What say we send out for some Chinese food? And Some Beer, While We Can Get It.. Trump Is Killing the Beer Industry Oh no! Lets see some quotes from the article: The drop in beer profits may not be only the administration’s fault. All booze sales, including wine, beer, and spirits, dropped by .08 percent in 2018 for the third year in a row. Many drinkers are apparently shifting towards consuming wine and liquor over beer, so the industry was harder hit by the decline in alcohol consumption overall. Some areas of the industry are still growing, with brewing jobs up 8 percent. The report attributes that to the “tremendous growth in micro and brewpub employment as well as growth in higher margin products from all brewers.” But the headline... Muh clicks! Bob Seger, no question. Live Bullet is one of the classic albums of the 70s. Repeat story: I student-roadied for Bob Seger while I was a Jax state. Got second row tickets plus some money, don't recall how much. The opening act was a band called McKendree Spring who had a Mellotron. It took about six of us to hoist that heavy fooker up 4 ft to the stage. Did I mention how heavy those things are? Anyway, it was a great show. Ramblin' Gamblin' Man was his only hit at the time and that was the encore song. Posted by: BackwardsBoy says #PurgeProgressivismBAMN at May 24, 2019 10:15 PM (HaL55) 62

Wrong. Stupid song. We could have a reasonably fight if you'd said Born to Run. Born to Run, Darkness on the Edge of Town, and the River were as good a three album stretch as any artist is entitled. Just think of it. There's never been an ONT exactly like it ever before. I'd say there'd never be one exactly like it ever again, but MisHum might take it as a challenge. As if the foot of water we've already had in the past week isn't enough, here comes the next wave of storms. We're already on only one road out... and it's been known to flood. Oh, well. We're high enough and relatively dry... for now..... Posted by: mindful webworker - click for vids blog at May 24, 2019 10:21 PM (rPjB9) 102

The Forbidden Places On The Earth You Are Not Allowed To Visit
Lots of rumors about Metro-2 in Moscow. Wikipedia: The length of Metro-2 is rumored to exceed that of the public Metro. It is said to have four lines, and to lay 50-200 meters (165-660 ft) deep. It is said to connect the Kremlin with the Federal Security Service (FSB) headquarters, the government airport at Vnukovo-2, and an underground town at Ramenki, in addition to other locations of national importance. It supposedly incorporates a Metro station under the Kremlin, which has never been opened to the public. (Stalin gave a speech there when the Germans were close to Moscow.) Besides having bunkers in the system, a key function of the system allegedly is to allow the leadership to evacuate the Kremlin, go to an airport, and fly out of Moscow, without public notice. So I stuck my head out the door just now, to see what the weather was doing, and heard a loud flapping of wings, and two mallard ducks flew up out of a puddle in my driveway. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at May 24, 2019 10:39 PM (7njPr) 192
Eagles first three albums are their best. After Joe Walsh joined them, they lost their edge. I really like JW and he's a monster guitar player, but I don't think he was a good fit in that band.

I recall a great bad English Chinese sign in a business many years ago [restaurant in Malaysia]: "Chinese Eaten Here"
During the Korean War, my father was serving in Japan. There was a local restaurant that was popular with the American military personnel. The water supply in that part of Japan was sometimes contaminated, so in an effort to reassure their American customers that the restaurant's water supply had been checked, the restaurant had a sign: "All water in restaurant personally passed by chef." Funny someone brought up Bob Seger as I was giving the Night Moves album a spin for the first time in over 30 years. Terrific album. Mainstreet is one of the best song about longing for a girl ever.....
Springsteen gets a lot of flack-deservedly so for his politic-but Darkness on the Edge of Town is a fantastic album and his first two--both from 1973--are interesting and promising. But I think he started to suck as soon as they hung the mantle"Voice of the Working Man" upon him...but he accepted it, so it's his fault. Also, Seger sings rings around Springsteen. You can still get CoorsMillerBud for less, but even they followed the uptrend in price over the years. I was crunching some numbers, and determined that he played 489 live shows from the start of his career to age 40. From age 40-50, he played 481 shows, bringing the total to 970. From age 50-60, he played 1015 shows, more than doubling his career output prior to age 50. He averaged 100 shows a year from 1991-2001. I haven't added up everything from 2001-2019, but he has slowed down a bit since then. He only played 84 dates in 2018 at age 77. Posted by: rickl at May 24, 2019 10:55 PM (sdi6R) 259

They most certainly can. "Owing allegiance to the US" means they swore an oath to uphold the Constitution. "Adheres to their enemies" doesn't specify whether those enemies are foreign or domestic. And only enemies would attempt a coup here. "Giving them aid or comfort" means complying with said domestic enemies wishes to oust a duly elected President despite him having done nothing legally wrong or anything else worthy of real impeachment. So fuck yeah they can be tried, convicted and hung for treason. Don't let anybody tell you any differently. I can understand now why Millennials complain about never having enough money to cover the student loan payments;
You do have to admire the creativity of the Left - Federally-guaranteed student loans funneled billions of dollars of new money into educational institutions utterly controlled by the Left, and created a helot class of people who are $100,000 in debt for useless gender studies degrees, who have a perpetual sense of grievance, that can be mobilized into political activism on any subject the Left finds desirable. Frankly, I don't see why they aren't rioting in front of their alma maters - after all, it is the colleges and universities that pocketed their money and ripped them off. Yet, somehow, it's middle-class taxpayers' fault for not bailing them out. Posted by: The ARC of History at May 24, 2019 11:20 PM (I2/tG) Posted by: booknlass at May 24, 2019 11:20 PM (xIKXj) 368

I think the Founders deliberately defined treason narrowly in the Constitution because the King had been abusing it.
It sounds like it can only be imposed during an actual war. The last time Congress formally declared war was in 1941. I know that in Iraq and Afghanistan, the neocons told us that an "Authorization for the Use of Military Force" was practically the same as a "Declaration of War", and we shouldn't trouble ourselves about it. Really? Then why the different wording? And why have we not actually won a war since WWII? Posted by: rickl at May 24, 2019 11:23 PM (sdi6R) 378

from rock cut and quarried elsewhere on the island, or were simply made by sculpting pre-existing volcanic pipes. Large stones weighing 50, 100 or 400 tons can be moved with primitive technology. More impressive in some ways than simply moving them, is the material itself. Egypt in particular, has rose granite statues, andesite and diorite boxes, carved out of single block with internal 90 degree cuts accurate to an extreme precision and then highly polished. It's insane.
However it was done, it wasn't with copper chisels. They also had core drills, an archaeologist, Petrie, examined granite cores that show spiral cuts, very clean and a feed rate of a tenth of an inch per revolution. It doesn't have to be aliens, but I don't believe there is an adequate explanation for this. The large stone walls all over in Peru are another REALLY strange deal. Up to 12 sided stones that interlock perfectly. I'd love to get an old school bricklayers opinion on those. Posted by: Common Tater at May 25, 2019 12:23 AM (jpzQ9) 529

Everyone would show up to work the next morning and there would be disk drives piled against the doors, holding them shut. Not really sure senior Dems feel all that much pressure. Recall the alternative universe - very permissive - in which they operate. Their "smart, educated" supporters read the NYT and listen to NPR. The rest marinate in the "news" as shaped by AP, alphabet networks, radio. Or are just voting drones, from either skin color, inertial/inherited tribal allegiance, or pure self-dealing [guvamint union members].
The info sources will continue to dramatically suppress/modify/twist, more brazen by the week. The aforementioned elements of the base won't see what many of us see, or understand/care what it's all about anyway. And over-laying all this, their incredible irrational orangemanbad complex. Yeah, enough "swing" voters may be exposed to enough info that they actually act or think at least somewhat like thinking citizens, and that's the Dems' nightmare. I saw Bruce Springsteen on the Born To Run tour at Ann Arbor's Hill Auditorium, a concert hall, and he was a great performer and a pretty good songwriter at the time. I saw him again in Ann Arbor in 1980, when he asked Bob Seger to come up on stage for an encore, doing Thunder Road for the second time that night because that's what Seger wanted to sing. There is an audience recording below.
True story. My little sister was in nursing school at the time and she was supposed to babysit for our 1 year old that night. She stood us up so we took the baby. My sister ended up becoming a huge Springsteen fan and has met him a couple of times, says he's been gracious. I've met Seger while covering the Detroit Auto Show (he gets VIP access to the media preview), he's also gracious to fans. I don't like Springsteen's politics, but Seger isn't exactly a right winger. I'm from Detroit so of course I think that Seger deserves more credit than he gets, but then there are folks in Asbury Park that think that Southside Johnny is better than Springsteen. Did we know about this?
A federal judge on Friday night blocked President Donald Trump from tapping into Defense Department funds to build parts of his US-Mexico border wall. ------ The injunction was to protect "the aesthetic and recreational interests of the plaintiffs". Just so we know what's important. Posted by: Miklos, unpersuaded and unsurprised at May 25, 2019 12:04 AM (QzkSJ) Its all about the "Night Fishing"... Turning to Plaintiffs' aesthetic and recreational interests, Plaintiffs provide declarations from several members, detailing how Defendants' proposed use of funds reprogrammed under Section 8005 and then used under Section 284 for border barrier construction will harm their ability to recreate in and otherwise enjoy public land along the border. See Dkt. No. 30 (Del ValDecl.) 7-9 (alleging harm from border barrier construction and the accompanying lighting in the Yuma Sector Project 1 to declarant's "ability to fish" and general enjoyment of natural environment); You didn't realize? People need to be able to go "night fishing" within major drug corridors at the border without flood lights scaring off the fish. Posted by: Serious Cat at May 25, 2019 12:59 AM (GtG/j) 620

Only buy Cassettes that show NO wear from car type decks.
You don't want to see any casing rubbing or tracking. Then, check the felt pad to make sure it is still securely fashioned to the 'spring'. Worst case scenario, you can loop out the tape and re-glue with gel style superglue. Use a toothpick to get the tape out of the way and a different toothpick to apply the glue. I used to record my own cassettes, as many of us did.
Bench matched pair of Akai studio grade cassette decks. Unit 2 rolled exactly 99.5% of the speed of Unit !, to prevent resonance feedback in a deck-to-deck recording. Otherwise, Unit 1 was fed via either the JVC CD player, calibrated by local audiophile service center, or the JVC QY-75 turntable with top end Micro Acoustic direct electret cartridge. From either the turntable or CD player, I could produce tapes that no factory cassette would ever dare to challenge. And those tapes, played in the GL-1500 Gold Wing Aspencade's tape deck, would ROCK that bike down the highway at any speed. Best 'Wing reaction w/ stereo blasting. Greenwich Village, NYC. Pulled up to a pizza joint, with The Rippingtons cranked up for some rockin' jazz. The bike drew spectators to the curb where I'd parked. There was no Pizza in peace...I was kept busy answering all the questions, including "did you really ride that all the way from Texas?" Why yes, I did. Tried RockAuto. They had them all, and the seals, too. Would have run me about a hundred bucks CDN, not too bad, all things considered. But postage, on packages from three sites, would run me another $40, with delivery time (mail) "indeterminate". Canceled the order in the shopping cart. Forty bucks shipping for stuff, that in the aggregate, weighs under a pound, is just too damn high. If RockAuto wants to penetrate the Canadian market in any way, they are going to have open a fulfillment center in Canada, and then ship "internally" from their sources to that point, and then ship onward from there in one package. Just the reality of cross-border shipping. For now, I will just clean and repack the old wheel bearings, which are not damaged, just old. I feel like I should write a long, protruded essay that is syrupy-thick with sarcasm and disdain noting the similarity between Johnathan Swift's Modest Proposal and the trope of the modern leftist "women's reproductive health" advocates in New York City.
Alas, three things prevent me from doing so: 1) No one under 30 knows who the f*ck Johnathan Swift is, much less his writings. They were ignored in favor of intersectionalist trans-fag, butt-fisting theory. 2) I'm an ignorant, puerile bartender, hardly capable of stringing together any sort of cogent thought such that any of my musings would fade into the realm of obsolescent obscurity in the digital realm, unseen by most, ignored by many, and unmoving to all. 3) I've been at work since 9 am, some 16 and one half hours ago, and I'm too damned tired to even try anymore. It's his fair-weather toy. I will clean and repack the present bearings, and maybe try the bearing suppliers in Calgary on Monday. There are several such; Calgary has a pretty good industrial base. Hits that a '17 could survive would light the '24 up like a Ronson Lighter. Flack could break a Liberator apart like a Jenga tower, in today's parlance. Just above the wing-box, extending aft to just short of the waist-gunner's stations, was an internal fuel tank in the upper fuselage. Mr. Folke-Wolfe finds that with his 20 mm cannon, and the waist gunners, radioman and navigator were the first to go. There's a PBY 4 (USN Liberator, single tail) under restoration at the Lone Star Flight Museum up at Ellington Field. I've been doing some serious oil changing in all my tractors, and it's been several years since I was up on all the latest API specs, and I noticed something. Shell's Rotella-T, along with similar products used to be a "fleet oil", both C and S rated. But no more, most of their and other diesel oils are just C rated, CK-4 being the latest. There is some new "FN-4" spec, I see as well, but that is really different, EPA pollution control shit. Anyway, I was wondering what the deal was, and why they are no longer S rating their diesel oils. It may have something to do with the phosphorous content and modern catalytic converters. Do you know anything about this? Posted by: publius, Rascally Rapscallion of a Poperin Pear at May 25, 2019 02:00 AM (NMAzL) 748

Using "allies" as work-arounds for forbidden domestic surveillance is not entirely new, though still scandalous.
Using them aggressively, for entrapment ["OCONUS lures"], and other ways we already know occurred during the Keystone Coup, on *a presidential campaign, and a transition team* has no known precedent and is a mega-scandal of historic dimensions. None of which matters, necessarily, in terms of political outcomes - as I said above. There is no press, as the concept has existed most of our history. This is now a "country" where storybook immigrant policemen are murdered by dirtbag multiple-deportees protected by state/local guvamints *on Christmas Day* - and the uproar is ...... 2 on a scale of 1O, over in a week, and already forgotten. Just one of thousands of examples - there were probably a few outrages just today [of which you might hear of one or two, maybe ..... no press]. Trump looks extremely good for re-election, to the extent one can say such things sooooo far in advance. That's actually a different topic. Just speculating that the jaw-dropping, historic crimes that may be exposed might have a tiny fraction of the impact some expect - and which in an America that is gone, surely would have. So what is the best way to clean rust from metal? (Aforementioned brackets for a drop leaf table.) They work, but look awful.
I imagine it would be similar to cleaning rusty garden tools? Posted by: My life is insanity at May 25, 2019 06:22 AM (Z/jzm) 849
844 Makes sense as Democrats are all fine with Hillary selling off uranium mines and Bill earning hundreds of thousands for a hour speech in Russia.

mlii - typically we use a wire brush, hand operated or powered.
Posted by: sock_rat_eez - they are gaslighting us 24/365 at May 25, 2019 06:26 AM (isI7q) 852
Naval jelly does a job on rust, you coat it on, let sit then wash it off. Wire brush and steel wool will help.

I imagine it would be similar to cleaning rusty garden tools?
Posted by: My life is insanity Probably. On the auto shows they usually have a product or two that takes the rust off, and/or stops the rust and chemically changes it. I do not know how well they work though Posted by: Bruce at May 25, 2019 06:27 AM (vd8XM) 854
They are now... chocolate chip or oatmeal raisin?
Posted by: My life is insanity A combination. Oatmeal, chocolate chips, M and Ms, peanut butter. Wife says they're a PITA to make, but it's our "niece's" son graduating HS and wife promised them. Posted by: Bruce at May 25, 2019 06:29 AM (vd8XM) 855
I inherited a bench grinder that has a wire wheel but sometime ago just decided to not work. I used that often on garden tools and should figure out why it stopped working.

The naval jelly does work on the chemical reaction that causes rust, then cleaned off and primer will extend its use.

I figured I'd have to paint them after. I suppose that depends how well they clean up.

Going to Fort Ligonier!!...Awesome. All my family is from the Ligonier/Waterford area. Want a great breakfast place, hit Ruthies Diner at 1848 Route 30. Swing by "Ligonier Beach" and Storybook Forrest. And of course visit The Diamond. Lots of great things to see there, you'll love it.
Posted by: Sua Sponte at May 25, 2019 10:47 AM (jU4N4) 875
Welcome to western PA--my neck of the woods! Unfortunately Ligonier Beach is closed at the moment after last year's flooding bankrupted the owners, but Ruthie's is still open and so is Idlewild Park/Storybook Forest! Have a great time!
If you have time, visit Linn Run State Park and Beam's Rocks. Posted by: Jeannine McDevitt at May 26, 2019 07:52 PM (GksYx) Processing 0.07, elapsed 0.0961 seconds. |
