Your Right To Protest Ends At My Property Line

I have no illusions about the state of animal welfare at this farm. Whether they treat their animals appropriately is still in question, but the news reports I have read are distinctly one-sided, and that makes me very, very suspicious.

But there are other issues: property rights being foremost among them. I'm no lawyer, but what these "activists" did sure sounds like breaking and entering. And maybe toss in vandalism. Whatever happened to peaceful protest? 'Almost Decapitating My Head:' Animal Rights Activist Upset After Chaining Himself To Machine

And where do these people learn to speak English?

"Almost decapitating my head from my neck," Chiang told ABC7. "I was feeling my life leave my body, as I was struggling to get out of that lock."
"We have to escalate all of our actions because this is a global crisis we're under,"
Yes, yes, it's the progressive newspeak that masquerades as ideas. But can't they use proper grammar. and have some passing knowledge of vocabulary?

Again, I am not justifying the conditions at this duck farm, but the progressive conceit that the law doesn't apply to them because they have some elevated privilege to right the perceived wrongs of society smacks of elitism.

50 "...the progressive conceit that the law doesn't apply to them because they

It is virtue LARPing as a policy position. The protester justifies their actions via their moral virtue, and like all of the far left, frames any criticism or consequences of their actions through this moral lens. It is as predictable as watching paint dry.

The far left accusations of "racist" and what not are just another variant of this strategy. Defame the moral agency of those they don't like by casting aspersions about their moral character because who listens to what evil people have to say?

Democrats have been doing this for more then 40 years on transfer payment programs (think Medicaid/Social Security). Any expressed desire to fix the current broken system is met with attacks on the moral agency of those trying to fix things, "You want grandma to eat dog food."

55 >>It's the aim of the socialist dems... They want us all to move to the cities and live in high rise apartments while they take our land... It is the ultimate goal

As a Congressman, Jared Polis attempted to make a large portion of Eagle County (Vail area) off-limits to anything motorized by designating it a "hidden gem." That meant no emergency vehicles (rescue helicopters and ambulances, firefighting transportation), no chainsaws, no bicycles (until they made a carve-out for miffed mountain bikers), no snowmobiles - basically, hikers only. This "hidden gem" needed to be protected from the people who lived near it and had enjoyed so that virtuous outsiders could walk in it undisturbed.

Best part? This would have meant that the nearby high altitude helicopter pilot training facility - the only one of its kind in the world - would have been unable to fly above it.

This is the outsiders' mindset when they come to Colorado and discover its beauty: it must be protected from the locals, preserved just for my enjoyment since I alone appreciate its majesty.

Some poultry standards seemed a little cruel ... I think they have upgraded some. In general, livestock treated poorly is not good for production or profits. I'd be glad to see more people develop small farms and produce locally, rather than giant "factory farms" owned by distant globalists, that hire illegals (who they also treat poorly).

A number of years ago, a Democratic Congresswoman from Connecticut went on vacation to Wyoming, and was so stunned by Wyoming's beauty that she went back to Washington and proposed a bill that would have basically turned Wyoming into a wilderness area.

She was astonished when Wyoming politicians opposed this wonderful piece of legislation.

Liberalism is based on the heretical belief that intentions > results.

No matter how many people suffer, if you meant well, there is no sin.

This is why nothing they support actually works, and they never apologize for failure.

It's also how they can do a 180 on something and not care about the hypocrisy because their intentions remain pure.

BTW, this belief system can only work in a society well-insulated from immediate, personal consequences for failure.

That may not be the case much longer. I joke about the rain here, but farmers have missed the window to plant. No crops go on = no food comes out. May be a lean winter this year.

149 How will climate change affect the Great Lakes? by Grant Goodrich
December 22, 2009
...
In reading through the many reports on this subject, most climate models suggest that we may see declines in lake levels over the next 100 years; one suggests that we may see declines of up to 2.5 meters (8.2 feet). Granted, this is hardly conclusive; another model that suggests a "wetter" future climate over the Great Lakes projects a small increase in lake levels. The truth is likely somewhere in between, with water levels falling between 0.23 meters and 2.5 meters.
---------------------------------------------

Warming Lakes: Climate Change and Variability Drive Low Water Levels on the Great Lakes
November 20, 2012
...
A 2002 National Geographic magazine story, Down the Drain: The Incredible Shrinking Great Lakes, documents declining lake levels and the potential economic and ecological consequences for the region. Ten years later, the story continues to unfold, as water levels remain lower than normal.

Lake Levels Remain Below the Long-term Average The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) began keeping coordinated water level records in 1918. They base "events" on calculations of monthly average lake level. Lake Michigan-Huron, considered one lake for hydrological studies because of the connection at the Straits of Mackinac, was 576.6 feet (175.74 meters) above sea level in October. The all-time record low for all months occurred in March 1964, when the lake dropped to 576.0 feet (175.58 meters).
--------------------------------------------

The Great Lakes are overflowing with record amounts of water
June 6, 2019
...
"Over the past two decades, water levels on the Great Lakes have gone through an unprecedented period of persistent below-average conditions, a record-setting rate of water level rise and, now, a series of record-setting high levels," said Drew Gronewold, a hydrologist at the University of Michigan. While experts work to better understand the effects of climate change on Great Lakes water levels, they are seeing increased evidence of a new normal, characterized by rapid shifts between extreme high and low levels. To see this in action, we need look no further than the flooding of today, compared with the record lows six years ago. "We are undoubtedly observing the effects of a warming climate in the Great Lakes," wrote Richard Rood, a University of Michigan climate scientist. "We are at the beginning of what's going to be a number of decades where the climate is going to be changing very fast. During that time, we will have many unexpected weather events, and we need to learn from these events to better prepare for the future."
-----------------------------------------------

Also from the middle article above:

Great Lakes water levels normally fluctuate throughout the year and from one year to the next depending on climate conditions. The lakes naturally cycle between periods of high water and low water, but abrupt changes in annual water levels are not unusual. These fluctuations are due to climate variability and are considered vital to a healthy ecosystem.
---------------------------------------------

In other words, if the Great Lake levels ever don't hit extreme *enough* levels for too long that will ALSO be due Global Warming. I guess socialism is the only answer.

167 So, I tried a couple of news articles to figure out what's going on here and I couldn't.

The Reichhardt Duck Farm slaughters 1 mm ducks a year. That makes it sound more like a knacker than a farm. Do they have space for 1 mm ducks?

And they provide ducks to local restaurants. Again, 1 mm seems high.

And they treat the animals poorly and some are supposed to be starving. Now, if they are in fact a farm and they sell to restaurants and poultry wholesalers why would they starve the animals?

"Here, it's $5 a duck no matter what the duck looks like. That's right, and we'll save $1 in feed by selling you a starved duck. You want to buy a starved duck, right?"

I agree. It's a better novel and only half as long. I still liked "Atlas Shrugged", though.

I also recommend her first novel, "We the Living". It's about a young woman in the Soviet Union of the 1920s. She said many years later that it was the closest she would ever come to writing an autobiography.

When she escaped to the West, she had trouble getting it published. One publisher told her point-blank that she didn't understand Communism.

There is also a 1938 novella called "Anthem". It's set in a collectivist society in the distant future. In some ways it eerily presages "1984" but I know of no evidence that Orwell ever saw it.

Posted by: Anonymous White Male at June 16, 2019 02:17 PM (m79Dg)

238 One of Rand's blind spots, I believe, was that she couldn't understand the rise of things like Cartels, of the Tech Giants, non governmental entities who are still able to accumulate such vast powers that they can completely dominate a population. I know the mantra is that "competition" will keep them restrained, but once players achieve a certain level of power, that doesn't really work anymore.

And it's even worse when *all* the players decide it would be much more profitable for them to dispense with the current population and bring in a new, much more compliant population in their place.

It's true, it's true, the crown has made it clear
The climate must be perfect all the year

A law was made a distant moon ago here
July and August cannot be too hot
And there's a legal limit to the snow here in Camelot

The winter is forbidden till December
And exits March the second on the dot
By order, summer lingers through September in Camelot

Camelot: Camelot
I know it sounds a bit bizarre
But in Camelot: Camelot
That's how conditions are

The rain may never fall till after sundown
By eight, the morning fog must disappear
In short, there's simply not a more congenial spot
For happily ever after in than here in Camelot

Camelot: Camelot
I know it gives a person pause
But in Camelot: Camelot
Those are the legal laws

The snow may never slush upon the hillside
By nine p.m. the moonlight must appear
In short, there's simply not a more congenial spot
For happily ever after in than here in Camelot

the "capitalist" right has used their (government policy and war backed) market riches (capital) to buy the Republicans, who now also lie to us and deceive us about their intent to maintain sovereignty and liberty. They also are first and foremost serving the richest, the "elite".

Statesmen in government (ideally) have to protect us from both influences. Instead they got bought by "capitalists" with no love of country (which stands for liberty, not "free trade"). The EU somehow also bought Europe ... they didn't even have to deceitfully win elections.

248 We're knights of the round table
We dance whene'er we're able
We do routines and scenes
With footwork impeccable.
We dine well here in Camelot
We eat ham and jam and spam a lot.

We're knights of the Round Table
Our shows are formidable
But many times we're given rhymes
That are quite unsingable
We're opera mad in Camelot
We sing from the diaphragm a lot.

In war we're tough and able.
Quite indefatigable
Between our quests we sequin vests
And impersonate Clark Gable
It's a busy life in Camelot.

I have to push the pram a lot.
