What Is NeverTrump's Great Strategic Plan for Regaining Power, Exactly?

Tweets below.

He talked about the break-up of the party being about the "Senior Partners" in the coalition -- the Establishment, which actually had a relatively small popular base of support but was closer to power, as they ran magazines and lived in DC -- not being willing to cede any amount of power-sharing to the "Junior Partners" in the coalition -- religious cons, real conservatives -- despite the fact that the Junior Partners were not willing to be mere Junior Partners any longer.

I talked about this Senior Partner/Junior Partner dispute back in February 2016, and I predicted, because it was obvious, the sweeping away of the "Senior Partners" if they refused to share partner and decision-making with no-longer-willing-to-be-pawns Junior Partners. And of course the Establishment did just what I expected them to do -- the stupid thing, because, despite their protestations and egos, they are simply not very intelligent at all. They decided to make all-out war not only on supposed allies but allies who actually outnumbered them, and then were shocked when those allies made war back and deposed them from power entirely.

As I've repeatedly shouted, the GOP must be open to a more equitable division of power through its ranks, or it will simply split apart.

It's true that Trump's 40% is not all of the party, nor is Cruz's 30% -- but then, neither is the "Senior Partner" wing's 30% all of the party, either, though they frequently act as if it is.

But they desperately want their 30% of the vote to continue giving them 100% of the veto power.

BTW, I was long a nonpartisan in this fight and considered the fights between the wings to be inside baseball and petty palace intrigues. But now that the fight is out in the open, and consuming the party, it will have to be engaged with and settled with some sort of resolution.

"We will continue to win all the important fights" is not an acceptable resolution.

A big reason for this, of course, is Obama: Obama is actually the transformationally figure he wanted to be. He is hyperpartisan, and his hyperpartisanship has exerted such pressure on the conservative coalition that the weak fissures in it have begun to crack wide open.

Nevertheless, it is clear to many people that the "Senior Partners," as Douthat calls them, seem to call all of the shots, and they are no longer content with this arrangement.

The Senior Partners simply must permit some reorganization and some serious power-sharing and decision-making, or else they'll be left a rump party, a bunch of chiefs in search of Indians to follow them.

I keep saying this, and I'll keep on saying this: You can attempt a winner-take-all strategy against an actual enemy, in this case the Democrat Party, but you cannot, or rather must not, attempt such a winner-take-all strategy against allies.

Because if you employ this All Out War attitude against allies, they'll first attempt to rebel, and then, failing that, they'll secede.

Trende argues some with that Obese Idiot Tom Nichols, calling that fat sack of fat "delusional."

I don't know why it's satisfying to read someone else writing extremely obvious things, things we've written ourselves ten billion times, but it is. I guess it's just good to see someone else finally figuring it out:

Yeah, I think it's more this than anything.

I think their egos were bruised when they realized they had far less sway then they thought they did, as evidenced by Trumps win in the primaries.

And now, most of them have found a pay check insulting Trump and Trump voters, so... that's that.

If the money dries up, they'll all do a mea culpa and try to worm their way back in to their old positions as so-called "thought leaders."

23 I think what I'm really saying is that this group was happy to be in coalition with the others, as long as they were the senior partner and convinced the others to go along with things they didn't like.

That's not true. The Vichy Republicans never liked being in the same voting bloc as I am. THey hated the idea of being associated with me in any way, shape, or form. THey only put up with it because they had to.

So, when they finally got tossed on their asses (after we had propped them up to fight the conservative battle, which they refused to do, over and over and over, instead pointing at me and saying that I was the thing they needed to stomp out) they totally lost it and no longer felt any need to put up with any association with me or my type any longer.

31 We talk about a DC "establishment," but fundamentally the Republican Party belongs to Donald Trump, who is increasingly executing a hostile takeover. So where does this supposed establishment draw power from? Its incredible dinner parties? No! It's all about vast financial corruption. Their plan, such as they have one, is simple:

1) Declare all actual competing media illegal.
2) Make very clear that Trump supporters, and white men in general, will go to prison on the flimsiest pretexts while Clinton supporters and approved minorities skate.
3) Massive vote fraud unconnected from the reality of the President's popularity.

Right now, it's working. What is to be done?

There was a large, large number of conservatives that weren't duped by the neocons - they believed those ideas and sympathized with them.

Then two things happened.

1.) They grudgingly accepted Trump during the general election, and the neocon establishment did not, instead breaking for Hillary. While these people weren't enthusiastically pro-Trump, that was unforgivable, and they will never forget that the fact.

2.) To their surprise (and mine, though I wasn't a neocon) he turned out to govern as conservative. Which they never, ever did.

87 Agreed. A large portion of the GOP establishment loathes their base. The base figured it out.

88 I've been saying for the longest time that Trump has already changed the game and even if he loses in 2020, it's NOT going to be the same as it was. We're not going to revert to Jeb! and Mitt and those types again.

In a way, I think the Democrats realize this already which is why they are going all-in, balls-to-the-wall for socialism and identity politics.

Trump to Use 'Nuclear Option' to Recover $2.5 Bn More from California's Failed High-Speed Rail Project

http://tinyurl.com/y6tqqyva

The Trump administration announced this week that it was canceling nearly $1 billion in grant money for California's now-defunct high-speed rail project --- and President Donald Trump is coming for the other $2.5 billion.

...

On Tuesday, the Federal Railroad Administration of the U.S. Department of Transportation wrote to California's High-Speed Rail Authority, informing it that it had breached the terms of its contract with the federal government and that $928,620,000 would therefore no longer be available to the project.

166 Trump was unique - a productive class billionaire.

A guy clearly from working-class Queens.

Someone like Kristol, who grew up in a tony Manhattan residence as the son of a famous and reasonably rich man, views people like Trump as people who come and fix his furnace, but clearly lacking the necessary sophistication to wield political power. Exactly the same reasoning is true of Podhoretz.

If Perot had the Internet and meme magic, he would have come in second in 1992. If not taken the whole thing.

We are extremely fortunate. The Internet was not obviously more influential than the lugenpresse eight years ago, and two years from now the suppression campaign against actual conservatives will have hit its peak. I am not sure if enough Americans remain to fight the invader, but we dammed well should try.

That includes the neocon elite that is at the vanguard of the deplatforming movement. Kristol, Goldberg, Rubin, Stephens, Boot for starters.

I judge on accomplishments, not charts.

Perot was also wrong about a lot of his trade rantings. He spoke on tv for 90 min. (i watched) and he said nothing to justify his hatred of free trade. Trump summed it up in a couple tweets - China is gaming the system.

And it's not going to be possible to change it from within, see the Tea Party and the election of Donald John Trump as an example.

The only way forward is the formation of a new political party that is separate and distinct from the GOP organized around a basic set of principles...

Constitutional Republicanism.

Fiscal Responsibility.

Classic Liberalism.

Economic Nationalism.

American Sovereignty and Identity.

Yes. Any system of government is going to have its "islands of stability". It's pretty clear by now that for our particular form, that's a two-party system.

Now, if you're talking about, say, Italy, there are 4 parties with more than 100 delegates in the Chamber of Deputies (out of 630 total), and 11 parties who have delegates at all.

That is true, but doesn't really fit the American story. Trump took the construction wealth of his father and turned it into skyscrapers and luxury establishments. He was and is a true captain of business. Kristol inherited his father's status without any of his intellectual gifts. They're a family of bourgeois beggars that lack actual noble titles. Which leads to the question, in what world does Kristol think he actually has higher status than Donald Trump?

316 LONDON -- The Church of England has acknowledged the reality of shrinking congregations and overworked priests and lifted a 400-year-old rule requiring that all churches hold services every Sunday.

Canon law dating from 1603 required priests to hold morning and evening prayers and a communion service each Sunday in every church they oversaw.

Fun fact - while Jackson was in the Senate, some national magazine did an investigation to see where the most powerful people in Washington sent their kids to school.

Scoop was the only one who sent his kids to DC public schools. I bet he sent his kids to the best public school in DC, but still, he was the only Democrat who wasn't a complete hypocrite about the virtues of big-city public education.

I remember just sitting there, stunned. I was eating dinner, and stopped.

Scoop Jackson would have been a fantastic Moron.

325 What amazes me is the GOPe loathes their own base because the base has the temerity to insist that the GOPe actually enact things the GOPe say they stand for.

It's not like the base is out of step with the expressed GOP party platform. Quite the contrary, it's the GOPe that has long performed failure theater on carrying through the GOP platform.

What does the GOPe stand for? Well, that's easy. You just go down the list of the US Chamber of Commerce on business issues (USCC pays for that), they support NRA issues (NRA pays for that), and they support foreign war adventures for strategic issues AND because the defense industry pays for that.

They DON'T support border security, defunding planned parenthood, consumer internet rights, curtailing abusive trade practices by internet giants, etc., because there's no money in it. In the end, me things the GOPe is 75%ish motivated by raising campaign contributions to the House and Senate master campaign funds to support incumbent reelection through the end of time.

346 There is a world of difference between trade with mexico, and china.

Perot never sused that, but then again back then clinton was anti-china so they were under the radar.

Trade with mexico mostly means offshoring high labor production. This was necessary for a lot of reasons but mostly because the cost of living in the US meant the US could never be competitive on certain things, and the cost of unionized labor in the US had made the US unproductive on some things, like auto manufacturing.

Trade with mexico helped the us to stay competitive since now the US had a low cost alternative for production. An alternative to outsourcing to SE asia where you quickly lose control of theindustry and are only creating competitors.

So I was, and still am, in favor of trade with Mexico. I am also in favor of trade with countries like Japan and Korea where IP is protected and they are allies.

Trade with China is only building our own gibbet.

They neocons love being the minority party. Conservative, Inc. thrives on it. This is because they're the same as the Democrats - as of about 1990.

I think the real problem is that the entire notion of political conservatism got hijacked. When the Democrats took their hard left turn starting gravitating toward the communist side of things, they alienated a lot of their non-commie Dem base. These people were fond of Big Government (tm), social progams, etc. - but they weren't communists and they refused to cast the USSR as anything but the enemy. They jumped ship and reluctantly joined the Republicans.

Within their new party, they found lots of people who were perfectly comfortable with growing the state (even if they didn't like it professed not to like it). The Republican party took a hard left turn and it became the non-pinko wing of the Democrat party.

The problem with the Italian setup (and a lot of Euros are like this) are that you end up with a completely disorganized and chaotic government with NO ONE in the country capable of putting together actual majority support for anything. So the country just floats along, hoping someone else will take care of things.

It's like England's Parliamentary system fight now - you have May's Tories saying "watch us totally screw up Brexit and turn it into a disaster to teach you idiots a lesson!" while meanwhile, Labor is saying "hey, that's nothin, watch us bring back the gas chambers for the jews!" I think that's a part of it. But beyond that, Democrats come across as friendly and caring. It's all a ruse of course, but the Dems are the party cares and they carry that message well. They care about the oppressed minorities (even if the minorities change a lot and they actually just want to enslave them). Women like caring. They like associating with people who care, and will care on their behalf.

Trump has done well here, I think, but it isn't enough. He drops the hammer over and over and over about how the Republicans - not the Democrats - want you to be rich and free instead of poor and bound. But the messaging is easily overpowered by the state complex.

My main focus, which ideologically is the proper one, is beating back the far left, not getting a hard on for some politician. I really don't care what you do when it is opposition to the Left.

That's what conservatism IS, trying to keep the country to what it was founded as, the shining city on the hill, the last best hope of the world. To even approach a shadow of a thought of that idea, that great experiment in freedom, we have to beat back the march of the communist/socialist LEFT.

438 LONDON -- The Church of England has acknowledged the reality of shrinking congregations and overworked priests and lifted a 400-year-old rule requiring that all churches hold services every Sunday.

Canon law dating from 1603 required priests to hold morning and evening prayers and a communion service each Sunday in every church they oversaw.

I was an early Trump supporter, though I thought it was a kamikaze kind of support. I didn't entirely trust the guy and I though he had the makings of a dictator, but I supported and voted for him anyway.

My motivation for this was that I liked his approach of containing the illegal invasion from the south and his approach to walking back the free trade fundamentalism that has hollowed out our industrial base. In other words, I liked some of his policy options.

This is not why I supported him, though. I supported him because I wanted to punish the perfidious Republican Party. I assumed Trump would lose until quite close to election day (about before the Access Hollywood tape dropped is when I thought he turned the corner). I wanted to destroy the Republican Party so it could be rebuilt into something that didn't betray me within six weeks of every new congress.

Ok. What's your alternative? Remember, it has to be in the realm of possibility and pretending Pelosi and Schumer would have folded when they had zero reason to do so is not an alternative.

When you play poker and you bluff and someone calls it you don't get to change the rules and say your bluff wins anyway.

467 He was one before he wasn't one. I am glad he flipped. But all those "imagines" I posted were candidates who the base liked and, well, ace didn't. "

This isn't really a fair criticism, because in 2016 it was very fair to question what Trump would end up actually being. His past record (such as it was) wasn't reassuring. But the big difference early on, even then, between Ace (and many of us) and the Never Trumpers was that the NT's hated Trump so much that they decided to support Hillary instead, and do things like set up that idiot puppet Egg McMuffin to try to siphon votes away from him. (that clown has pretty much vanished, hasn't he?)

NOW it's obvious that Trump has done what he said he would do, or at least he's tried - and yet the NT's hate him even more for that, because he's proving them wrong every day.

470 But beyond that, Democrats come across as friendly and caring.
-------

Agree with this, before Obama. But now, there's absolutely nothing about Democrats that comes across as friendly and caring. Democrats come across as aggressive, angry and insane.

THIS is actually really interesting to me, from electoral stand point. Will the New Progressives' straight out civil war waged against GOP turn off enough of the people we used to call "moderate liberals"? Don't know. Hope so, but I don't know.

I suspect many many Democrats are horrified at what the Democrat party has become via the Progressive movement. BUT, the Progressive movement's hyper aggression is designed to make the GOP toxic -- like Hitler Nazi toxic - per their express use of the terms all the time. The game the Progressives are playing is simple, really. In a binary party voting system, they need to make the other side so radioactive toxic that their own moderates won't jump ship.

It would absolutely work, but for the 70% tax rate, reparations, live baby killing, forced vegan conversion, outlawing carbon-based energy, etc. If there actually exists moderate Democrats anymore, multiple of these Progressive platform issues will be a bridge too far because so many of the issues hit the pocket book.

You may hate Trump and the GOP, but you probably hate destroying the economy, your livelihood and your nest egg even more.

Or, how about when Romney became the GOP nominee by default back in 2012? If I recall correctly, every single GOP candidate in that field, including Herman Cain, got a chance from the base but that ultimately resulted in allowing Romney to cross the finish line because the base spread their support thinly among everyone else. Should have been a massive red flag during the Primary, and then Romney getting slaughtered in the general left no room for doubt. Same with McCain before, and the base reception of Sarah Palin over the top of that ticket.

Warning signs have been there forever. In fact, the first warning sign was probably the base's response to George Bush's 2nd term "comprehensive amnesty" boondoggle. Remember that? The base melted down the Congressional phone lines. That was the moment the break first became obviously apparent.

I'm really not. I'm putting you in the same position Trump was in.

He's not omnipotent. He still has to deal with the reality of a divided government and can't force them to do what he wants at every turn. He had no leverage to make them change their position. They had a better hand in that negotiation.

Trump is a pretty good negotiator. That's why he's a billionaire and also why he is taking on China and North Korea and the EU and NAFTA and NATO and having more success than all his recent predecessors combined.

But sometimes you just don't have the cards and you have to play a longer game. And he is. He wants the wall not to win a shutdown negotiation with Chuck and Nancy.

This is when your troops are tired of being shot to shit because you don't know what you're doing and refuse to listen to anyone else but you aren't in the front line so it doesn't matter to you.

Eventually someone sees one too many buddy get killed because of your stupidity and plants a grenade in your tent or fires a few shots at you when you happen to visit the front line.

Happens all the time and usually the higher ups let it go because it's tough to prove if the fragger is smart and usually they have to acknowledge that the fragger is correct and did the military a favor. Plus they don't want to advertise how easy it is to take down commanders.

If they understood that they'd understand what happened to them.

641 Ugh. I've heard in passing a couple TV nitwits correct themselves in a panic, while saying something or other about Kamala Harris.

Which is why I steadfastly insist on pronouncing it the first way now.

642 Warning signs have been there forever. In fact, the first warning sign was probably the base's response to George Bush's 2nd term "comprehensive amnesty" boondoggle. Remember that? The base melted down the Congressional phone lines. That was the moment the break first became obviously apparent.

THIS. It was the Comprehensive Scamnesty, NOT the Iraq War, that caused Dubya's approval ratings to tank, although the latter did not help either.

650 One big difference between Dems and GOP are things like the GOP base's loud and proud opposition to so many things done by the GOPe.

When was the last time you saw the Dem base take on the Progressive leadership on literally ANYTHING?

I mean, if reparations, 70% tax rate, outlawing of carbon, killing babies and converting our government system to socialism doesn't earn the leadership some push back, what's going to? This is why I'm interested in seeing if the Moderate Dems still exist. It could very well be that the Mod Dems are just terrified about speaking out, given how the Progressives wage scorched earth destruction against the GOP. Or, the entire Democrat party could be lost to the Progressive movement. We KNOW that's mostly true, but we don't know if there are enough Mods to move the electoral needle. But now that the Progressives 2020 candidates are actually putting their policy goals on paper, we'll see. 2018 Mid Terms was clearly Never Trump, and completely policy free. Not so with 2020 Presidential.

651 634 Uh, that didn't work for Mr. Gingrich very well back in the day. I dare say it was the Pickett's Charge of the Gingrich rebellion. Rather than firmly consolidating the hold on Washington, the GOP chose a rather politically suicidal charge into Demunist artillery. Let's not do that again.

Put the blame for the shutdown firmly on Smarmy Schumer and Pinko Peelousy. How telegenic are THOSE two?
Posted by: Curmudgeon at February 22, 2019 05:25 PM (ujg0T)

Suicidal, how? The GOP won the house for the first time in 40 years, then held it until 2006 while implementing spending and welfare reforms and taking back the White House against the VP of a popular administration.

If Bush, et al were that "suicidal" we'd been great fucking shape right now.

658 One need not even argue about who has power and who doesn't: "power dynamics" play out naturally and inevitably, whether or not they are discussed or acknowledged.

"NeverTrumpers" is just a euphemism for old-timer liberals who have been in Conservative Drag for 60 years, while they chuckle at the rubes fools marching in the parade behind them -- as the old-tkmers give beejers to their fellow Deep State Cocktail Party Liberals.

Those human intestines are now "out" of power, for the first time in their lives. And they're so unused to this stae of affairs that they refuse to accept that it is real and has already happened.

Oh, but it is real, my friends. Despite the delusions of the old Drag Queens, the juggernaut of political reality has rolled on and left them behind, flattened in the mud.

Yes, there have been signs and there have been SIGNS. The collapse of the third Bush should have even shocked them into reality. It didn't. Or maybe it did but they couldn't afford to abandon what is most central to their being.

So yes, again, the comprehensive amnesty in any of its manifestations post-Reagan were the first signs of anti-MAGA. It's been the wedge for decades in Conservatism and it's been coincidentally clear that the CoC and Transnational Business runs the GOPe as a quasi-fascist organization. Synchronous and cooperative integration of big government, big business, and the legislation to match.

667 I think that if the Establishment had taken your advice in 2016 and agreed to power-sharing, they would not have perforce become the "junior partners". They still would have been the Honored Elders of the party, treated with respect, and regarded as Veterans of Past Wars. Conservatism naturally wants to keep its ties to the past, so yielding with grace would have preserved their position in the party as respected icons.

But they were too haughty to admit any lower-class interlopers into their magic circle, and were determined to hang on to every single scrap of power and privilege. Which resulted in them losing it all.

668 It's not the Country, or even the party Nichols is talking about "saving", but the ruling status of the think tank set. We of the subaltern see that clearly.

As you know, the Republican "leadership" in Colorado and about half the Colorado Republican Federal elected officials supported Hillary. Down here in southern Colorado, we had a visit by a party big-wig to our January county TEA Party meeting. His argument was that politics moves in cycles and it was pointless to oppose the Democrats for another 20 years. It did not go over well. I am surprised he got out alive as it is our custom to open carry at meetings.

What was interesting is that our county Republican Women chair, who normally is pure party line tore into him as hard as the rest of us.

Our state Republican Party has achieved NT heaven. Gay, Socialist Governor from Boulder, both Houses of the Legislature in Socialist hands, and the Republicans reduced to a kept pretend opposition.

Deplorable Party anyone?

Reeve and I have been playing together for a while, but Carney decided

Zane: We did some recordings, released an EP, some
demos you can call. We toured these songs an excellent deal so we were treated
to a long time, and produced it ourselves. Loads of interesting things happening that are
rare not just for occasion artists, however additionally on a
critical label like Interscope with letting us produce
it's. A lot of that has to enjoy with quantity of money of touring we have done, therefore we really
know these songs and are deeply involved with the recording process because of that.
