Creepy Porn Lawyer and Former CNN Fixture Michael Avenatti Indicted by Federal Grand Jury on 36 Counts, Including Ripping Off $4 Million in Settlement Money from a Paraplegic, Mentally Ill Client

The honorary Permanent Expert Analyst of CNN and MSNBC has been taking other people's money for some time now.

Celebrity lawyer Michael Avenatti was slammed Thursday with a 36-count indictment by a federal grand jury in California that accuses him of ripping off clients -- including a mentally ill paraplegic -- tax crimes, wire fraud, bank fraud, and perjury.

The indictment comes more than two weeks after federal prosecutors in Los Angeles and New York hit Avenatti with separate criminal complaints.

In the New York federal case, Avenatti is accused of trying to extort more than $20 million from Nike by threatening to expose alleged bribery of amateur basketball players and their families unless the company coughed up cash to Avenatti and a client.

...

Celebrity lawyer Michael Avenatti was slammed Thursday with a 36-count indictment by a federal grand jury in California that accuses him of ripping off clients-- including a mentally ill paraplegic -- for millions of dollars, shorting the IRS of millions more, swiping millions of dollars in employment taxes from his coffee company, and perjury.

The indictment comes more than two weeks after federal prosecutors in Los Angeles and New York hit the 48-year-old Avenatti with separate criminal complaints.

...

U.S. Attorney Nick Hanna of Los Angeles said that Avenatti's allegedly criminal conduct spanned four distinct areas, which "are all linked to one another because money generated from one set of crimes appears in other sets -- typically in the form of payments to lull victims and to prevent Mr. Avenatti's financial house of cards from collapsing."

An IRS official said that the money stolen by Avenatti though "a tangled financial web of lies" was "used to fund a lavish lifestyle which had no limits."

Here are the details on how he stole -- yes, straight up stole -- $4 million from his mentally-ill paraplegic client.

He never told his client that the money had been paid, and then, over a series of years, paid out to him a meager $124,000 or so, telling him these were merely "advances" on a settlement that had not yet been paid.

This is theft. This is grand larceny.

This is evil.

This... is CNN.

tapperavenatti.jpg

Update: Avenatti presented a signed affidavit from this client affirming that Avenatti had represented him ethnically.

The grand jury alleges that Avenatti tricked this mentally-ill client into signing it.

Huffman's already pled guilty, I do believe. Just waiting for sentencing.

In what is the wildest case out there, Allison Mack from Smallville was way high up in the NVIXM cult. Apparently she changed her plea to guilty last week and now the prosecutors are asking for a delay in the trial of the main guy. Which means it's highly likely she's flipped.

That story gets more and more bizarre the more you look into it.

This is true. But in Avennati's case, I think the decision to hit him came from the Dems. They were unhappy with his handling of the Stormy mess, they were angry about the Presidential ambitions, and they were furious at him for pissing in the Kavanaugh pool with the Swetnick thing.

I'm pretty sure some Democrat picked up the phone to the DoJ and said "It's time."

After each speech, he has been asked to speak at more Democratic functions. He will follow up that appearance on Sunday -- after an early morning flight -- by appearing at "Hillsborough County Democrat's Summer Picnic" in New Hampshire, a crucial state for presidential contenders.

Avenatti has said he is attending the events to talk to voters and listen to their concerns, but his actions speak louder than his words and Democrats close to the lawyer believe he is now seriously considering a 2020 run.

Which leads me to another fun question: Have any of the Democrats, any one else in media capable of reflecting on this? That they are in mortal danger tangling with The Donald? That they better retrace their footprints back to the start line right now?

Maybe - but this has been in the works for a while. The reason he is so screwed is that about a year ago, one of his own office employees started to fear for her own safety because he was acting crazy and shouting abusively at all of the staff, so she got in touch with the FBI - and she's been covertly sending the FBI copies of every financial record he has for that entire time.

That's why he's so screwed, that's why they don't need to worry about subpoena's for anything - they've already got hard copies of everything he's ever done.

Of the many, many lessons, of this, one big one is Don't Piss off the Help; they'll get back at you in ways you never dreamed of.

Not at all. The Piano won Oscars. Hustle and Flow was a popular success ("Slap that bitch!"). Fifty Shades of Grey, Greyer, Black, and Blue made money like it was going out of style. Bernie Sanders claimed that women have gang-rape fantasies - not just rape fantasies, but gang-rape fantasies! - and he's a serious contender for the dem candidacy.

Nothing strange about the NVXIM cult, at all. Typical rich, white self-hating nihilists and some guy taking advantage of that. The story of modern America. It's society that's really, really fvcked up.

I saw an account in Slate (Yes, I know). Alcohol was a factor, and peer pressure. The branding seemed to be a surprise, (cannot believe I'm typing this) after the target agreed to lie on a table. The supermarket industry in New England is incredibly fierce.

This will likely hurt stop and shop a lot, consumers have lots of other options.

264 OK stupid question: Why is there not a law that says the client has to go get his check form the judge or the court. Why is the lawyer some God like figure that has no checks or balances on his financial/internal control structure? Why is CPL getting his hands on money that was never his?
Posted by: Cuthbert the Witless at April 11, 2019 02:31 PM (ymnmz)

Tort lawyers typically work on contingencies, so they get the check, take out their third (plus expenses), and distribute the rest to the client (with a fair and accurate accounting!) according to the deal they set up.

And sometimes we're talking about people (like this guy in jail) who may not be in the best position to manage their own affairs, so part of the deal could be for the lawyer to pay them out over time in installments. Or to use some of the money to pre-pay some of their expenses or something. The court doesn't want to give some homeless drug addict or whatever a check for $4 million, ya know?

But generally... the money transfer is only facilitated by the lawyer, and is in the clients account pretty f'ing quickly after settlement (minus his fees).

299 SHAME on Ivanka Trump for joining in on this disgusting virtue-signalling leftist tweet-storm to falsely promote a single person as being primarily responsible for the black hole photo (despite it in reality being the result of hundreds/thousands of people around the world working together), solely as a way to fraudulently assign a "scientific achievement" to a woman, to add her to the ranks of "great scientists," as part of the anti-man agenda:

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-6910721/ MIT-graduate-Dr-Katie-Bouman-computer-scientist___-black-hole.html

If you read the details, all she did was help to code the "photo-stitching" software to combine multiple images into one -- a commonplace bit of software in most cameras and photo-editing applications. Sure, fine, yeah, kudos for coding some image-editing software -- but that does NOT make you the next Einstein (as the feminist tweeters claim), nor does it make you even a groundbreaking coder; and more importantly (not the coder's fault -- she's not the one making the claim) it steals credit from the other thousand people who devoted their lives to this project and did much more difficult aspects of it.

Ivanka should not have legitimized this hackneyed "let's promote girls in science!" garbage.

They are also rolling out stock checkers going from aisle to aisle checking actual inventory of items.

How soon does the first get linked to the second and a third rolls out of the back with just the required amount to fill the niche on the shelf.

We do just in time delivery all over the country now for just about everything.

There's pretty much nothing stockpiled anymore so this would just be an extension of that and since it would all be done human hands off, it would be fantastically fast. The slowest part will be the driver of the truck from the producing plant to the loading dock.

Great point. I've long wondered about that, too. Surely there must be some female Asperger's types out there too?
Posted by: Deplorable Jay Guevara

As I said on the original chess thread about this:

There is no female chess league. In 99% of chess tournaments, everyone plays against everyone, with no gender/age/race/anything segregation. They are come-one-come-all "open" tournaments.

That's true for almost every tournament int he world that normal people would ever play in.

The only time there are special "women only" tournaments are:

-- National championships
-- Major international "invitation-only" GM-level tournaments with mega prize money.

And only the top 0.0001% of female chess players ever get invited to either of those type of tournaments.

And the main reason the international big-prize money tournaments have a chick section is just to get publicity and media coverage. Everyone (especially the chess players themselves) know that the games in the women's section of these elite tournaments and inevitably MUCH weaker and error-filled than the games in the men's section. Becuase women, for whatever reason, are simply weaker at the elite level. By many orders of magnitude.

Currently there is only ONE player in the top 100 worldwide players who is a female (Hou Yifan). And in all of recorded history, there has only ever been ONE female player ever to reach the Top 20 worldwide (Judith Polgar, for a brief period).

And this is not because of any "prejudice" in the chess world -- if anything, the prejudice is reversed, and chess associations go out of their way to help and promote any and all female players.

Anyway, short version: There is no "female chess league." But women are indeed much weaker at chess on average than men. Ratings don't lie.

The commenting software is programmed to strip out all HTML instructions, for security reasons. However, when it sees BB code instructions (or at least a limited subset thereof), it is also programmed to translate those few "safe" instructions back into HTML when compiling the comments. If you look up BB code on the Internet you will see what it looks like, but it basically just uses square brackets in place of the HTML pointy brackets to enclose its formatting instructions.

The show's been on for over a decade. It's hard for a good show to continue on that long and stay good.

At a certain point, the actors get typecast, they're too popular for their character so they can't branch out into doing anything else, and they're too important for the show to not pay them obscene sums of money to keep doing what they're doing.

I think Avenatti has watched too many bad movies if he seriously thought he could try to blatantly shake down a publicly traded company like Nike like that.

At a minimum, you have to go the Reverend Sharpton route -- hint that your "race problem" might go away if the company "invested" more in the "community" (aka donated to his non profit).

But calling up the general counsel and saying "give me 20 million (or whatever) or I'll fuck you over so hard your stock price will drop?"

I mean, come on!

502 The Berkeley chess club was FULL of guys who played chess pretty much every waking hour. And they were damned good at it, too. IIRC, there were quite a number of nationally ranked players there.
Posted by: Deplorable Jay Guevara

Back in the late '70s/early '80s there was a brief attempt to create a "National Chess League" with teams representing various cites, just like with the NFL or MLB. The moves were conveyed by telephone.

The league only lasted for a few years, but during that time, the Berkeley Team was always either #1 or #2, as a result of having a crushing Murderer's Row of top GMs and IMs and former US Champions. Even though population-wise it was by far the "smallest" city in the whole league (100,000 population -- vs. NY, Chicago, etc. etc.).

So yeah, Berkeley was at one point a major chess powerhouse. Count yourself lucky to have been there!

536 487 >Avenatti presented a signed affidavit from this client affirming that Avenatti had represented him ethnically.

Because, of course he did.

Judge: Mr. Client, when you signed this letter, were you aware that Mr. Avenatti had already received your $4 million settlement (years ago), that he had spent your settlement on hookers and blow, and that he has been lying to you for years about it?

Client: No, I did not know that.

Judge: Now that you know, is it still your opinion that Mr. Avenatti represented you ethically?

Client: Judge, can I ask you a question?

Judge: Certainly.

Client: What does "ethically" mean? Because Mr. Avenatti told me when I signed the letter that it means "like shit," but now I'm not sure I can trust that guy.

Judge: Thank you. Bailiff, please take Mr. Avenatti into custody.

537 How in the fuck did Avenatti think he was going to get away with that?!

I think its a combo of arrogance and the fact that he had gotten away with it before. I mean, this is the guy who went to Nike demanding a payoff or he'll sue for 8 kabillion dollars, of which he was planning to give like 1% to his client.

538 I seem to recall an entire week of Orange Man Bad coverage regarding Trump's "mocking" of a handicapped writer (even though he had used the same 'derp' act/mannerisms to ridicule someone else.)

How will CNN now shame Avenatti -- their hero for speaking "truth" to power and potential democrat presidential contender -- now that it is known he actually screwed over a handicapped person?

539 CNN's finest. In other news, just saw a recent picture of Tom Arnold buddying up with Cohen. BFF's! Arnold says that Cohen is going to give him even more evidence against PDT. Wasn't Arnold the one that was BFF's with someone affiliated with the show The Apprentice that had tapes of PDT making racist/misogynist remarks? Never heard a peep after that.

Rats that swim in the same sewer. My apologies to actual rats.
