The Morning Rant

talking ape.jpg
"Oregon may be a blue state, but it prides itself on not having a sales tax. It's true, even though a sales tax has long been on the progressive agenda, every time it comes up on the ballot, it goes down like Stormy Daniels at a casting party. Plus, the people who write the proposed legislation are all pretty much incompetent. For example, there was one sales tax proposal on the ballot back in the 80s that had a number of exemptions, for food and other basic items, which made a certain amount of sense, but there was also an exemption for newspapers. Newspapers? Why? Who lobbied who to get that exemption into the bill? So that didn't go over too well. Also, there was no mandatory income tax reduction. When people asked about it, the answer they got was, 'Well, let the sales tax run for a few years and then we'll think about it.' Yeah, right. That went over like a lead balloon. So they had the election and the sales tax proposition went down in flames. The only people who voted for it were a few little old ladies in tennis shoes and a pot-addled hippie in Portland who thought he was getting some free Twinkies. What would've been worth considering was if they had proposed a swap: eliminate the income tax entirely and replace it with a sales tax. But no, they always want both, they always say they gotta have both, because for most politicians, there's just no such thing as the government having too much money."

46 They ran that sales tax lie on us a few years ago. They wanted a "temporary" 2 cent hike to build new classrooms at the schools. It was voted down by 2/3 majority during the normal election. They waited 2 months and held an unannounced "special election" and gave the county workers ,the day off to vote. In a county of 70,000 people 300 people voted and it passed. And like all "temporary taxes" it is still in effect 5 years later. The sales tax in my city is now 10.5%. If it were not for my wife I would have moved to Montana after I retired.

Most people want a can-do melon. So I say rename "cantaloupe" to "canaloupe." And while we're at it, make it "canalope," so people can spell it.

Now, here's a $million idea: breed the canalope so the rind is on the INSIDE! Don't have to shell it, just eat it like a peach. I hereby place this goldmine idea in the public domain. You're welcome.

97 Montana has no sales tax statewide. But cities can impose a sales tax and they are slowly but surely getting implemented statewide. NBC news really sucks. Rather than stating just the facts, which are:
* The flag has not been approved on primary, official flagpoles
* The flag can be flown elsewhere or hung on the building or in offices
* The White House has not provided a reason for declining to approve official requests to fly the flag on official, primary flagpoles. Specific requests for additional information were not available at publication time.

The lard it up with stuff like:
Although the pride flag can and is being flown elsewhere on embassy grounds, including inside embassies and on exterior walls, the decision not to allow it on the official flagpole stands in contrast to President Donald Trump's claim to be a leader in supporting LGBTQ rights overseas.

I don't know the official reasoning (if any) and I don't much care. The official flagpole should fly *only* the US flag, in my opinion. But that doesn't matter. What does matter is that the press whores can't help themselves - they have some pathological need to editorialize.

I am watching CO closely. We have a flat income tax and the Left often tries to impose a progressive scheme. It fails catastrophically every time they try. And unlike what is becoming the norm in CO - passing whatever it was that got rejected by voters in the form of legislation rammed through state congress - they can't do it with taxes. We have a nice piece of law called TABOR (Taxpayer's Bill of Rights), which requires voter approval for many aspects of state income taxing. TABOR is the most hated enemy of the Colorado Left, and so far has them stymied.

They won't be able to cheat tax changes through the legislature, and even Lefty Colorado keeps slamming them down at the polls. Watching their hand-wringing is predictable periodic entertainment.

165 A couple fun items about the SCOTUS today. First, and this may interest people who have been going on about Citizens United, they decided a Patent Law case involved the US Postal Service today, on the grounds that the USPS was NOT a "Person" as was required by a 2011 law. (looks to me like the USPS tried to steal a patent without paying for it)

Also, they refused to hear a case challenging the regulation of Silencers. (that's really not a surprise)

Interestingly, there's been a "warning" published ostensibly from the Notorious R.B.G. (probably from her staff) to the effect that the left should anticipate a bunch of 5-4 decisions coming down the rest of this term, most of which they won't like.

++++++++++++++
Ninth circuit came down clearly - and correctly (stopped clock) - on that. There is no constitutionally valid way for the government to demand ID to fly. They demand it, but if you refuse they actually aren't allowed to prohibit passage. They'll fight about it and make you miss your flight on purpose, but they don't have a legal leg to stand on demanding ID.

If you're an illegal alien, though, they don't fight you - you just get to pass. Try that as a citizen and you'll have waste a lot of time bickering with TSA agents of increasingly high rank until you finally get to the boss who will waste a bunch of time and then let you through.

175 Because the "Pride" flag is not about "pride."

It is an expression that we are no longer a country based upon the idea of individual liberty, which carries with it the central concept of toleration, including tolerating beliefs and lifestyles that you yourself do not agree with.

The "Pride" flag, by contrast, attacks the foundational concepts of liberty, and its offspring tolerance. Because "Pride" demands that everyone "celebrate" lifestyles with which they disagree.
That is the opposite of liberty, and toleration. There is no need to tolerate that which you celebrate. And to force someone to "celebrate" things they don't agree with is to demand conformity of thought. That is totalitarian, and unAmerican.

So no "Pride flags" I prefer the flag of the United States of America, according to the ideals and laws as founded.
Be as gay as you want, but don't fly your flag over my embassy.

Katana wants to kill her, but desists and moves on. Harley, to her seatmate: "She seems nice."
And late in the film, in the bar, when they Squad hesitates about finishing off the Big Bad: "I'll come," says Harley, as if someone has asked her to tag along for ice cream. To the others: "You got something better to do?"

In case you don't know it, a "Straight Pride" parade is being planned in Boston for August. Naturally, the imbecile mayor, Marty Walsh, and the national Gaystapo are doing everything in their power to stop it. Walsh admits he can't deny them a permit just yet, but he plans to deny them one on the basis of not being able to provide sufficient security.

And mark my words - if the parade goes through, the Boston PD will be given explicit (though, of course, not traceable) orders to stand down and allow the marchers to be assaulted, beaten and otherwise harassed.

All in the name of tolerance, of course.

300 If you haven't yet read the article titled "Male Feminist Tech Journalist Charged With Soliciting Child Sex" in the AoS Morning Report, you really should read it. "Sickening" doesn't even begin to describe it

What to know what "woke" feminist men are hiding?

Some guy is a famous progressive journalist who positions himself as a "feminist ally" and who writes aggressively for the "woke" left-wing side in the "Gamergate" war. And now, his true colors are revealed:

https://humanevents.com/2019/06/07/ male-feminist-tech-journalist-charged-soliciting-child-sex/

The details are gross.

This is the transcript of part of the conversations he had with the undercover FBI agent ("UC-1") posing as the mother of two underage (boy 7 and girl 9) children whom she is offering to the guy for lessons about sex. It was so horrifying that the article condemning this monster was not even allowed to print it. Taken verbatim from the court documents -- "BRIGHT" is the left-win feminist journalist dude:

---

UC-1: When you last teach a little girl ? I don't want just anyone teaching them

BRIGHT: I have a girl I've been teaching off and on for a couple of months now. But she's in the Bronx, which makes the logistics much harder.

UC-1: As old as my princess?

BRIGHT: A bit older, 11.

UC-1: Ahh ok ... a little bit. What are you good at teaching ?

BRIGHT: We have started the basics with [the Girl] I think masturbation and anal sex are probably my favourite subjects. Helping girls find those special places to touch, it's very rewarding.

UC-1: You thought about what kind of lesson you would like to start with? Anything excite you?

BRIGHT: Really depends on their experience, but I'm thinking maybe something involving foreskin is the· way to start. Do you want the lessons to be heteronormative?

UC-1: Sorry for my ignorance. What do you mean by that ? As opposed to what ?

BRIGHT: Does [the Girl] eat flowers and [the Boy] suck snakes?

...

UC-1: I'm wondering how you teach her how to pleasure herself and you?

BRIGHT: Some girls at a very early age discover that it feels good to rub certain bits. But otherwise, help her discover that herself, touching or vibrating her clit, putting a finger inside, or maybe a very tiny toy. How to hold my snake, showing her where the most sensitive parts of it are, the parts that feel best to lick or rub. How to take it in her hand and the kinds of motion that feel good

UC-1: Yes helping her discover all the best parts are super important and can be tricky to master. Yes, gentle touching and teasing

BRIGHT: Is [the Girl] a virgin?

UC-1: She has had the tip inside but not the whole cock

BRIGHT: Ok.

UC-1: Does that excite you?

BRIGHT: Yes. But I think the tip might be all I can manage

Based on [the FBI's] review of the text conversation between BRIGHT and UC-1, [we] understand "snake" to refer to a penis and "flower" to refer to a vagina."

And while the Doctor didn't use weapons, he surrounded himself with people who weren't pacifists:

Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart: "Just once I'd like to meet an alien menace that wasn't immune to bullets"

Leela: Always had a knife and a poison thorn on her person.

Huh. Mark it down as a rare case. Temporary never is, where the state is concerned. In CO, we built a highway (E-470) as a continuation of the western ring road (there is a whole sordid history of that highway). The deal was "We issue a bond and build the road. We toll the road to pay back the bond. When the bond is paid, we remove the toll." Sounds reasonable.

The year the bond was paid, they doubled the toll.

Don't think so. This is some of the 'source' documents...and I use the term source loosely. And the DOJ isn't handing over all the documents.

384 The illegals pay for it. It's a $1000 ticket which they save up for.

Do you know this for a fact or are you just speculating?

You realize Guatemalans pay smugglers several thousands too right? Congo is poor but getting $1000 together is doable.

So tens of thousands of third-worlders all decided to flock to the United States en masse pretty much simultaneously? All of these caravans are completely spontaneous? You don't think these are questions worth asking?

No, not at all. That leaked video of the Google company meeting in the wake of Trump's victory was really telling. During Q&A, one guy said something like, "It is clear that people think we're elitist coastals who hold them in contempt. They might be right. Why aren't we opening offices throughout the United States, including in regular communities that aren't major urban areas, to ensure we're being balanced and hearing these people?"

Their HR queen responded with (paraphrasing), "It is not true that we're only based on elite coastal areas. We have large offices in Boulder, CO and Ann Arbor, MI."

Of course it is. Seriously, a Straight Pride parade? Would you do that in any spirit other than to get in the face of Gay Pride?

Rumor has it that Oberlin's insurance company might tell them to go jump in the lake. My dream scenario is that Oberlin gets assessed triple damages ($33 million), their insurance tells them to get bent, and they have to close down the college and sell the property and buildings to pay off the settlement.

Because in fact, that's what a pacifist is, every last one of them.

407 Zod -- Around here, fried rice is mostly rice mixed with frozen carrots and peas with a small sprinkling of cheap soy sauce. A very nice lady from Okinawa taught me how to make great fried rice with the bean sprouts, scrambled egg, chicken, and real soy sauce. I also make pepper steak. The XO just loves pepper steak, but it's too expensive to buy enough take away to make him happy. I also make real sweet and sour pork. None of that red sugar water.

I tried once to make hot and sour soup, but decided it was just easier to send the XO to Three Happiness to buy a container. Best hot and sour in Omaha.

408 As long as I can remember, Oregon citizens buying things in Washington State were exempt from paying the sales tax.
Apparently not any more effective July 1. The Democrats in our legislature have taken that away because it "deprived the state of needed tax income."

And nothing's too good for the tax payer. Especially more taxes.

409 Stopped watching long ago when the female sidekick morphed into one of those women that criticize and denigrate the men they're with and the writers made it so that she came up with all the solutions to everything thus making him look even worse.

Funny thing is that took place quite a while ago about the time of the start of the commercials that were just like that.

Two of the reasons why I don't watch TV and cut my cable; why pay to have my intelligence and every other man's insulted with lies and stupidity. Are women that insecure?

Plus I have noted that some of this nonsense has made it's way into real life and that's what is really troubling.

Look around you ladies. Yes Women contribute a lot to culture/civilization but men have contributed much more of the infrastructure and the foundations.
