Tonight We're Gonna Party Like It's Nineteen ONT

Thursday night was always the big party night in college. I don't know why, we did have classes on Friday, but hey. Of course, we never partied like these guys:

Founding fathers.jpg

Super Smash Bros

GAY COUPLE DISCOVERS THEY ARE IN FACT LONG LOST TWINS

Ugh. I can't even. Why wouldn't you tell your kids they're adopted? (I know, it's satire. I just fell in love with the title for this section. NOT THAT THERE'S ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT!)

Jesse Needs Help

That's true.

I don't care how hot a woman is, the hot/crazy matrix only goes up to 10. If she's beyond that – on either axis – I'm staying far away. There was an article today in The Bulwark (I read these things so you don't have to) lambasting Jesse (and Kurt Schlichter too) for being a racist white nationalist.

Bulwark.png

CBD said it very well in this morning's rant:

"White Nationalism" is what Orwell warned us about. Do not let the Left take control of the language and the terms, because that is their first step in the totalitarian dance, and they know the moves and music very well.

If there is any one phrase to describe it, perhaps "American Nationalism" is appropriate, because the melting pot concept is one that is tried and true and helped to create the greatest economic engine in history, and one that worked quite well for a very long time.

There are plenty of 6th generation Americans who can trace their lineage to Mexico, and there are plenty of 2nd and 3rd generation Americans who can trace their lineage to pretty much anywhere in the world...and that's great! But the operative word is "American." Assimilate, embrace our political institutions and Exceptionalism, and presto...instant American.

And that is "American Nationalism." It is not color...it is love of country. But I guess that's too simple a definition for some.

It's not “too simple” a definition, it's too accurate, and they are deathly afraid of accuracy. They have to classify the opposition as “racist”, because it's the only charge that has enough caché to shut down debate before it happens. $tormfr*** is the largest white nationalist site online, and it has maybe 2-3000 members. The neo-Nazis had a tiki-torch racism rally in Charlottesville, and didn't even attract enough people to fill a high school gym. White nationalism, fascism, neo-nazism...whatever you call it, it's all a dead letter in modern America. The dragon has been slain, but to admit that would be to admit to the world that all they're doing is charging their nags at windmills. So they pull out their tired old paintbrushes and slap a new coat of “racism” on America to justify their existence. Interesting factoid: The author of the Bulwark screed spends a great deal of time selectively quoting Schlichter's books to portray his hero, Kelly Turnbull, as a white nationalist – yet nowhere in any of the books is Kelly's race or ethnicity revealed. Projection is not just a river in Egypt.

(Oh, and JFTR, the girl that Jesse was joking about being “hot”? She's a faith healer for horses.)

Doctor, Doctor, Give Me The News

Doctor tells patient he doesn't have long to live through hospital robot's video screen

They send a robot into this man's room to tell him he's dying, and then, to add insult to injury, he's hard of hearing so his granddaughter has to relay the message. Just horrible all around. Assembly line medicine, coming soon to a deathbed near you.

Semper Why?

Venezuelan Army Attempts to Scare US Marines with Video

The big secret revealed here is that Bill Murray and Harold Ramis are apparently training the Venezuelan military. I have to admit that one part of the video is pretty scary. Watch at about 1:20. They are firing on full auto with weapons that don't have any mags in them. That's impressive!

737 MAX thread

Interesting thread on what's the real problem with the 737 MAX

Two things: #1) I'm not an aeronautical or software engineer, so I don't know how accurate this guy is, but he sounds plausible.

#2) It's at Zero Hedge, so don't read the comments.

That's Probably NOT What They Logged On For*

Still funny though.

*If you're not familiar with what most people use sites like this for well.....lets just say that a clue can be found in the name of a nearly identical site called “Chaturbate”. They've been know to offer a five finger discount to members, IYKWIMAIKYD.

and lived (and worked) at home; and went to the the Big U and did work

was working at!) and finished with money in my bank. Of course this was
back at the end of the 1980's, so it is likely much worse.

24 I read a number of biographies of the founding fathers years ago and Madeira kept coming up quite frequently. They drank it a lot. According to the internet it's made on islands off the coast of Africa that Portugal controls to this day. I don't know if there was trading agreement with the colonies/Early America with them or what, but they had plenty of that stuff to toss down.

Also it's fortified wine. Probably the Founding Fathers would've been impressed with MD 20/20 and Boone's Farm.

48 With respect to the horse healer lady:

Pro: likely don't have to worry about her showing up looking for child support.
Con: likely DO have to worry about her amputating your penis in your sleep, just to ensure that you don't breed with anyone else, either.

So... on the whole, the calculus would indicate that giving this one a miss is the preferred strategy.

software performed their jobs according to spec without error. The
specification was just shitty.

Actually, a shitty software specification IS a software problem and it should have been caught during the DO-178 software certification, especially since this is Class-A software. The fact that one of two faulty sensors will cause a trim runaway is more evidence that Boeing took shortcuts with the software testing. But don't blame Boeing, everyone cheats on that software testing because the FAA has created a system that is insanely time consuming and unaffordable.
As we often say: Aviation is safe, in spite of the FAA.

114 Venezuelan Army Attempts to Scare US Marines with Video

The big secret revealed here is that Bill Murray and Harold Ramis are apparently training the Venezuelan military. I have to admit that one part of the video is pretty scary. Watch at about 1:20. They are firing on full auto with weapons that don't have any mags in them. That's impressive!

I finally broke down and watched this. Sad.

Shouting *can* be effective, but "rebel yells" these ain't. And the lack of magazines is obvious and depressing. Anyone who has ever fired a weapon would have BS sensors tripped immediately based on the motion, if nothing else.

This can't be real. I'm going with "hoax" on this one. If it is real, then Venezuelan guerrillas will be able to jump straight to the "mopping up" phase.

At a minimum the AOA sensor on the 737MAX and the damn Airbus airspeed pitons could have had a backup.

220 the Charlottesville thing seemed like a planned ... and as Trump said correctly, there were good people on both sides.

Continuing from last thread, the problem is not "so many stupid people in America" (that is a different problem) ...

the problem is Us (American citizens)

versus

Them (globalist elite, the DC uniparty, the academics, the mob)

in the US category there are some leftists maybe, but normal people, and there are all sorts of people that work together, get along fine, with differnet views ... Except When the political hot buttons are pushed ... by media mostly. But of the normals, they are mostly good people on both sides ... who on both sides, recognized the THEM, the DeepState corrupt machine.

We have to get more people to see the enemy is THEM (DC liars), not each other. It is already popular to control immigration, it is only THEM that refuses to do it. Good People on both sides ... may have to walk away from some of the loudest mouths, but reasonable people (the majority still) can be red pilled, imo.

Early '90s, flying the home-leg of a Boston to Houston to San Antonio flight.

Departing Houston, there's but three passengers on the MD-80, but the plane has to be repositioned for the next day's schedule, so they didn't scrub the flight.

Taking off from Houston, the pilot seriously put the coals to the boilers, went to max steam pressure and, well...

Let's just say that was one of the more enthusiastic launches (more than a mere "takeoff") I've ever experienced.

I don't know what clearances the Pilot had got from Departure Control, but damn, the angle and rate of climb had to have been kissing the yellow zones on the panel, and the time-to-altitude was "already?!"

Bonus. Flying 1st class back in the real Continental days... the ladies tending to us there were more than generous in handing out the one-ounce-pacifiers.

I deplaned with *all* Bailey's, thankyouverymuch!

265 pretty interesting on the Boeing problem. They say it was not a software problem ... but it sorta was because they still plan a software fix. But the reason for the first software fix was because of economic and hardware issues.

Boeing (they said) sold an option package with an extra monitor in case one went bad and got a bad reading (which may have started the problem in the crashes). Planes with the extra monitor have never crashed ... sounds like they need three monitors, and not as an option.

iirc, Trump just closed a deal with Vietnam when he was there, for a bunch of Boeing new planes ... the same plane.

what, but they had plenty of that stuff to toss down.

Cubans in Venezuela could be just so many dead Cubans, if the Air Force/Naval aviation wanted it to be so.

Different era, but the Cubans did not lack for courage in the fight in Grenada.

What they lacked for was modern equipment, ENOUGH equipment, reliable communications and competent leadership above the NCO level.

But fight, they did.

While I'm in the camp that a modern Marine Combined Arms Force would grind up the 20k Cubans in Venezuela, I'm also in the camp that the Cubans will put up one helluva fight.

At least for a while, but likely a bit longer than Saddamn's Republican Guard.

they saved some money using the old frame, jerry-rigged it in a sense, to make it work. Overcame issues with a software fix, but that led to other issues. Not sure why the vane was maybe prone to fail, but when it did, it took experienced response in fairly short order.

The fact they sold the "fix" as an option doesn't sound so good. So now if one vane disagrees with another, pilots will know quickly. But still need to be prepared for a response that should not be needed if the airframe and engines had been designed together.

I'm no pilot, had just watched a few videos on this issue. Another video guy said he thought pilots had gotten a little lazy because computers do so much of the flying ... I have no idea, but would correspond to other things in American life.

328 re: 737 Max 8

Here is a doozy with 1950s high tech. The ventral speed brake on the F-100 Super Sabre was not supposed to deploy if the plane was carrying a centerline tank because the center cut-out was not wide enough on the speed brake. There was this micro-switch who's job that was. It NEVER worked properly and many speed brakes crunched into tanks. So they widened the cut-out so it would clear the center store.

I'd believe that, I've worked in computer automation most of my professional life. It wouldn't be the first time the human that was supposed to watching wasn't. When things go well, the watching is boring, but when it fails it's spectacular.

AVE (dick in a vise guy) has a good video speculating on a design failure wherein after repeatedly correcting a creeping failure of the angle of attack sensor, the sudden failure resulting in the plane nosediving to earth, requires instant troubleshooting and a three step process to override, as your shitting your pants, and as you are seeing your life flash before your eyes.

Sounded plausible. Could be some amount of pilot error. But it seems a bit of too much to ask of any human, if true that the design was subject to a simple single failure and requiring a complex diagnoses and correction as you are about to slam into the earth.

410 Little known fact - A experimental Delco battery was installed in a Segway 'scooter', which was kept in an 3rd(?) floor office. Caught fire, set off sprinkler system, flooded building.

It's surrounding by comprehensible things and it is so unbelievably big that I literally did not see it. That was unnerving.

In the Che/Angola era, South Africa's military was easily "Israeli Grade" by every measure.

They said "no math in the ONT", but you can do the calculations there on your end.

Short version. Che and his guerillas were run right the fuck out of Angola.

IIRC, they fled to Bolivia. And we know the history, from there.

Addendum: Che's "guerillas" were NOT Cuba Regular Army troops. Nope...they were Army rejects, political favorites and other military-rejects of one form or another.

They were doomed to fail when the embarked TO Africa, in the first place.

One funny thing I heard was that the Japanese were puzzled by the use of the shark mouth on the P40, because the shark was basically a fish, and why would it be used on something that flies in the air.

Peak summer, humid day.

Nope.

One hunter, one guide.

The helicopter hog hunt outfitters West of Houston have some interesting data as to loadout limits.

It's not the "redline" that sets the limit.

It's 90% of being "in the green", and they're not going to tickle the "yellow" range, on a dare.

They keep some rather wide margins in their flight envelope, as you might imagine.

Cheer up, 'ettes.

Those bints are only winning and sweeping, in the narrow focus of a very sympathetic media, at best.

Political Reality will soon curbstomp them into the dustbin of history.

This will come from actual voters who recoil in horror at what apparitions appear now before them.

That Pelosi seems powerless to stop them, is less to their strength, than to Pelosi's thin veneer of authority and command.

She's not only old, but ancient, having lost enough of her edge to fail in this modern arena.

Won't be Pelosi that stops them, though.

AOC especially, is pissing off the bulk of her electorate, most of which slept through HER election, but won't the next time.

The muslim menace?

Her district might again carry her. But I doubt it, and even if she wins, I don't think Pelosi remains as speaker in a Trump second term.

Frankly, I don't think the Dims hold the House, then, either.

591 Think Cuban involvement in Angola was long after Che - around independence time (mid-70s) and the ensuing civil war, in which the Soviet/Cuban-backed tribe, er, political alignment, prevailed (i.e. had the capital, most of the territory, but most importantly the oil). Regular Cuban expeditionary forces, of the type also sent to Ethiopia in the same era.

Talked with some Cuban soldiers at an airport in the middle of the night in another African country, refueling stop for most flights in the region, they were coming, I was going, to Angola. Just small talk in portspanol. This was the 80s.

The Angolan war featured one amusing absurdity imagined by mediocre Hollywood writers and others but rarely actually found - and the Cubans had a part in it. Cuban troops guarded Cabinda, the oil-rich exclave of Angola. Oil work was done by ..... American oil companies (Gulf, mostly, I think). I think the main threat to the area was from the FNLA (Holden Roberto), a group ..... that received US assistance, one way or another. Been a while but I think those details are correct.

Yeah, not that many. IIRC... and my memory may be wrong... It was a rather small cadre, all things considered. Also a surprising number did survive, due to various factors, not least shortage of fuel and planes. They couldn't get all of them in the air. Someone with the stats might contradict this... I'm going off memory only here.

Yeah looking forward to sleeping again myself. I'm getting by with 2 hour blocks, maybe twice a day? I imagine once the steroid taper really kicks in (Sat I half what I'm on) I'll get some reg sleep again but at least the level I have is doable and not making me manic so plus.

Down side is I start half falling asleep on the radiation table but I need to actively keep my shoulders out of the radiation path. But if these are my big "problems" I'll take them with a smile.

637 Luckily I haven't crashed. I'll take this over that as I've done it from other mood swings and suspect mania to crash would be something I couldn't do on my own without some amazing results, and I've had enough drama/excitement for a good while now.

Course, I could maybe handle just a little Powerball jackpot win excitement I think.

664 Man... I love sausage patties with maple syrup.

When I was a kid, I didn't like bacon. All of my relatives thought I was from some other planet, but I was a sausage patty, sometimes links, kid.

I can't eat any of that stuff now and I miss them a little, but pizza is the One Thing I crave.

I'm just blessed that I love fruits and vegetables because it is easy to stay on a low-Sodium diet that way.

I can save all of my daily sodium intake for a Restaurant-Quality dinner. I also got the Good News that Jesus is Coming I can now have up to two-thousand milligrams of Sodium instead of the one-thousand I was told, previously.

It is Much Easier to comply with that! It means that I don't have to split my Sodium between seasoned chicken breasts and salad dressing when I am plowing through an awesome salad. (I can even have a pickled banana pepper!) *Fuck Yeah*

I Thank You all for your prayers. I can physically feel them when I get that tingle in the spine, from out-of-nowhere.

My goal is to Stay Off the Table and be as healthy as possible to avoid the inevitable liver transplant.

There's this singer, Idena Menzel who started her career as a wedding singer. In a concert DVD I have she talks about how so many times the couples would like her to sing the Whitney Houston song for their first dance:

♫ A few stolen moments is all that we share
You've got your family, and they need you there ♫

To commemorate their wedding day. A song about infidelity.

The UN Human Rights Council adopted a report critical of Israel over its handling of the violent events along the Gaza border over the last year. The report accuses Israel of war crimes and deliberate targeting of protesters. 23 nations voted for the motion and nine voted against, 14 abstained. Spain was the only European nation to vote for the report.

Spain ha? Ok, I'll remember that

731 727 Islam is the Ultimate Crackdown.

Under Shari'ah, everything interesting, fun, or unique is forbidden.

Everyone must conform, and the ONLY allowable outlet is Jihad.

And global governments LOVE that.

736 I wonder if NZ will ban trucks when some muz drives one thru a crowd. The PM already has this prepared statement:

" To owners who have legitimate uses for their trucks, I want to reiterate that the actions being announced today are not because of you, and are not directed at you. Our actions, on behalf of all New Zealanders, are directed at making sure this never happens again"

She's an honest broad. I can't remember when, but Sarah Hoyt tried to excoriate Vox Day not so long ago.

Vox Day is dry, but he's straight-to-the-point honest. He is one of the intellects that I admire throughout the Media.

It's the 'suck every ounce of joy out of life' crowd. People so miserable in their own existence they demand others suffer as much as them.

Which is why socialists and islamists can climb under the sheets together.
