Oh look, Nicholas "Spit on the Cross" Frankovich is still on the masthead at National Review.
They haven't let him write anything for a month. Even though he is nominally an "editor," we all know he couldn't "edit" his way out of a wet paper bag with a knife. Since he's not doing anything at NR anymore, why not write to letters AT nationalreview DOT com and suggest to them that they finally fire his sorry ass? At the DIA there's a Seurat where the painting extends beyond the canvas onto the frame, which really sells the "things are over there, somewhere" vibe.

And speaking of Rothko, San Fran Museum is planning to sell a Rothko so they can increase the diversity of their collection. The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art announced this week that they will be selling an untitled work from abstract expressionist Mark Rothko. Proceeds from the painting, which is worth anywhere from $35 to $50 million, will be used to buy paintings from non-white artists. Change your name to Hernandez and get to paintin'. Moneymaker: Here at the Russian Collusion Field Research Society we can absolutely deduce that this wheat field is the exact type of terrain where Russians would approach AG sessions and collude with him.
Bobo: There is a large food source and plenty of hard wood trees for them to knock on with sticks to communicate over long distances. Renee: We understand there is no evidence of this occurring, but that's the sort of painstaking cover up that a bigfoot.....uh.....Russian colluder would go to. Some of Monet's paintings are more effective than others, at least to me. The more detailed close-ups at Givenchy are examples of his skll. This one doesn't do much for my preferences. It is too amorphous. Instead of Impressionism it might better be called Suggestive.
This painting makes me wonder what Monet might have done with watercolor or pastel for the scene. Posted by: JTB at February 21, 2019 09:45 AM (bmdz3) 78

Posted by: SturmToddler at February 21, 2019 09:29 AM (8D42x) I think the best part is the thin, horizontal band of light gold/yellow that separates the larger areas of green and blue. Yellow, green and blue are adjacent colors and the transition is seamless and calming. The gold is then reflected slightly in the sky. He then adds dots of warm orange - another adjacent color at the very bottom. Monet's style doesn't appeal to everyone, but he's a master at color. It's an old war correspondent tradition. I remember seeing a good piece of work done on Matthew Brady's Gettysburg photos, considered to the be the first really good battlefield photo sets ever made, and which are still famous today. The man who did the study realized that Brady had actually gotten to the battlefield during cleanup operations a few days later, and using closeups and enhancement, he was able to show that most of Brady's photos used the same 7 or 8 bodies that he apparently had in a wagon, and that he was carting them around the battlefield posing them in all the right places. They were great photos, though. Posted by: Tom Servo at February 21, 2019 10:03 AM (Kpl3J) Posted by: Anon a mouse at February 21, 2019 10:03 AM (6qErC) 136

FBI's top lawyer believed Hillary Clinton should face charges, but was talked out of it For most of the past three years, the FBI has tried to portray its top leadership as united behind ex-Director James Comey's decision not to pursue criminal charges against Hillary Clinton for transmitting classified information over her insecure, private email server. Although in the end that may have been the case, we now are learning that Comey's top lawyer, then-FBI General Counsel James Baker, initially believed Clinton deserved to face criminal charges, but was talked out of it "pretty late in the process." The revelation is contained in testimony Baker gave to House investigators last year. I know nothing about Capa or faked scenes for propaganda sake ... but Orwell seemed to understand how powerful such propaganda was, as did the Soviets that pushed their successful march through our institutions via subterfuge and twisting of language and history.
"McCarthyism" became a bad word, describing any that opposed the commie infiltration. We live in a PsyOp world, which now happens right at the street level, with Jussie writing a fake news script and performing for CCTV. But Jussie is still a hero, it is that damn Pepe the cartoon frog that is "hate speech". Military subterfuge is essential, but our government, all governments, operate in covert ways (largely) against the masses, using news agencies as a prime means of disseminating useful narratives. Blurry. Ugh.
At the dentist this morning and forced to watch CBS this morning in waiting room. And for 10 minutes they ran a story about how people were getting smaller refunds in taxes this year. You should have seen them spin this in every way as a disaster. How TERRIBLE this was for everybody. How awful the tax cuts were, because of these smaller refunds. And they had interviews with people moaning about the small refund they got. The sturm and drang! The drama! I almost threw up. Are people THIS F-ing stupid? I want to grab these idiots and shake them. You got a smaller refund because they took LESS TAXES from your check. You got to use MORE of YOUR MONEY over the year. If you get no refund, or a small refund, or even paid some taxes--CONGRATULATIONS! You WIN! You didn't give Uncle Sam an interest free loan ON YOU for a year! I think it's a pretty interesting question as to whether or not Smollett would have ever been arrested for hoaxing IF there was video of the "attack."
You sort of have to expect that CPD (and all other relevant US institutions) would never have had the balls to go against the firestorm a video would have released. A good +40% of the population still insists Covington kids were at least disrespectful to that nutjob Indian "elder" and there's full video proving Covington kids did absolutely zero wrong. You think anyone on the Left would ever have been willing to give up believing MAGA-types lynched Smollett if they had actually seen video of the event? The Heavy piece might provide a good-enough telling of the facts so far but I didn't care for some of the subtext.
WTF does it matter that he wrote a letter seven weeks after Charlottesville? Maybe 7 hours later might indicate something but seven weeks. Would eight weeks have been copacetic then? Seven weeks and two days?? A shot at the NRA because he wanted to shoot at their HQ range as if that's especially sinister? (Even though he ended up buying a rifle there.) And selective releases from the prosecution about his writing doesn't impress me. It makes me wonder if anything might have been omitted like Hasson citing the GOP softball terror attack or the attack on Rand Paul as motivation for his own revenge fantasy that the leftist media and Deep State don't like reminding people about? "The Check" - reminds me of the time I was standing in line in the grocery store behind some thuggy looking millennial, and some braindead millennial girl was working the register and making goo-goo eyes at him. So he buys a whole bunch of stuff and pulls out a check to pay for it, fills it out, signs it, hands it to her.
So she looks at it and says "no, no, you have to sign it with the same name that's printed on the top of the check!" So he says ok, scratches out his name that he had signed, signs with the other name, hands it to her and she says "ok, thanks!!!" and he walks out of the store with his big cart full of crap. Another famous "paid by check" tale, from "Kelly's Heroes" - It was during shooting in Yugoslavia 1969, that Donald Sutherland received word, via co-star Clint Eastwood, that his then-wife Shirley Douglas was arrested for trying to buy hand-grenades for the Black Panthers with a personal cheque from an undercover FBI agent. Sutherland recounts this story often, mentioning that when Eastwood got to the part about the personal cheque, he laughed so hard, he fell to his knees, and Sutherland had to help him up. My $.02, re. The Capa story...
Why was anyone surprised? Photography is an artform, first and foremost. Historian artists have and always will manipulate the scene/technique/whatever for the best possible composition to best tell their story. They may say they're journalists, but they're artists first. No one should get their history from art, paintings or photographs. Does the truth take away the fact that Capa's pictures of D-Day are still gripping? Not to me. He was actually there. He went into dangerous situations to capture the drama of an event, and it eventually cost him. He was killed in Vietnam in a combat zone. Posted by: Kris at February 21, 2019 10:48 AM (OyyDO) 415
