The Saturday Night Joke

Jane and Arlene are outside their nursing home, having a drink and a smoke, when it starts to rain. Jane pulls out a condom, cuts off the end, puts it over her cigarette, and continues smoking.

Arlene: What in the hell is that?

Jane: A condom. This way my cigarette doesn't get wet.

Arlene: Where did you get it?

Jane: You can get them at any pharmacy.

The next day, Arlene hobbles herself into the local pharmacy and
announces to the pharmacist that she wants a box of condoms.
The pharmacist, obviously embarrassed, looks at her kind of strangely (she is, after all, over 80 years of age), but very delicately asks what size, texture, brand of condom she prefers.

'Doesn't matter Sonny, as long as it fits on a Camel.'

VALRICO, Fla. — A man in Valrico is facing a manslaughter charge after deputies say he accidentally shot and killed a woman during an act of foreplay.

Andrew Shinault, 23, shot the woman in her upper body with his legally owned hand gun around 12:30 p.m. on Sunday. Deputies say the two were engaging in an act of foreplay involving the gun.

Once a man, always a man. Tonight's Feel Good Story of The Day.

A 93-year-old D-Day veteran proved his courage once again as he openly flirted with Melania Trump right in front of her husband.

The amusing moment was captured on video as President Donald Trump met Thomas Cuthbert and thanked him for his service after a ceremony in Normandy commemorating the 75th anniversary of thousands of troops storming the beaches in World War II.

I remember clearly chocking the cue before my turn, with Stealin' in the background. The first half of the song especially, was perfect for it.

116 Oberlin's main long-term financial issue, like other "elite" liberal arts colleges is a dwindling supply of students whose families are willing to pay full tuition.

Related to this is that these "elite" liberal arts colleges have gotten so hostile to males, particularly white males, that they are having problems getting males to apply. 39% of Oberlin applications came from males in 2017, and 61% from females. Traditionally, these schools were 60% male/40% female.

It's gotten so bad that these schools quietly practice affirmative action towards males - they are worried that as they approach 60% female enrollment, that the women will stop applying too, so they are preferentially accepting male applicants.

Well, the "hottest" daughter products of the fission reaction have the shortest half-lives, so, after enough time passes, it will probably be quite safe to enter and stay in the exclusion zone.

I could see robots, or possibly animals, being fitted with radiation detectors and GPS locators, and turned loose in the zone to sniff out, and mark, or clean up hot spots.

My guess is that sooner rather than later, because the Idiocracy is so deeply ingrained into the media that the best way to combat this stupidity is to join in "wokeheartedly." Any place these leftist anti-ICE pro-illegal groups form, stand alongside with "Stop Enforcement of Laws" (t-shirts, stickers, signs) - and publically push for the end of, specifically, tax collection and enforcement along with any and all rules and regulations that deal with non-violent crime, to start.

Not the cooling, I think, but moderating. Graphite is a moderator, and the control rod tips of the RBMKs were (at least used to be) graphite, which causes the local reactivity to increase briefly when you insert the control rods. You might be thinking of liquid sodium cooling?

Run it through on gentle in your pants pocket. Hang dry.

Unless it's Canadian, in which case the #!&#*! plastic windows will melt in the wash.

Posted by: Diogenes at June 08, 2019 11:35 PM (TGayj)

I consider knowledge of the Poodle Dog is a requirement if one calls themselves a "local".

I've been dining there, off and on, since a young pup. We lived in Edgewood and had a boat at Hylebos or City Waterway in Tacoma, and being the oldest, was always with Dad going to do regular maintenance. On Saturdays, if I worked hard enough (what ever that meant), we would stop there sometimes for lunch.

Happy hour there is still cheap in The Pup Room, and the beer cold, I'm pleased to report.

339 But, I seem to recall that US engineers experimented with graphite cooled reactors, but we rejected them in the end, because safety. We went with water-cooled everything.

But the USSR kept working with them, because they were dual use (energy production and fuel enrichment). The didn't really care about safety, and it saved some money, so graphite it was, at Chernobyl.
Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice at June 08, 2019 11:36 PM (CIXuh)

IIRC, the very first nuclear reactor anywhere was built under the bleachers of a football field in Chicago. Stagg Field, maybe? And it was graphite moderated. I don't believe it had a cooling system at all. It was just a stack of graphite blocks, with tubes for the uranium fuel and controls rods. They pulled out some control rods, observed a neutron flux that proved that fission was taking place, and shut it down again. proof of concept.

349 Up to comment about #150 and starting to fade. This is probably goodnight for me. So...
____

Emergency prayers, if not action, required:

Just heard tonight that son's girlfriend has said she's going to move to California.

Two ways to know she is "don't put you-know-what in" crazy:
a) dumping my most excellent son, and
2) moving to Commiefornia.
My opinion: He dodged a bullet. And he probably knows that, but of course for now he's heartbroken, and angry.

When his sister told me about this, I said, well, we need to put out the word, to your co-workers, to all their old friends, maybe even to the Morons, this guy needs dates. Not one. Many. (He needs a real Moronette.) And he'd probably hate that I was talking about him here. So, don't tell him.

Know any gals around the NE Oklahoma area (or willing to commute) need a date? FYI: I know math is verboten here, but she was 24 and on the very edge of old enough for him by the formula.

Good night, sweet folk. May hordes of angels guide you through the snoozetime.

Theodore Dalrymple:

In my study of communist societies, I came to the conclusion that the purpose of communist propaganda was not to persuade or convince, not to inform, but to humiliate; and therefore, the less it corresponded to reality the better. When people are forced to remain silent when they are being told the most obvious lies, or even worse when they are forced to repeat the lies themselves, they lose once and for all their sense of probity. To assent to obvious lies is...in some small way to become evil oneself. One's standing to resist anything is thus eroded, and even destroyed. A society of emasculated liars is easy to control. I think if you examine political correctness, it has the same effect and is intended to.

Mention was made of his passing here, but it did not get a lot of notice, I guess.

I saw him perform live in Calgary, 1980-something, IIRC. In the then brand new Jack Singer concert hall, which was built to have superb acoustics. He appeared on the stage, with a big white grand piano, and came to the edge of the stage, and said, "Well, the sound system in this hall is new, and it doesn't work, and the staff can't fix it. We can cancel the show, and refund your money, and maybe I can be here next year. Or I can play and sing for you without the amps. They tell me this halls had grand acoustics. Shall we give it a try?" The crowd applauded, so he went on with the show. I was with friends in the second row (somebody knew somebody), and the show was just great. That cat could really play a mean piano.

RIP, Mac Rebennack.

Deliberate, in-your-face transgenderism (note how the person is dressed, relative to the other presenters?). Bets that Tim Cook pushed to have "her" included in the presentation?

The trendy grocery store I shop at had a very flamboyant transgendered person working there as a cashier for a few months. He/she doesn't work there anymore - I wonder if that person's presence was having a discernible effect on sales, the store's customers being less "woke" than the store is.

I've got a really bad habit of treating the girls that work for me battening like my little sisters because guests always but us drinks and the invite us to hang out afterwards and I want to make sure my girls don't get taken advantage of or get themselves into an uncomfortable situation.

Anyways, backstory aside, tonight the groom's mom took a shine to me and had me out dancing with her a time or four and then started making out with me a bit (by the way, some of you 29+ year olds keep yourself in good shape and are good with a tongue!) and had me up against the truck as I was packing up and up walk my girls and they are asking if I'm sure I'm okay and then they texted me and called me later to make sure I was "safe".

482 Uriah Heep got me into album cover art, as did Yes. But it was Heep's 'Demons and Wizards' which set a high bar on album art. On that cover, a wizard is cavorting on rock, with white 'water' flowing around it. What no one saw, at least not the censors, was the white 'water' originated from a vagina and the white 'water' flowed around one rock shaped like a penis. No one ever believed me until I'd pull out the album and show them. Once seen, it cannot be unseen.

Bing image of album cover: https://preview.tinyurl.com/y5mfze9m

Look at the top left, at the origin of the white 'water'. Look just below that at the first 'rock' the water flows around. Even has a urethra hole ('urethra meatus', had to look that up) at the tip.

CD's just can't do album cover art justice as they are too small a 'canvas' for such details.

Argentina is an interesting place. First, the language. When it is possible to say something two ways in Spanish, the Argentine says it the other way. Every.Time.

Second, Economics. Until the central bank relaxed the peg of the Argentine Peso from US Dollar, there were two (and more) prices for US dollars: The Official central bank price, and the black market price, the 'dollar Blue'. This Blue Dollar price was listed in a major economic newspaper right next to the official price right under the Masthead, next to the weather prediction, and there was an app that had a minute to minute spot price for dollars to Argentine Pesos in Buenos Aires, Montevideo, and Brazil.

Learning about the Argentine Austral, the currency Argentina tried to convert to to escape their hyperinflation, lead me to Austrian Economics by the way. Not directly, since I also has to learn about the various French Revolutionary currencies too, and then figure out what it meant. Austrians have the best explanation IMO.

When I was there in '92, even the Mickey D's hamburgers were gre-a-a-a-a-t. The bife de lomo I had at THE steak house in BA, La Cabana, was simply the best steak I ever had. The people I was with ordered a parillo mixto, or mixed grill, for an appetizer. It came to the table with one of those tabletop braziers and these cuts of meat that one cooked. I didn't know what the cuts were so I told the group, 'Don't tell me what I'm eating, let me try it first', so as to avoid any preconceptions. I tried one bite of something and told them it 'was terrible. What is it?' 'Lung'. 'Well, I don't like lung'. So I took a bite of another piece of meat. Happily chewing my second bite I asked, 'This is good. What is it?' 'Stomach'. I didn't know I liked grilled cow's stomach.

Farmer, you're 100% correct, as to traditional, premium USA cuts, from the Sirloin or better. No doubt about it.

But for "trash cuts", traditionally used by poorer folks, even cuts so "undesirable" as to have been commonly thrown away at the butcher's, only to be "saved" by grateful, meet-needing pesants.

"Flank Steak", now known as "fajitas". So fiberous, tough and un-chewable as to be considered "waste".

Marinade in citrus & salty seasonings, pound the hell out of it with a tenderizing hammer. Sizzle on the open flame, then cut into beautiful, bite sized chunks. Heaven in a tortilla.

"Ox Tails", for Ox Tail Soup. Common beef tails, actually.

The "junk cuts" do MUCH BETTER from grass fed beef.

Deeper, stronger, beefier flavor, that holds up well to all of the "ministrations" of marinades, heavy seasonings and other things done to those junk cuts, just render them edible.

And entirely delicious.

That same "grass fed" factor though, makes the premium cuts TOO strong, TOO red and TOO lean. The marbling goes away, and the cuts go down in grade, value, flavor and texture.

Frankly, I like the right beef for the right cuts. I don't expect Grass Fed at a premium steakhouse, and I don't expect Corn Fed premium cuts at my local taco joint.

And each IS the best for it's intended destination.

497 Been a while, but Argie beef was quite good, as I recall. Range fed, only way they do it, I think. Inexpensive [well, in American $$ - even back then - for the same reason it probably is now - see Kindltot's comment above].

Anyway, I imagine the combo of inexpensive steak and red wine - both pretty good - is still quite the bargain for the gringo visiting today. Footwear, belts, leather jackets used to be very good deals too - very high quality, cheap.

Apparently Resnick had sort of a 'fro hairdo, against the regs of the NASA patriarchy (her give-a-shit meter was usually pretty much pegged fully on zero). So during some operation in orbit, her hair got tangled up in a mechanism, which would have proved the ole boys right. So they went radio silent and got it sorted out, after which she gently suggested to the rest of the crew (all male) that they would be better off not fucking mentioning it, if they knew what was good for them.

One addendum to that: 'while living in the Paris of South America'. Was surprised to find out BA had the largest population of Italians outside of Italy, including New York.

Oh, and Freddo's Ice cream. They actually delivered an order to a house at 2 a.m., where I had a home-cooked meat feast on their 'parilla', which is a staple in every house. jazz24.org is the streaming jazz station that also plays over the air in the Puget Sound area at 88.5 KNKX. As you can probably surmise, it is 24/7 pure jazz. It used to be Pacific Lutheran University's station, KPLU, but was sold to the community about 4 years ago. They raised $7 million in 5 months to buy it. Impressive.

KNKX also plays a local live blues show 6pm to midnight Sat and Sun. Nothing else like it. But they don't sent it over jazz24.org, unfortunately. The DJ is a long-time bass player who is professor-like in his knowledge of blues.

That is where I heard Kingfish. And many others.

564 It's raining here now. We made it 4 days with no rain. Shoulda cut the grass yesterday. Ah, well, at least I won't have to water the annuals I just planted.

I have canned kidney beans, but I will accept no substitute for kidney beans. I've eaten them in chili, since I was a child, so they are a necessity as far as I'm concerned.

big fun was had by all

572 I've got a Secret Powder that I put on chicken, which will be in the red beans and rice. My buddy calls it "Rajin' Cajun" and I am sworn to secrecy of its ingredients, but it Kicks All-Sorts-of-Ass.

I'm also adding kielbasa, as well as the seasoned chicken.

...and then there's the prepared seasonings from "Trade East", which I believe is Trader Joe's, but I can't remember. They make a Cajun Spice and a Mesquite Spice that are so good, you'll break fingers if someone tries to take them from you.

573 Morning, Alton!

I wish you guys had told me we were gonna need head socks for the meat lab raid. Now the police are on the lookout for a gang of minorities!

Can't complain though. Got caught outside the engineering hall, but then I whipped out my passport and yelled "Diplomatic immunity!" Half the response team conceded the point, the other half was just really impressed with how I was set up for the Lethal Weapon line and let me go.

I want to talk my buddy into marketing that "Rajin' Cajun", but he's wishy-washy on the whole idea. He wouldn't give me the recipe for years because he thought I would steal it and "run with it".

585 We here at Slapweasel Industries understand the mistakes we have made in the past. Poisoning all of San Francisco and most of Oakland was a poor choice.

Those responsible were fired and their clothes burned in effigy, while motivated employees pointed and laughed at their naked, desk-content-carrying asses on the way out of the building.

This was a regrettable incident and we are offering a 7% discount on all Slapweasel Industries Products, from Industrial Jellies to Mung Syrup.

We hope to regain your trust in Slapweasel Industries, because if we don't, we'll just hump your Oven-Mitts.
