Netflix, Which is Garbage, Threatens to Boycott Georgia Over Its Common-Sense Abortion Safety Bill

See what I did there?

I guess Neflix has some production in Georgia.

They're threatening to boycott the state.

Ted Sarandos, Netflix's chief content officer, told Variety that Netflix will "rethink" their "entire investment in Georgia."

Many major Hollywood studios have remained silent on the matter of Georgia abortion legislation.

An MPAA spokesperson told TheDCNF in a statement that "The outcome in Georgia will also be determined through the legal process. We will continue to monitor developments."

#Woke Corporatism's next evolution:

Open thread. Pardon the crap posting, but I got a bad night's sleep last night and had to see the doctor for a regularly-scheduled check-up. (Everything looks fine, but I'm waiting on the usual blood tests.)

I was behind all day. I hope to do better tomorrow.

The part Ace quoted said many studios had not taken a position.

Which is smart.

Because I don't think anyone in their right mind believes that upon Netflix making this announcement, the good people of Georgia would immediately change their law.

"Yeah, we think abortion is murder, but you making crappy movies here is more important than death of innocents."

What Netflix will do is waste money and nothing will change. And other states will pass (and are passing) similar laws. Do they boycott them, as well? To what end?

It's stupid virtue signalling by people who already dumped a truckload of cash on the creative talents of the Obama family.

75 Willowed in the last thread, from Hollywood In Toto:
---
Here's one "well-known screenwriter" offering a take on crafting conservative characters.

"It's like you're overlooking the fact that these people are monsters because it doesn't make for good film or television," he said to me. "It defeats the entire purpose of making these things in the first place; these are not moral people we're talking about, they are not just, they are not good, they are evil and deserve to be painted as such, or not painted at all."

Trump's ascension broke many cultural norms, something conservatives noted with alarm from the dawn of his presidential campaign.

What we're seeing now is a new level of norm-breaking, though. Hollywood members cannot embrace a Republican as anything more than "evil." Think that will impact the stories we see in the coming months?

There are interstate commerce issues, but such a law would be in *support* of the clause and so should not be unconstitutional. (I think.)

This would put an end to that crap pretty quick, if a group of red states could threaten to bar all netflix business from their states if they try such stuff. Of course, there is no way to prevent a company from staying away from a state for any reason, but if they advertise it like this it would be actionable, and these companies are only doing it for image reasons so that would be enough.

Or no Amazon if you don't give multi-billions in tax free operation and say that Bezos winky is impressive?

How about this: take your sh*t-ass outfit on the hoof and get f*cked.

Enact a 100% tax on streaming services that goes to build homeless shelters and fund scholarships to trade school.

Unfair you say? Don't you care about the homeless? Don't you care about the underprivileged?

Not sure what you mean by that, but I think there is a very clear difference between making a stand on preserving human life vs who uses which bathroom.

The bathroom thing was stupid and after a suitable interval (and enough incidents of peeping toms/sexual assault), I'm pretty sure the whole thing will quietly go away.

But abortion is a hot-button issue and I can't think of any right-to-lifers who would say "Oh no! Netflix is displeased! Okay, kill all the babies you want, then."

139 If you look at the end-creidt of MANY TV shows and movies, you will see a "Georgia" movie commission credit -- even if the film apparently has no connection to Georgia. Why? Because Georgia has a state policy of giving huge tax breaks and cheap permit fees to ore in film companies, so a lot of stuff gets filmed there - - even if it's just background shots not germane to the film. You'd be surprised how much gets filmed in Georgia. The bottom line rules. Until now, at least. Companies will boycott Georgia and have to pay triple or more to film in other states.

---
Here's one "well-known screenwriter" offering a take on crafting conservative characters.

Two points here, one is the fact that they did *not* cut off services to NC residents. The other, is that the tranny law was brought about by the Charlotte City Council, who insisted on trannys in the bathroom.

So, Charlotte shot themselves in their Prog/Dem foot by forcing the issue, and then, lost the center.

This is no joke, but there were a bunch of studies about color and influencing people. I remember one about tie colors. But there was some hand wringing back in the Reagan days that the Republicans had a better image, and these idiots felt it had to be because of their color.

So one year in the election coverage CBS (I think they were first) swapped colors. Everyone else had always had republican as blue (conservative, the union, tradition....) and Democrats as Red (the Left, revolution, change,...) and they decided to swap just to fuck shit up. Their maps were all backwards and wrong.

To me, it was a direct result of all the NYT articles about color and preference and psychology.

But this was just as Wikipedia was taking off, and those idiots decided to go along. There were a lot of other websites that had political information, and they were all the normal way, but wikipedia swapped and now that is the standard.

Then that fey indonesion punk speechified about "red states" and so here we are.

But i refuse to cave. I will go to my grave identifying a a TRUE BLUE CONSERVATIVE and also a believer in free markets.

Working from memory, it was couple/few years before wikipedia started to gain steam. In fact, up until about 2012 cycle wikipedia was still using a lot of old maps from some political junkie website who had blue=republican.

So I think it had to be either 2000, or 1996 when the first network made the switch. I think the next cycle a couple of them did but they were still outliers.

But that is wholly based on my memory. It would be an interesting research project. I can say for sure though that one network switched first, that it was soon after a few "studies" showing that blue was a better color (how stupid do you have to be and how disrespectful of the voters to believe that crap). And that wikipedia is what made it stick since at first they were reverse of the rest of the world but slowly their version took hold.

Robert Torricelli, an utterly corrupt Demonic Party senator from New Jersey was losing so badly in the polls, that well after the ballots were printed with Torricelli's name on it, distributed to Armed Forces and to the precincts, the Demonic Party desperately needed the one vote majority in the US Senate so a judge brushed aside election rules to get Lautenberg on the ballot so that the fools in New Jersey would have a viable Demonic Party candidate to vote for.

All Trump needs is some friendly judge somewhere on planet earth to mandate to the seditious states that Trump appears on the ballot.

330 John Wick kills people in interesting ways, using the gun fu style to seamlessly move between BJJ takedowns and locks and headshots. Keanu Reeves is clearly executing most of the stunts, AND the cameraman photographs long takes, not super chopped up micro-takes, so you can see the flow of combat and anticipate the next threat. (This wouldn't be possible if Reeves weren't doing the great majority of the stuntwork himself, as the director would have to cut quickly between Reeves and his stunt-person.)

It's just really good stuntwork, camera work, and "physical acting" by Reeves, as Harrison Ford calls it.

It's different. Asking what's the big deal about John Wick's action scenes is like asking what's the big deal about Road Warrior's chase sequence. Supreme Court would settle the question.

The rules keeping Trump off the ballot are clearly unconstitutional, and I expect Trump will start quoting the text I have in response.

Federal judges could of course order him included on the ballot, but if the states refuse, that would be the remedy.

Plus, people could write him in, which would provide proof of disenfranchisement. In fact, Trump could urge that to juice GOP turnout since every vote they cast for him will remove a Dem Rep in a safe set from office!

392 This is not new for me. I've never like this brand of scolding superiority whether it came from Pat Robertson, Rick Santorum, or Moore.

Apparently enough Alabama Republicans agreed with you, or at least, the 10k that voted 3rd party and threw the election to the Democrat.

Moore would have been a doctrinaire conservative in the Senate, and because of those feelings, we got a Democrat.

That way the stupid state of Georgia won't bring their national quota down.

Yes, without question. Now replace Moore's transparent hooks to Christian voters in Bama with Islamic rhetoric in Michigan. Still comfortable?

If someone asks you about Jesus, you don't deny him. But you also don't flaunt your assumed superiority in the public square either--you're just another sinner. Moore is a Pharisee.

This is not new for me. I've never like this brand of scolding superiority whether it came from Pat Robertson, Rick Santorum, or Moore.

agree about the Moore / scolding part. however, unlike BroFo, T-Rancid, or their bearded, de-clitted supporters in Michigan and Minnesota, Moore isn't anti-American, and he is very pro-Christian. Regardless of the Corporate press tries to propagandize, America is, and always has been, a Christian nation.

The 7th-century sisters are completely anti-American, and anti-Christian, too.

396 I used to see Keanu Reeves at The Tennis Place on 3rd and LaBrea. Tall guy, always on a motorcycle. What a great spot that was, one of LA's last few cross-cultural and cross-racial gathering places. You'd see actors and kids from the barrio. Playing tennis is a sort of club unto itself, with instant membership. But they razed it and put in a condo complex -- literally "paved paradise and put in a parking lot."

I dated a techie in college and thought she was insane. Mostly because she was insane. But I didn't understand the devotion to the theater from someone who was not on stage.

Well life goes on and I move to NYC and she moves to NYC where she works as a techie on Broadway shows and Shakespeare in the Park and gives me and my fiancee tickets and invites us to afterparties and I meet all of the 80s actors.

498 I mean "hypocrite" in the biblical sense and in the context given in the post I quoted.

That is to say, if Moore is a Christian, for him to try to undermine both the party he claims as his own and the president he supports out of revenge makes him a hypocrite.

I'm with you on the double standard, but if you're going to cloak yourself in Christian virtue (which Moore does), he needs to live up to it.
Posted by: A.H. Lloyd at May 28, 2019 09:01 PM (cfSRQ)
---
From what I've read Moore is way more preachy than I am, but I'm used to that from fellow Christians. No modern day Christian that I know of is hardly as racist as many Christians of yesteryear. So, hypocrisy is in the eye of the beholder, as I see it. Human blindness besets us all--and yes, humility is the appropriate response to that.

I think to be a Christian is to be a hypocrite, because it's not my standard I advance, it's the Lord's. And it's also one I cannot uphold, as our very theology tells us we can't.

I think Jesus was specifically against the scribes and Teachers of the Law because it was precisely those the lay Jew would look to for guidance on spiritual matters, and it was precisely them Jesus accused of "slamming the door of heaven in their faces".

Their hypocrisy was a public play-acting which made Jews feel that will of God was attainable by fine, upstanding Pharisees like themselves, and there was little grace for those who weren't as good. But they weren't cleaning the inside of the cup, just the outside to build themselves up.

547 The reason Moore was the nominee is because the national party insisted on trying to push Luther Strange across the line and went all out negative against the most popular conservative candidate. Moore, and his base of voters, was ignored and slipped in. Then he won the run-off against the machine candidate Strange. But the party wasn't going to back Moore.

I think the other example you pointed to with Barbour is a better example. But its always been an incumbent protection racket, that's how you earn favors.

I honestly don't blame what happened with Moore on McConnell. Moore has skeletons in his closet and is a freak.

Trump also didn't endorse Moore at first, and he kept his distance and barely endorsed him in the general election. Moore specifically ran his whole campaign against McConnell, so what was McConnell supposed to do?

Everyone including the Trumps don't want Moore, either everyone is on the GOPe conspiracy or the guy is just a gift to Democrats.

Apparently, the state GOP couldn't get out the vote while the little
black church ladies or whatever came out to vote for who ever the left
put up instead...because he ran as a good boy who didn't do nothing but
go to church.

right? How did Jones run?

GO ask your good buddy Sean Hannipie Or Laura "Fake As Bitch" Ingraham.

They set a trap for Roy Moore and sprung it on him on national tv.

Which is why I didn't shed many tears for their Catholic butt-buddy Kavanaugh who was apparently " one of the Beltway tribe"

Blame the House for CRs. That's where spending originates. And then blame yourself for not getting 60 votes in the Senate. The only reason we have Obamacare is because there were 60 Democrats in the Senate for the vote.

It's not magic. Reid wasn't some genius. He had the votes. Period. And when they lost those votes we got President Pen and Phone. Posted by: toby928 at May 28, 2019 10:30 PM (yQpMk)

692 >>I can't parse this sentence.

It's not that complicated. Watch.

You need 60 votes in the Senate to pass legislation. The only exception to this rule is budget reconciliation which can only be used once per session. Its not an option any other time and even then it's not a sure thing. And that means you need Democrat votes unless you can get 60 Republican Senators for any other legislation. There are currently 53 Republican Senators.

Therefore, every one you can get that you know will vote for what you want, the very reason both Mitch and Trump supported Strange, is important toward the goal of 60.

No, I don't give a wet fart about recess appointments that expire as soon as the new session of Congress is sworn in. I don't care about the Deputy Assistant to the Secretary of Something Something at the DEA and neither does anyone else unless they can site a specific example of why.

Nobody is saying McConnell is perfect. Trump isn't perfect. He is doing a fine job.

696 Sorry, I remember when you said he was going to win easily in Alabama. He has lost other state wide elections as a Republican candidate in Alabama.

Yeah I was shocked that the Republican Party turned against their own nominee. And he was twice elected Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court. He could probably win that position again.

697 Look, your problem is with the voters of Alabama. If the guy wants to run, I don't see why he shouldn't.

698 And he sucked as a candidate and was clearly more interested in his own future than anything else.
Hah. Jack you just described Mitch "Chinese Money Whore" McConnell perfectly.

Funny how your beloved GOP rallied to support Sir Brett of Kavanaugh, yet couldn't get off their fat asses to back Judge Moore.
Trump made a shitty deal with Mitch the Bitch on Luther Fatass.
It got him NOTHING with Mitch and taught PDT a lesson about making deals with that Slimy piece of Turtle Shit.
Judge Moore is and was always a good and decent man. But the Northern elitists are always ready to fuck over a decent man with a Southern accent.
But yeah, sure. 16 year old Bret Kavanaugh kept perfect records of non-fucking and non-blackout drinking for posterity in his magical notebooks.

Fucking bullshit.

699 Trump is good with McConnell and that's good enough for me.

Know who else Trump is "good with"??

Kim Jong Un.

700 Keto, not Beto....

Any new blood in the GOP?

Who would volunteer to be personally destroyed, their children and spouses harassed and their personal property vandalized?

That's what any new GOP candidate has to consider.\
