29 Looking at the "ditching skills" in another way, isn't it interesting how the Left is always demanding you lose or give up things rather than, in a liberal manner, add to them. It's always a zero-sum game with them. You must GIVE UP profit, GIVE UP liberty. What if you ADDED their so-called values to your own, i.e., tried broadening or enriching. No -- you must relinquish, surrender, submit, to their worldview.

31 Re all the rain and the wet soil - Lately I've been finding some water on my garage floor. Not a lot, just a small puddle, like somebody spilled a cup of water or less. I can't figure out where it's coming from. Is it possible for the water to be coming up from the ground through some hairline cracks in the floor? It's bizarre.

The meal is only two servings. So you spend the hour prepping and cooking and no leftovers.

61 Whenever something breaks around the house I do a cost analysis on paying someone else to fix or replace. I figure out how long I would have to work at my regular job to pay someone else to do it. If I have to work two days to pay someone for a job I can do myself in one, then I'll do it myself.

A good example is garage doors. I recently had two replaced for abut $1500. I could have bought the doors myself for about $1200 and it would have taken all day. as it was, the crew came in and did it in about two hours, That was worth it.

100 We all had much fun yesterday (Well, I did anyway ) with the thread dealing with Sandy Cortez talking about "casual" tornadoes. I think the poster was correct who said, "Maybe she meant ' causal' ". That was clever; I wouldn't have thought of that. Maybe because causal is not a word I use very often, or at all and as my son pointed out, "It's an awkward phrase construction in respect to tornados".

***And just a note that hopefully is not needed, but I'll say it anyway. Tornadoes are a horrible things and I feel for the people affected by them. I think it's good to give to relief efforts in some way, if people are able to do that. However, Sandy is not the brightest bulb in the box and I had a great time laughing at the comments of various posters.

104 Morning all. Headed offshore this AM.

On this day in 1948, Polish Army Captain Witold Pilecki was executed by the Polish Soviet puppet government for spying.

Pilecki was one of the founders of the Polish underground army after the Germans and Russians tore Poland in half. In 1940, he took a fake identity and got himself thrown into Auschwitz to gather intelligence and organize resistance and networks inside the camp.

He spent 2 1/2 years in there, passing up opportunities to escape. In April 1943 he realized he'd done everything he could and broke out with two other men.

Once out. He contacted the Polish resistance and tried to organize either an attack on the camp, or airdrops of weapons to let the inmates attack the guards; all of this was denied.

In 1944 he fought in the Warsaw uprising, commanding the last stronghold to surrender to the Germans.

After the war, he went back into Poland to spy on the Sovist puppets who were setting up shop there; he considered the Polish government in exile to be the legitimate government of Poland. He was captured, given a show trial and shot. His final resting place is unknown.

His 1945 report on the Auschwitz mission is available on Amazon under the title The Auschwitz Volunteer. It is the stuff of nightmares but worth reading if you can stomach it.

Witold Pilecki, AKA Tomasz of Auschwitz, prisoner number 4859, Polish Catholic and holder of balls of fucking steel-- rest in peace.

I buy those often, especially if I'm just going to to use the meat in another dish.

Fast, cheap, easy, and good:

Rotisserie chicken dark meat
1 can cream of mushroom with equal parts sour cream and chicken broth
Cup of shredded cheese if you like
Mix, bake at 350 for 30 minutes
Serve mixed up in noodles or over rice

Alabama is changing marriage laws:
https://dailycaller.com/2019/05/24/alabama-marriage-licenses/
WTF? Why is government even involved in marriage? Why do I need a license and to pay a fee? Get government out of my bedroom.

From the article:

"The bill allows couples who wish to get married to submit a marriage certificate to the probate judge showing the couple meets the proper legal requirements... without traveling somewhere else, which is the intent of the law...."

Sounds just like a fundamental easing of a limitation.

But get this, from the article:

"I feel like while in and of itself it is not prejudiced, I feel like it was born out of prejudice though," said Democratic state Rep. Neil Rafferty of Birmingham, who voted against the bill... [and who, much to all our surprise] is the only gay member of the House...."

53 So Skills you should give up is a Leftist view?

I wasn't sure if that article was The Onion or not. It was so mincing it made my skin crawl

---
I take particular objection to that article because of my own situation. My parents split when I was 4 and I lived with mom, which meant whatever skills training I got was on the odd weekend or summer at my grandparents.

Took me a while to catch up, and part of having skill is knowing - as others have pointed out - when to call in the pro and when you can do it yourself.

But there's also a lot of satisfaction when you do a small little repair or micro-project. Yesterday I was cleaning out the garage and found myself looking at a broken dustpan (no handle) and a bent snow shovel. A few minutes later, I'd removed the shovel blade and substituted the dust pan, giving me a nice upright sweeping tool for the price of a couple of nuts and bolts.

I have tried to teach my daughters some of this but am resigned that I will have to do a remedial course with my future sons-in-law when the time comes.

To be specific, the federal government has a number of tax and entitlement benefits earmarked specifically for married couples

Why? Why would government try to make marriage better? And it is interesting they left off the marriage penalty. Many 2 income families pay more than their fair share of taxes as the second income move them into a new tax bracket. And then there is SS. I can get about 3000 at 67 and my wife about 2800. HOWEVER, together as a family we can only get a combined 4800.

Every single story is now viewed through the prism of: How can this hurt Trump?

No doubt it was assumed that the economy could collapse and WW III would break out, but since things are looking better, it's all being framed as *in spite* of what Trump is doing.

Of course this appeals to a very tiny audience, which is why media operations are collapsing. For a long time I wondered how long it could go on and the answer seems to be: not much longer.

Even progressives get tired of throwing money away without result.
