Well, the Younger Dryas may have been caused by either A) a meteorite strike, or B) melting of the Lawrence Ice sheet, with all the fresh water running into the Atlantic disrupting the Gulf Stream.

I saw in the ONT, towards the end someone brought up the Pigford settlement. I remember looking that up at the time, to see what it actually was. The settlement said (iirc) that if you were black, and you applied for a loan to the USDA and were denied for any reason, then you would be awarded a blanket $50,000 payout. You could also get that same payout if you alleged that you had made a loan application, that it had been denied, and that all of the documentation was lost because Evil Racists at the USDA threw it in the trash.

Somewhere around $2.3 Billion in cash payments under this program have been made over the last 6 or 7 years.

His Farcebook page is still up and he's talking about his daughter's birthday and places his family likes to go eat. What a piece of shit to do that to his wife and daughter. 73 I'm actually not a favor of nuke plants, the way they turned out, because they are way too expensive and take way too long. I want the electrical grid to be based on Nat Gas, which is what is happening since it is cheap, clean, and we have a 300 year supply in the ground right here in the USA.

Nat gas plants cost 1/10 of what a Nuke plant costs to build, for the same output, and take 1/10 of the time. Nuclear only made sense when we thought nat gas was going to be rare, and get expensive - but thanks to the fraccing revolution, not only is Nat Gas common, we've easily got a 300 year supply. That easily gets us up to the time when everyone will have a Mr. Fusion pack sitting on the back of their flying car.

Nat gas plants are already becoming the dominant power generation mode in the USA, whether anybody likes it or not, because nothing else can seriously compete on cost or ease of use anymore.

Engineers have been talking about a Thorium fueled reactor for some time; it's supposed to be able to provide neighborhood level electrical demand with much lower risk and cost. But this technology never seems to get off the ground, which tells me (although I haven't looked into it deeply) that those trying to develop it keep running into some pretty severe problems with the concept.

Who knows, maybe in 50 years it'll be made to work. And if anyone ever succeeds in developing room temperature superconductors (talked about for decades now) then the whole energy situation will be radically transformed overnight. But it's not going to happen tomorrow.

I finished up telling my tales, and was about to leave and someone said we are concerned about some racist postings you made. I said what?!?!

And then they started rolling some video tape of me behind the keyboard - they had obviously jacked my webcam

It was very realistic, and like something out of a movie.

Somewhere in another timeline I went on some secret missions to Egypt to recover some Chinook helicopters, and along the way, things went bad.

Laura Bush was there to make me feel more comfortable and open up.

The funny thing is that because nat gas is so much easier to work with, and now in such great supply because of the fraccing revolution, the switchover would have happened even without any regulation. And people who think "aha, we're hurting the evil oil and gas industry!" don't realize the "evil oil and gas biz' produces both.

It's like when I see anyone wonky promoting a Hydrogen fueled economy, fuel cells for cars, etc. Well that's all well and good, but they never seem to realize that the only economical and practical source of Hydrogen is nat gas (methane). And if you're going to build an energy economy based on burning Hydrogen, it's actually a lot more efficient to save a step in the process and just burn the Nat Gas directly instead. (which is why a Hydrogen Economy will never happen, except in a few isolated applications that need to use fuel cells)

My son once had a party at age 16 and it was crashed by a bunch of random teenagers and we had to clear the yard/house out from the arrivals. One of my neighbors said to the other, "Do you think he knows yet?"

I'm guessing that they can tell, because the alternative would be dangerous.

I also think that's what they mean by "acceptance" partly. The ability to approach anyone without the reaction being one of disgust or violence. I'm a woman and if a woman laid her hands on me in a sexual way, I'd react "poorly."

Given the right circumstances, almost anyone can be brainwashed. They have to revive the driver at the scene using overdose drugs and they find syringes in the car. He has older convictions of driving while fucked up. This dude is going down hard. Engineers have been talking about a Thorium fueled reactor for some time; it's supposed to be able to provide neighborhood level electrical demand with much lower risk and cost. But this technology never seems to get off the ground, which tells me (although I haven't looked into it deeply) that those trying to develop it keep running into some pretty severe problems with the concept.

Who knows, maybe in 50 years it'll be made to work. And if anyone ever succeeds in developing room temperature superconductors (talked about for decades now) then the whole energy situation will be radically transformed overnight. But it's not going to happen tomorrow.

Re: the alternate reactor technology, I remember when a utility engineer once asked me to provide the latest cutting edge technology with a proven track record in the field.

One of the hurdles of making any changes in reactor technology is the regulatory process now requires decades of experience with the proposed technology way before any approval.

Moving to a new fuel, even a safer one such as thorium, is beyond the capability of the regulatory process as it has evolved.

This happened near me. The guy must have shot up while driving. He'd been on FB recently bragging about "being clean", but I guess he couldn't stay away.

The irony is if this asshole had waited until he got home to shoot up, he most likely dies from an OD. But by causing a horrific accident, emergency personnel was on the scene to apply Narcam and save his putrid life--while a father, his 17 year old son, and an Indian immigrant gas station worker got obliterated.

I also think the drive to create a 'disease model' as yu put it, (a process I call "defining disease downward") comes from multiple sources.

e.g. Medical societies such as Amer. Heart Assoc. or Amer. Diabetes Assoc, have a vested interest in maintaining their ascendancy, to justify their existence (not to mention the fund-raising) by magnifying the impact of their pet condition. So half the population is told they have "pre"-hypertension or "pre"-diabetes. Voila, a whole new instant constituency and potential revenue stream. You're going to need confirmatory testing and ongoing monitoring (at intervals defined by what Medicare/Medicaid will reimburse) don't you know?.

I recommend people watch An Open Secret, the documentary about the Hollywood pederasts. It shows just how endemic the problem is there.

But, it also shows how the more highly effective molesters work. The ones who target "good kids from good families."

They don't just groom the kids, but the parents. They put a lot of effort into lulling the parents into a sense of false security, until they are in a position of trust sufficient to be left alone with the kid. After that happens a lot without incident, then they move in for the kill.

And they know it won't always work, so they do it with basically every family they work with, until they get one where everything lines up in their favor.

I'm going to be vague here, for reasons of confidentiality. I know a family, in good standing in their community. Several children, ranging in ages from toddlers to teenagers.

Many parents would have. And it probably... probably, would have be safe for her. But consider what we DON'T know, and consider what might have been, and how one's own child's life might have taken a significant turn. On that one decision.

Not because you suspected anything, because of COURSE this is a GOOD family, and who could ever think such a thing.

The point being, not to distrust everybody, but instead, not to think that being from a "good family" inoculates your children from the things that are out there in this world.

Yeah, I do the "there's a code for that" shtick as a punch line here but the underlying point and the truth of the matter is that there is a code for virtually everything under the sun. We have defined disease downward to the point that the human condition can be boiled down to a series of diagnosis codes, and as Bob says, they can be billed for if the coding is done properly.
