Rooster Cogburn, the movie with John Wayne, was the sequel to True Grit, which was where the lawman Rooster Cogburn first appeared.

Debate is always heavy as to which Rooster Cogburn is better, John Wayne or Jeff Bridges. I personally favor John Wayne for the character, but I think the Jeff Bridges version is a better movie.

In the online video game "Fishdom," which Miss Linda is currently obsessed with, you can buy decorations to put in your virtual tank. Two of them are mermaids! One is wearing a white blouse, and the other has a nice D-shell bikini top. Unfortunately they're just decorations instead of "live" fishy occupants. But I told her it was about time there was something to the game that a male over the age of nine could enjoy.

The new version is quite faithful to the novel, even more so than the 1969 film. But the new one is so . . . muted . . . in its colors and lighting. The 1969 version bursts off your screen.

Ha - you want to know what the real "Tell" in that article is? Where it says "Cameron teamed up with Joe Romm..."

Those of us who have followed the Clinton's over the years know that Joe Romm has been one of the Clinton's "Made Men" since the early 90's. He's been in on every dirty deal they ever pulled, he's been one of their key men pushing every aspect of the Climate Scam at every level, and he's been a top lieutenant of John Podesta, Hillary's campaign manager who was instrumental in setting up and orchestrating the entire "Russia Collusion!" scandal.

106 We need free enerji for people of color because enerji powers emoji and it's a free speech issue because old white men are keeping the enerji for themselves by using fossil fuels, which means there's not, like, enough enerji for people of color to have the emoji they need to communicate. That's why we need renewable enerji for everyone. And maybe some white-male-fired power plants. This is all established by academic research, ok?

Rooster Cogburn, the movie with John Wayne, was the sequel to True
Grit, which was where the lawman Rooster Cogburn first appeared.

Debate is always heavy as to which Rooster Cogburn is better, John
Wayne or Jeff Bridges. I personally favor John Wayne for the character,
but I think the Jeff Bridges version is a better movie.

And nobody did Ned Pepper better than Robert Duvall.

Posted by: tom servo at June 25, 2019 09:40 AM (V2Yro)

I like the Cohen version better but not by much. One thing I don't recall having been discussed here before is the Wayne Rio Bravo, El Dorado, Rio Lobo trilogy. As I recall it, it is the same movie made three times. Don't get me wrong, I love the story, it is right up my alley. I love the idea of a group of tough men standing together etc. But to make the same moving three times is notable. I wish he made it four times. I do not Rio Bravo was supposed to be an answer to High Noon.

E. Jean Carroll, the woman who accused Trump of rape, told Anderson
Cooper that by her definition rape is not sexual and that it doesn't
involve sexual contact.

So it wasn't rape-rape.

That story is so weird, and I'll admit I haven't followed it closely.

So, this woman claims she saw Trump in Bergdorf's and he was shopping for lingerie for Marla Maples, and asked if she'd try something on. And she did.

Who the hell says, "Sure, I'll model some lingerie for you, person I don't really know."

Well I haven't been following this story, because I see enough crazy in my real world, but I think that's a convoluted way of saying the old saying, which is about rape not being a "sex" crime, since the intent of the rapist is often not sexual, but power and dominance.

Or something. So if this broad is struggling with the "sexual contact" concept, it's her hangup on the word.

When he's talking to Mattie, Rooster tells her how in the end he got away from the New Mexicans by charging straight at all 7 of them, both pistols blazing, and how most normal men can't take that, and will turn and run when faced with that coming at them. That's how he got away.

In the big, final confrontation with Ned Pepper's gang, Rooster Cogburn takes them down by charging straight at them on horseback, shooting both pistols. Just as he told Mattie he likes to do.

285 210 I heard excerpts on Larry O'Connor's show yesterday of the interview this E. Jean Carroll woman did yesterday morning on, I think, MSNBC (is that where Alison Camerota is?). This Carroll woman is, to put it very charitably, not all there. Or a druggie, or a drunk, or maybe all of the above. But she made absolutely no sense at all. None.
Posted by: bluebell at June 25, 2019 10:09 AM (aXucN)"

That was a VERY telling interview, for those who have some skill at reading people. (and I think most of us do, some practice more than others)

The lefty's are interpreting her obvious fear at the end as fear of Trump (their projected fantasies) and others, more justifiably, are saying it just proves how nuts she is. (true that) But I think there's another very obvious way to read her demaeanor - she's been an "advice" columnist, a gossip columnist with society friends her whole life, it's clear she's lived a life of spouting off snide and nasty things without every having to worry about consequences because of who she is.

So she thought (because she's stupid and has always gotten away with it before) that she could drop this little bomb in her book and just walk away laughing. And you could see on her face, in that interview, that this isn't going to work that way, that she just stuck herself in the middle between two POWERFUL enemies, and she is now going to be the object of intense inspection and action by both of them. (I predict the left more than the right, when they realize she won't do what they want)

and you can see the realization that she's just set herself up as a target break over her face in the middle of that interview. Clearly, the thought never had occurred to her before, although it should have.

Le sigh...

I remember 2016. There's a guy here at work I like, but he's soft liberal. Kind of default that way based on media intake.

Anyway, when McConnell announced that he wasn't going to bring Garland's nomination to the floor at all, this guy went nuts. "There's no way Trump or Republicans will ever win again after this outrage! This unconstitutional outrage!"

I laughed at him and told him that it was perfectly constitutional and that no one cared about the issue enough to make it a deciding factor (especially in favor of Democrats).

could be so. I think the whole tarszhey thing was originally a joke about it being upscale on the lower end, pseudo sophisticated. And I must admit, the present CEO has turned it around of late. A lot of this has to do with Trump's economy and strong retail in many areas.

The end goal is to make car ownership too expensive for the anyone but the ultra rich. It's always disguised as helping the environment or building new infrastructure or some other bullshit. But the only goal is to essentially ban private owernship of cars and force everyone into Soviet style apartment complexes in cities.

I don't understand how personal property tax works. We have relatively poor folks here who own beater cars and old aluminum rowboats with outboard motors. 440 I do not understand how it is that the citizenry came to accept property tax based on value in the first place. It is a tax on capital.

Way back, the property tax here was determined by the front footage of property. The idea being that the cost to the municipality to provide services approximately corresponded to that front footage, which is fairly rational.

Why and how the politicians managed to foist a tax on the public based on property value, is beyond me.

There is exactly -zero- correlation between the value of a property and the municipal support cost, let alone the owner's ability to pay that tax.

I suppose that, like most taxes, it started out as "Oh, it's only $25.00 a year..."

Now we have older homeowners whose property value soared, struggling to pay the damned property tax. It's obscene.

Oh, and, it's never enough. Never.

Michigan has the Headlee Amendment limited property tax revenue from property tax assessment increasing. It was passed in the '70s when retirees were suddenly being tax-auctioned out of their homes. But cars, boats, etc. are registered, not taxed outright.
