Harvard Students: Dumber Than Your Dog, But Much More Confident

Harvard University and its various colleges and professional and academic schools are considered the pinnacle of American Academia. Oh, sure, maybe their Molecular Biology department lags Stanford's, and their French Literature department is running far behind Yale's (I have no idea, nor do I care), but in the main they are representative of academic excellence in every way.

So the fact that their students...the Crème de la Crème of American high schools, are so completely illiterate and ignorant of the basic, profound, essential guarantees of our constitution is a little bit disconcerting.

Or not. Maybe the golden years of American Academia are behind us, and these retards (my apologies to real retards) are actually the best that America can offer, in which case, shoot me now!

Harvard Students Call for Firing of Law Prof for Representing Harvey Weinstein

Harvard Law School professor Ronald S. Sullivan Jr. has taken a role on the defense team of disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein. Now some students are protesting and calling for his firing.
One of those whiny little bitches is something called a " Social Studies and Women, Gender, and Sexuality concentrator," which in my estimation is pretty much the same thing as an apprentice fluffer on a porn movie that wasn't quite good enough to make it to the internet.

created a lot of the mess we are in now. Threatening to sue places that don't feel they could afford the court fight to impose PC standards, infiltrating government agencies and the judiciary to deliberately lose court cases brought by commie front groups. I'm glad the crocodile has decided it can eat them now.

108 Democracy Manifest, great!

Tokyo - of course it all depends on interests and tastes. Can't go wrong, esp. if first exposure to Japan. Great, weird country!

If you're a war buff, Yasukuni Shrine Museum (shrine where Jap PMs go, and the Chineee and Koh-reans go ape-shit, due to war criminals interred there). Imperial Palace tour (even though winter). Ginza, at night, walk the streets. If you're a hard-core culture tourist, Edo museum, and schedule it on a day there is sumo at the sumo-drome, next door.

Harijuku at night (or was it Shinjuku?), dept. stores, young people, street scene, cosplay people.

Department stores, everwhere you go! Amazing. Especially the food courts (basement level).

Kyoto. COLD. Can't go wrong, all the major shrines/temples. Word of warning: the place can be completely mobbed by hordes of Chinese tourists (relatively recent development), though COLD winter weather may help. Nijiya market downtown; Arashiyama outside town (try to eat at one of the tofu restaurants there).

Hiroshima. Nice town. Go to the high-rise bldg. with all the okinomiyaki restaurants in it, and the night-life area nearby. Nuke museum is "better than I expected" (my description). Again - if mil. history buff, day-trip out to Kure by train - battleship Yamato museum, Jap. navy museum (next door) - even Eta Jima (former naval academy).

Someone does something you find objectionable and you want them to lose their job? Okay, well your job is "student" and how about you lose that job asshole? See how you enjoy it. Perhaps you might not be so quick to see someone else fired, eh?

And hey, I think Harvey Weinstien is a repugnant monster, I look forward to him going to jail, and I'm very surprised a Harvard Law professor wants to defend him (doesn't he have...a job as a law professor already?) but whatevs. he deserves a defense.

114 I'll say this, a Harvard degree in certain professions is a straight-out meal ticket. Get a Harvard law degree, and average start pay is $150k. Average. Which gets pulled down by the true-blue activist lawyers who do non-prof. Top graduates of the class prolly get starting offers at something like $250k and up. Total. Meal. Ticket. I've worked with quite a few Harvard lawyers. Definitely smart cookies. But good grief.

When California did away with its HS exit exam (demonstrate proficiency in 10th grade English and 8th grade math) newspaper articles quoted our various Third World friends as gushing that NOW they could take up the place they'd been offered at UC. That confused me for the longest time. I'm a huge Samurai movie fan and there's always a magistrate (I just looked it up, it's called bugyo) from Edo who's visiting and the local clans have to clean up their act for a few days.

I recall that the % of entering students needing such was so low, years ago, there really wasn't much data on it - and that in the last year, before the whole thing was dropped, it was something like 50% (I don't think I'm misremembering, and I'm not making it up).

Rationale was it was unfair to keep students in school the extra time it took for remedial work, as it didn't go towards a degree.

No idea. If I had to guess, I'd guess they dropped remedial courses because so many had to take them, and had their little egos ruffled by the rubric "remedial."

Back when dinosaurs roamed the earth, many of my classmates had to take "subject A," which was remedial English.

Of course now remedial English would probably have to start with "Run, Jane, run. See Jane run." Que?

238 Pretty sure bill as passed by Senate was adopted by House (conference report), without amendment. Thus, de facto amnesty provision (224a) is in there, as signed into law.

Aside from that - truly stunning - disaster, there is less $$ for barriers than Dems agreed to in the fall, a *reduction* in detention capacity for ICE, it pluses up "managing the invasion rather than stopping it" in various programs, and probably doubles H-2B visas.

DHS public affairs seems to have a small - no, enormous - "don't know WTF they are doing/talking about" issue, going back a while. At key times their "messaging" has been less than weak and lame. BP and its various regional offices are pretty good with their comms, DHS/DC seems like a very different story.

Re barriers: assuming NE holds, don't discount what might be done in the next year. Won't be anything like what it should be, but won't be nothing either.

BUT - separate issues remain disastrous, with downward trajectory. Internal enforcement (resources, laws, court-imposed restrictions, "sanctuary" lawlessness). Lesser-known but important things like ending temporary status for large #s of certain nationalities (properly, due to changed circumstances) - blocked by courts.

Biggest of all - the "policy magnets" that are drawing record #s of family units and UACs to the border (where BARRIERS WILL NOT MATTER, due to the legal/policy situation). Catch-and-release (ongoing, despite Trump's claims, he really should stop saying what he has been saying), which is de facto permanent untracked illegal status. Fake asylum claims, to get the ball rolling. Sec. 224 of the conference report - barring some tactical or other miracle that negates it - may be the most outrageous, disastrous immigration law change ever made (esp. heinous because it stands to greatly incentivize child/human trafficking).

Kanazawa is on the west coast of Japan; the sleepy, under-developed side of Japan. Kanazawa is a museum of a city just in the fact that it wasn't bombed by the US nor renovated into a concrete jungle mess post-war.

Super cool tea-house alleys. It's like a samurai movie set for blocks. My friends and I traveled for a bit on the west coast further south to get to Izumo ( one of the oldest shrines in Japan that they tear down and rebuild every 20 years ) and it's just a golden, ancient area.

325 @260: "Chicago PD didn't come up with the Nigerians on their own."

My assumption is that CPD had unofficial access to Jussie's call logs and geolocation data to guide the ground search, then cross-referenced with other people in the area, and the reacted logs Jussie provided later on were useful 'cause of what he decided to leave out.

There's a difference between evidence for investigation, and evidence for prosecution in a courtroom, and I think Jussie got burned real quick by the former. They likely knew it was a hoax within the first 24 hours.

335 Can't resist temptation - check out the graphs (think Ctr for Immigration Studies has them, they're around) showing flow of intending (illegal, not authorized) migrants to the southern border since 2016. Yuuuuge, luxurious "Trump effect" (decline) .... which lasted until, I forget, this past summer or so? Then - back up.

Confirms the real-world deterrent value of perceptions - and the rational, well-informed nature of the adversary (intending illegals and the cartels that increasingly organize/send them).

Marini Farmer - I'm comfortable speculating there is a much less dramatic version of what you describe at play. There were striking indicators - the bad CR last March, the stunning agreement to defer the big fight until *after* the mid-terms. I've said here at various times - I cannot imagine the strategery, political or legislative, that is reflected in the actions/inactions on this huge issue.

Hanging over it all, though, is the fundamental derailment of the constitutional system - judicial usurpation/lawlessness - it affects almost every aspect of the immigration disaster. And nobody - not just Trump - inside the Beltway seems to have the mindset, or will, to even *begin* addressing this.

I mean, I'd love to go to the Middle East, but not stay in one place the entire time, which is what we'd end up doing.
