Chase Bank Now Routinely Closing the Personal Bank Accounts of Conservatives

#MuhPersonalBusinessDecisions, the Corporate "Cons" lisped.

John Hawkins has had enough:

[I]ncreasingly monopolistic social media companies that have an inordinate amount of control over who gets heard and who doesn't have started actively targeting conservatives and we just shrug or spout platitudes.

"If you don't like the way they do it, take on those monopolies with hundreds of millions of users and billions in cash by building your own company."

So, what happens when banks and credit card companies target people for their political views? Do we need to build our own banks, too?

Activist Laura Loomer, who has already been banned by PayPal, claims she had her account suspended by Chase Bank.

Enrique Tarrio, the black leader of the Proud Boys, a group that has laughably been branded a white supremacist organization by liberals, was also suspended by Chase. So was Martina Markota. And Joe Biggs, who made enough of a stink that Chase reluctantly gave him his account back.

....

Certainly, there are an awful lot of liberals who would love to see us enter a world [in which banks demanded proof of political correctness before providing services]. In fact, there was a column in the New York Times last year calling for weaponizing the financial industry in exactly this way to shut down the gun industry as part of an effort to deny Americans their Second Amendment rights.

..

Republicans in the Senate should demand that Chase executives come before them and answer some hard questions about targeting customers for their political views. Maybe we need to rewrite banking regulations to make sure this kind of discrimination can't occur....

You may have heard someone say, "the Constitution is not a suicide pact." I would add to that "capitalism is not a suicide pact." Breaking up monopolies is a conservative idea with a long track record.

Part of the problem is that the left has made it its top priority to infiltrate/pressure corporations to advance the left's goals -- including the goal, now, of complete censorship and discrimination against conservatives -- while Corporate Cucks declare that any pressure exerted by the right to merely not act as the left's censorship police is an unconscionable assault on the cherished principle of Corporate Autonomy.

These idiots, and frankly, these bribe-taking grifters, do not realize that there is no "corporate autonomy;" the left has created shareholder lobbying groups to push corporations into acting as the catspaws of the hard, Maoist left. The right's refusal to engage on this battlefield does not result in corporations having full autonomy to pursue their own self-directed business interests; the right's refusal to engage on this battlefield merely cedes the battle to the left, and permits corporations to be pressured and hijacked by the left.

Just because you're not interested in the culture war, doesn't mean the culture war isn't interested in you -- and that applies even more strongly to corporations than to to people, because corporations are how the left achieves policy objectives it cannot achieve through electoral political victories.

30 As you say, Ace, breaking monopolies is not a real problem, and we ought to. Now, most of these companies aren't actually monopolies, but they are definitely a cartel and so very similar rules apply to them.

The problem with the "if you don't like it, go build your own" idea is that the organizations you'd be fighting against won't allow it.

Don't like YouTube? Okay - go build a new one (BitChute). Now we'll just demonetize you by freezing you out of the payments system.

Don't like Twitter? Okay. go build a new one (Gab). Now we'll just deplatform you and kick you out of hosting unless you bed to our will.

Don't like central control of distribute patronage like Patreon? Okay. Go build a new one (pending). Watch for the credit-card play to be made again.

We can go on and on and on with this. The traditional answer of "go build your own if you don't like it" doesn't work when the major technology and finance players openly collude in restraint of trade against competitors. This is bad on its own, but is made worse by its ideological basis.

They should all be broken up. The companies that aren't outright monopolies are operating as a cartel and they should be destroyed.

Yes, the Internet will change and be harder to use. Some services will vanish. Many things that are "free" now will be charged for. Many banks will fail. The stock market will fall. Interest rates will rise. This will not be a consequence-free course of action.

It will nonetheless be worth it.

86 We made a huge, majestic mistake in 2008. The correct answer then was to break up the big banks. "Too big to fail" is "too big to survive" - they got that big through bad decision-making among regulators and rife fraud and corruption among the banks themselves.

But no. We made them even *bigger* instead. Now fixing the problem (which at its root is breaking them up) will be much harder, more traumatic and more expensive. Better to quit waiting to do it and just get started.

Make it very clear that freedom of speech applies and that if the banks don't comply, they'll lose their seats at the Primary Dealer table and be replaced by regional banks.

The groundwork that was laid in the 80s of permitting funny accounting so the banks could "grow out of the problem" (Citi was given very special regulatory treatment. They had cashflow but were bankrupt and the regulators looked the other way) begot the bailout culture of which we got a foretaste with 'Long Term Capital Management' and the repeal of Glass-Steagall which permitted institutions to reach the "too big to fail" condition in the general case.

Glass-Steagall was one of the only good pieces of Depression-era legislation, and it mitigated systemic banking risk. Its repeal set the stage for what happened a decade later.

125 imo "racketeering" is what is happening. Powerful political leftists co-opting industry, and the corporate giants also seizing the opportunity to advance their globalist agenda. The left and the globalists/corporatists both agree that totalitarian oppression would be useful to advance their agenda (destroying individual liberty and nation state sovereignty).

Racketeering laws (RICO, anti-trust, probably some others) ... were (allegedly) designed to address this, but the DeepState took it in another direction. When HSBC got caught laundering $2B in drug cartel money, that globalist banks (20 of them) threatened "financial contagion" and we backed down, no jail for them. (after we had them dead to rights, thanks Lynch)

TARP was the same sort of threat held over our head, and the banks got bailed out and "reinflated" by screwing the savers (and pushing them into stocks, which inflated the corporations). America is being extracted into the accounts of leveraged globalist gamblers, as the debt on TrueAmerica goes hyperbolic.

Keeping stock markets inflated is not what a real economy is about ... but so many are fully invested now, they count on that magic money machine for retirement, in case the government fails on its ($220 unfunded) promises. Not sure how this ends ...

MUST never, not CAN never. This is why the powers that be want to go cashless so desperately.

There are two problems with this:
1) The plebes don't like it. Even in nearly-cashless Sweden, where the government directly encouraged businesses and people to refuse cash, it hasn't worked and they're walking it back. It marginalizes too many people.
2) Although point 1 won't stop them forever, our corruption helps us in this case. The US government finances a lot of shady shit with pallets of Benjamins. If those can't repatriate because we're cashless, it becomes a big problem if you want to keep on behaving like that. I think our government's corruption might act as a bulwark against its evil in this particular case.

I'm trying to find the thread on this that connects the dots - it's all there, and it took years to build up to this. It's not random, or spontaneous at all.

FDIC is self-funded. It is backed with a blank check on the Treasury, but it hasn't been needed yet.

Just make participation in FDIC or NCUA contingent on non-discrimination. If you behave like this, you're kicked out of the insurance scheme. You don't have to keep paying, but you don't get coverage and have take down all of the "your money is safe here" placards.

Add to it a small regulatory change wherein if you once participated in the FDIC or NCUA but you stop doing so, you must advertise that change of status conspicuously for at least 12 months in all markets in which you do business, across print, broadcast and internet advertising.

That's the thing, though, as with other Silicon Valley censorship, they are actively working with *foreign* governments and world orgs like the UN to do this --- and then they get their SJW pals here in the US to agitate for these same policies to be deployed here.

If you already have a Chase who has agreed to this policy in many other countries, they're not going balk when some ShareBlue, etc. unleash a twitter mob on Chase to deplatform someone. They've already bought into the concept of providing services based on the customer's merit.

178 I made a comment about RICO on a prior thread. None of the laws or regulations matter. Enforcement is in the hands of people who would rather not enforce them, so they will not be enforced (unless, of course, you break the other way).

The problem is not the law. The problem is corruption.

And having been part of the enforcement, that pisses me off even MORE.

I took an oath when I joined the OCC. I promised to be dispassionate. Part of the exam program would involve looking at loans the bank denied vs what they approved, and that was always interesting (did the bank president override criteria for a golfing buddy....happens quite a bit.). Same thing with account closures...we'd look at what accounts were closed, pick a good sample, and ask why. We were empowered BY LAW to demand answers for that sort of thing. And again, more than once we'd catch a bank trying to rationalize things and say "that customer's business goals weren't compatible with the bank" and yell at them.

This is getting me angry.

186 Same thing happened to me with PayPal. They apparently banned me for my political views. Except I didn't publicize the fact and thus it made no news.

Zombietime has from the start always been "non-motetized" by design: i never accepted ads, never accepted payment allowed free republishing of all photos and writing.

But even so, over the years, I've had money basically forced on me for various reasons. Especially when I started working for PJMedia -- they basically said we're desperate to have you be on staff, but we by law MUST pay you. I tried to convince them to not pay me, but they refused.

Which was a problem, because how can they pay a non-entity like "zombie"?

Well, through roundabout means, I had been was able to set up a PayPal account for zombietime, but in an era when PayPal's rules were more casual and they before they required all sorts of identity verification. All you needed was an email address and a Federal Tax ID number. Since I had co-founded various companies throughout my life, I had various Tax ID numbers to choose from.

So I had PJMedia pay me by making deposits into my PayPal account. For years and years. And I would withdraw the money to a company account at a brick-and-mortar bank.

Anyway, toward the end, I got lazy and left a whole bunch of money in my zombietime PayPal account, and never withdrew it. So it sat there for a few years. And I just assumed it was totally safe, because PayPal has to abide by federal banking laws.

AND THEN, out of the blue, with no warning, YEARS after I had stopped working at PJMedia, I got an email from PayPal saying that they had simply deleted my account, with absolutely no explanation, and escheated the full balance to the State of California of I wanted to get it back.

When I tried to contact PayPal about this, I was told, "We're sorry, we only talk to account holders. Since you not an account holder at PayPal, we are now going to hang up the phone. Click."

I was only then that I searched around and found various articles and blog posts from all sorts of people saying that PayPal has started deleting the accounts of "hate groups," and I guess I was on the target list and got caught up in the banning.

Took me nearly a YEAR to get the money back from the state of CA, but eventually I was successful, after extreme effort.

I sued to bank with Wells Fargo. I had a couple of loans and a couple of accounts with them. As I started to get out of debt, they starting pimping credit at me hard every time I went in. When I paid off my loans, they doubled down.

Every time they did, I told them, "I know you're being instructed to sell me products, but I am not interested. If I am in need of credit, I am fully capable of asking you. Stop the hard sell on credit products every time I come in. Please put a note on my account."

They said they did, and the behavior never changed. I went to the manager my particular branch twice. After that, when I went in and it still happened, I went and talked to the manager again and closed out my account on the spot. He had the temerity to ask me why, so I lectured him on the long rich history of hard-selling me credit when I repeatedly asked them to stop. I had just gotten completely out of debt and money was starting to accumulate finally.

They were pissed and tried to talk me out of it the entire time. It got to the point where I said, "we're talking about *my* money here, not yours. Now give it to me and close this account."

This was before all the news about their fraudulent accounts and bad practices. Moving banks is a pain in the ass, but I am much happier with my credit union. They listen to me when I tell them I am not interested, and they are very helpful and my local tellers and branch manager know me and actually render service.

Yup. They basically stole my money.

THey provably broke a variety of laws, which I researched. They are legally REQUIRED to warn account holders a minimum of THREE TIMES before escheating any funds to the state controller's office, to give the account holder a chance to withdraw the funds. But they never warning me even once. They told it had happened AFTER the just took the money and flushed it down the toilet.

I could have sued them into oblivion and won, but that would have been outing my real identity, which I obviously did not want to do.

I actually had resigned myself to simply losing all the money when the State of CA started giving me all sorts of guff and insane requirements for the paperwork to get it back. I felt they were in on the scam and would NEVER release it to me. But nevertheless I persisted, and jammed their paperwork so far up their ass they had no choice but to refund all my money.

Go try it. You need a charter. Watch yourself get frozen out of real-time processing, too. The Fed will probably not freeze you out of ACH and check processing, but watch the card network walk away from you and for the wire-transfer networks reject you.

Even if you safely argue that none of these organizations are behaving badly and you should just make your own (in many businesses they are right, though money is state-controlled and so in that case they are wrong), if your competition is forbidden by industrial collusion (cartelization) - and it is - then the argument is stupid.

It is stupid in the banking case across two dimensions - the industry is heavily regulated and state controlled and the actors *also* act as a cartel.

Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at February 25, 2019 01:51 PM (I2dne)

228 These actions - in so far as they go after businesses are violations of 15 U.S. Code 1 - conspiracies in restraint of trade. business owners may sue for treble damages and lawyer's fees under 15 U.S. Code 15.
In so far as they are designed to silence critics they are criminal violations of 18 U.S. Code 241 - conspiracies to oppress (1st amendment) Constitutional rights. Law suits may be brought under 42 U.S. Code 1985.

Too Big To Fail.

The Feds have the ability to close banks if a run threatens to create drama ala It's A Wonderful Life. A bank itself can likely make the call after a quick phone call with their regulator (OCC, Fed, FDIC) with little or no repercussions. All that would result, I fear, is such a thing being turned around as proof of the instability of those customers and they *must* be denied access to the bank for the good of the stability and soundness of the national banking system.

"These idiots, and frankly, these bribe-taking grifters, do not realize that there is no "corporate autonomy;" the left has created shareholder lobbying groups to push corporations into acting as the catspaws of the hard, Maoist left. The right's refusal to engage on this battlefield does not result in corporations having full autonomy to pursue their own self-directed business interests; the right's refusal to engage on this battlefield merely cedes the battle to the left, and permits corporations to be pressured and hijacked by the left.

Just because you're not interested in the culture war, doesn't mean the culture war isn't interested in you -- and that applies even more strongly to corporations than to to people, because corporations are how the left achieves policy objectives it cannot achieve through electoral political victories."

Exclusive: Chase Employee Leaks Purported Photo of LGBT Survey Question

Many employees have expressed fear that such a question was asked for the first time in what is a yearly survey. Though the survey is voluntary, they say their bosses pressure them to fill it out. What's more, they say the survey is not anonymous, which means their answers are known and can be acted upon.

Chase Bank Has Pattern of Partisanship on LGBT Issues

Four years ago JP Morgan Chase told a local businessman that he had to remove a Christmas tree he donated to the lobby of a branch bank in Southlake, Texas. The reason given was that some found the Christmas decoration offensive. The order to remove was not made locally. It came from higher ups at Chase.

+++++++++++++
One of the beautiful things about capitalism and the market system is that it naturally contains outrageous corruption through the vicious dispensation of failure. This is why monopolies and cartels are such a problem - they enable corruption at such a scale that it can destroy the system. This is a big reason there is positive interest in breaking up monopolies and cartels.

Back when I was working there, 82 - 86, prison currency was "blue bags". Maxwell House had the coffee contract at TDC. They came in bags for the prison population because they were still being sold in cans in the free world. (Metal being a huge no no in prison) A blue bag was $2.50 or $3.00. (Not a full pound)

This is true, and it's an insoluble problem.

The Founders were counting on it that pluralism and enlightened self-interest would keep enough competing interests at play that the government would always be restrained by various private institutions and individuals.

This worked well for a long time. Now, we've reached a point where all business does the bidding of government. There is no more pluralism, no more competing interests, just monolithic, slavish devotion to the State throughout all major private enterprise. In that environment, the Constitution may as well not exist.

It's something to keep in mind when we set about making the next one.

On the contrary - I cannot forbid you from speaking your mind. I can deny you access to a platform I own, but I cannot keep you from saying what you want to say, certainly without your consent. And if you want to sign a contract with me saying you won't say a certain thing and you decide to violate that contract, assuming the contract is enforceable (which is a big IF, btw...) it's a civil issue at most, not a criminal one.

311 253 OAKLAND, CA -- Authorities arrested a man suspected of shooting the security guard of a news crew that was robbed while covering the Oakland teachers strike, according to a statement by the CBS affiliate. KPIX said a reporter and a photographer were gathering interviews Sunday about the strike at the Oakland Library when a car pulled up and the driver pulled a gun, demanding their camera. The crew surrendered the equipment and began walking away. The suspect then shot the guard, Matt Meredith, in the leg, the news station said.
Posted by: SMOD

Yup, that's pretty much an epidemic in Oakland now: Rubbing news crews at gunpoint of their camera equipment, It has happen multiple times in recent years. And the funny part is, whatever station gets robbed usually has the WORST coverage of the crime, because in every case the robbers have been black men, and they don't want to look like racists by describing the suspects, so the station that got robbed almost never fully reports the crime on their own station.

The aspect that has everyone scratching their heads is: Who is buying these stolen cameras from the thieves or their fences? Because the cameras serve no function other than transmitting images for live TV broadcasts. But who has a need for that, other than a TV station? And they sure as hell aren't going to buy hot cameras. Very odd.

The KKK were individuals not government entities, 18 usc 241 was crafted to stop them from their actions to violate people's Constitutional rights.
"If two or more persons conspire to injure, oppress, threaten, or
intimidate any person in any State, Territory, Commonwealth, Possession,
or District in the free exercise or enjoyment of any right or privilege
secured to him by the Constitution or laws of the United States, or
because of his having so exercised the same;"

But here's this guy, out of the blue, like so many "organic" campaigns of the left (think little George asking about contraceptives).

Why would he make a call now for so many unnamed, unknown people to basically pledge to remove Trump from office?

Note how carefully he said, if he loses? Sounds innocent.

What if he wins, but the media declares he lost?
And now the Democrats are all saying he lost too?
And social media is blocking all websites that say otherwise?
And Google crashes the state secretary of state websites?

Who are you to swear your loyalty to?
Trump?
Or the popular will through the representation in the House?

You're saying, "no way!"

How that is anything more than an SJW appeal to emotion is something that escapes me.
Whatever reasons there are to deal with situations like these, and whatever methods should be used to deal with them, Hawkins is as unaware of them as he is of history. (Conservatives have not been down with trust-busting. Teddy Roosevelt was a progressive. Taft wound up getting criticized by TR for going after the "wrong" monopoly, following which TR threw the next campaign to Wilson. The Ma Bell breakup started under Nixon/Ford, and the judge who oversaw it was a Carter appointee. It merely lasted until Reagan was in office.)
