Trump Signs Executive Order Re-Affirming That Colleges Must Defend the Right to Free Speech Or Lose Federal Grants; Also Demands Schools Provide a Report Card on Their Students' Ability to Repay College Debt

Keeping promises.

President Trump on Thursday signed an executive order to promote free speech on college campuses by threatening colleges with the loss of federal research funding if they do not protect those rights.

"We’re here to take historic action to defend American students and American values," Trump said, surrounded by conservative student activists at the signing ceremony. "They’ve been under siege."

"Under the guise of speech codes, safe spaces and trigger warnings, these universities have tried to restrict free thought, impose total conformity and shut down the voices of great young Americans like those here today," he said.

A senior administration official said the order directs 12 grant-making agencies to use their authority in coordination with the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to ensure institutions that receive federal research or education grants promote free speech and free inquiry.

This order does not really order schools to do more than they're already supposed to be doing -- but it is a shot across the bow that the law will be actually followed going forward, and noncompliant schools will be punished as the law provides, and that "compliance" may be interpreted more strictly than it has in the past.

He also directed schools to start reporting on how their students repay -- or do not repay -- student loans accumulated at their schools.

It's funny, the people the GOPe shills and their leftwing allies insist to me were "Honorable" lied to me constantly. Like when John McCain ran for reelection with a promise made in an ad to "Build the Dang Fence," then immediately opposed border fencing when he won, or when he ran for years on the promise to repeal ObamaCare, then sided with his Very Good Friends the Democrats when he had an opportunity to vote for repeal with a president who would sign that repeal into law.

I have a theory on that: It's not lying if you're lying to people unworthy of honesty. Just like a knight didn't have to offer honorable combat to ruffians or commoners -- just other knights or those deemed to have "honor" (often a matter of bloodline and breeding), our politicians aren't really lying if they just lie to the Deplorables, who are deplorable.

The Deplorables, wack-a-doos, and Hobbits need to be lied to to be steered into being tricked into passively accepting the GOPe/liberal line. And McCain knew that -- and he was courageous in his willingness, nay, eagerness to lie to Deplorables to inflict the globalist GOPe/liberal transnational progressive line on them.

Meanwhile -- this liar Trump, huh?

See, he's dishonorable because he keeps promises to those who are themselves dishonorable.

McCain was a Noble Man because he lied to Deplorables who are not owed the truth; Trump is an Ignoble Monster because he keeps faith with the Deplorables who should be treated like animals, not human beings.

Sort of Related: British police investigating journalist for the crime of "misgendering" (an Orwellian term meaning "correctly noting the gender of") a tranny.

Remember: there was a time when mccain wasn't going to endorse Bush -- Fake News made a huge deal about it.

Again, in 2004, we all had to hope mccain would grace Bush with his endorsement -- and he kept us in suspense until nearly the last minute because he and Fake News were floating rumors mccain would be Kerry's veep.

If people are going to deify McCain, then I shall retort. And if Meghan McCain is going to go around squealing BUT MY DAAAADDDDYYY then it's only fair to point out what her charming piece of work Daddy did to her half siblings, now, isn't it?

Funny how I don't see Super Moral Arbiter of Moralness David French being disturbed in the slightest about McCain ditching the woman who stayed true to him while he was a POW and getting a freaking marriage license to marry the heiress he dumped her for before the divorce was even final.

Having trouble believing that 120 hours gets you a degree worth having. Students Must have a clear plan on what your major is and no major changes. I graduated with 135~140 I was definitely not as efficent as I could have been, but I knew majors that took 150+ to graduate.

I think they were horrified that this gauche terrible person won and were hoping against hope that something, anything could save them from it. This is actually a principle in business law. If students could discharge loans in bankruptcy, the student loan market would not exist. Not collapse- would wink out, overnight. No bank could ever afford to extend a student loan. It would cause an immediate and worldwide depression, even if only American loans were involved. And that's with adults co-signing.

I don't doubt it. But at the point where millions of Americans lose their homes when millions of students declare bankruptcy, the American people will be ready to flay everyone who eats lox on bagels, never mind works for a bank. Costs are out of control because the shitbag government works to enrich bankers and academic institutions. Your input was never solicited, is how they accurately see it.

It's enough to radicalize people, when they realize the import.

Posted by: trev006 at March 21, 2019 08:57 PM (KqKQP)

296 Here's the calculus: how many loans to Grievance Studies majors would actually perform?

Conversely, how many non-performing loans would it take to put lenders under water?

I'm guessing that at any reasonable interest rate, a 10% default rate would obliterate most if not all of the return to a lender.

And a 10% default rate on such majors is pretty much a given.

315 Just listened to Randy Newman's album from what? 35 years ago? "Good Old Boys."

The track "Rednecks" is a take on shitkicker attitudes, with a focus on racism in the mold of Bull Conner. The chorus line end, "keepin the n^gg^rs down" is the hook of the tune, and a good one.

A clever songwriter could rewrite it and reverse the races, make the phrases even more racist, and do the chorus line as maybe "keepin the white man down."

410 Palin nearly dragged McCain across the finish line. If I recall correctly, they were leading in mid-September just before the stock market crash. Then he suspended his campaign to go to DC and vote for a massively unpopular bailout.

McCain threw the election, all right. Remember when the campaign announced that they were pulling out of Michigan and Palin was all like, "Wait, what? We can win it. Let me go campaign there."

And no candidate in history has ever said "You have nothing to fear from my opponent" in the middle of the campaign. That's the sort of thing you hear in a concession speech.

Because a decade of declining interest rates, loose money, declining standards, and funny business will catch up with you eventually. The cracks were showing for well over a year before it blew up. If anything "triggered" it to happen then (I don't think it did - the market was on borrowed time from early/mid '07), it is the normal political tension associated with an election.

No one spiked McCain with the economy. McCain spiked himself by suspending his campaign, voting the outrageous TARP and TALF plans, and delivering his concession speech before the election.

They were sharply divided on whether to save Bear Stearns the year earlier, and took a lot of heat for bailing out failures - as they should have. No one spiked McCain with the economy. McCain spiked himself by suspending his campaign, voting the outrageous TARP and TALF plans, and delivering his concession speech before the election.

Juan "No Mas" McCain.

I well recall Sarah Palin questioning why their campaign was abandoning Michigan. "We got another jet to crash!" was the best rendering of the answer supplied to her, IIRC.

473 As a Republican running mate, though, it would have been a disaster. "Unity Ticket" is probably never a good idea, and it was a sure-fire loser in 2008. Palin was a much better option.

Yeah if the idea was to peel of Obama voters, there was no damned way. If the idea was to pull in independent voters, McCain's warmongering belligerence was pushing them away. And while I have some respect for Lieberman, he wouldn't have made conservatives line up to vote.

If your own side has to beg you to vote for McCain even though you hate him, you cannot win.

Lol. My husband roasted some and tossed the oysters in a hot iron skillet with unsalted butter and fresh lemon juice and passed them around, even as people were shucking. They were delish. However, we also have a friend who works for an marine science institute nearby, and last year we were able to put a couple of bags in his refrigeration unit there until the next day when we could shuck the rest and make large quantities of oyster stew.

I know a lot about this topic. Lehman was bleeding for days and there was a justified run on the bank - everyone was draining it, sometimes in huge quantities. The week before it went tits up, Lehman failed to acquire overnight financing in the repurchase market because the other banks (primarily BofA) looked at the collateral they were trying to swap and said, "this is all crap, what else you got?" Lehman answered "nothing" and all the institutional folks started taking their money out. This was possibly illegal and definitely unseemly because they acted on non-public information, but the dessicating husk of LEH started to collapse immediately following their repo failures.

In the category of "half-a**ed" border barrier work, military is helping add concertina wire to a section of existing fence (this is old fence, not new bollard-style fence) in the eastern San Diego sector. Range day today, spoke with a BP agent on the road leaving, he described the work. And the club got some left-over support poles of some sort the military said was surplus to them and they didn't want to haul back.

That something so common-sensical, obvious, and beyond argument like border barriers to help combat cross-border smuggling, human smuggling, other criminal activity, and illegal migration can be treated as something controversial, and actually openly opposed by a major political party, leaves me very doubtful the country can be turned around. It's been failing IQ and common sense tests for years, but this is sort of definitive.

Posted by: irongrampa

If you read about him and look at it objectively, he comes across as quite a mixed bag.

He was a real asshole at Annapolis, and a legacy. His grandfather was one of the most respected flag officers in the Navy in WWII.
He crashed at least one A-4 during training.

He was lucky he wasn't killed in the famous deck fire on the Enterprise.
He was grievously wounded when he was shot down, and could have died in captivity. He also refused early release, because it was a propaganda move - by then his own father was an Admiral in the Navy.

When he came home, he dumped the wife that had been waiting for him, and married Cindy because she was a babe and her family was rich. That paved the way for him to start his political career.

Keating 5. Acting like an a-hole in the Senate from time to time. yeah, all of that.

Yes. If (anthropogenic) climate change were real, the strategic side of it is political, not military - unless you need a retrenchment to deal with new enemies or enemies with different motivations or allies becoming enemies due to predictable consequences. It could (and, if it were real, likely would) change the strategic *landscape* but it is not itself a strategic threat.

Shirley you don't think any GOPe member will follow PDT's lead and actually do what they say in the future, do you? They'll lie their asses off and laugh at us for believing them. There won't be anything we can do to them once they're elected and they know it.

They'll just go back to being the selfish assholes they've always been.

Posted by: illiniwek at March 21, 2019 09:44 PM (Cus5s)

Disagree, it is an IQ problem, but a mixed bag one. The top Dem Supporters are very smart, and consequently very rich. Worse, they are greedy, evil, lack morals, and thus are willing to sweet talk their many supporters that are nowhere near as smart or rich into believing lies and getting elected over and over due to Dem voter inertia.

It was a sit down debate, IIRC.

I did Community College for the first two years; knew which in-state Big Ten university I was going to; got all of the basic stuff done for free and lived (and worked) at home; and went to the the Big U and did work in-dorm (never moved out of dorm because why? Look at that cafeteria I was working at!) and finished with money in my bank. Of course this was back at the end of the 1980's, so it is likely much worse.

That reminds me, I need more range time.

A couple of years ago, I had no problem talking politics with the most Leftie of Lefties. There are a lot of them around here.

The 2016 election changed things for the worse. It simply isn't worth my time to discuss, because the insanity has overtaken so many of them. One guy in particular, known him for over 25 years and saw him at least a half-dozen times every year. We, and others, would have discussions annually at a big weekend gathering at a friend's on the Pacific ocean. He and I would go on all night, seldom agreeing, but generally enjoying it.

Now, it is "HE LIES, HOW CAN YOU DEFEND HIM!!" and I have given up trying to talk at all about politics. I tried to talk about the Mueller/Fake Dossier/Coup attempt, and he won't let me finish a sentence.

I even prefaced by saying that every fact I was telling him was documented in a court hearing, Congressional testimony, or an interview that was available. HE LIES!!! was the continued response.

Sad, really.

562 "John McCain had several enduring character traits which he displayed throughout his long life.

He had a penchant for abandoning those to whom he had sworn allegiance, he didn't hesitate to stab in the back anyone that got in his way in his efforts to advance himself, he consistently inflated his life story to make himself look better, and he was particularly churlish with those who got on his wrong side.

These are not my opinions. They are provable facts as you will see."

564 "but the dessicating husk of LEH started to collapse immediately following their repo failures."

I lost track of any details, but The Big Short says Morgan got the SP ratings to keep the ratings up on their bad leveraged housing positions so they could get out. Goldman same, was selling junk to their customers to save themselves. Lehman (afaik) was not the only one in trouble. AIG ... much of the banking system saved ... to become our overlords.

Everything became "financialized" ... 25-30% of GDP stock market capitalization ... went to 150% now ... People that "run money" own everything, AND get government protections.

The rich have undue influence on our government ... they "own" it.

565 McCain screwed millions of Americans out of decent coverage by his lies as a senate and presidential candidate.

He defended South Vietnam's borders but not America's.

His signature line; "I'm John McCain and I approved this message." His campaign finance law was meant to keep dirty money from buying secret smear campaigns--EXACTLY what the Dossier was.

And as a Viet vet, he knew how the CIA overthrew Diem. Yet he was helping Brennan overthrow an American election.

We all stood by him when he was running--including Donald Trump--but he didn't return the favor. He shit on his own legacy.

566 I've often advocated here the near-elimination of guaranteed student loans. Here's the deal, no loans to schools with more than $50 Million in endowment funds.

Let the schools make the loans, they can afford it, and they will become *very* attentive to the marketability of their students, or at least to the ones that will get loans.

sure, but the attack has gone on 50 years, from Russia with no love. These are not low IQ people pushing the globalist crap ... many are right in the universities, even the sciences. They have been captured in a cult, and it is orchestrated by globalists, DNC, FBI ... those are the criminals pushing TheNarrative.

Red Pilling can turn things, Trump is sorta showing that. But the lies have been intertwined deeply. Some real prosecutions would help break the spell ... a handful of websites are trying to force the issue. I think it is more mass psychosis than low IQ. the Hysteria is manufactured.
