Michael Avenatti Charged by Feds for Shakedown Extortion Against Nike
AND ALSO, Being Charged in California on Separate Wire Fraud Charges!

Hmmm... who'd've thought that a woman who is either a blackmailer or someone staying juuuuuust on this side of the blackmail line would be attracted to a shakedown artist as a lawyer?

Disgraced philanderer Ryan Lizza tweeted something the other day like, "*pssst:* the real action has always been at the SDNY."

Well, Avenatti's being charged in the SDNY.

Come on -- aren't you getting a little tired of #Winning?

There'll be press conferences at 2 and 2:30 but I don't think the news can wait that long.

Hot Fire:

thanks to HA.

Wut? Avenatti's being charged by two different prosecutors for two different sets of crimes?

This might be about the allegations that he hid or misdirected his law firm's revenues to protect them from being seized when the firm broke up and/or went bankrupt.

But I don't know that; I'm guessing that just based on the venue (California) and the types of charges.

In the words of Don Trump Jr.: "If this is what you say it is, I love it!"

More: THIS DAMNABLE WINNING, WILL IT NEVER END AND LEAVE MY DICK IN PEACE?!!

Thanks again to Ha.

15 You know who else this seriously hurts? The jackwagon leakers and "inside voice" like Brennan that the media has been relying on.

See, they were so certain and so sure, and so confident in Trump's demise because they had special inside information from Top Men that was better than what anyone else had. They had special intelligence.

And now they know that was all BS, that they were lied to, deliberately, and that these people who lied to them cannot be relied on for anything. They might even have a serious grudge against these scumbags and be willing to actually report on them.

The complaint in California alleges Avenatti "misappropriated his client's settlement money and used it to pay expenses for his coffee business, Global Baristas US LLC."

He also allegedly defrauded a bank in Mississippi to "obtain three loans totaling $4.1 million."

What he is accused of having told them - that is textbook, law school type example of Extortion.

Avanetti's collapse was inevitable, he was running as hard as possible to avoid it, but it was right on his heels the whole time. The SPLC has been a corrupt, evil con job for decades and been treated seriously."

Agreed - and I think you can see how all of Avenatti's media success last year filled him with the hubris needed to take this dive. He was always on CNN, always being told how great he was - but he was spending money like crazy, being pursued by creditors, and he wasn't actually making a *dime*. He kept hoping for a big payoff, but then the whole Stormy deal collapsed, and Desperate Men do Desperate Things when they have to get a Million quick.

And so he cooked up this scheme. Stupid, stupid, stupid - but then the way he acts makes me think he's been doing a lot of coke or meth or something as well. He's just got that look, that style.

400 Brennan had his top secret clearance revoked, yet still kept breathlessly promising indictments of the kids and other things.

Right, he was one of their Deep Throat voices that the media kept listening to.

Read that apology from The Hill and it all becomes clear. They had Top Men whispering in their ear Secret Special Knowledge and Inside Intelligence. It was so good they believed it even without any evidence or support, they wanted it to be true.

That's why they were so certain. That's why they were absolutely sure, that's why the "walls closing in" thing kept coming up. They were being fed a careful tapestry of outrageous lies and never once questioned it.

Even when one lie was proven wrong, they figured the OTHER lies were true. This is where all that certainty came from.

But now that the lawyer behind her nuisance suit against Trump -- Avenatti -- has been exposed as a criminal himself, the lat conning tower of USS Leftist-Coup-d'Etat has sunk below the waves."

Not to mention that the John Edwards precedent kills that entire line of argument completely. Trump made the payments out of his personal funds - legal, even if it was campaign contribution, since candidates are not limited as to personal expenditures. John Edwards made hush payments directly out of campaign funds, and he STILL was found not guilty of any campaign violations.

Btw, in the "It's a small world" dep't, do you know who was John Edwards top aide, the man in charge of making those payoffs at the time?

536 >>>539 Fuck Avenatti, obviously, but just how fine a line is it between extortion and garden variety civil litigation settlement negotiation?

quite fine. In fact, extortion codes have a specific exemption to permit threats made to gain money when there's a proper legal justification (Retract that or I'll sue you to kingdom come!, etc.).

That will be his case.

That said, if the lawyer really has no genuine basis...

and here it sounds like he was self-dealing, not for his client, but purely for himself. First of all, that's automatic disbarment.

But more importantly, it means his threat did NOT have a proper legal basis because there is no legal basis for a lawyer to just say "give ME the money or I'll make your life hell." You can say "Give my CLIENT money," but when you say "give ME the money and I'll go away," now you've left any role as a lawyer and now you're just a shakedown artist.
