Moron Robbie, I saw your comment in the EMT about your recipe. It's remarkably similar to one I just found for "Mississippi Roast," except instead of pickles, it's pepperocini peppers that go on top. And then my heart with pleasure fills
And dances with the daffodils. "

Months later, a second background check of Gary Martin found his 1995 aggravated assault conviction in Mississippi involving the stabbing of an ex-girlfriend. But it prompted only a letter stating his gun permit had been revoked and ordering him to turn over his firearm to police - raising questions about the state's enforcement to ensure those who lose their permits also turn over their weapons.

81 I loved Janis' music. She had a rough, grittiness to her singing voice and her persona, but it just worked for her. I can't watch her Woodstock performances (and Big Sur, I think) without feeling the passion and feeling she had. And she was quirky. I liked that about her. Plus, I read a biography about her years ago where she kinda slammed the feminazis of the day saying something to the effect that she never felt the need to be a part of their movement...because they always seemed so angry all the time.

86 Whether lionized or demonized, redheads seem to hold an outsize place in the Jewish imagination.

Sometimes called Ginger Jews, Jewish redheads have inspired a great number of origin stories, including speculation that they descended from the ancient Turkic group the Khazars. Thats likely a myth, but royte yidn (thats Yiddish for red Jews) have appeared in Yiddish folklore as noble warriors as well as demons like Lilith.

It may not be true that Jews are more likely to have red hair than any other group, but some people think otherwise. One Orthodox publication warned against anti-redhead prejudice. Some countries go so far as to celebrate their redheaded population, and at least two Israeli photographers, Sharon Bareket and Nurit Benchetrit, have used redheads as artistic inspiration.

Maybe worldwide Jews should follow their example. After all, tradition has it that the messiah will descend from King David, himself often depicted as having red hair. And despite the appeal of South Park holidays, you wouldnt want to kick a potential messiah, would you?

100 I never get tired of John Everett Millais and his genre. He makes such wonderful use of color and detail then adds those dramatic (but not over the top) poses. They are a delight to look at. A bonus is I can always see motion in his still images and they make me think of story lines beyond the ones that inspired the painting. Interactive 1800s visual fare?

CBD, Thanks. This is a great image to start the new week.

Well, one had an unusual singing style and was well known for "enthusiastic" performances, and somewhat odd (by our eyes) costume, so much so that passed away after a grueling schedule ...

103 "Painted in 1851, ‘The Bridesmaid’ illustrates one of many Victorian marriage traditions. Victorians believed a bridesmaid would see a vision of her true love if she passed a piece of wedding cake through a ring nine times, a ritual depicted in Millais' painting. This is not the only symbolism found in the painting. An orange blossom on the woman’s chest represents chastity."

I don't think mom really was aware of exactly the sort of pottery bits that would be on display, nor probably was she thinking that Pompeiians would be such a bawdy lot.

135 There was an Vans store MAGA hat incident yesterday that seems slightly fishy.

Mom and her 14-year-old son are in the store, and a worker, you can see his empoyee ID on his neck lanyard, tells the boy to take off his MAGA hat, and allegedly says "fuck you" to the kid.

Kid and mom have cell phones in hand, at the ready. Mom gets it on video with her phone, and then marches the employee to the store manage at the check out, to complain.

Vans canned the employee. In the video, the store supervisor was smirking at the charge by the mom.

Did mom and boy troll all the stores in the mall until they got the reaction they were seeking? I know tween girls always have phones in hand, but mom and MAGA-hat son?

163 My lovely morning -

Went out to the car to leave for work at 7:30. Opened the passenger door, laid the phone on the seat, started the car, grabbed the snowbrush, shut the door. Once I finished cleaning the car off, went to open the door. All four doors were LOCKED.

So. Phone locked in car. Can't get back in the my building as the fob is locked in the car on my key ring. The office at the condo is closed anyway as its a holiday. No one is coming out to go to work because it's a holiday. I wait around, getting colder and colder as its pouring snow. I even attempted to break the window of the car. Finally someone comes out.

As it turns out, he's late for work, but lets me use his phone to call roadside assistance. I finally get that arranged, but again, they can't get to my car because the parking lot is gated and the fob to open the gates is....locked in my car. They also can't call me if they need to because my phone is locked in the car. Before my benefactor left, I asked him to let me back in the building.

I'm sitting there waiting and waiting, watching for someone to come. I couldn't call work to let them know I was going to be late. Then I thought I should go back outside to watch for the guy to come, but it's really cold and I will be locked out again.

I went out again anyway, just because I was getting desperate. I was able to get into the lobby area where the building call box is. I'm waiting and watching. Soon, I see movement out the corner of my eye and could have sworn I saw someone go into the office. I dialed the office number and THANK GOD the maintenance man had shown up. He let me in, gave me the spare key to my condo and I was able to get my spare set of car keys.

Needless to say, I need to put a better a system in place.

And the $145 million for it didn't come from some long-ago-passed funding bill passed under former President Barack Obama. It was included in U.S. Customs and Border Protection's budget for fiscal year 2018. Unlike other parts of new barrier construction and reparation, Trump can actually take credit for this one!

183 Joplin and Dylan ... their raw voices showed they were in touch with the raw nature of man, and had found the inner soul ... or some such.

"Raw" does seem to carry an earthier message better than the more pure voices, imo. Same for some of the blues ... I'd rather listen to R.L. Burnside than some silk voiced youngster that has no idea about "hard times". Burnside really did lose his father, two brothers, and two uncles to murder in Chicago. Wiki just informed me he himself was convicted of murder, maybe at a craps game, but a boss needed him and got him released after six months. sheesh ... the real Chicago ... back near Alinsky/Capone days.

this is his Hard Time Killing Floor song. "too rough a place, people going up and down the street killing ... a sad thing"

Reminds me of a story about my mom. When she was starting to get a little forgetful but still able to get around she drove to the store one day. When she came out of the store she discovered she had locked her keys in the car. She went back inside the store and called my dad at home to tell him her predicament. He calmly said, "Take your right hand and reach up to hour neck, feel the necklace chain? Follow that chain down to the end and you will find the spare car key that we put there for just this occasion."

My lovely morning -

Went out to the car to leave for work at 7:30. Opened the passenger
door, laid the phone on the seat, started the car, grabbed the
snowbrush, shut the door. Once I finished cleaning the car off, went to
open the door. All four doors were LOCKED.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WTHR) - A Middletown man who claimed to be the sailor in the famous 1945 Times Square picture has died.

The Providence Journal reported that George Mendonsa died Sunday after a fall at an assisted living facility. He would have turned 96 on Tuesday.

In this Aug. 14, 1945 file photo provided by the U.S. Navy, a sailor and a nurse kiss passionately in Manhattan's Times Square, as New York City celebrates the end of World War II. (AP Photo/U.S. Navy/Victor Jorgensen, File)
The picture was taken Aug. 14, 1945, after the announcement that Japan had surrendered to the United States, ending World War II. People spilled into the New York City streets from restaurants, bars and movie theaters to celebrate.

The woman in the photo, Greta Zimmer Friedman, died in 2016 at age 92.

LIFE Magazine published the picture, but never confirmed Mendonsa's identity, nor that of Glenn McDuffie, who died in 2014 at age 86 claiming that HE was the sailor in the picture.

Alfred Eisenstaedt took the photo, but never revealed his subjects before his death in 1995.

A Houston Police artist analyzed the picture and concluded McDuffie was the sailor.

Later, facial recognition technology supported Mendonsa's claim.

When there's a general rule, applying to everyone, then I have no issue with it - that's just old school politeness, and it actually always bugs me to see men wearing cowboy hats, ball caps, whatever inside a restaurant or some other venue. But, knowledge of what constitutes civilized behavior seems to have passed out of our culture; we're all barbarians now.

The national newspaper Asahi Shimbun, citing multiple Japanese government sources, reported Sunday that the U.S. government "informally" asked Japan to nominate Trump after he met with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore last year.

A buddy of mine used to do those storage unit auctions and jumped all over one that came from a guy that sold baseball cards. Thousands of them, complete with all the card holders, sealed boxes of cards straight from the factory etc. Paid about $1500 for the whole lot.

He spent the next year and a half trying to sell off the collection on ebay and got bupkis. Not a dime.

He finally gave up and put the whole collection on Craigslist and sold it to another dupe for... $1500.

247 According to an account of the Banqiao Dam by a Chinese journalist writing under the pseudonym Yi Si, on Aug. 8, as workers stared curiously at the retreating water level of the reservoir, a voice in the dark called out: "The River Dragon has come!" And suddenly the dam ruptured, unleashing 600 billion liters of water and destroying an entire village. By Aug. 17, 1975 reports Si, 1.1 million people remained trapped by flooding with 50 to 60 percent of food air-dropped into the area floating in the murky waters. It would take weeks for the waters to drain, revealing bloated corpses dotting the landscape in the late summer sun.

The government kept news of the disaster from being broadcast nationally, and there hadn't been any international observers present. But when China's Ministry of Water Resources and Electric Power released a study in July 1989, it reported that the dam breach caused more than 85,000 people to die instantly. Two years earlier, "On Macro-Decision Making in the Three Gorges Project," a study conducted by eight Chinese water science experts who probably had access to censored government reports, estimated the number of total dead -- from flooding and the resulting epidemics and famine -- at 230,000.

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) - If you are looking for a cruise that lets you get to dive into one of the most popular '80s sitcoms, you're in luck.

Flip Phone Events is organizing a Golden Girls cruise that will depart from Miami before making stops at Key West and Cozumel next February.

The sitcom, which was set in Miami, ended in 1992, but it still has a dedicated fan base.

Activities include Golden Girls trivia, a Shady Pines craft corner, Key West Golden Girls bar crawl, Golden Girls costume contest and fancy dinner and a "One Night in St. Olaf" dance party.

The cruise will kick off in Feb. 24, 2020 and tickets start at $1,000.

I sincerely hope that the CPD proves me wrong and charges Smollett. It sounds like that may happen. I'm glad they're not like the spineless catamites that run our department in Denver.

Secondly Smollett's attorney has released a statement, including:

"As a victim of a hate crime who has cooperated with the police investigation, Jussie Smollett is angered and devastated by recent reports that the perpetrators are individuals he is familiar with."

Jussie has to be one of the biggest dickheads in a country full of them.

It's bad enough to say "Hey, you hungry foreigners trying to make it in Hollywood, I have the key to your success - just do this thing for me. Super easy, barely an inconvenience," so you can convince them to fake a hate crime.

But when you get caught for it, to throw them so thoroughly under the bus like that is just low.
