A blue flag is telling a slower car that a faster car is approaching it and to move over. In a 24 hour race with 4 classes of cars, those blue flags wave quite a bit.

The Oberlin verdict appears to have flipped.....David French.

Posted by: Miklos, surprised, which is surprising at June 16, 2019 07:07 AM (QzkSJ)

---
What "flipped" David French was Sohrab Amari taking a (rhetorical) baseball bat to his knee and when French sat on the ground crying and playing victim, almost the entire conservative movement pointed at him and laughed.

I don't visit Twitter often, but it was fascinating to see him (and his wife) wander around, crying for attention and getting nothing but the Nelson Muntz "Ha-ha" in response. Everyone who rose to his defense had almost zero followers, indicating it was a bot or a sock-puppet.

Tangentially, Jonah Goldberg decided to pick a fight with Kurt Schlichter (bad idea) who gave him the back of his hand and while Jonah blubbered away about how *mean* he was, with his mean name-calling. The highlight was when Jonah accused Col. Kurt of making "personal attacks."

Schlichter's reponse: No, I didn't, because when I make a personal attack, you'll KNOW it, little boy.

Goldberg then whinged about civility and Schlichter replied "I say what I want, little man."

The grift is up. French is desperately trying to remain relevant, and I can see him banging away at the laptop in his cuckshed, sweat dripping down his forhead as his eyes twitch toward the house, looking to see if the bull has left and he can start getting ready for church.

But that's the point - the jar is getting empty.

Magazines like NR never make money. That's not their point, their point is to influence opinion.

The billionaires paying the rent are looking at them and seeing the money isn't doing anything. That's why TWS folded up - the guy who was footing the bill saw that his vanity press was increasingly irrelevant.

Goldberg is now literally sitting on his couch sending out emails in lieu of publishing. Think about that - guy can't even afford a two-bit web site and domain. Maybe he can borrow one from his mom.

"David French-ism" is now a term of ridicule, a byword for ineffective political activity. French is trying to remain relevant, but it won't work because his entire persona is based on being a holier-than-thou useless tool.

I had a delightful two-hour phone conversation with my father on Friday. I didn't have that good of a relationship with him growing up. He's not comfortable around kids and my parents were divorced.

But as I reached adulthood, I came to appreciate his wisdom and understand that he's not the kind of guy to gush about how he feels. What my mom insisted was coldness was in fact his natural reserve. Very happy to have gotten to know him as well as I have and I am acutely aware that he won't be around forever.

That's similar to my relationship with my mother. To call it 'strained' is a gross understatement.

However, I got along famously with her mother. Lived with her for a couple of years and often spent the summers there.

I think about her a lot, often quote her as *the* authority on questions of taste and etiquette. She died - wow - almost 14 years ago (right after my youngest was born).

One day this spring, I made a tuna salad sandwich the way she always did and served it to my youngest. I explained to her why this was the best tuna salad in the world and how serving it the right way is very important (bread must be toasted and cut into finger-sized slices, etc.).

I said that someday if she has kids, she can make the exact same way, and so a whole new generation would get to appreciate my grandmother.

I see #1 happens many times. Where the old man wants to be the old man and in charge. Or the son decides to stay the child for emotional or financial support. I think this is what often leads to #2, zero relationship as amanomosty and resentment cause alienation. #3 is hard for both sides. As the son you decide to grow up and take card of life. As the father you have to sit back and watch thing that may hurt.

I got there with my Dad and I still miss him.

I think the Dems expected it to be more strident. The problem was the Mueller wanted to maintain the veneer of detached professionalism, which made it into a jumble of jargon and weak arguments.

Plus, there was the problem that they found nothing and couldn't hide that.

The dumb thing was for them to omit/alter critical information, which leaves them open to vicious questioning by GOP congresscritters.

Which is why Mueller can't testify because they will eat him alive on that.

"Mr. Mueller, is it standard practice to omit key exculpatory evidence when preparing a report? Mr. Mueller, why didn't you present the full quote? Isn't this supposed to be a finding of fact?"

That's why impeachment won't work because the defense team will call him as their first witness.

165 So they don't care about shoftlifters. The poor little (and for the most part they're not poor. they come from Middle class and upper Middle class backgrounds according to some poster on Legal Insurrection) get one free pass and Oberlin doesn't want them reported to the police.....because black.... and even though the majority of incidents of shoplifting at Oberlin have not been by black students. if you're underage and want that wine you're damn well entitled to it. Yes, this goes over really well with "average" Americans.

169 >>Actual word from Oberlin:

Gibson bakerys archaic chase-and-detain policy regarding suspected shoplifters was the catalyst for the protests. The guilt or innocence of the students is irrelevant to both the root cause of the protests and this litigation.
- - -
And that's really it: Oberlin wants to be the law. Colleges in general want to be the law, as we've seen with their poor handling of a *criminal* matter: sexual assault. With their campus courts they have subverted out long-established justice system, replaced with concepts such as "guilt until proven innocent," "social justice" (justice based on the accused and accuser's group membership, not the facts), etc..

Gibson's did not cede criminal authority to Oberlin. so they had to be destroyed. Further, Oberlin denies the verdict of the civil lawsuits because it again does not cede authority to Oberlin to decide if what they did was wrong.

Oh, and happy Father's day, horde!

"Gibson bakerys archaic chase-and-detain policy regarding suspected shoplifters was the catalyst for the protests. The guilt or innocence of the students is irrelevant to both the root cause of the protests and this litigation."

Ok what's funny there is that NOW they say this? After 2 1/2 years of harassment and a full trial and everything that went on, NOW is the first time they say this???? (Ignore the fact that the Police were called to the scene at the time of the crime and they had no problem with Gibson's actions)

It's more like they never gave this issue any thought at all, and now that they're upset some other lawyer somewhere said "hey, why don't you guys try this line?"

well, too late. There's a rule about Appeals that their genius general counsel has apparently never heard of - you can't bring up any issues on appeal that you didn't bring up at the original trial. In civil cases like this, once you've blown the chance to make your case, you've blown it.

and lets just ignore the fact that this case wasn't about "motivations" at all, it was about the actions that the administrators took long after the fact.
