39 I always wonder what reference materials the painter used to create these works. He could have made sketches of the girl in that pose but the dog would have been problematic. Yet he perfectly captured the mutt's expression. Genius.

Posted by: kallisto at May 21, 2019 09:40 AM (+RF8x)

40 I really like this painting on two levels.

Technically I like the way the artist captures the look of the old, dark wood, suggests detail in the carpet, captures the skin tones of the little girl, and makes the proportions right.

The other level is the scene is sweet and adorable. I can always use adorable.

We had a husky from a pup. He was 3 or 4 and used to jump on the bed (captains bed with drawers in the base). I'm not a fan of dogs on the furniture, and he knew that. He would sleep at the base of the bed until he knew we were asleep and would jump up and sleep at the foot of the bed.

Shortly after my wife got pregnant, he stopped jumping on the bed. Never did it again.

I've loved and lost several cats. The one who was with me longest, Arizona the red tabby part-Maine Coon, lived to be 16.5.
