27 Happy Snowmageddon 2019 - Part III - Electric Blizzard Boogaloo

8" on the ground so far - halfway through the Winter Storm Warning. Weather guessers had us down for between 8-16". At this point, I'd take the over. Heavy wet snow BUT the damn wind out of the ENE is so strong that there is considerable drifting. 50 MPH gusts. Full-on whiteout conditions in open areas. All the schools are closed again - adding the the all time records for most snow days. We had already broken the all time snowfall record - now we are just running up the score. We will be between 9-10 feet of snow this season when this storm ends.

I have this overpowering urge to duct tape AOC to a telephone pole and letting her experience "Global Warming" first hand. Just for 24 hours or so.

35 It bugged me that I had not known why it's called Tiergarten, (animal garden), so I looked it up. It had been a hunting reserve for a Kurfýrst (princey prince) with a fence around it to keep the critters in.

Friedrich the Great didn't like hunting, ripped down the fences, and made it a public park in 1742.

38 So, this thing about the consent decree ending that actively hamstrung the RNC from pursuing certain types of legal action in elections:

https://pjmedia.com/instapundit/327263/

I had no idea this was a thing. The judiciary in the early 80s effectively made it illegal for the RNC to mount certain challenges to individual elections because it might have been racist to do so.

How did I not know about this at all?

Reminds me of Red Mars, the book by Kim Stanley Robinson.

The main character (if there is one, it's an ensemble) insists that he's not political, but goes on to constantly give Marxist speeches about seizing the means of production from Earthers.

It's weird how communists don't see themselves as political while, at the exact same moment, insisting that everything is political.

They probably don't see it as political, because to them, it's a moral imperative. Like the old Puritans, their goal is to legislate their morality and force everyone into Paradise whether they want to go or not.

Unlike the Puritans, their ideology is a self-contradicting pile of excrement. Their Earthly Paradise will never be, and it's always someone else's fault, because like the cultists they are, they can never question the holy dogmas laid down by Marx and Lenin.

106 63 Breaking news about John Lennon:

The message brought forth by "Imagine" is virulently anti-capitalist, also railing against religion (though not faith) and nationalism. Its critics, therefore, had a field day pinning the counterculture legend as promoting Communism. John Lennon clarified that he did not identify with any political movement, but that elements of the song were more or less a rewording of the Communist Manifesto.

119 "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" by The Tokens (1961)
Another day, another children's song that doesn't mean what you'd thought your whole life. That's right, there's no lion sleeping tonight, not in the mighty jungle nor the quiet village. Well, not in the literal sense anyway. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" is a lot more profound than the whimsical verbalization of what brings to mind image of the opening scenes of Disney animated classic "The Lion King."

Originally recorded by Simon Linda but made widely popular by The Tokens in 1961, the lion in the lyrics refers to a person and not a big cat. The lion is commonly regarded as the king of the jungle, and in this song is code for the highly influential early 19th century king of the Zulus, Shaka Zulu. The "sleeping" Zulus, lead by Shaka Zulu, would one day "wake up" and defeat the British regime of the time.

176 It bugged me that I had not known why it's called Tiergarten, (animal garden), so I looked it up. It had been a hunting reserve for a Kurfýrst (princey prince) with a fence around it to keep the critters in.

Friedrich the Great didn't like hunting, ripped down the fences, and made it a public park in 1742.

Erich Honecker was an avid hunter. Too avid. During his rule, East Germany would have to regularly import animals from Bloc countries, because his massive State Hunts would depopulate the forests.

Oh, I heard Paul tell a story about that. Badfinger were signed to Apple Records and they needed a hit. So Paul wrote "Come and Get It". Then he made the demo, playing each instrument.

Then he gave it to the band and said "you'll have a hit if you do it *exactly* like this".

194 The ex-pope's letter very specifically mentions "homosexual cliques" inside RC seminaries. But "Sixties Sexual Revolution" is right up there with "The Spirit of Vatican II" and will get all the attention.

In related news, the college formerly known as Wheeling Jesuit has announced that it will no longer have any "humanities," like music, history, and literature, concentrating instead on majors that offer immediate employment.

Someone brought up barber college and beautician school (there is a pun on "Esthetician," a kind of beauty operator, and the philosophical study, Aesthetics), but when an actual academic asked how you could call it a Jesuit university with no traditional liberal studies, well, the Jesuits announced that they would be revoking their affiliation.

So now, the university's problem with plunging enrollment should go away pretty quickly, wouldn't you think?

200 119 "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" by The Tokens (1961)

265 I was surprised by the comment section on Powerline. The blogger there is covering the Justine Damond murder trail, and he was in favor of the media getting hold of body camera footage of the victim dying.

Anyone who questioned it was immediately sneered at as being perverts... for sharing the same dread as the victims' family. The blogger himself paid lip service to it, saying that he understood that" they had an interest". Not that they had rights; but "an interest."

It brings to mind another murder case where a woman in NH was abducted and killed, and her body dumped in a river. The media got access, for the same BS reason, and pictures of her naked corpse (clear view) were published. The family was livid, and obtained a settlement.

The fact that the media got away with calling themselves a "proxy for the public" was total BS.

276 The Brexit stuff is a very strong example of the aphorism, "Personnel is policy."

Teresa May might have been a decent caretaker PM in quiet times, but having a damp squib Remainer at the helm during the Brexit negotiations is/was tragic.

My level of knowledge re: British PMs is sparse, but I did see someone compare her unfavorably to Lord North (the guy who lost the 13 colonies and is often cited as "The worst PM in history" for it).

The line was something like, "She's gotta be worse than Lord North. He only lost America; She has lost Britain."

And that's looking about right, right now. Poor bastards.

308 "Wimoweh" was a Weavers song (meaning they stole it first from the actual writer) before it was a doo-wop song. With any song the Weavers did, it is a safe bet that there is a "hidden" (thinly veiled and hammer-headedly obvious) secret word-communist message. It's just what they did.

It has finally become humorous, decades later, that they did all those kibbutz songs like "Tzena, Tzana" and Have A Negilah! because they thought Israel was triumphantly ringing in an era of brotherly socialism. I had <friends> all through the Sixites who "symbolically" wore the S of D. They got over that damn fast after 1973. Same folks are pet Palis now.

You're thinking of craven. Cravenness is shying away from all challenges out of fear.

Cowardice is related, but different - it's only picking fights against people who can't or won't defend themselves.

It's picking on Christianity, for instance, because Christians don't fight back. Why do you never see Atheists targeting Islam? That's because they are cowards.
