -- I've known about these warrantless Border Patrol device searches for ages. If you have sensitive info on your equipment, leave it at home.

Now he does.

All that said, of course I am disturbed about these crystal clear violations of the 4th Amendment, especially of a US citizen on US soil.

Thanks a lot, SUPREME COURT, for failing fuckingly miserably at YOUR ONE FUCKING JOB. Here, let me quote it to y'all since RBG seems to lose her copy of the Constitution on a regular basis:

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

You're welcome, dummies.

Holy crap, are they still on that kick?

Nothing for D-Day, nothing for Flag Day, but two weeks straight of "we'll keep you updated on breaking scores!"

I say this as a college football fan: Probably not 2% of the population cares about breaking scores and updates regarding a wildly popular, local, and personally-connected sport with the best in the nation playing at high levels.

Womens soccer? I bet you could fit the total number of people who give a half a sh*t about it at all in one average sized college football stadium.

I recall reading a study some years back that said only about 1/3 of our youth are suited to attend and graduate from 4 years of College.

Only 60% of people who start a 4 year program graduate from College with some sort of Bachelors degree. And the Government even pads that data because their stats look at the graduation-rate for 6 years of College.

And the graduation rate drops to 25% at schools that let anyone in that can pay.
