Why do the companies that sell “not meat”—Frankenfoods made from plant cells and/or vegetable cocktails—spend millions of dollars to make it look exactly like meat? Wouldn’t that be a contradiction in vegetarian philosophy? “I’ve decided to chew leaves the rest of my life, but I want all the leaves to look like hot dogs.” Joe Bob Briggs Quote II "Your mom made her choice, and we're all here with the consequences of that choice." Rep. Katie Porter (D-CA) Quote III “Congress continues to fail us. Not only blocking the president’s efforts but actually passing a bill this week that would give two and a half million Dreamers amnesty, a signal to illegals that not only will they let you in and pay for food, housing, education, medical and travel, but sooner or later they’ll give you amnesty after they release you into the interior proving yet another incentive for illegals to cross,” Judge Jeanine Pirro Please pass the popcorn. (AP) — After California detectives used a popular online DNA database to track down a suspect in the decades-old Golden State Killer slayings, other police agencies quickly adopted the same technique. Since that case was cracked last year, at least 50 other killings and rapes have been solved nationwide by using partial DNA matches to find suspects’ relatives, whose identities can lead to arrests. But complaints about invasion of privacy have produced a backlash, leading the Florida-based database known as GEDmatch to change its policies. The nonprofit website’s previous practice was to permit police to use its database only to solve homicides and sexual assaults. But its operators granted a Utah police department an exception to find the assailant who choked unconscious a 71-year-old woman practicing the organ alone in church. The assailant’s DNA profile led detectives to the great-uncle of a 17-year-old boy. The teen’s DNA matched the attacker’s, and he was arrested. Not content to let brewers be, the State of New Jersey needs more regulations. Last week, New Jersey regulators pumped the brakes on the state's craft beer industry. The state's Alcohol Beverage Control board (ABC) issued a special ruling that restricts breweries in the state in a number of ways—including who, what, when, and how they can serve. The new rules replace others the ABC had planned to adopt last year. Facing pushback from brewers, the ABC decided to pull back and ponder the rules. James Graziano, acting ABC director, said in a statement announcing the new rules that the ABC chose to work with "the very few, very vocal licensees who felt their views were not adequately represented." Yet after all that pondering and listening to breweries, the special ruling itself notes that it's "substantially similar" to the 2018 ruling. Quite the sale price on this hip piece of clothing, only $1,311.00. Hey, it had been $2,850.00. Not all Democrats favor Paste Eating Uncle Joe Biden. In case you haven't noticed, President Obama's former chief campaign strategist David Axelrod has been going hard at Joe Biden of late. Starting on Friday, Axelrod knocked Biden's "flip-flop-flip" over his longstanding support for the Hyde amendment, which bans federal funding for most abortions. Parents of students which attend Washington D.C.'s most prominent private school are acting up. The motto of Sidwell Friends School, the hyperselective “Harvard of Washington’s private schools,” is simple and lofty. “Eluceat omnibus lux”—Latin for “Let the light shine out from all.” But bright lights sometimes illuminate the worst in people. Last month, shocking behavior by parents may have led two of the school’s three college counselors to leave their jobs. When Bernie Sanders crashed Walmart’s shareholder meeting Wednesday and lectured executives on how they should run their business, CEO Doug McMillon should have laughed him out of the room for his ill-informed claims and for pushing a minimum wage hike that would hurt the very people it’s supposed to help. Instead, McMillon waved the white flag. He told the company’s owners that the current federal minimum wage is “too low” and that “it’s time for Congress to put a thoughtful plan in place to increase the minimum wage.” Let’s look at what Sanders claimed in his remarks. Right off the bat, he displayed his ignorance of how publicly traded companies work. “Despite the incredible wealth of its owner,” Sanders said, “Walmart pays many of its employees starvation wages.” 5 Republicans Who Voted for Amnesty Bill Also Voted for Gun Control a Few Months Ago I want to thank CBD for subbing for me here at The ONT. Here is a long distance dedication to the foodie himself, CBD. Don't shoot Alexa or the police. 1st Runner Up, Genius Award Winner. NEW PORT RICHEY — Two Pasco County Sheriff’s deputies were wounded early Saturday in a gun battle that started after a man shot at his wife's Amazon Alexa smart speaker. Deputies arrived at 7349 Humbolt Ave. after a woman called 911 around midnight to report a domestic dispute between her parents. Peterson had shot at her mother's Alexa, the daughter told deputies. The couple had been known to fight but usually their arguments did not escalate to calling the police, Nocco said. A Greenwich Village man was allegedly robbed by a date he met on Grindr — but told cops he couldn’t scream for help because he had “a jock strap and ball gag in his mouth,” police sources said Monday. Police responded to a call of a home invasion robbery around 3 a.m. Saturday at the 26-year-old victim’s apartment on Greenwich Street, police said. Where there is smoke, there is fire and heroes. Tonight's Feel Good Story of The Day. A 90-year-old woman in Tulsa, Oklahoma, was rescued by four young heroes after a fire consumed her bedroom and she was unable to escape on her own. Catherine Ritchie said she was in the bathroom getting ready for bed when she turned around and saw her bed on fire. She attempted to put out the fire but quickly gave up, called 911 and hit her emergency call button. "The smoke was so bad, I couldn't see to get out of my room," she said. That's where her heroes come in. Four boys between the ages of 14 and 17 were in a nearby home when they noticed the smell. Tonight's ONT has been brought to you by Parental Motivation. The thing about "not meat" is that the motivation behind it is a guarantee that it's going to be unhealthy for you.
It's made by people who are convinced that humans should never eat meat, and that we need to have a meat substitute for all those idiots who are too weak-willed to stop eating it. So it will not have ANYTHING in it that is required to keep you alive. Sorry, assholes. We need meat. And your substitute will NOT have the things my body requires. Jane D'oh -- Your husband is lucky the doctors identified his Type 1 diabetes so quickly. A friend of mine went round and round with her doctors for nearly three years before the doctors finally diagnosed her as a Type 1.
The problem with diabetes is the dieticians. Yes, diabetics tend towards more heart issues than non-diabetics. The dieticians have a knee jerk reaction to the idea of heart issues, totally skip over the diabetes, and insist diabetics follow a very strict heart diet -- which happens to be the exact wrong thing. When I was first diagnosed with diabetes, I couldn't understand why my blood sugar was never below 170. After all, as the dietician had ordered, I had eliminated every bit of fat from my diet. I finally woke up to the fact that neither meat nor fat contained any carbs. It was everything else that was driving my blood sugar up. Good luck to you and your husband. I had the Beyond Meat hot Italian sausage tonight. It was okay. It helped that I made spaghetti with it and I can do some spaghetti. With sauce, grated cheese, al dente pasta etc, it was decent. I would say it would fool a drunk guy who was used to poor cooking growing up if you didn't tell him it was fake. The negative things that stood out were the slightly off texture, the funny smell, and the lack of that oily mouth feel you get from Italian sausage.
I had the Impossible Burger a while back and it was probably a better fake. Most I have heard from so far think the Impossible Burger is a better attempt at real meat. That one was pretty close when you cover it in all the standard hamburger components. I think they went a little crazy with the smoke flavor but that was likely by design. If you add enough smoke flavor you wont catch many off tastes or any other tastes. I would like to try that one again since something didn't agree with me that night. I won't say it was the burger after one try but I haven't craved the thing since. It was cool to try, but there have been many real burgers since. Life in Woke America.
From Twitter- A rural, transgender, fat activist is having some roommate issues: To the people ignoring the words I actually used in this thread: I'm talking about my asshole roommate who is not involved in any org who shot a fucking hole in the floor of my apartment this weekend after ages of lecturing me on how the left needs to arm itself. Worse yet, the transgender person can't go to the cops, because the perpetrator isn't straight: I actually kind of wish the person who has terrorized me with a gun most recently was cis because then I might feel more comfortable protecting myself legally. As it stands I just have to run because she's going to end up killing one of us or the cats with her bullshit However, I did discover a new level of intersectionality and wokeness on this thread: a huge problem is how cismale (and white) online communism tends to be. it's all revering masculine professions (mining, manufacturing, building) and ignoring how often these are the same people doing or supporting the oppression. Communism! No longer woke enough! Soviet propaganda should have idolized fat, disabled people, rather than burly proletarians. It gets worse. Ever notice how socialist propaganda portrays the workers as thin, and the capitalists as fat? Bad, bad, bad. People need a refresher on how socialists have repeatedly used fat as a metaphor for the various evils of capitalism in both art and literature. Seriously? Seriously. AOC vs. Kirsten Gillibrand goes to AOC. I'll put cash on that right now.
When Gillibrand first ran for the House, she was a take-one-for-the-team losing candidate, until those 911 calls to her opponent's house became known. That was 2006, when just being a Democrat was practically enough to win. All Gillibrand said was "I'm against domestic violence" and she sailed to a win. Then Hillary Clinton got appointed secretary of state, and Gillibrand got appointed to the Senate to fill her seat. In the last twelve years, Kirsten Gillibrand hasn't done anything. I've noticed that hospital food is loaded with carbs and sugar.
probably they think that "easily digestible" trumps "good for you" when you're hospitalized. I can digest red meat but ONLY with significant time - which means I need to eat it no later than lunch, or I'm not going to sleep a wink. people in the hospital aren't exercising, they need to stay quiet, so they probably lean towards foods that are calmer on the tum. JG- I like my guy. He comes highly respected. With his guidance, my health has markedly improved and all my heart issues are gone. My numbers are all in the normal to good range. Sleep apnea gone.
Fair enough, Tonypete, and I rejoice (seriously, not sardonically) in your improved health. Re physicians, let me play devil's advocate aka contrarian asshole here. Highly respected ...by whom? For what? On what basis? These are apposite questions, it would seem. Remember Rasputin was highly respected, too. (I'm not casting any aspersions here on your cardiologist, far from it, but my point is that popular regard is a dodgy basis for reposing faith in someone.) Now I go to physicians as well, and I weigh their advice heavily. Not 100% credence, but heavily, nonetheless. I was referred to a cardiologist for shortness of breath (turned to be allergies, but never mind) who on reviewing my blood work mumbled something about cholesterol. I posed the question above to him, and was met by ... crickets. Here's the thing. Most cholesterol is biosynthetic, i.e., synthesized by the body. Only 15% is dietary. Since most biosynthetic pathways are under feedback control, presumably (I don't know), ingesting less dietary cholesterol would up-regulate the biosynthetic pathway to maintain homeostasis. (Homeostasis is a central theme in physiology. Think temperature: 98.6. A degree or two above or below is a cause for concern.) Posted by: Deplorable Jay Guevara at June 10, 2019 11:00 PM (YqDXo) 209

A Portland radical (who ran for mayor and got ten percent of the vote) on the ecological advantages of homelessness:
If you're not counting our unhoused neighbors as a "frontline community" in the climate crisis, you're not thinking about this correctly. They are LIGHT YEARS ahead of housed people in understanding its impacts and could be leading on solutions if we made it so. ... Unhoused folks are ahead of the curve in disaster prep, resilience, low-carbon mobility, reducing consumption...list goes on and on. The human feces and needles littering the sidewalks are just a triviality. That's the unacknowledged objective of the Green New Deal - if you want to reduce people's carbon footprint, the easiest way to do it is to make people a lot poorer. (Except for the ruling class, of course.) Being homeless will just be part of the New Green Lifestyle - those evil bougies currently living in houses will just have to learn how to live in a tent - For The Planet. That's the unacknowledged objective of the Green New Deal - if you want to reduce people's carbon footprint, the easiest way to do it is to make people a lot poorer. You can also get a peak power number for the S-IC by the peak F*v value during the burn. IIRC, you get 110 million HP or something like that. That's the mechanical power accelerating the rocket. Another impressive number is getting the Saturn V payload in orbit took enough energy to power NYC for 75 minutes. You can thus get an average power over the whole flight to orbit from that. "Hey, you preferred to have open borders. You made your choice."
Hey - lots of advantages to open borders: it makes life in the United States less pleasant, which increases resentment; and lowers wages, which increases resentment. Most importantly, it undermines the rule of law - normalizing illegal immigrants by giving them driver's licenses, and "free" medical care, etc., helps enshrine the principle that the law will no longer treat everyone equally, but rather that preferred groups will be treated quite differently legally than non-preferred groups. While rating a rocket's power output is a bit hard to do to get a meaningful number, the Saturn V's first stage, the S-IC had a peak power output of somewhere around 150GW.
That number is sort of meaningless, as it has to do with the kinetic energy being thrown out the nozzle. That's 65 pounds fewer a year of sugar. And more than a quarter of a ton since I reduced it. I try to limit carbs but they are generally very easy on my body. I find that if I stick to just protein and fat I eventually suffer badly. If I had a choice I would go totally low carb. When I stay completely away from sugar, I feel much better. Incidentally I miss beer so damn much but I think I'm finally just about over it. Posted by: ... at June 10, 2019 11:29 PM (uEbPt) 338
The Sierra Club was once famously pro-nuclear power. At the time lots of hydroelectric projects going on, I think that was the reasoning.
Less well known, they were also very much against illegal alien "immigration". The large donor class put an end to that. And that's really all it takes, is just a little bit of cogitation. If "environmentalists" were truly serious, they would not ignore millions of newcomers to our shores, given our energy needs. Same thing with "feminists" and Islam. Gloria fucking Steinem should be screaming with a bullhorn on CNN every day over this shit on a daily basis. Everything, pretty much, is a scam. It is very difficult to process this for most people, once they catch on. The leftists aren't close to that yet. This doesn't bode well. Alabama's governor signed a chemical castration bill. This should put a fix on pervs whose victims are 13 or younger. (I'd prefer for all pedophiles to be hanged by the balls till death.)
But Alabama makes me happy. Some winning today. Posted by: Dulcinea del Toboso at June 10, 2019 10:43 PM (kDwCy) A couple of questions come to mind: 1. is chemical castration a "one-shot" deal, or does the perp have to receive regular doses of whatever drug suppresses testosterone production? 2. given that we are constantly told that rape is not a matter of the perp being horny, but more a case of him wanting control over his victim, does castration have any effect on that? Or will the now-castrated perp blame the victim class for what has befallen him, and seek revenge upon them? A humorous anecdote: While on vacation in the Outer Banks, the house we were renting had to have some screens repaired due to a just recent storm. Don't know if anybody has called this out, but a segment on Hannity showed pretty well that the media was waiting for the Hyde flip-flop as a means to start to remove the old white straight male as the front runner.
Biden doesn't deserve anybody's sympathy, because he took the bait and reversed decades of a position. In addition, his speech showed how false he's been with the "private Catholic" line of bs. He said that if he believed that healthcare was a right, he could no longer hold the public position he did. So he basically admitted that his personal progressive beliefs would result in action, even though he'd been maintaining for years that he could not legislate on his personal beliefs. Biden: Sham. I'd like to say something about an earlier thread I didn't see until too late.
"They're not necessarily bad people, but they are people, and people tend to adapt their personalities and beliefs to create as little social friction with their social cohort as possible." This is how brainwashing works. Over time you will generally adopt the emotional responses of the group you are in. It is a normal thing which can be used to "re-educate" someone if you can make them stay in a certain social grouping for a while. This is what schools and especially colleges are doing. College works best at this because of the total daily immersion in a left run system. You can't reason someone out of an emotional reaction. Only immersion in a different social situation will do that. SJW threats work toward this. They make the price of not giving in to them high and by continually giving in you will slowly become one of them too and really be triggered not just faking it to get by. A couple of people have remarked on the NYT's "expose" one man's erotic YouTube journey to the "far right" and back again.
Somebody has noted that Milton Freedman's picture is there. And Dave Rubin and Jordan Peterson, as well. But I also note that it contains not 1, but 3 pictures of the anarchist, extreme pacifist, atheist Stefan Molyneux--like he has many commonalities with the "far right"? The man not only literally teaches that we should never strike our children to discipline them, but also believes as a matter of morality that we should live without the threat of force known as "government", and somehow from that, I guess, we could tame savages, and we'd all be non-violent (apologies to Molyneux for any strawmanning there). He has many methodologies of the right, but the end goal is drastically different in terms of a traditional conservative would find realistic expectations of man. >>>but 3 pictures of the anarchist, extreme pacifist, atheist Stefan Molyneux--like he has many commonalities with the "far right"?
In all fairness, Molyneux also warns men to steer clear of single moms and other toxic women, because they're immoral and do not have the kind of values that make for a quality wife (ie one who won't divorce you and suck you dry). That's kind of "right-wing" I would say. Posted by: Miley, the Duchess at June 11, 2019 03:13 AM (NMAzL) 516

Murphy definitely rules in time of water outages. I've had water/ power outages in the middle of the laundry twice in the last month, one of which resulted in me lugging wet laundry to a friend's. They tore up my street to put in city water the other year, but stopped short of my place. Something about enough water pressure to get up the hill.
